Speedie victory WODONGA Council has welcomed Anna Speedie as the city’s new mayor following a vote on Monday night. Cr Speedie has replaced Cr Rodney Wangman, who announced in October he would not be seeking re-election for the position. Cr Speedie defeated Cr John Watson in a vote for the top job. The new mayor, who has recently left her role at Albury Wodonga Community College, said she had not sought the position before as she had not felt she had the time or capacity to fulfil the role to the best of her ability. “Now is my time, she said. “I believe I have the understanding, the knowledge and skills and personal circumstances that will now enable me to undertake this role in a full-time capacity and in doing so give it my fullest commitment. Cr Speedie has served on the council for the past 10 years and this will be her first term as mayor. The development of Junction Place, the central business district and Logic are high priorities for Cr Speedie, along with attracting services and businesses that create new jobs and opportunities for the city. Cr Speedie has also paid tribute to her predecessor. “I would like to take the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and thank Cr Wangman for his tireless dedication, commitment and effort as mayor, Cr Speedie said. “His capacity and dedicated hard work over the past two years has been monumental. No deputy mayor was elected.
