Candidates in both electorates are excited to welcome the two-month election campaign period that will give them the chance to preach what they propose to deliver to their electorate if voted in.

While Farrer currently shows as a very safe Liberal seat with only three rivals in the running, Indi launches into yet another highly competitive election with seven rivals with their eyes on the seat.

Just like the previous election, there will be much attention on Indi and the contest will be competitive.

Member for Indi Cathy McGowan said she proudly stood on her record during her reign so far as the sitting Member for Indi, and looked forward to giving the people of Indi a choice for the future. â&#x20AC;&#x153;We have been able to deliver a huge amount for the electorate,â&#x20AC;? Ms McGowan said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Not only the money coming in, but the involvement of people. Over 2000 people were involved in the Summit Campaign. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a lot of time to get out and about and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m looking forward to opening hubs ... Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be talking to people about what weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve been able to do so far.â&#x20AC;?

Ms McGowan said there were three particular areas she would be focusing on for the campaign.

â&#x20AC;&#x153;As an independent, I want to be able to deliver for the community â&#x20AC;&#x201C; thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important,â&#x20AC;? she said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The second thing we want to talk about is what we are doing for the future - the vision for Indi, how to involve young people in politics, and to ensure weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve got mobile phone coverage everywhere we go. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The third thing is really engaging people in democracy ... every vote is going to count and thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a huge gift to the people of Indi to know that their vote is really going to matter.â&#x20AC;?

Labor in Farrer is still yet to select a candidate to compete for the seat against sitting member and Liberal MP Sussan Ley, and minor parties the Greens and Australian Liberty Alliance.

Ms Ley said despite the uncertainty that Australia faced with a changing regional economy, Farrer still had a strong agricultural base. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Agriculture brings value in areas of transport and manufacturing and I want to see the

innovation economy add value to all of the sound fundamentals that we see,â&#x20AC;? she said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Farrer is the home of irrigated agriculture and Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m going to be speaking up for the that end to secure water entitlements for our farmers. It also fits into value adding and innovation. â&#x20AC;&#x153;If we can attract thoughts of innovation in agriculture then we will really be punching above our weight as a region.â&#x20AC;?

Ms Ley said although the date of the election had been a â&#x20AC;&#x153;fairly badly kept secretâ&#x20AC;?, she is now looking forward to campaigns getting underway. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I actually love the idea of a long campaign as it gives me time to get out and about,â&#x20AC;? Ms Ley said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s going to be busy, as Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be spending half the time with my Health Ministerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hat on in other parts of the country and promoting our strong record of health policy, and the other half Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be doing a very grassroots campaign in the electorate.â&#x20AC;?

Cancer centre ready for opening Lions Club of Albury president Don Fielder said over a thousand children with disability and their guardians or carers attended the show this year.

“Each year we choose a particular local cause to donate the funds we raise from the Magic Show and this year we wanted to support the opening of the cancer centre,” Mr Fielder said.

“It’s very impressive and although I don’t have any experience with cancer myself, I know this will be a great asset to the local communities.

“I think Albury does a great effort to raise funds for things like this.”

By MONIQUE KUZEFF OVER 45 community fund-raising groups and individuals have contributed to almost $800,000 to facilitate the mid-year opening of the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre (AWRCC).

The AWRCC Trust Fund committee’s goal to raise $2 million by the end of 2017 is looking promising with the effort and large contributions donated by community fund-raisers in the Albury Wodonga region.

The proceeds will assist with the operational side of the health facility through the purchasing of cancer equipment, aiding staff development, updating equipment and programs at the Wellness Centre and assisting with cancer clinical trials and research.

AWRCC fund-raising, marketing and events manager Jane Evans said a large variety of community groups and individuals had contributed to the trust fund since its establishment in 2013.

“We’ve got people from all walks of life coming out of the woodwork to fund-raise for us,” Ms Evans said.

“Ladies bowling clubs and service clubs through to high school kids, and the thing they all have in common is that cancer resonates with them and touched them in some way whether they’ve been through it themselves or they know someone who has.”

Ms Evans said she was humbled by the efforts and passion of the community to support the AWRCC through the fund.

“We can plod along as a cancer facility and just receive the odd government grant, or we can be a first class, pro-active and really formidable cancer centre with facilities that rival metropolitan areas,” she said.

“That can only happen with the community's passionate efforts to fund-raise.”

The Rotary Club of Bellbridge Lake Hume has been an ongoing supporter of the AWRCC Trust Fund over the past four consecutive years and has raised a total of $84,500 to date through its annual Lake Hume Cycle Challenge held in February.

SIX cars caused a pile-up on High Street on Monday morning after a white 4WD ute collided with a small red vehicle at around 10.20am.

After hitting the red car, the ute lost control, swerving on to the right-hand side of the road before ramming a parked vehicle into silver car and then a building window.

Another two cars were damaged before the ute stopped near O’maille’s Pub. Fortunately no-one was seriously injured in the impact.

Police came to the scene followed by the SES, CFA and ambulance and the six damaged vehicles were towed away.

Virus release to kill off the carp

By MONIQUE KUZEFF THE alarming number of Murray-Darling Basinâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most notorious river pest might be reduced significantly with the Federal Governmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s $15 million investment plan to rid NSW river systems of the European fish species.

The funding would enable the National Carp Control Plan to undertake further research, approvals, and consultation to develop a carefully considered plan for the potential release of a herpes virus by the end of 2018, intended to specifically target common carp.

Carp constitute around 80 per cent of the biomass in the river causing significantly environmental damage by stirring up sediment and decimating native fish. They also cause an estimated annual expenditure of up to $500 million.

Farrer MP Sussan Ley said the carp-specific herpes virus, expected to be released by 2018, is based on â&#x20AC;&#x153;cutting-edge biological controls and â&#x20AC;&#x153;backed by the best available scienceâ&#x20AC;?. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Current carp control methods, such as trapping and commercial fishing, are expensive and just havenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t worked,â&#x20AC;? Ms Ley said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;This plan will be based on the potential release of a biological control agent that only affects carp (CyHV-3).

From 2008, CSIRO began to undertake research on the herpes virus with funding from the Invasive Animals Co-operative Research Centre (CRC).

The rigorous testing provided evidence that the virus would not affect 13 native species including Murray cod, catfish and various species of perch.

Ms Ley said certain measures would be taken before the release of the virus to ensure it is safe

â&#x20AC;&#x153;It will identify other complementary methods needed to meet our aim of eradicating the species within three decades.â&#x20AC;?

The herpes virus targets the kidneys, skin and gills of the carp, which are all important in aiding water balance for the fish. This effectively causes a water imbalance and the damaged gills affect the carpâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ability to breathe, which becomes the cause of death.

Ms Ley said carp have continued to decimate native fish across the country and reduced water quality since they were introduced in to Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s waterways in the 1960s.

Budget looks to â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;ideas boomâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;

By MONIQUE KUZEFF THE Turnbull Government released its first budget last week, setting out the economic outlook for Australia and highlighting the governmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s investment plan to create more jobs and growth, improve the tax system and control government expenditure.

The budget outlines the governmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s plan for jobs and growth through a 10year enterprise tax plan that aims to â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;boost new investment, create and support jobs and increase real wagesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;.

This would be facilitated by tax cuts for small and medium-sized businesses to make it easier for them to invest, expand and employ more workers.

Furthermore, the government would continue its investment in the $1.1 billion National Innovation and Science agenda to move further towards an â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;ideas boomâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; and encourage businesses and individuals to take on new opportunities that would create â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;competition, access to new markets and employment growthâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;.

This also complements the youth jobs path program, in which the government has invested $88.6 million to support job seekers who wish to build their own businesses.

A 20-year defence industry plan to secure an advanced local defence industry, increasing export

opportunities, and working towards providing young Australians with real work experience opportunities that lead to real jobs are also a part of the governmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s investment plan to drive economic growth and create jobs.

In addressing issues with the current tax system, the budget sets out a plan to create a more steady tax system for future generations.

This would be addressed through combating tax avoidance, cutting superannuation tax concessions for the wealthier Australians and tax relief to Australian individuals and businesses to enable them to earn more without increased tax.

Lastly, the government wanted to work towards balancing the budget by getting its expenditure under control and reducing long-term debt.

This would be approached by ensuring government allocation of money is â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;efficient, effective and well-targetedâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;.

The government would more closely target the welfare safety net through ways such as establishing a $1.7 billion child and adult public dental scheme and investing over $40 billion in childcare support over the next four years.

Expenditure would also be invested in hospital and education services, and roads, rails, public transport and dams.

TALKING about depression, anxiety, suicide and difficulties in life is not a part of the tradie culture and consequently tradies across Australia suffer in silence and struggle to find an outlet, often turning to alcohol and drugs.

According to Hope Assistance Local Tradies (HALT) founder Jeremy Forbes, the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;sheâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll be rightâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; attitude is prominent in the tradie culture and can often lead to resentment and mental illness.

Having been in the construction industry for over 25 years, Mr Forbes has experienced the highs and lows of what he calls a "toxic tradie culture". â&#x20AC;&#x153;Not every tradie job site is toxic and not everyone is suffering with mental health, but some of the things Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve both seen and experienced over my career are bullying, harassment, sexism and racism,â&#x20AC;? Mr Forbes said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a stigma attached that you have to be strong and tough and if you show signs of weakness you let the team down.â&#x20AC;?

Founded in 2013, Mr Forbes said HALT was initially inspired after the tragic suicide of a mate he had known for 15 years. â&#x20AC;&#x153;He seemed like he was the happiest bloke at the time and two weeks after I had last spoken to him, he suicided,â&#x20AC;? he said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;This was the catalyst to the stuff Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;d gone through and the dam just broke under his weight. â&#x20AC;&#x153;It was a very tragic movement and I grabbed a few guys and said â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;hey, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve got to talk to me and tell me what youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re feelingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;.â&#x20AC;?

The HALT program was first delivered in Castlemaine and has now been delivered 35 times at venues across NSW and Victoria. Mr Forbes has developed a strategic plan with a goal to launch the program statewide and eventually nationwide.

The program offers a pragmatic approach to suicide prevention, depression and anxiety in a simple and effective way by linking tradies to local and national mental health support services, Mr Forbes said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;It really gets to the heart of where the tradies are at and thereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brutal honesty about it and opening up conversation. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s about social inclusion and talking to tradies in their language and in a place where they feel safe and secure,â&#x20AC;? he said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;There is no expectation for the tradies to talk but invariably when they are set in an environment where they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to talk, the get talking.â&#x20AC;?

The program aims to break down the stigma surrounding depression, anxiety and suicide in way of a â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Save Your Baconâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; breakfast, which is held in a hardware store, private business, TAFE or secondary college.

It includes free bacon and egg breakfast, guest speakers from the likes of health service professionals and experienced tradies, and a HALT bag containing information about local and national mental health organisations including Beyond Blue and Lifeline.

Mr Forbes wanted to expand HALT further into regional cities across the states and encouraged community leaders and businesses to take the program on board. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The pain of regret is far greater than the pain of hard work,â&#x20AC;? he said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;It can be confronting and hard but there is a potential to save lives through this program.â&#x20AC;?

Students get a taste of uni life

By MONIQUE KUZEFF AS the saying goes, you don’t know what it’s like until you’ve experienced it for yourself.

Around 400 students from across the Border and as far as Griffith, Mansfield and Wangaratta got to experience a day in the life of a university student at Latrobe University in Wodonga last Friday.

The Experience Latrobe day, co-ordinated

by Latrobe’s Community Engagement committee, welcomed 15 schools groups and individual students who came along with their parents to engage in hands-on activities and workshops of first year university students.

The secondary students were able to choose from 14 different workshops in the areas such as science, nursing, business, arts, social work, psychology and student exchange.

Latrobe Community Engagement co-ordinator Jessica Watt said the day was all about secondary students experiencing different types of courses and alleviating any reservations they might have about university.

“It’s not just a sit and listen and get information event, it’s about alleviating any fears that they might have that uni is going to be way out of their reach or extremely hard,” Ms Watt said.

“For the Year 10s it about making them realise that uni is an option to them as a lot of them think it’s something out of their reach.

“The Year 12s are able to look at the courses and choose something that’s right for them as well as giving them an insight in to what uni might be like.”

Murray High School Year 11 student William Judd said he was intially daunted by the idea of university but looked forward to experiencing a day in the life of a university student.

“I think a lot of kids think uni is scary because it seems like a big place where you must go to get your degree and people get worried about it being a big goal and thing for the future,” William said.

“I’m hoping to see what I’d experience if I were to go to uni here or somewhere else, so far it seems pretty laid back,” William said.

“I have previously thought about going to uni because I want to learn more, get some qualifications and get somewhere in my life.

William said he was interested in look at science based courses at both the local universities and metropolitan universities.

“I chose to do the science workshop because I really like my science and it will give me an opportunity to see what I’d be able to do with it.

“I want to do something around chemistry or physics because I really enjoy them.

“I think it’s a very good idea to put on this day because obviously there are a lot of kids here that are going to get something out of this experience hopefully.”

The day also included a free lunch, live band, basketball, table tennis, tour of student accommodation and a question and answer session to highlight other perks of student life and to provide the secondary students with a taste of the social side of university.

FRIENDS, families, foreigners and business people contributed to an estimated $227 million injection into the local Border economies last year.

Albury-Wodonga received over 660,000 domestic overnight visitors mostly from Victoria (48.7 per cent) followed by New South Wales visitors (31.2 per cent), which constituted a part of the 13.5 per cent increase of visitation to the area on the year ending December 2014.

The increasing figure was a combination of holiday visitors (21 per cent), visitors of friends and family (38.3 per cent) and visitors on business (around 27.2 per cent).

Murray Regional Tourism executive officer Mark Francis said it had a lot to do with affiliation that Albury and Wodonga have with Melbourne and Sydney tourism.

“This region has become a touring route from Melbourne and Sydney, particularly for the international market, “There’s been focus on some more dedicated work through the digital outlets in shifting some of the campaigns around what people are engaging with.

Mr Francis said there has been more online marketing specifically targeted towards visitors to highlight activities and features that might take their interests.

“In Albury-Wodonga

you’ve got lots of new facilities and activities appearing online, “MAMA is having quite a big impact and you’ve got lots of new cafes, cultural activities and events occurring, as well as the redevelopment around Noreuil – there’s some great new elements appearing.”

According to Tourism Research Australia quarterly visitation statistics, international visitation to the whole Murray region increased by 13 per cent with about $55,800 people from overseas travelling to the area. It gained an estimated $62 million into the local economy, which is a 30.5 per cent increase for the same period last year.

Mr Francis said it again comes down to the online marketing and a focus on building awareness through the region “It’s an outcome of the consolidated effort from various places around the region and the cities in highlighting the whole Murray region as a great holiday destination.

“The majority of international visitors to the area come for leisure and because we have a better Aussie dollar at the moment, it is making us a top market destination for overseas visitors.”

Floating with the creative spirit “ART extends beyond what you see in a gallery, it extends to every part of your life.”

This is what emerging Melbourne-based artist Petra Nicel said when she was asked to explain what art is.

“It extends to landscape, advertising and architecture.

Without creative people it would become obvious how much we rely on the creative spirit.”

During years of studying art, Petra, who is originally from Euroa, was trying to discover her creative identity until she was drawn to ideas of abstraction, tangibility, and fragility.

She played around with various mediums before fi-

nally landing on photography, wax transparency and light.

Petra said her imagery is based on the idea of tangibility and abstraction and wanted her viewers to get a sense of fragility and femininity.

“The mediums tied in really nicely with the things I was exploring,” she said.

“I really like the sensitivity of those mediums, of how the light bounces of them beautifully and really captures the delicate nature of at times being female.”

Petra is displaying 19 pieces of her imagery at Arts Space Wodonga until 28 May. Her imagery includes cloud-like forms and substances that create a sensation of floating and of the unknown.

Petra said her favourite piece in her collection is Frail, a photographic print which she did as a part of a series in 2013.

“I did this after I first landed on wax as a medium and was creating small sculptures out of organic bee’s wax, which I’d melt down using water as a mean of shaping these small sculptures.

“This image is a documentation of that process I was going through and because of these images are so abstract I’ve gotten a lot of different responses to them.”

The immersive exhibition also includes a corresponding video artwork exploring visuals of familiar objects or substances.

Dr Brabant said the plates are on for about six to nine months and then Invisalign is

Dr Brabant is the founder of Carevan in 2009, which are vans that drive around different communities from Monday to Friday to feed the homeless.

He said the Carevan enabled school kids to volunteer and help out those people in need where they get to spend sessions cooking in a commercial kitchen and develop compassion for homeless persons.

“Eventually, stage two, you start getting a stronger headache and neck pain, a runny nose clear watery nasal discharge, aversion to the wind and cold and generally feel out of it.

“If left untreated, stage three, it then turns hot, and you get a sore throat, yellow and green mucus and a fever, a hot flushed face.

“From here stage four, it can quickly affect the lungs ending up in a cough with green/yellow mucus, and a higher temperature, or it can affect the stomach

leading to nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and even dehydration.”

In the first three examples treatment with acupuncture and Chinese herbs is to cause the patient to sweat to push out the virus, boosting a response from the immune system and limiting the congestion in the throat and the sinuses to help build up the antibodies towards the virus.

In the later lung example, treatment would be aimed at clearing the phlegm and cooling the system to regulate the immune system.

FOR many, it doesn’t take much to lure out anger. Often, it can be a wasteful and counter-productive emotion to be constantly bearing.

There are lots of books, articles, classes, and “how to” courses on how to help with anger management, all of them claiming to have the key information that’s needed to manage and control anger issues.

The problem is that their basic assumption is wrong. If you manage your anger, the thinking goes, that means you’re not getting rid of your anger, just learning how to continuously control and manage these bad feelings.

The feelings are permanent; they never go away, so you’re bound to get angry again if you don’t manage them properly.

This approach simply does not work, because it just perpetuates anger instead of resolving it. Anger is a perfectly normal and natural feeling that everyone experiences from time to time, but it is not a terribly useful emotion.

That anger may have started in one of a number of different ways. Maybe it’s holding on to a minor event, carrying the resentment around and letting it grow until it eventually erupts.

Foster and Allan wander back

By TANIA PHILLIPS FOSTER and Allen - Ireland’s most famous and successful duo are returning to Australia and are set to play The Cube in early June.

Mick Foster and Tony Allen have been performing together for over 30 years, and this will be their 18th trip to Australia.

These charismatic singers have a unique blend of easy listening and folk music all over the world and their popularity is proven by their record sales.

Between them they have sold 20

million records, making them one of Ireland’s biggest entertainment exports, in the same league as U2, Enya, Boyzone and The Corrs.

Their 27 albums have included the immensely popular The Rambles of Spring, A Bunch of Thyme, Maggie and After All These Years and 100 Hit Legends. Their chart success stretches back to 1982 with their first appearance on Top Of The Pops.

With this tour they will release 'Celebration', which of course celebrates Foster and Allen’s 40 years as a performing, touring and recording duo.

This new album features two duets with The Chieftains and Sir Jimmy Shand and his band.

Formed in 1975, this most famous singing duo in Irish music history began working on the local music circuits of Ireland and England. Soon, with their own special brand of music, the duo became hugely popular.

In the first year, Foster and Allen recorded their first single, The Rambles of Spring which was a massive hit on both sides of the Irish Sea. Tony Allen was born in Mount Temple, Ireland, the youngest of nine

children. His family loved music and encouraged Tony’s interest in it from a very early age.

In 1968, he turned professional, playing guitar and singing on a national level with many well-known Irish bands. He met Mick Foster in 1975 and they joined to form Foster and Allen.

Mick was born in County Kildare and began playing the piano accordion at age 13. In 1964, at 17, he won the first of three All Ireland Accordion Championships.

The Foster and Allen band accompanying them to Australia in-

cludes Moyra Fraser (keyboards), Ollie Kennedy (bass guitar) and Bryan O’Donnell (guitar).

After 40 years, their popularity continues to flourish and fans often travel long distances to catch their shows each time they tour Australia.

Perch Creek branches out THE outstanding success of Music in the Gardens will continue when five-piece indie folk band Perch Creek perform on Sunday 15 May. The free event will be the final Music in the Gardens for the 2016 Autumn season, and it is anticipated over 1000 people will attend.

Melbourne-based Perch Creek, once known as the Perch Creek Family Jugband, have entertained national and international audiences with their joyful and infectious blend of folk, roots and rock musical styles. Now all grown up their diverse instrumentation includes guitar, double bass, keyboard, trombone, saw, banjo and tap dancing and four of the band members are siblings.

The entertainment will sparkle from 1-3pm with the picturesque setting of the Albury Botanic Gardens providing the per-

fect backdrop for a relaxing afternoon.

Gourmet burgers, wood-fired oven pizza, paella, and beverages will be available for sale. BYO picnic and alcohol is also permitted.

A limited number of chairs and tables are provided, but there’s ample space for your own picnic rug and cushions.

In the case of wet weather the event will be moved to the Albion Hotel, Dean Street.

The Music in the Gardens series is presented by AlburyCity and Johnsons MME and will return in September for the Spring season.

Country towns are a hotbed of price rises

WHILE house prices in regional Victoria increased 4.5 per cent in the year to 31 March, new REIV data shows several regional towns experienced significant capital growth.

Horsham in western Victoria saw the state’s highest annual growth with house prices there rising to a new median peak price of $237,000, well ahead of March last year where the median price was below $200,000.

Significant growth was also recorded in Daylesford where house prices rose more than 20 per cent in the 12 month period to a median of $485,000.

This was up from a median of $401,500 for the same period last year.

Other towns performing strongly in the year to 31 March were the Ballarat suburb of Soldiers Hill and West Wodonga on the Victorian-NSW border.

House prices in Soldiers Hill increased 17.5 per cent over the year to a median of $373,000, up from $317,500 for the same period last year.

Meanwhile, West Wodonga’s median house price rose 16.9 per cent over the year to a median of $331,500. This was up from $283,500 in March 2015.

Local Sport Good day for the umps GOOD umpiring has highlighted the clash between North Albury and Yarrawonga at the weekend, with Yarrawonga eventually winning by 46 points.

If fans saw this each week, they would be satisfied. It was a fast game that saw the visitors have a comfortable 46-point win over a fast-running Hoppers combination. Some good marking, slick handball and overall a great spectacle.

Albury put a decent prick in the Bulldog balloon with a huge win over Wodonga at the home of the Tiger.

Josh Mellington was in great form again with a bag of eight. Wodonga had been playing some good football but they were dealt a Master Class by the Masters!

Closest game of the round was at Birallee Park, where the hosts worked hard all day to shake off a determined Rovers side who fell just two goals short of the home side.

Lavington demolished the young Kangaroos combination at the Panthers home ground. Back to what we know they can produce. Certainly Kangaroo coach Burgess will instil in his charges that that was part of that vicious learning curve.

McNamara Reserve Myrtleford will be the scene for a game that holds a great deal of intrigue. Myrtleford’s form hasn’t been all that bad, save for a forgettable venture to the Albury sports ground while Raiders haven’t covered themselves in glory at all. They are building a bit of momentum but a confident Alpine combination will be on alert. If the track is heavy, as well it may according to the forecasters, the home side could be in for another win.

Corowa Rutherglen will welcome the hapless Magpies to the John Foord oval and if they are to taste a victory then this opportunity should not be let pass. It’s hard tipping against the Magpies when you consider their talent, both youthful and experienced, but what the key is remains uncertain. The Roos after pushing the Rovers to four points get the “nod” for this one.

The sand-based J.C.Lowe oval will be appreciated by both sides this week in what is the clash of the round, with Lavington making the trip downstream to the luxurious surface at the Grove. Yarrawonga were impressive last week against North Albury as were the Panthers against the Roos. Yarrawonga although hit with injury to some key players should take the four points in a tight and tough encounter against last year’s Grand Finalists. Yarrawonga it is!
