Mayor Peter Blundell said he also knew nothing about the proposal until the media reported on it and that it was still in its early stages.

BY NOW most will know that a tiny town located just outside the Southern Downs, has been shortlisted as a potential home for nuclear waste.

Oman Ama, located 15 minutes east of Inglewood and close to an hour west of Warwick, was listed by the Federal Government as one of six locations around Australia nominated to store low to mid-level nuclear waste. The location of the proposed 100-hectare storage facility is expected to be announced next year following community consultation.

The sites have been volunteered by landholders who could potentially earn as much as four times the current value of their land. The government is also offering $10 million

to the local community near the site that is chosen for infrastructure and development.

Oman Ama is in the Goondiwindi Regional Council district and the announcement has come as a shock to local residents and councils including Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor Graeme Scheu.

“I was woken this morning (Friday 13 November) at 5.30am by media asking my thoughts on the proposal,” he said.

“It was embarrassing to reply that you will have to wait until I get the papers to let you know.”

Mayor Scheu went on and said that nobody should jump to conclusions yet.

Carols hit right tune Casey’s tips

By DANE LILLINGSTONE ORGANISERS of Warwick’s Christmas Carols in the Park have moved to assure the community that the essence of the show will remain the same despite reports of changing performers.

At a meeting held on Monday, Southern Downs Regional Council’s Community Services manager Sheila Stebbings said there would be a shift this year to try and accom-

modate everyone.

“It will be different this year,” she said.

“The changes were about finding that balance between what people want. This year there will be something in it for everyone.”

Although artists have not yet been announced and timing issues meant schools could not be involved, the carols plan to have a mixture of traditional carols with solo artists and groups. There will of

course be Santa and his elves along with food stalls and entertainment for the whole family.

There will also be a special guest artist that is planned to be announced on 1 December.

The event has been running for over 25 years, initially starting of as an initiative of Youth for Christ as a way to help young people.

Mayor Peter Blundell said he would be getting up to belt out a few tunes.

“The community loves Christmas carols,” he said.

“The feedback we received from the community is that they want to sing the carols.

“People want to be a part of the build up to Christmas and celebrate that goodwill and humanity. It’s what Christmas is all about.”

Leslie Park will again host the carols on Sunday 20 December, with festivities kicking off from 5.30pm.

RURAL youths can rejoice with the decision to deregulate certain measures in determining the eligibility for Youth Allowance.

Youth Allowance will soon be made more accessibly for rural youths with certain testing arrangements to be scrapped from 1 January next year.

The allowance provides financial help for people aged 16 to 24 years who are studying full-time, undertaking a full-time Australian Apprenticeship, training, looking for work or sick.

However the allowance is dependent on meeting certain criteria - including parent incomes.

Federal Maranoa MP Bruce Scott has had a long involvement with the allowance and said it would finally put students from the bush in line with their city counterparts.

“Means testing arrangements for Youth Allowance will be axed from 1 January next year so family farm assets will no longer be counted towards the means test,” he said.

“This is great news for rural students as these changes will make youth payments fairer and simpler.

“Removing the assets test will allow thousands more students to qualify for an average annual youth payment of more than $7000 a year.”

Mr Scott has fought for the changes as he believed the eligibility for Youth Allowance had been unfairly weighted against regional students.

“Young people from the rural or regional areas are already disadvantaged by the tyranny of distance. They must move from home, away from their family and set themselves up in a new city; buy furniture, textbooks and start paying rent,” he said.

“These changes will positively affect many families in my electorate who are running cashpoor and asset-rich enterprises, as a result of the ongoing drought.

“Thousands more students will benefit from the means test removal and they will either receive Youth Allowance for the first time or - if they’re already receiving it - receive $2000 more each year.

“From July 2016, the parental income test will also include all children under 16 in the family.

“I’m a fierce advocate of better tertiary participation rates for rural and regional students and encourage them to return their skills to the bush.”

QUEENSLAND farmer and Southern Downs man Brent Finlay has been re-elected as the National Farmer’s Federation (NFF) president.

Mr Finlay was elected unopposed for a third term at the NFF Members’ Council meeting and AGM in Canberra yesterday.

At the meeting he said that the Australian agriculture industry was reaching record highs.

“We’re forecast this year to reach a record $57.1 billion in farm gate earnings, and we have every expectation that agriculture may be Australia’s next $100 billion industry.

Council staff cuts management, combined with minor organisational structural adjustments, there has been a reduction in the number of staff employed with the council.

1100kms pedalling for cash A GROUP of cyclists passed through Warwick on Tuesday as part of an 1100 kilometre bike ride for charity.

Warwick acted as the eighth day of the journey, having started 900 kilometres south in Manly.

The Future2 Wheel Classic is a nine-day 1100km+ journey from Sydney to Brisbane to raise funds for socially and financially disadvantaged young Australians.

Since 2010 the initiative has raised $460,000 towards Future2’s grant program, which supports community not-forprofits throughout Australia.

Future2 is the foundation of the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA). The 12 cyclists, largely made up of those in the financial planning industry, have already managed to raise $54,000 this year.

First time rider and financial advisor Paul Hocking said it was a chance to give back.

“It’s an opportunity for us to give back and it’s a challenge in

“The best day was when we got to meet some of the recipients of the grants. We could see the positive effects these grants were having. I think it’s important for people to know more about this.”

“What we found is that there are a lot of people across Australia that have big hearts, great ideas, a lot of energy but not enough money. That’s what Future2 is about. It’s about raising money across Australia in connection with the financial services sector and then the Financial Planning Association members put forward the charities or the community projects that are very local.”

Mr Bobbin said that riding days could stretch anywhere between six and nine hours but it was the people that got him through.

“It’s been gruelling on some days. Day number three was the hardest but at the end of the day you have your colleagues and friends to share the war stories over the day with and you get ready for the following day.”

Mr Bobbin said people who wanted to get involved could talk to their financial planner about Future2.

Nuclear shock hits home in community From front page “We are talking about a storage facility for low level active nuclear material,” he said.

“It is material routinely stored in facilities. It's material that’s produced for imaging, Xrays and cancer treatments.”

Although community backlash has been strong, Australia currently has close to two Olympic-sized swimming pools of low-level nuclear waste at 100 sites around the country. It is also thought that one in two Australians will require potentially lifesaving nuclear medicines in their lifetime.

Mr Springborg said that the waste needed to be stored somewhere as it was currently stored at hospitals and sheds with special permits on a temporary basis.

“I want to make sure that people get the right information and know what we’re dealing with because we’re dealing with stuff here that’s routinely manufactured for people being treated with things like cancer,” he said.

“If we’re going to keep producing these things, to cure illnesses, then we are going to have to deal with the material

that’s being produced.”

The other five proposed sites include three from South Australia, one in the Northern Territory and one in New South Wales.

By the time this goes to print, a special Goondiwindi council public consultation meeting will have been held with Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Peter Blundell, officials from the Federal Government’s resources office, officials from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and members of the local community expected to attend.

Bluebird break-in Bluebird Kitchen and Bar on Palmerin Street in Warwick was broken into on Monday night.

The offender smashed a window on the front door of the establishment about 8.30pm and stole a small quantity of food and drink. CCTV on Palmerin Street identified the offender and a witness also helped police in locating him a few hundred metres from the kitchen.

The 37-year-old male from Warwick was arrested and charged with entering a premises and stealing, and was expected to face Warwick Magistrates' Court this week.

A 19-YEAR-OLD male had a frightening encounter last Tuesday after encountering two men in a public toilet in Warwick’s Australiana Park.

Two offenders approached the teenager around 4pm as he used the public toilets and propositioned him for sexual activities.

The teenager then notified police who found the two men still in the vicinity of the park.

The 52-year-old and 59-year-old males were both from Toowoomba. They will both face Warwick Magistrates' Court on 2 December.

Officer-in-charge Jamie Deacon said it was a rare offence in Warwick.

“It’s not a high prevalence offence,” he said.

“It is concerning that it’s in daylight and in the park.”

Festival rocks out THE biggest music festival to hit the Southern Downs has just gotten even bigger.

Just over 2000 people passed through the gates at Ballandean Estate Wines for Stanthorpe Rocks over the weekend despite the threat of a thunderstorm.

Eventually a thunderstorm did hit on Saturday but promoter Ian WadeParker said they were more than prepared with their 3200 square metre super tent.

“The super tent did its job. We all survived,” he said.

“It hit really hard, just as Ross Wilson was about to come on stage.”

The thunderstorm couldn’t dampen the moods of the thousands in attendance as Australian heavyweights Daryl Braithwaite and Jon Stevens kept the crowd entertained.

The third annual event saw performances over two days with the action wrapping up on Sunday.

Kym Wockner with Ben and Jo Marcus from Stanthorpe caught up at Stanthorpe Rocks.

Mr Wade-Parker said they were always looking to make the event even better.

Endeavour ride for a cause THE Warwick branch of the Ulysses Club has joined forces with the Endeavour Foundation for their annual motorbike ride.

On Sunday members of the club and Endeavour had their Annual Endeavour Ride. The ride started from Warwick McDonalds and finished at Leslie Dam Recreation Park for drinks, games and lunch.

There were 28 Endeavour clients at the ride along with Warwick members of the Ulysses Club and surrounding members from branches in Lockyer and Redlands.

Warwick branch secretary Elaine Wenham said it was an enjoyable day for everyone.

“We did it as annual thing for the Endeavour clients. They thoroughly enjoy it and they look forward to it,” she said.

“To see their smiles on their faces - it’s a real feel good day all round.”

This year marked the eighth annual event with 24 bikes, two cars, four trikes and a sidecar taking part in the journey that ventured out the back of Allora Road, to Wheatvale and Sandy Creek, before eventually settling at Leslie Dam. The Ulysses Club is a social offering for motorcyclists over 40 and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia.

In brief Tenterfield Dam safety upgrade THE Tenterfield Creek Dam will receive a safety upgrade after approval from the government.

Lismore MP Thomas George said: “The NSW Government will provide 50 per cent of the tender price for strengthening upgrade works of the Tenterfield Creek Dam which was constructed in 1931”.

Mr George said the works would improve the structural integrity and safety of the dam as well as help protect both people and property located downstream from the dam.

The NSW Government, through the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program, plans to provide $121 million to deliver over 90 new water supply and sewerage projects.

Gladfield development facing appeal THE Southern Downs Regional Council may have just settled one development matter but now a 17-lot residential development on Gladfield Back Road will face the Planning and Environment Court.

The appeal was lodged by the developer after disagreeing with some of the restrictions placed by council upon the development’s approval earlier this year.

Council resolved that they would allocate $50,000 in legal fees if needed to defend their decision.

A LOCAL Stanthorpe jeweller has made the trek all the way to Belgium in the name of her business.

Ivy Graham recently returned from a trip to Antwerp in Belgium, one of the diamond capitals of the world.

Ivy even visited the bourse house at the Antwerp Diamond Club, a place that is usually restricted to diamond club members.

“It was an amazing trip.

We saw firsthand the cutting of diamonds by the industry’s leading tradespeople,” she said.

Among her finds that can now be found at Goldstone Jewellers include a blue diamond and a collection of white diamonds.

Off the radar WHEN the draw of the Australian Football League came out a week or so ago, they made it, the big wheeler dealers from Melbourne, abundantly clear that the bush and rural areas of Queensland were off their radar.

They allocated only three

Safety first this summer

Preparing kids for Schoolies Week

By TANIA PHILLIPS THE RACQ has urged parents of Year 12 students to have vital safety conversations with their children ahead of Schoolies celebrations this weekend.

The advice comes as the State’s peak motoring body revealed findings which showed teenagers equipped with realistic strategies for avoiding the Fatal Five causes of death on the road were more likely to make smart decisions.

RACQ Community and Education Manager David Contarini said a Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety Queensland (CARRS-Q) study of RACQ’s powerful Docudrama program for senior students highlighted the importance of giving teens skills to speak

up for themselves.

“What we know, is young adults who are given practical tools they can use in real-life scenarios will be subsequently empowered to speak up in a potentially dangerous situation,” Mr Contarini said.

“For example, diversionary tactics which can be as simple as suggesting a fast food stop when travelling in a vehicle where they’ve begun to feel unsafe, are an easy way for a teen to remove themselves from the environment.

“Our education program is dedicated to making Queensland high school students aware of the consequences their actions could have, and about making the smart choice in any situation they might face.

“With end of year celebrations and Schoolies just around the corner we’re asking parents to make sure they’ve spoken with their kids about a strategy for getting home safely.”

Mr Contarini said having a ‘no-questions-asked’ phone call option to ring mum or dad at any time, day or night without question was a back-up RACQ encouraged.

“We know that any parent would rather take a phone call in the middle of the night than receive a knock on the door from emergency services,” he said.

The free RACQ Docudrama program, funded by the Queensland Government through the Department of Transport and Main Roads, is delivered to more than 50 schools across Queensland each year.

RACQ CareFlight Rescue Operations general manager Brian Guthrie said the lifesaving service would be ready to respond to emergencies 24/7 this storm season.

“Helicopter winch training prepares CareFlight crews for the different air-medical evacuations required during floods and other extreme weather events,” Mr Guthrie said.

“This may involve winching people from roof tops, rescuing people trapped in isolated locations, or delivering our doctors and paramedics to residents in storm affected areas.

“We want to get the message out there to make your decision to evacuate early enough to avoid being trapped by severe weather or dangerous flood waters.”

Last financial year, RACQ CareFlight Rescue crews performed 22 urgent winch rescues to help injured and sick people across Queensland.

SOUTHERN Downs residents have been warned not to drive through floodwaters this summer storm season.

RACQ executive manager Community and Education David Contarini said motorists must remember to put safety first, heed advice and prepare for whatever wild weather Mother Nature might have in store.

“This year, we’re imploring people to protect themselves and their vehicles when a weather event hits.

Quite simply if it’s flooded - just forget it,” Mr Contarini said.

“It’s incredibly frustrating for emergency service workers and our traffic response units to see motorists entering floodwaters risking not only their lives, but those of their rescuers as well.”

Mr Contarini said the top five things people needed to remember during a storm were: Park your vehicle under cover if possible - never park under trees Don’t speed up to beat a storm.

Christmas expenses THE holiday season is always an expensive time of year, and the pressure on the family budget can almost get too much.

The best Christmas is a Christmas that people can afford.

Those who want to put their Christmas finances on track should apply a well-planned budget and a healthy dose of cost-cutting measures.

Firstly, determine what can be afforded - look over financ-

es, and determine how much money there is for holiday-related purchases. Set this figure as the overall holiday spending limit.

Then set a spending limit for each area of holiday spending and create a holiday spending worksheet. Run through the list of holiday expenses gifts, decorations, holiday foods, in the first column, and set a budget for each area of spending.

Keep a running total of pur-

chases in the Actual Spending column of the worksheet. Then, use the Amount Over or Under field to track how closely the budget is being adhered to.

And finally tweak the budget to cover any instances of overspending.

Don’t panic if there is overspend in one of the categories, just scale the spending back in another category to make up for it.

THE second test in the Trans-Tasman series may have finished in a draw, but it was a game that had plenty of action from day one.

Dave Warner silenced any critics that may still have been lurking with a record-breaking innings. Usman Khawaja showed the potential we all knew was there with an outstanding knock in the first innings and then sent a shiver through the Aussie camp when he injured his hammy fielding.

We will not see him again until Boxing Day. With a score of 559 on the board when Smith declared, many thought this was over for the Kiwis but this was a game with plenty of twists in the tail.

On a wicket that resembled no other at the WACA, the Kiwi batsmen were also having a party, and it was no fun for bowlers as the Kiwis edged past the Aussie total to their own record of 624. Ross Taylor wrote his name in the Kiwi and Australian record books with an amazing innings, falling 10 runs shy of a triple century.

Steve Smith and Adam Vogers set the platform for a draw when they both scored centuries in the second innings. The game was turned on its head on day five with the announcement that Mitchell Johnson had called stumps on an illustrious career.

The champion paceman's feeling he could no longer contribute consistently to his team.

A sad day for international cricket, but there were plenty of batsmen around the world breathing a little easier following the announcement.

Johnson has been a real conundrum throughout his career - a fiendish looking bowler with plenty of aggression on the field, but a rather private and shy character off the paddock.

The former NQ lad whose dream was just to “bowl fast” leaves the game having made an indelible mark on the record books and more than a few bruises on opposition batsmen.

This truly is a time of transition for Australian cricket, but if you look at the past couple of weeks it seems cricket, like Mitch Johnson is now in a good place.

It is now time for Cricket to sit back and wait for the next chapter of cricket history to unfold when Test cricket goes “day night” in Adelaide and the somewhat controversial if unknown “pink ball” is introduced.

We are about to witness another significant change to the world of cricket. Can’t wait.

BOWLERS CONTINUE GOOD AWAY RECORD SUMMIT Bowlers Rob Capelli, John Shannon, Rodney Newlands, Tyler Sweeney and Michael Sweeney continued the excellent away record of members of the club when they recorded a clean sweep last weekend at the Warwick East Bowls Club annual Open Fours Carnival.

The team took out the title, recording five wins from five games. All four played outstanding bowls but spies tell us Tyler Sweeney had a blinder.

Back at home base, Social Bowls were played on Saturday. Phil Davis and Adrian Jackson had

a comfortable 36 - 15 win over Atilio Zamprogno and Keith Mungall. In a closer game Brian Brown and Eddie Zanatta had a 23 -19 win over Artie While and Alex Mattiazzi.

Members and friends are asked to keep the Club Christmas party in their diary - Friday December 4 - Bowls from 3pm followed by meals at 6.30. A reminder also that the SDMDBA Tow Bowls Triples carnival (Goondiwindi / Tannymorel) is on this weekend.

WILLIAMS AND PURCELL IN FORM SCOTT Williams and Jamie Purcell both played good rounds in the 4BBB competition at Wallan-

garra last weekend. Teams were drawn after the game and the pair grabbed a win in the event.

Steven Hampstead and Damien Moore finished a close second. Kevin Williams had the pin shot at the third and Steven Hampstead the ninth hole. Hampstead also picked up the Jackpot and the Birdies Best. Peter Butler took out the approach shot.

This weekend players will tee up for the Bob Ditton Memorial Single Stableford.

HENDRY AND HENDRY SECURE TROPHY RACHEL Hendry and playing partner husband Mark won the Pierce Trophy last weekend at the Stanthorpe Golf Club. The pair recorded a round of 49 points in the mixed 4BBB stableford. Rachael had an outstanding round of 48 points with Mark adding the extras being first to putt out.

A countback was required before Linda Kelly and Aaron Simmers were awarded the runner-up prize ahead of Nikki Rossow and Matt Waterworth - both teams finished with 46.

In the unmixed pairs, Len Leigh and Ian Pickering held out Ian Harvey and Len Leigh on a countback.

Sponsor Bob Peirce travelled from Toowoomba to play in the event.

Unfortunately, Saturday afternoon’s storm prevented a number of players from finishing the round.

Pin shots went to Viv Thouard at 3/12 and Dave Williams at 17. Pro-pins were claimed by Dylan Barraclough (1/10), Jason Bacon (5/14) and Bill Pyne (9/18). Hannah Reeves held the ladies pin at 3/12 as well as the birdies nest at 11 and Linda Kelly had nearest approach at 17.

In the run down, players with scores of or better each received a ball.

In other news, the club Christmas party has been scheduled for Saturday 28 November with a club sponsored barbecue after play. All members and family are welcome but numbers would be appreciated. If you are planning to attend, add your name and numbers to the sheet at the bar.

The final scores for Golfer of the Year will be announced during the evening. The men’s award is sponsored by the Apple and Grape Motel and the ladies section is sponsored by Out and About Fashions.

This Saturday, Eric McLellan who has settled back into life in Stanthorpe following his overseas trip is sponsoring a single stableford. Tee off is from 11.30 am and the time sheet is on the board.

WALKING FOR A PURPOSE ON Sunday 29 November, members of the Stanthorpe service clubs and members of the public are invited to join members of the Stanthorpe Zonta Club in a walk along Quart Pot Creek to support the “Zonta Say No” to Domestic Violence campaign. Local Sport EXCITING TIMES FOR GATEBALLERS IT HAS been a busy time for Stanthorpe Mallet players as they finalise preparations to host their first Gateball tournament this Saturday (November 21) at the Stanthorpe Croquet Club. Teams from Redcliffe and the Gold Coast will compete against local teams.

The event has the support of the Australian Gateball Union which has provided representatives to assist with training local players in preparation for the tournament. Their guidance has also been invaluable in the lead-up to hosting the event.

Gateball Teams consist of three players for triples games. Gateball is a very tactical game that can be played all age groups. In fact one member of the visiting Redcliffe team is only 13 years old.

Club representative Margaret Dickenson said she hoped members of the public would accept the open invitation to come and watch the games on Saturday. It will provide a great opportunity for people to get a better understanding of this tactical game. The aim is to successfully negotiate the three gates which prevent the opposition from scoring.

Play will commence at 8.30am, and is expected to run through until around 3.45pm with some games lasting only 30 minutes.

Head on up to the croquet greens at the Stanthorpe NUMBERS UP PLAYER numbers were up at Association Croquet last week and singles and doubles games were scheduled.

Pat Schnoor and Joy Newman went head to head in the singles game and in an entertaining game won 26-17. She had breaks of four and three while her opponent also scored a break of four during the game.

In an exciting game, Jenny Tunbridge and Carol Verwey had a narrow 18-17 win over Heather Widderick and Grace Howard. Despite being on the losing team Grace Howard had a break of four while her opponent Carol Verwey had a break of three.

Val Richardson and Effie Russell had few answers against the strong pairing of Andrea Denkewitz and Val Shepherd. The final score 26-11.

In this game, Denkewitz scored two breaks of three.

HOOP RUNNERS BUSY IT WAS a busy day on the greens for Hoop Runners. The first group to hit off last week played a short game of triples. The game was won 7-4

by Judy Lock, Dianne Wren and Elaine Brown defeating Shirley Page and Liz Ellway. In this game, Elaine Brown narrowly top scored with four hoops.

A doubles game followed, and it was another win for Bill Golding and Val Fancourt who proved too strong (13-8) for their opposition Te-

try - club handguns are available - the cost only $10 plus ammo or bring your own .22.

SUNDAY SUCCESS THE Allman park track may have been rated a heavy nine, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of owners, trainers and jockeys for the annual Allora Cup event held last Sunday.

The major drawcard on the program, the $20,000 Railway Hotel Benchmark 75 Allora Cup was won by the Clifton owned and bred Real Favulous. The five-year-old gelding has earned a start in the final of the Racing Queensland Summer Provincial Series a $100,000 race at Doomben on 5 December.

Owners Julia and Adrian Simmons and son Shane are hoping Real Favulous who won this year’s Weetwood Handicap in Toowoomba are confident the galloper can improve on his third placing in last year’s event.

Real Favulous was ridden by apprentice Tiffani Brooker and started short priced favourite in Sunday’s race. He carried top weight in the event, but with the benefit of Brookers claim kicked away in the straight to win by six and half lengths.

The win takes his earnings to almost $150,000.

The meeting opened with the running of the QTIS Rose City Carvery Maiden for Three Year Olds. Despite racing ungenerously throughout and figuring in the stewards report the Warwick trained Close Enough edged out another Warwick galloper Nothing Or Success in a bobbing finish.

The second race the Ross McIntosh Maiden (800m) was won by the Toowoomba trained Wild

Romance ridden by Ron Goltz. Starting at $4 the Jim Hanna trained mare won by a long neck from Beaudesert visitor Cocoa Pops and Shez Our Destiny. It was a game win by the four-yearold who was returning from a spell and covered plenty of ground in running.

The third event Justin Briggs Commemorative Class 3 Plate 1100m was won by favourite Starwood ridden by Brooke Stower for local connections the Collins family. It was a game win by the Warwick trained galloper who made it two wins at this distance on the track from two starts despite covering plenty of ground in the run.

Race four was a leg of the Queensland Racing Cannonball Series Bench Mark 65 Handicap.

Winner of the Ray Bunch Machinery RQ Cannonball Series was Oakey galloper Heavenly Glass ridden by Brooke Stower. The Tycoon Ruler - Heavenly Crown mare who started at the good odds of $8 won by a long neck beating Alpine Dragon and Book Shaker.

In the fifth race on the seven event card, the AEW Horse Walkers Maiden Plate / 1350mm Deputy Peck ridden by Nathan Evans cruised to almost a three-length win over Casperccino and Diamond Racer for his Toowoomba connections.

The meeting wrapped up with the running of the 1500m Colleen Burgess Memorial Benchmark 65 Handicap. It was first up win on the Allman park track for the Caroline Allardyce trained Jo’s Luck.

The Sunday TAB meeting was given a big thumbs up by everyone concerned.

RAIN AFFECTS LOCAL CRICKET FIXTURES IN LOCAL cricket fixtures there was only one game played in the Stanthorpe competition. Wanderers had a comfortable win over Tenterfield in their game played at Shirley Park in Tenterfield.

Wanderers’ bowlers dismissed the home side for 40 runs in only the 13th over. Andrew Einam and Tim Harslett brought about the downfall, each claiming three wickets. Wanderers had little effort in reaching the required total for a big win.

Full cricket fixtures resume this weekend, and organisers will be hoping for some reprieve from the storm conditions.

In Warwick, fixtures Sovereign Animals were dismissed by Allora for 121 runs in their game in Allora. The home side went on to notch up a nine-wicket win.

Youngster Matthew Kiernan took 4/14 from seven overs for Allora. It was a turning point in the game as batsmen Tim Drennert (44) and Damien Canning (30) had set a good platform for Animals.

Allora lost only one wicket on their way to the target. Mitch McLennan top scored with an unbeaten 59.

Rain also affected the Warwick Fixtures set down for last Saturday and they have been rescheduled until 16 January.

In the second session, the doubles combination of Shirley Page and Shirley Evans proved too good for Val Fancourt and Teresa Pyne. In a close game, the Shirleys took a 13-11 win. Shirley Evans top scored with seven hoops.

In the triples grouping, Bill Golding was once again on target, scoring a total of eight hoops as he and Judy Lock defeated Diane Wren, Liz Ellway and Elaine Brown 10-8.

WAITING FOR THE POWDER TO DRY THINGS have been a little damp out Inglewood way, and our trusty source from the Inglewood Sporting Shooters Assoc has been waiting for his powder to dry and results have been a little slow coming down the line.

The Three Position Rimfire event on 8 November was a really Dudgeon affair. Stephanie Dudgeon defeated Michaela and making it a proper family affair Ray was placed third.

In the Benchrest competition, it was Dudgeons again - this time Ray took the major prize ahead of Will Paterson in second spot and Michael Dudgeon filled the other minor placing.

Doug Redmond took out the Single Action event ahead of Tom Donald and Iain Brown.

Last Sunday in the Muzzle Loading competition, the Dudgeons were back in action with Ray again in the winner’s circle defeating Stephanie.

Peter Jones took out the Action Pistol section, defeating Lachlan Sharpe and Iain Bowen.

Saturday and Sunday will be a pistol packing weekend with all the action commencing at 12.30 Saturday and again at 10am on Sunday. A variety of competition have been planned in different disciplines. Visitors are most welcome to come and
