■ Gift motorcycles of mum and son disappear...

Brazen thieves By LIA SPENCER

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy and his mother are distraught after motorbikes they received as gifts were stolen from their Pakenham home this week. Loki Wendt’s mother Monique said she was shocked to find that her motorbike and her son’s motorbike were stolen from her garage in Tipperary Circuit in the Falling Waters Estate on Monday morning. The blue and white 2013 Yamaha YZ85 and 2011 Peewee 50 with a Monster energy drink logo on it were stolen between 8.30pm on Sunday and 7.30am on Monday. Mrs Wendt said her husband discovered the motorbikes were missing at 7.45am, and she then had the dreaded task of informing her young son. “Loki was really upset, he cried. He was given the gift from his grandparents on his third birthday and just had the training wheels removed. It was uninsured and we do not have the money to replace it,” Mrs Wendt said. “The Yamaha YZ85 was a gift to me from my husband, so we could all enjoy the sport of riding bikes together as a family. I did not even get a chance to ride it yet.” Mrs Wendt said that she was unsure how the thieves got access to the garage, as there were no signs of forced entry. She said the door was always closed, but feared one of the family members unintentionally pressed the garage remote and the door was opened, accidentally. Mrs Wendt said it was disturbing to think that people would be so brazen as

to steal two motorbikes from the garage, which was located close to the house. “I was completely surprised that they were stolen while we were asleep – it’s scary,” she said. “My son had trouble sleeping on Monday night because he was scared the bad guys would come back,” she said. Mrs Wendt believes more than one person was involved in the burglary. “I think they would have pushed the bikes away, then either had a vehicle up the road or just close enough to push them to. Then, they would have had to come back twice.” Motorbike helmets, bike accessories and tools were also stolen from the garage. Police said the estimated cost of items stolen was about $9000. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Pakenham police station on 5945 2500.
