OCEAN Grove’s new pavilion hosts its first Carols in the Park next week with some exciting additions to the traditionally popular event. Families with pre-school aged children will be able to enjoy more of the Carols in the Park with the addition of a new Christmas Kids Zone on Sunday 13 December, thanks to a new sponsor in Woodlands Childcare Centre, a long-standing provider of childcare in both Ocean Grove and Point Lonsdale. Woodlands and Lonsdale House will be providing some fun festive creative activities, Christmas sensory table and opportunity for children to create a Christmas hat to wear while listening to the Carols. While staff will be available to assist families with their projects, children must be accompanied by an adult in the Kids Zone. Other firsts for 2015 include the Carols being starting earlier at 7pm after feedback from many mums and dads. Gates will open this year at 5.30pm to allow for families to access the Kids Zone and grab a snag from the Sausage Sizzle or a delicious pancake, which were a huge hit last year. Get ready to see all four of our primary schools - Ocean Grove, Surfside, Our Lady Star of the Sea and Wallington Primary School performing on stage. There’ll be all the Carols you love, sung by leading local artists and special performances that will surprise and delight with the region’s popular radio personality Mike Hyland back again as master of ceremonies. There’s still time to participate in the choir. Rehearsals will be held on Sunday 29 November and Sunday 6 December, and interested people can register their interest with the artistic director Jon Mamonski on 0419 507 513. Thanks to the support of the Ocean Grove Connected Communities, safe LED candles will again be available

for purchase at each of the entry gates on the night. This year, gate proceeds will go towards buying a defibrillator for the new Ocean Grove Pavilion - an important contribution that will benefit all event-goers into the future. Locals are also invited to bring an unwrapped gift to put under a giant Christmas tree on the night, which will be distributed to local needy children

by Cottage by the Sea. The much-loved Carols in the Park continues to be the largest community gathering of the year, with more than 3000 people attending last year’s event. There is still an opportunity for local businesses to join up as sponsors for the event, and they are welcome to contact sponsorship co-ordinator Julia Keady on 0412 628 036.
