Body found in creek

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS A BODY found in a creek near the township on Monbulk at 3.40pm on Monday (23 May) has been confirmed be that of missing Monbulk woman Fiona Hawker.

Ms Hawker’s body was found in Emerald Creek off the Allendale Road, minutes from the centre of Monbulk.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner, but the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

Inspector Trevor Ashton said while the outcome was tragic, the family now had closure. “It is most unfortunate and Victoria Police would like to extend condolences to the family.� “Our investigators are down there

now and at this stage there is nothing to indicate foul play,� Insp Ashton said.

Insp Ashton said it was through the efforts off all involved in the search they were able to locate Ms Hawker’s body. “It was a fantastic effort of all the stakeholders such as SES, CFA, and the Bushwalkers Search and Rescue Association, without their efforts would be going on for long time,� he said.

Police are still seeking assistance from the community who may have any information leading to discovering what happened to Ms Hawker. “If people have any information or may be aware of what happened, please get into contact via Crimestoppers or at Monbulk police station,�

Insp Ashton said. “We still need the community’s help to understand what happened.�

Investigators thanked all those who helped with the search.

The 48-year-old Ms Hawker was last seen leaving her house in McAllister Road in Monbulk on Thursday 19 May at about 8.15am.

It has been reported Ms Hawker did not take her mobile phone or any credit cards and her bank account had not been used since her disappearance.

Incident controller Inspector Trevor Ashton said the search had geared up as of Monday morning 23 May and police had had a good response from the public with information. “We have got 20 search and rescue

bushwalkers, 24 SES and a dozen uniform members of police conducting all kinds of searches this morning,� he said. “We are going over old ground and the little intelligence coming in from public has been very helpful.

Insp Ashton said the whole of Monbulk had been searched and re-searched, including the main shopping strip and the whole residential area.

Victoria Police dog squad and SES units also searched local bushland and creeks for any clue of Ms Hawker.

Insp Ashton urged the public to contact police with any information no matter how trivial they think it might be.

What it means to help out aid Mark Menze Animal Aid CEO

By MARK MENZE, CEO Animal Aid AS ANOTHER financial year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on all that we have achieved in 12 months as an animal welfare agency.

Contrary to common perception,

we are not just the local pound in Coldstream.

Each and every day of the year we support people and animals in need that come through our doors.

Animal Aid is not a small organisation; nor are we the biggest.

In the last 12 months we have provided the highest level of care to 6,025 stray, lost, abandoned, seized or surrendered animals.

As an open door shelter we never turn away an animal or person in need.

We will do everything in our power to reunite an animal with its rightful

owner or assist an animal to be ready for adoption into a safe and loving home.

We do this regardless of financial or space constraints that may exist at the time.

We’re often asked how someone could surrender their pet.

There are many reasons. The owner may be ill or elderly and can no longer care for their pet; the animal may be at risk from harm by another person; they may be relocating interstate or overseas, be homeless or have financial pressures, or the pet may have poor so-

Letters Bush rubbished GLENFERN Valley Bushlands is a 40-hectare bush reserve in Upwey.

The volunteers from the Friends of Glenfern Valley Bushlands collect litter from our car parks at least once a week. We do this to keep our reserve attractive for our community and visitors. The weekly litter is mostly takeaway packaging, cigarette packets, bottles and cans. No doubt this litter is left by those living in a disposable and throwaway world who no longer care for the natural environment.

As a service to the community our volunteers deal with this litter when it is manageable.

On other occasions rubbish is dumped by the ute load. Such amounts are too much for volunteers to handle. Last week it was a load of household garbage and a chopped-up tree. A member spotted it Wednesday night; it was reported to the Upwey Community Link on Thursday morning and it was picked up by council by 9.30 on Friday morning.

I would like to thank the Yarra Ranges Council and the wonderful staff at the Upwey Community Link for such a commendable response.

The Upwey Community Link provides a vital contact point to the many volunteer groups working on projects in this area of the Shire.

Why Emerald?

RUMOUR has it that plans for a retirement village have been knocked back due to fire risk around Emerald.

Now we hear that Puffing Billy plans to build a complex at Emerald Lake Park! On what land we are not told, so far.

There is only one narrow lane to the park, no other way out. We do need to be told why Emerald is the preferred site when Cockatoo and Gembrook has more space and less fire risk.

New cultural tour to run

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS A NEW cultural tour run by local Wurundjeri people from Grant’s Picnic Ground in Kallista will provide learning opportunities for tourists and locals as well as jobs for local indigenous people.

Federal MP Jason Wood was in attendance at a demonstration of the new tours on Tuesday 17 May along with the Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council.

In 2015, the Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council Inc secured a grant of $150,000 of federal funding.

The grant was made possible through the Dandenong Ranges Wild-

“We have a unique story of this place and more than just tell that story, we want to make Wurundjeri presence felt and stop the confusion.”

The tours are the first real Indigenous tourism venture for the state of Victoria and will provide jobs and education in a purely indigenous setting.

The guided tours will provide jobs to five local indigenous people and the tours will run two times a day, twice a week.

Wurundjeri Tribe Land and Compensation Cultural Heritage Council CEO Cheryl Krause said she was proud to see this project happening.

“I am really delighted to be involved in this project,” she said.

Uncle Bill Nicholson said it had taken a lot of work to make this venture possible but it was nothing to what it meant to the Wurundjeri community.

“The biggest weapon we have as Aboriginals is education,” he said.

TRAGEDY stuck a Mount Evelyn family on the morning of Friday 20 May when their family home was destroyed by fire.

Emergency services attended the burning house shortly after 8am to find the weatherboard house completely engulfed in flames.

Mount Evelyn and Lilydale CFA crews were initially called to the scene and before long crews from Moorool-

bark, Montrose, Bayswater and Yellingbo were called to help fight the blaze.

Ambulance and police as well as the power and gas company were called to the scene before a search of the property could be conducted.

It is reported the house belonged to Mount Evelyn local Josephine Rega, who lost all her possessions in the blaze.

Leading Senior Constable Sandra Maddern told the Mail that between 6.45am-8am on Monday 23 May, thieves forced the front door of a property on McAllister Road, Monbulk.

The thieves then stole a television, worth about $3000, as well as a purse containing credit cards and personal items.

The cards were then used “a number of times” in the Bayswater area within an hour of the theft, using the card’s tap-to-pay function.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in the area at the time of the burglary is asked to call Monbulk police on 9756 6266 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Ladies’ dress ring found MONBULK police are searching for the owner of a dress ring, after a Good Samaritan handed one in on Monday morning.

Leading Senior Constable Sandra Maddern said the ladies’ dress ring was handed in on Monday 23 May, and urged anyone who has lost a ring to call Monbulk police on 9756 6266.

Youth band to Asia

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS LOCAL Yarra Ranges students will have the opportunity of a lifetime when they travel to Hong Kong as part of the Australian Youth Band next month.

Year 12 students Jess Foley and Annabelle Smith will travel with the band and their music teacher Richard O’Toole.

Mr O’Toole has been involved with the Australian Youth Band for 12 years, and this tour of Hong Kong will be the seventh international tour he’s participated in.

“The students are very excited about this tour,” he said.

Both Ms Foley and Ms Smith said they were very excited to have the opportunity to play their music internationally.

“We have had lots of community support, and we love any opportunity we get to promote the band to different cultures,” Ms Smith said.

“I am looking forward to having this international adventure and to exploring Hong Kong Disney Land,” Ms Foley said.

Before the students set off on their jet setting international adventure, they will perform a one-off show in Mooroolbark for local audiences.

The extraordinary 50-piece band will play a variety of music from classical, jazz, pop and even theatre and show tunes.

RESIDENTS who pay their rates early this year will go into the draw to win prizes worth hundreds of dollars, under a new incentive from the Yarra Ranges Council.

As part of its Draft 2016-’17 Budget, the council has proposed holding a competition for residents who pay their full rate balance by 5pm on 30 September 2016.

If all arrears, rates, charges and the Fire Services Property Levy are paid by that date, they will go into the draw to win prizes, ranging from a Magic Moment at Healesville Sanctuary to an accommodation and dinner package.

First prize is the accommodation and dinner package, worth $1000; second prize is a hot air balloon ride and champagne breakfast, worth $800; third prize is a Puffing Billy ride and lunch, worth $400; fourth prize is a hamper of Yarra Valley products, worth $200; and fifth prize is a Magic Moment at the sanctuary, worth $100.

Yarra Ranges Council’s manager of finance, procurement and rates Angelica Marshall said that many people paid their rates in February, and that the prizes would be encouragement for those who could afford to, to pay early.

Awards bring scholarship, pride

By RUSSELL BENNETT THE Rotary Club of Emerald and District held its Pride of Workmanship Awards at the Paradise Hotel in Clematis recently - thanking and paying tribute to those from a wide cross-section of the community for their contributions to the local area.

Gembrook MP Brad Battin, Cardinia Shire Mayor Jodie Owen and Ranges Ward councillor Leticia Wilmott attended the presentation evening alongside a host of other guests including Rotary District 9810 governor David Tolstrup.

They helped present a range of awards across the education, volunteering, community and business sectors.

The McLeod Murphy Memorial Fund Annual Scholarship was also presented to local student Oscar Hulbert.

The memorial fund provides scholarships in the form of cash grants to tertiary students from Emerald and the surrounding region who’re undertaking studies in medical-related fields.

Each recipient of the award is presented with $2000 - $1000 for one year of study, and a further $1000 a year later if they continue down that path.

Last year, Holly Latter was the recipient, and in 2016 she’s continuing in her third year of a Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Paramedicine at Australian Catholic University in Ballarat.

This year’s new recipient of the McLeod Murphy Award is Oscar Hulbert, who completed Year 12 at Emerald Secondary College in 2015 with an ATAR of 91.95. He’s currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University and dreams of becom-

Heart and soul husband and wife duo Kevin and Merle Mathisen were honoured for their contributions to their Gembrook community.

The current stationmaster at Gembrook’s Puffing Billy station, Kevin has been a member of the Puffing Billy Preservation Society for 55 years and was awarded a Gold Pass in 1992. An avid fun runner, he dreamed up the Great Train Race in 1980 and the Kids Fun Run with Thomas in 2002.

Since moving with their family to Gembrook in 1998, Merle has become immersed in the community - everything from the church, to the market, to the craft group, to the township committee and Puff-

ing Billy. An avid gardener, Merle has a specific interest in the environment and is an active member of the Friends of Gembrook Park, the Southern Ranges Environment Alliance, and the Say No to Ivy campaign. Over the years, Merle has worked in most Puffing Billy gardens but now concentrates on the environs of the station in Gembrook.

This year’s other Pride of Workmanship Award winners include Amanda Flint from Cockatoo Kindergarten, Belinda Anderson from Emerald Village Pharmacy, Susan Witty and Debbie Kestles from Falcone and Adams Lawyers, Roger Neal and Melanie Jackson from Emerald Glades, and Dev Shrestha from the Emerald Commonwealth Bank.

Rotarian Kristine Ash was also presented with a Paul Harris Fellow award by the Emerald and District Rotary Club for her tireless efforts in electronic media - specifically gathering online donations through the Kids Fun Run With Thomas to go towards the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre in Glen Waverley.

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS THURSDAY 26 May will see local Belgrave Businesses come together and host a Biggest Morning Tea to raise money for the Cancer Council.

Bell Real Estate, Belgrave, along with Belgrave Dry Cleaners and Hugs for Kids will be having a party that everyone is invited to.

A mini street party with sweet and savoury treats will be the highlight of the day with hot drinks and raffle prizes, kindly donated by Belgrave Traders, all part of the fun.

Michelle Grace from Bell Real Estate, Belgrave said this year’s Biggest Morning Tea will live up to previous years.

“There is always a real buzz leading up to this event,” MIchelle said.

“We love being able to give back to the

wider community and everyone involved really put their heart and soul into making it a success, we even gave our office signage a facelift.”

This year will be the fourth year local traders from Belgrave have raised money for the Cancer Council with a biggest morning tea.

“We have raised over $1500 for the Cancer Council - a fact we are very proud of,” Michelle said.

“We have already raised $125 via our fund-raising page and are striving to smash our previous total of $540.”

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS EMERALD Secondary College is set to wow audiences with a stage performance of the 2001 smash hit film, Legally Blonde.

The story follows the very blonde Elle Woods as she takes the “dumb blonde” stereotype and, like, totally turns it upside down.

Elle Woods is a sorority president at UCLA, who majors in fashion merchandising and is in love with her boyfriend Warner Huntington the Third, who will attend Harvard Law School the following year.

She excitedly expects him to propose but instead he breaks

up with her, telling her she is not ‘serious’ enough considering his plans for a career in politics.

Despite the break-up Elle is determined that Warner is her true love and decides to take the Law School Admissions Test.

She is accepted into Harvard University and that’s when the fun begins.

The students at Emerald Secondary College have been rehearsing three days a week to bring this production to life; earning all the songs and dance moves that will totes make you love Elle.

Students in Year 11 and 12 theatre studies are responsible

for applying a selected area of stagecraft including hair and make-up, sets and design, direction, costume and multi-media.

It’s been like, a real team effort from these total babes.

Legally Blonde will run from Wednesday 25 May to Saturday 28 May at 7.30pm at the Emerald Secondary College Performing Arts Centre.

ONE of Sydney’s must-see live acts will storm the stage at Sooki Lounge in Belgrave on Thursday 26 May as part of a whirlwind tour on the back of a new EP. Lepers and Crooks played over 200 shows in 2014-’15, a feat which earned them the title of Australia’s hardest-working band.

The band have just finished recording their second EP with Jeff Martin of The Tea Party at his studio just out of Bryon Bay called ‘The Heathen Circus’.

Featuring Sam Baker (vocals), Pat Reuter Town (rhythm guitar and vocals), Alex Court (lead guitar), Garreth Clavijo (bass) and Damien Jones (drums), the five-piece band are electrifying on stage.

Their big rock sound is heavily influenced by classic rock and psychedelic, but with a few mixed modern flavours that make Lepers and Crooks a rather different listen than most rock bands today.

Their sound and charismatic on-stage presence earned the band attention from big names such as Ian Huffam from X-Ray Touring (UK/ Europe), Scott McKenzie from Premier Artists (AUS) and Chris Murphy’s Murphy Music Publishing.

The opening single of ‘The Heathen Circus’ called ‘Let You Go’ is due out on iTunes and Spotify on 12 May, and an extensive east coast tour including Sooki Lounge.

Liked it, then bought it

By VICTORIA STONE-MEADOWS IN A move more expected from the likes of Donald Trump or Warren Buffet, a local Upper Ferntree Gully businessman has bought his favourite bakery to keep it alive.

Gerry Raffaut used to go to the bakery on Burwood Highway for lunch and was dismayed when it went out of business recently.

“I couldn’t buy my lunch,” Mr Raffaut said.

“I’ve been working in area

for 10 years and I would go to bakery every few days.”

With his favourite lunch spot closing down, Mr Raffaut saw an opportunity.

“It was shut about a month ago and it shut three years ago for several months as well - I saw the trend so I called the number and talked about what was going on and within 36 hours I had bought the bakery.”

Mr Raffaut said he wanted the bakery to have a warm and welcoming, rustic feel rather than a modern cafe setting for

his new business.

“The best bakeries I’ve been to in the country always have a good pie, service and have a unique country atmosphere and that’s what I’m trying to re-create through these renovations,” he said.

The bakery will also employ local workers, sell bread and local produce and roast coffee in house.

If all goes smoothly with the upgrades, the official opening of ‘Amelia’s Bakery’ will be Saturday 28 May.

Girls taste success at the ’G

By JARROD POTTER MOUNT EVELYN was well represented recently at the AFL Youth Girls National Championships as Jess Smith and Jess Provan reached the peak of junior representative football.

Smith and Provan featured in premiership success for the Dandenong Stingrays Youth Girls Academy in March and made their way into the Victoria Metro team for one more tilt at an early season football title.

Smith, 18, from Hoddles Creek, couldn’t comprehend the moment as she stood in the middle ready to fight for the first hit-out of the AFL Youth Girls National Championships grand final.

She imposed herself on the ruck contests throughout the week, but especially the grand final as she won the ball in the air and at ground level to help Vic Metro take a whopping 95-point triumph.

“It’s pretty good - bit surreal but,” Smith said. “Tiring, sore, very sore, but it was good fun.

“I played last year’s grand final too and it’s great ... but this one is 10 times better than last year’s - good feeling being on the 'G. “Just the friends you’ll make and the bonds you’ll make - it’s better than family."

What’s more amazing is Smith’s only two years into her Youth Girls football journey featuring the enviable record of winning three premierships in only 24 months on field.

“This is only my second year, but it’s still worth it and still good,’ Smith said. “No idea, just went there one time - that one time turned into two premierships (with Vic Metro) so it’s pretty good.”

Vic Metro coach Wayne Siekman said her results speak for themselves and she went from potential defender to number one ruckman by her demolition of opposition rucks all the way back in February.

“She was our ruckman and back in November when we first spoke to her we wanted to

“So we flagged her as our ruck ... she was going to be a valuable player for us in the grand final and we kept waiting for her to get to the grand final at the MCG when we could let her go and she became a fourth onballer for us ... and she really delivered.”

On the flip-side Provan, 16, from Lilydale, had her chances during the week - digging in under the packs and hitting up the forwards excellently by foot to savour her second campaign.

While she didn’t feature in the grand final side, she thoroughly enjoyed every second of being in the Youth Girls ranks once again and looks to target 2017 and return to the mix.

“It was just a remarkable week and it wouldn’t have been like that without the girls,” Provan said. “They were by each other throughout the whole process of try-outs and the week at nationals.

“I loved every moment of it and can't wait for 2017 to begin for Vic Nationals.”

Leaving Provan out of the grand final side - for the second time in two years - was one of Siekman’s toughest decisions

- but believes the way she handled it defined her character and professionalism.

“She was a hard one - we didn’t select her in the grand final last year and the same thing happened again on Friday,” Siekman said. “Probably the hardest discussion and news I had to give anyone in my career.

“To tell the girl who made the team for two years and telling her twice in a row was hard ... she was the 25th player and I’ve got to reward her for her character.

“She was extremely disappointed Friday morning - everyone could imagine that - but to her credit by the time the game had come around she had warmed up as a player and was ready to come in if she had to.”

He believes her constant professionalism and ability to fight her way into matches will see her make her way into the Vic Metro regular ranks eventually, as she’ll be too hard to ignore.

“A couple of games this year - kicking under pressure - she hit targets she couldn’t last year, and improved out of sight,” Siekman said. “Like the whole Vic Metro team we’ve improved individually and as a team and she said she’s going to come back even bigger and better for next year.

“Hopefully the disappointment of the last two years holds her in good stead to go all the way next year.”

TWO young Olympic hopefuls from the Yarra Valley will be flying to Azerbaijan next months in the hope of qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in boxing.

Harry Garside, 18, and Mat Sheehan, 25, have been training under Brian Levier at the Lilydale youth club their whole careers and have many overseas successes in their journey towards the Olympic Games.

“I’m super nervous, but also super proud,” Mr Garside said. “It’s a really big thing for me and Mat and really big for the gym too.”

Both young contenders attempted Olympic qualifications in The Asian/Ocean Qualifiers in China where Mr Sheehan lost his first fight, but Mt Garside won against New Zealand.

Mr Garside then lost in a controversial decision against the home team, meaning that he was eliminated from the competition.

Since then both boxers have been undergoing rigorous training for their trip to Azerbaijan and the last chance Olympic qualifier.

“It’s a huge honour representing Australia in this sport overseas,” Mr Garside said.

“I feel prepared and ready for this next, and it’s something I’ve always dreamed of but never expected to get here when I first walked into the gym as a nine-year-old boy.”

Coach Brian Levier said he couldn’t be more proud of the two young men he had coached for over 10 years.

“Boxing is one of the hardest sports in the world, and these young men train so hard to get where they are.”

Mr Levier said no matter what happened at the Olympic qualifier, he was proud of the terrific young men Mr Sheehan and Mr Garside had grown into.

A beautiful autumn’s day was enjoyed by all, with the wind playing a factor.

They spread out, used their voice and maintained their positions well. The last quarter, they lost a bit of concentration and let them back into the game. Yarra Ranges are champs THE Yarra Ranges hosted Mornington Peninsula at Healesville Football Ground on Saturday for the 2016 WorkSafe Community Championships.

The sun was shining, the breeze was blowing and everybody was geared up to witness some high standards in football and netball.

The Yarra Ranges were coming off a disappointing performance in 2015 and were looking at making amends.

Coming up against an unknown quantity in Mornington Peninsula Nepean was always going to make it an interesting contest.

Coaches Danny Ryan and Simon Blackney had their boys prepared while Sarah Hogan and Rachael Hickey were looking at showing just how strong the Yarra Ranges Netball competition is and they did not disappoint.

FOOTBALL SENIOR Yarra Ranges 13.8(86) d Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL(2) 12.4(76) Yarra Ranges started the day off with a blast, kicking with a slight breeze to the dog track end of the ground.

Rodney Woodford (Healesville) kicked 3 in the first and it looked like it might be all one way traffic.

Mornington fought back late in the quarter, kicking three themselves and it was all square at quarter time.

The challenge was on.

Jordy Williams (Woori Yallock) and Justin Myers (Wandin) were the driving force through the centre, while Damon Kift (Mount Evelyn) was working hard across the backline.

It was goal for goal in the second and Yarra went into the major break with a 1-point lead.

Words from the coach at half-time was to be smart.

Play tempo footy, know when to slow the ball down and hold onto it.

Look for our opportunities.

That is just what they did in the third, taking advantage of the breeze and held Mornington goalless while kicking 3.

Ben Monkhorst (Woori Yallock), Robbie Hartfield (Mount Evelyn) and Marcus Hottes (Olinda) started to make their presence felt.

Mornington made a run in the last, kicking 5 goals to 3, but just could not get around the defence of Bart Wallace (Alexandra) and James Marasco (Yea).

Matt Polkinghorne (Wandin) played a captain’s role and lead by example all day.

Yarra Ranges fought hard all day, but it was never going to be easy to claw back the lead that Mornington had.

Mornington played a well-drilled possession game of football and Yarra were always chasing.

Nelson Aldridge (Healesville) was a strong option up forward but the boys just could not break through the defences of Mornington to get the ball to him.

Riley Aldous (Yea), Austin Smith (Yarra Glen) and Travis Gromer (Monbulk) ran all day.

The lead at halftime was 30 points.

Yarra came out and regrouped in the second half and kicked 5 goals, but Mornington maintained the pressure and kicked 10 goals themselves.

NETBALL OPEN Yarra Ranges 63 d Mornington Peninsula 36 Yarra Ranges went into this year’s interleague defending their reputation as one of the premier netball competitions in the state.

They certainly did no damage to it beating Mornington Peninsula by 30 goals.

The game started at a frenetic pace with Yarra Ranges shooting 14 goals to 11.

Ash Howard (Olinda) started off with a 9 goal first quarter.

Krista Tomlinson was as always a force to be reckoned with in the centre, while the trio of Kaitlyn Black (Mount Evelyn), Ty Coppinger (Wandin) and Tamara Luke (Olinda) were a real mountain to try and shoot over.

Another 17 goals in the second to 8 saw a lead of 12 goals at halftime.

The final straw was the 18-goal

third quarter that really put the result to rest.

UNDER17s Yarra Ranges 49 d Mornington Peninsula 24 The girls came out full of running.

They got the jump from the outset with Emerson Woods (Warburton Millgrove) and Holly McInerney (Wandin) setting the scene under the ring. Ciara Lumsden (Wandin) was a goer all day.

A seven-goal lead at the first break set up the match.

Holly McInerney was amazing under the ring, shooting nine and 10 goals in the second and third quarters, while the defence stood tall led by Emelie Ainslie-Aitkens (Wandin), Alanna Lennie (Wandin) and Stephanie Durant (Warburton Millgrove).

The final quarter was the biggest scoring quarter, with Yarra shooting 16 to Mornington 5. A well-deserved win to the girls.

Motoring Roll up for 4x4 action

By KATH GANNAWAY IF THE great outdoors is your thing, the National 4x4 Outdoors Show, Fishing and Boating Expo is going to grab your attention.

The show returns to the Melbourne Showgrounds in August, and the Mail, in conjunction with the organisers, has 10 double passes to give away.

Surrounded by national parks and the Great Divide, it’s no surprise that this show, and the annual ticket giveaway is popular with Mail readers.

The action-packed outdoors haven for fishermen, boat enthusiasts, 4WDers and outback tourers will showcase tens of thousands of fishing, boating, camping, outdoors and 4x4 products from over 200 leading exhibitors and retailers.

Event director, Paul Mathers, said they were thrilled to be bringing the show back to Melbourne.

“The show will once again cater for all interests in the great outdoors,” Mr Mathers said.

“Whether it’s fishing, boating, camping or four wheel driving you’re passionate about, you will be in outdoors heaven at the show.”

The show will feature more than 30,000 square metres of the best outdoors products and services in a onestop shop bringing exhibitors and enthusiasts together for everything to do with outdoor adventure.

Mr Mathers said exhibitors came from a wide range of categories and some exciting big-name exhibitors had already signed on.

“We will be showcasing everything from big ticket items such as boats, caravans and four wheel drives, to fishing rods, outdoors clothing and accessories,” he said.

Tickets will soon be on sale for the landmark event that also bring a fantastic line-up of special guests and industry experts to the Melbourne Showgrounds.

The line-up to date includes the ever-popular Paul Worsteling from TV’s iFish, Roothy the Bush Mechanic, Jase Andrews from All 4 Adventure, Shaun and Graham from 4WD Action, and Rick, Jamie and fishing legend Starlo from The Offroad Adventure Show.

Ex-AFL legend Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt and his wife Sheree will also feature hosting the popular Campfire Cooking Corner.

For 4WD enthusiasts, the Waeco Outback Stage and dedicated 4WD

On track for a great 4WD experience. 154543 Proving Ground, a purpose-built track run by 4WD Victoria, will provide the opportunity to learn how to use a 4x4 to its maximum capability on a variety of surfaces simulating being off the beaten track.

To entertain all ages, the exciting Action Arena will feature the awardwinning Outback Thunda monster truck and the roly-poly car will show off its amazing backflips, with still

more entertainment to be announced.
