BUCKETS to a hotel where I have been twice and waited over an hour for a meal, which was very disappointing because it wasn’t busy. Lift your game or the opposition will overtake you. The meals were nice but the waits were too long. Unhappy Diner, Geelong West BOUQUETS to a nice man who generously gave me $2 to try a massage chair at Westfield Geelong. He had just finished with the chair and laughingly said it was torture but I found it wonderful for my aching back after lugging around Christmas parcels. Grateful, Torquay BOUQUETS to a pair of lovely ladies who came to my assistance on 21 November when I had a nasty fall on the pavement between Gheninghap and Fenwick Sts. Their care and concern were wonderful. Nothing broken, just pride dented. Embarrassed, Belmont BOUQUETS to a girl at the Queenscliff Music Festival. She came up to me as I waited in line, said she had a free ticket and put it around my arm so I could go in to enjoy the music. It showed how the festival has nice people. Brian, South Geelong

HOSPITALITY giant Accor has taken over the lease of Geelong’s largest waterfront hotel from the Sheraton group. The 109-room Novotel Geelong will join Gheringhap St’s Mercure as the second major Accor hotel in the city. Accor’s Simon McGrath said the arrival of Novotel presented Geelong with “significant opportunities” to win new visitors from the brand’s
“world-wide reach” and partnership with sports organisations including the AFL. Tourism Greater Geelong and The Bellarine executive director Roger Grant was “thrilled” with the change of hotel tenant. “We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Novotel Geelong as it opens a new chapter with the world’s largest hotel group,” he said.
