Napthine Liberals Commit to Fixing Thompsons Road

A message from the Premier, Dr Denis Napthine p

The election on 29 November is about choice, trust and good decisions. GEOFF ABLETT

It is about who the Casey community can trust to manage taxpayer’s money wisely so that Victoria has the financial freedom to provide the facilities, services and support that individuals and local families need and deserve.

Cranbourne

A re-elected Napthine Government will deliver $310 million to upgrade Thompsons Road between Western Port Highway and the South Gippsland Highway.

It is about who has the best judgment to make good decisions that give everyone the ability to start and build a career; travel around their community easily and safely; where we all have access to good health services and quality education.

This major local road infrastructure announcement includes the removal of the roundabout at Western Port Highway. This notorious roundabout will be replaced with a freeway style interchange which will improve safety and save time.

This election is about who has done the hard work and has the best plan for Victoria. Through strong financial management we have repaired the budget and put Victoria in the strongest financial position of any state in Australia.

Liberal candidate for Cranbourne, Geoff Ablett, advocated strongly for the Thompsons Road duplication. “Cranbourne has been crying out for better roads and public transport for years.” “Like so many members of the community in the south-east, I have seen first-hand how our growing population has put pressure on local roads and the train line,” Mr Ablett said. “Now that we’ve fixed Labor’s budget mess, we have the capacity to deliver the vital infrastructure projects that the south-east needs.” “The inclusion of a grade separation at the intersection of Western Port Highway and Merinda Park level crossing will make a huge difference to the overall impact of the duplication.” “Locals have been calling for the duplication and for a solution to the congestion at the roundabout and I’m proud to be committing to this project as part of Denis Napthine’s team.” Once the upgrade is complete, drivers using Thompsons Road will save up to 20 minutes with average speeds during peak hour increasing to 70 km/h from the current 20 km/h. Casey’s Road and Rail Plan includes: $310 million for a major upgrade of Thompsons Road A new six lane duplication of Thompsons Road between Western Port Highway and the South Gippsland Highway; Removing the roundabout at Western Port Highway and replacing it with a freeway style interchange; Eliminating the Thompsons Road rail line level crossing; and A bike and walking track along the 7 kilometre length of the road. A $2.5 billion upgrade to the Cranbourne Pakenham rail corridor including new signalling, trains, railway stations and the removal of level crossings to improve reliability and travel times from Casey stations; and Building East West Link to provide an alternative city crossing and to take pressure off the Monash Freeway and Princes Highway.

The Napthine Government is the only choice with a real plan, with real investment that will lead to real jobs for Casey’s families.

As our community knows, a strong economy built on strong financial management means we can create more jobs, improve services and provide the facilities to help Casey families get ahead. Daniel Andrews is linked to the unions and the CFMEU. That means dodgy deals, weak compromises and more uncertainty and mismanagement for Casey families. If Mr Andrews won’t stand up to the unions how can he be relied upon to stand up for Casey’s interests? Only the Napthine Government can be trusted to keep Victoria’s economy strong in order, to have the money to pay for services that Victorians need and deserve, deliver safer communities, attract investment, create jobs and provide opportunities for Victorians to live satisfying and fulfilling lives. Only the Coalition will build a better Casey and secure the future for you and your family.
