TENTERFIELD Shire Council will begin the search for a new general manager next week following the resignation of Lotta Jackson after a fouryear term.

Mayor Peter Petty said Ms Jackson had accepted an executive position in the health industry and her resignation would come into effect in early March.

He said an extraordinary meeting of the council would be held next Wednesday to start the process which could take up to two months.

Mayor Petty said the meeting would be held to choose the organisation that would conduct the search and interviews for the new GM and then things would progress from there.

He said the council had been sad to see Lotta Jackson leave after her long tenure.

“Although sorry to see the general manager go, Lotta goes with our best wishes and I know the community of Tenterfield Shire will join me in wishing her well,” Mayor Petty said.

A PROSPECTIVE candidate for the Southern Downs Regional Council election, Marika McNichol, says the current council has failed to consult with constituents and ratepayers over key decisions such as steep rate rise.

“People need to feel that their views are being heard and that their local council understands the problems and pressures they are feeling,” Marika said.

“I just don’t see that happening here, and I feel let down.”

She said cost of living rises applied to rates in recent years were a blatant example of lack of consultation.

“Queensland Treasury figures show that the region has a median personal income of just $448 per week and household income of $837 per week. Some of the most disadvantaged areas of the state are in this council area. Steep rate rises particularly disadvantage people on low incomes and that isn’t fair.”

She says council services must be reviewed to ensure ratepayers receive value for money.

“The sustainable solution is to get council’s operating budget into balance, its services properly managed and policies focused on promoting economic growth,” she said.

“One thing we can do immediately is start listening to the people of the Southern Downs and understanding their needs, not just Warwick and Stanthorpe but all of the villages."

Busking champs the best STANTHORPE is set to become a magnet for some of the region's best and most talented buskers when it hosts the Australian National Busking Championships South East Queensland Regional Finals on Saturday 27 February.

And Stanthorpe Rotary Club president Neil O’Connor said they were looking for as many participants as they could have.

Stanthorpe Rotary Club president Neil O’Connor said the club envisaged making the ANBC Stanthorpe an annual event.

“We would like to see this event benefit our local community and businesses in the entire region in much the same way as the club’s Opera in the Vineyard has done over the past 23 years," he said.

Mr O’Connor said the new venture had received great support from local sponsors, and nominations from buskers were beginning to trickle in.

If you know anyone with talent, encourage them to nominate he said.

The event is being hosted by the Rotary club of Stanthorpe, and will coincide with the first weekend of the Apple and Grape Harvest Festival’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Buskers will play at nominated stations in the main street, moving between stations throughout the day. A panel of judges will select finalists and they will perform at a finals concert in the Weeroona Park Band Shell from 4pm.

There are several categories for buskers including Open, Indigenous, Primary and Secondary Students, Best Band and People Choice.

The people’s choice award will be decided by public voting with Rotary Dollars purchased at the A&G centre and various other sponsors outlets for $1 a ticket. The tickets sold also go into a lucky prize draw during the concert.

In brief Assault charges at home A 38-YEAR-OLD man was charged with one count of assault and eight breaches of a domestic violence order after a search warrant was executed on premises in College Road, Stanthorpe, on Thursday 28 January.

Stanthorpe police Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland said police also seized mobile phones from the address. Police also lodged an application objecting to his bail.

Senior Sgt Ireland said the incident was related to a domestic disturbance police attended on the night of 24 July 2015, where two Stanthorpe police officers were assaulted by the male offender who was charged with serious assault with respect to that incident.

During the evening, the Rotary club will be operating a barbecue and chairs will be available for the public as they cheer on the buskers.

Judges for the event are Allan Spencer the founder of the ANBC and his wife Leslie Schindler. Graham French who sang as a Tenor in Opera Australia and has maintained a passion for music will join the judging panel in Stanthorpe. He has been a member of judging panel for ANBC for the past four years. The fourth member of the judging panel is Brisbane's James Lloyd founder and director of the Brisbane School of Guitar. Lloyd has been a teacher and performer in the music industry for 40 years.

The Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC) is now in its fourth year. During these years, the ANBC has been held exclusively in Cooma, NSW. The Stanthorpe Regional Finals are part of the next stage, which is to make this event a truly National Championship by holding Regional Finals Championships in various towns around Australia. The winners from these regional events will then be invited to compete in the grand final back in Cooma on the first weekend in November of each year.

Police intervened in a disturbance at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds on Saturday night issuing one of the offenders with a public nuisance infringement.

Investigations are continuing after a complaint of assault was made to police at a later time, stemming from the same incident.

Senior Sgt Mark Ireland said a few minor disturbances were also attended by police in the CBD resulting in a number of move-on directions being given and infringements issued for offences of public urination.

THREE drug drivers and one drink driver were detected during traffic enforcement operations, during the first week of school.

A 22-year-old man was intercepted last Monday afternoon, a 51- year-old Brisbane man driving a Prime Mover was intercepted on Wednesday evening and a 31-year-old man, an overseas tourist, on Saturday night, and all charged with drug driving.

A 27-year-old female tourist was charged with drink driving last Tuesday evening after returning a reading of .054 per cent.

A 27-year-old male tourist was also intercepted and received drug diversion on Wednesday evening after the vehicle he was driving was intercepted on the New England Highway, Applethorpe and a quantity of cannabis and implement were found in the vehicle.

AT THE council meeting last week the “Emu Swamp Business Case” was received and noted.

Cost of the dam and infrastructure is now $121.5 million (including interest) for the recommended “Scenario 2”, with “customers” contributing 35 per cent, customers being irrigators (22 per cent) and SDRC (13 per cent, i.e. $15.8 million which equates to a one-off cost for urban use of $21,000 per megalitre). The ongoing operational and maintenance costs are not taken into account.

Many have been led to believe that the dam would be funded wholly by government money, e.g. the National Water Infrastructure Development Fund (NWIDF).

Approvals have not yet been given for the preferred scenario. The report states that “further work is needed to determine the project’s feasibility and NWIDF funding will be important in this regard”.

Council is in debt. An additional amount of up to $7 million of the “customers” money has already been spent previously on endless consultants’ reports and studies.

The consultant’s “next step” apparently has not been taken, i.e.: “On 14 January 2016, SDRC will apply to the Queensland Government for Australian Government (NWIDF) funding as further work is needed to determine the project’s feasibility”. Have the customers applied to the government for an extension of time?

Surely a full feasibility study is one of the first steps after such a proposal as Emu Swamp Dam is put forward and therefore should have been done years ago? Who is driving this?

I READ where three of our councillors did not want to return the $90,000 of unused money. It did not surprise me to see three councillors who wanted to keep the money. I guess these three would prefer to spend the money on stuff we do not need. These three seem to think that more money should be given to the council to waste as they have done in the past. They are the first ones to want to have their photos taken and published to let the ratepayers know they go to these functions so the ratepayer thinks they are doing

GRANTS are now available to help run Seniors Week events across the Southern Downs.

Seniors Minister Coralee O’Rourke said seniors enriched communities with their wide range of knowledge and experience, and Seniors Week was the perfect opportunity to show them our appreciation.

“The Palaszczuk government is committed to establishing an age-friendly Queensland, where people of all ages can take part in local activities and enjoy quality of life, which is exactly what Seniors Week is all about,” Ms O’Rourke said.

“These grants are a great way to help fund local events, so that Queensland organisations can show their appreciation for seniors, while encouraging them to take part in community activities.

“I look forward to a bigger and better Seniors Week this year, with hundreds of events expected to be held across the state.”

Starting on Saturday 13 August, Seniors Week 2016 will run through to Sunday 21 August - nine days of celebrations.

Running into orienteering ten take

Club publicity officer Liz Bourne said this discipline of orienteering combined running with precise navigation in a complex urban environment, with competitors having to work their way around the buildings and through the network of paths, gardens and sporting fields.

“A special colour orienteering map of the school has been produced by the club for the event and three courses are being offered, ranging from a technically hard one of 2.7km down to an easy one of 1.2km,” she said.

“Control points will be on features such as a building corner, track junction or hedge and will marked by an orange and white flag.”

Ms Bourne said that Warwick junior orienteer, Simeon Burrill, had set the courses for the event as he had gained a lot of experience in this type of orienteering in recent years at interstate and overseas events. He recently attended a four-day sprint event in Canberra plus a training camp as part of the National Junior Squad to hone his skills in sprint orienteering.

An electronic timing system will be used for the event, with competitors carrying an electronic chip attached to their finger while units at each control site

No special gear is required and compasses may be borrowed at the event.”

The event will start near the tennis court at the College on Oxenham Street, with starts between 4 and 5pm. The entry cost will be $5 and families are welcome to go around together.

I didn’t learn how to drive until I was 24! (My partner likes to joke that I’m still not properly able to drive!)

At the time Ireland was in the midst of a devastating recession and we honestly had no other option but to emigrate. It’s very difficult leaving your family and friends to move to the other side of the world but it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

My mum’s Christmas dinner!

Andy Warhol’s Factory has always interested me; his studio became a magnet for artists and socialites, and saw some of his best work produced there. I wrote my thesis on his work and that period of time continues to enthral me.

IT WILL be all the fun of the fair this Friday and Saturday for the 138th Allora Show.

This year’s program will be jam-packed with events and plenty to see on both days at the popular local show.

Friday will include ring events all day, as well as prime cattle judging and sale and pavilion judging and displays.

From 5pm to 8pm sideshow alley will have two for one rides, while at 7.30pm there will be plenty of rodeo action with Scott Keogh’s invitation bull ride, junior steer ride, junior bull and poddy rides as well as music and bar until late.

Saturday will see ring events all day again, with all animals and birds being judged.

Other major events on the day will be the state ute muster, fireworks, demolition derby, Denny’s Band and a bar until late.

President Shirley Cornhill thanked all the supporters for making the event possible. “Welcome to our annual show, the showcase of the district,� she said. “This show could not go ahead without the generosity of the people who give their time, sponsorship, trophies and donations. “During the year we had the sad loss of our past secretary and treasurer, Maureen Shearing. Maureen’s enormous con-

Fireys to light it up Casey’s tips

By TANIA PHILLIPS THINGS are due to heat up again in March as the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade host their fourth annual Backburners Ball.

Tickets will be strictly limited again this year and will be available from the Dalveen Post Office, Granite Belt Hospitality and Cleaning in Stanthorpe, Sam’s Fruit Shop, Cottonvale, or by calling Nathan Parkes on 0488 300 356.

The scene will be set with a number of fires located around the hall to keep people warm.

The event is the Dalveen Rural Brigade’s major fund-raiser of the year, according to second officer Nathan Parkes.

“We raise in the order of $4000 to $5000 for the night,” he said.

“So we are punching around $20,000 hopefully after this event.

“We have purchased a 12 by 6m demountable training room and fitted it out for training/incident control.

"The event was originally run later in the year but last year was brought forward to March due to the cold conditions in May. “Bringing it forward certainly helped last year - still shiver thinking about the second event ... brrrrr,” he laughed.

Local artists Roger Ilott and Penny Davies will perform as well as Brisbane act Sasta who are back after wowing the crowds last year.

Sasta have performed all over the country, and have headlined with

International artists. Band members include Rocky Towey (accordion), Michel Hughes (vocals/guitar/ bodhran/bouzouki) Kevin Higgins (uilleann pipes, whistles, flute, guitar), Fred Graham (fiddle) ... and a pick of several other wonderfully talented musicians.

Together they form a thumping Irish music sensation guaranteed to get you up dancing, and will provide a fitting end to a Saint Patrick's Day week.

Tickets can be pre-purchased up until just before the ball. Last year’s event saw a 300-strong crowd rock into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Keen revellers are encouraged to take advantage of the free camping on the oval.

All proceeds from the night will go to the Dalveen Rural Fire Brigade as they continue their efforts to build a group training facility and incident control centre.

With each entry ticket purchased you receive $10 worth of free tickets (to be collected at the gate on the night) in a GME TX6150TP 5 Watt IP67 Hand held Communications kit (retail value of $479 donated by Philcomm) to be drawn on the night.

By JOYCE MARSH, WOODENBONG CORRESPONDENT GREG Gulliver was named Woodenbong Citizen of the Year at the town’s annual Australia Day ceremony at Woodenbong Public Hall last week.

Greg, a long-time resident and strong volunteer has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years, holding positions including secretary, treasurer, deputy/senior captain, and currently captain of the Woodenbong Rural Fire Brigade. He is also involved with Woodenbong Tennis Club as vice and president and a member of Public Hall Trust for 10 years.

He was presented with his award by former Play School presenter Benita Collings, the Kyogle Shire’s

Australia Day ambassador, Benita Collings, Greg Gulliver Woodenbong Citizen of the Year and Kyogle mayor Danielle Mulholland.

Fame for cricket greats The

IT HAS been another funny week in sport.

Some of it not all humorous, although that can’t be said for the induction of cricket’s master of political incorrectness Jeff Thompson into Cricket’s Hall of Fame along with Queensland and Australian wicket keeper the late Wally Grout.

Thommo did not hold back reminding us all that he is still one of the most colourful blokes to have played the game and what cricket in the 70s was really like. The man himself is the first to admit he would be in trouble these days. Never mind Warnie, the Twittersphere (whatever that is) would go into melt down if it had to deal with Thommo.

Daughter of legendary wicket keeper Wally Grout was far more dignified as she accepted the honour on behalf of her late father. As an A Grade Umpire in Brisbane for many years Nelma Grout had plenty to do with Thommo during his playing days. There would have been some interesting back stage reminiscing between the pair according to well those in the know.

It pains me to mention it, but again, yes again we are on the cusp of a new rugby league season and we have players acting like fools.

The NRL and QRL spend untold dollars to educate these privileged brats on their responsibilities to the game their clubs, fans, families and themselves. Despite their best efforts, it seems that every year we have a rerun of the same behaviour. So Mitchell Pearce is off to rehab. Great is that supposed to satisfy the public?

Perhaps, he and the emerging Orgin players who now find themselves in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons should take a leaf out of Dave Warner’s book.

It was refreshing to hear a sportsman at the top of his game admit that had he not changed his ways, he would not have the career he does today. Warner attributes much of that to his wife, former iron woman Candice Falzon and fatherhood but at the end of the day it must be the individual's own decision to change - that is a place Mitchell Pearce must find for himself.

Meanwhile, on the tennis court - the champions of that game continue to lead the way in sportsmanship and good grace. More Djokovic, Murray, Federer, Kerber and Williams please.

I wonder if there is any chance we get through the Auckland Nines without another footballer disgracing the game?

- Casey BACK NINE NO PROBLEM FOR BOEKHOLT THERE was a familiar trend in Saturday’s Stableford event at the Stanthorpe Golf Club. A number of players throughout the day scored strongly on the front nine, but stumbled on the home run.

There were no such difficulties for eventual winner Darryl Boekholt who returned a solid 20 points on the opening nine and finished strongly with 24 points on the back nine to shut out all probable contenders with his score of 44 points.

Rod Werner also put together a good round 23 points on the front nine had him well placed early, was one of a number who faltered on the back nine coming home with 19 points and had to be content with the runners-up spot.

Trish Fittock took out the ladies event with a score of 37 points. Filling the runners- up spot was Hannah Reeves with a score of 35 points.

The event was sponsored by Len Leigh.

The Stanthorpe golfing fraternity was shocked by the news of the sudden death of popular member David Townsend following a recent car accident. He was a long standing member of the golf club and over many years was heavily involved in a variety of sports. David will be sorely missed by many and the members of the Stanthorpe golf club join with the broader sporting community in expressing their sympathy to the Townsend family.

CHANGING OF THE GUARD IT IS believed there will be a changing of the guard at Wimbledon this year. Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, is apparently set to take the reins as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, hosts of Wimbledon.

According to British newspapers the popular Duchess will assume the role from the upcoming European summer as the Queen steps down from the position after 64 years. The Duchess is an avid tennis fan, and is a regular in the royal box with Prince William and her family during the Wimbledon Championships. The Duchess accepted an honourary membership to the prestigious club in 2013.

CELEBRATIONS WOODENBONG STYLE IT IS well known in all cricketing circles that if you give my old mate Lew Cooper OAM a charitable cause to support and a cricket match to arrange, he is a happy man. Cooper still lives and breathes cricket and remains president of the Wanderers Queensland Club Inc. and chairman of The Lord’s Taverners’ (Queensland). One of the major aims of both clubs is to raise funds that help communities and kids in many towns, giving a hand up to the young, less privileged, disabled and disadvantaged children. In many cases, giving them a sporting chance and supporting cricket at the grassroots level.

On Australia Day, Woodenbong children were delighted to be offered a cricket coaching clinic which was arranged by Cooper and Adam Gilchrist’s father Stan Gilchrist (chairman of the Lord’s Taverners Northern NSW).

Cricketers Adrian Schooth, Jarad Seiffert and Gary Rossington joined local volunteers Ray Smith and Travis Musicka for the clinic, giving the children a glimpse of what they could achieve in their future and inspiring a future love of the game. Aspiring cricketers could blossom from the experience - stranger things have happened.

For several years, Woodenbong has hosted an Australia Day ‘City VS Country’ cricket.

This year there was the added input of the visiting coaches playing with the locals, and putting to trial the new cricket equipment purchased by Woodenbong Progress Association for this ‘major’ local ritual. Honours on the day went the way of “Country”.

Lew Cooper who you could say goes under

the mantra of “Never let a chance go by” arrived armed not only with a fabulous bunch of caring cricketers but also a bat signed by the “Brisbane Heat”, thanks to Geoff Cockerill, CEO of Queensland Cricket.

The ensuing fund-raising raffle was drawn at the Woodenbong Hotel during the Australia Day celebrations and resulted in $800 being raised for the Woodenbong Rural Fire Brigade and Woodenbong Public Hall Trust.

Cooper who is also patron of the Queensland Seniors Cricket for over 60s and 70s announced seven teams will this year be vying for The Cooper Finlay Cup to be held in Coffs Harbour on 22 and 23 March.

WALLANGARRA WIN TO WILLIAMS KEVIN Williams carded a nett 65 to win the stroke event in Wallangarra last Saturday. Williams finished two shots clear of runner-up Peter Butler with Steven Hampstead one shot back in third place.

Tony Murphy picked up the pin shot at the third while the ninth and the second to Steven Hampstead. Gary Sutcliffe hit one dead on 15 but somehow missed the putt. He missed the putt somehow. Hampstead also won the jackpot the fourth hole. As it is the first weekend of the new month, play this week will be for the February Monthly Medal. A reminder to all members of the Wallangarra club that the AGM will be held following the game on 27 February.

MALLET MEMBERS ON THE GREEN ALL members of the Stanthorpe Croquet Club are reminded that the annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday 10 February at 11.30am at the club.

While members were digesting the news that the AGM is just around the corner, those involved in Association Croquet took to the green with Grace Howard and Effie Russell taking on Pat Schnoor and Val Shepherd in a game that resulted in a 16-all draw. Grace had a break of three in the game while Russell had two breaks of two.

Carol Verwey and Joy Newman teamed up to play Heather Widderick and Jenny Tunbridge.

Their score of 17 was not good enough to beat their opponents' 22 points. Jenny played well and had one break of four in her game.

Andrea Denkewitz played a singles game against Margaret Dickenson, notching up a 19-15 win with breaks of three and two in her game.

All players still looked a little rusty after the holiday break and some are carrying injuries.

There was almost a full contingent of players on deck for Hoop Runners Golf Croquet.

Two groups of four played doubles, swapping teams in the second game.

In a very close game, Val Fancourt and Teresa Pyne (13) won their match against Shirley Evans and Elaine Brown (12). Three players each scored six hoops. Pyne top scored with seven hoops to break the deadlock.

The second grouping saw another tough game.

In the end, it was a 13-12 win to Bill Golding and Liz Ellway who played Judy Lock and Shirley Page. Judy is showing a great liking for the game and top scored with 10 hoops in this match.

Following the break, Ellway and Lock took on Val Fancourt and Elaine Brown but found the competition tough and were defeated 12-5. Evans and Golding also proved a formidable pairing in their game against Teresa Pyne and Shirley Page winning the encounter 9-5.

WIN FOR WALSH ANOTHER big field turned out for the ever popular Sporters event in Stanthorpe last Sunday.

John Walsh took the winning honours relegating Clarky to the “Bridesmaid’s spot.”

The run-downs went to Gary Kirby and Aaron Simmers. Hannah Reeves had the Best Gross and also collected the Pro Pin. Terry Byrnes held the pin shot on the third.

Local Sport 4:40 PM Semi-final: Winner QF1 vs QF2 5:05 PM Seem final: Winner QF3 vs QF4 4:40 PM Grand final GOOD START TO 2016 LOCAL trainer Mick Hemmings got 2016 off to a great start for local connections of Trust No One on Saturday at Allman Park when the fouryear-old won the opening event of the four-race programme.

It was only the gelding’s fifth race start, and he revelled in the conditions. The Allman Park track was rated a heavy 10 at the start of the meeting. Jockey Taylor Williams had no hesitation in taking the horse to the front and despite his big weight, he led all the way to win by just under half a length from Shez Our Destiny and Heza Chumley a further 2.8 lengths away in third place.

The gelding was transferred to Hemmings five months ago and the trainer is confident the gelding will comfortably get 1200metres and will be looking for a suitable race over the distance at future Warwick meetings.

The track was upgraded to heavy eight prior to the running of the second event the Class B XXXX Gold Handicap over the 1100 metre journey.

Melody O’Brien guided the Stephen Neylon galloper Brazen Jake to a comfortable two-length win over To Be King and favourite Jetty Betty.

Apprentice jockey Hannah Phillips was successful on the Ben Park trained Chosen Court in the Class 2 Hahn 3.5 Hcp (C2) over 1100m.

The six-year-old Choisir mare started at the good odds of $7.00 after finishing fourth at her last start in Goondiwindi.

Rain forced the abandonment of the fourth and final event. The Warwick Turf club holds their next meeting on 10 February - A TAB Meeting.

WHEATVALE TOO GOOD AGAINST ROOS WHEATVALE set the Inglewood Roos a hefty target of 250 in their game last weekend on the back of a fine innings from Carter Billborough.

Billborough, one of the emerging talents of Warwick cricket, scored his first century in the game before being dismissed for 101.

His impressive innings included nine fours and a six. After coming to the wicket with the score at 1/20 Billborough built good partnerships with Will Dearden and Paul Cantwell.

Despite a solid start to their innings, Inglewood found the Wheatvale bowling attack tough and were dismissed for 142. Best of the bowling brigade was Jack Breen who finished with three wickets for 24 runs. Jono Colls and Craig

The conditions were quite challenging with variable wind and mirage, which made it hard to hit the fly. All had an enjoyable day, and it was great to see some new shooters coming to the club and having a good time. He, as clean as a whistle, picked up the jack and took it back to his team’s bowls to win the maximum total of nine points and on the other occasion did the same trick to win six points, and playing with a new set of bowls.

This Thursday the mixed open triples competition will be held.

Because of the forecast of rain, Red Rooster last Thursday was called off, so we all hope that the open triples will go ahead as usual. Skips, have your team entered. The phone, 4661 9050, will be manned from 11am with play at 12.30pm.

The idea of starting barefoot bowls was discussed. All present agreed that this will start Friday 12 February. Names in by 5.30pm, play 6pm. Visitors will be especially welcome to come to Warwick East for a game of bowls under lights. Members, be at the club by 5pm to set up and prepare for the game. Visitors are always welcome at Warwick East.

Remember the Club’s AGM will be held Sunday 21 February commencing at 9.30am. All positions will be declared vacant, so consider what you can do to keep the club running smoothly.

PREMIER DARTS: There was no competition darts last Tuesday due to Australia Day. However, Singles Comp resumed on 2 February.

Last Saturday 30 January, there was an open day and members played pot luck doubles. Thanks to all the players who showed up.

Richard Bakon took special prizes of highest score (180) and had mystery peg of 57 while Rob took out the prize for highest peg of 87.

A few more players could be used to fill up more teams for the Thursday Comp, which will start in a few weeks. Anybody is welcome.

Also there is social darts each Saturday from 11.30am. All are welcome.

Barbecue lunch is available for a small fee.

PLAY ABOANDONED RAIN intervened in two of the Warwick fixture games last weekend. In the game between Railway Hotel Rascals and Warwick Hotel Colts, rain forced the stoppage of play but not before Rascal’s Jake Christensen produced an outstanding spell of spin bowling which saw him take career best figures of 5/46 from eight overs.

Colts were desperate for a win to bolster their finals chances and looked to have every chance when they posted 241 from their 40 overs.

Unfortunately, only two balls were bowled before the heavens opened and play was forced to be abandoned.

The weather gods also had a big say in the game between Allora and Maryvale Condamine at Allora. Allora were set a target of 200 after some good batting performances from openers Will Gordon (51) and Jordon Siebenhausen (49).

After nine overs Allora were well behind the required run rate.

The NRL has confirmed a ‘free play’ advantage rule will be in play.

The rule allows an extended advantage for a team after their opposition makes a mistake, which it’s hoped will encourage teams to take on high-risk plays in an attempt to score a try in the advantage period.
