Flexicar general manager Greg Giraud said the service, which boasted a few hundred members across the municipality, was a good alternative to public transport or families needing a second car. “There’s really strong interest from residents, especially from Seddon and Yarraville,” Mr Giraud said. “It works well in high-density areas where people need a car a few days or a few hours a week. “Studies suggest one car share vehicle replaces between eight to 14 privately owned vehicles and Maribyrnong City Council supports the introduction of the Flexicar car share scheme to give residents and businesses access to a convenient, costeffective sustainable transport option. “Flexicar members drive an average 500km per year compared with the usual 15,000kms driven by a car owner. Maribyrnong Mayor Grant Miles said car sharing was a great solution to parking issues across the municipality.

CAR sharing is gaining traction in the City of Maribyrnong. Car share service Flexicar has expanded their service across Footscray, Yarraville and Seddon with the introduction of new locations in Yarraville’s Ballarat St, Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus, Albert St in Seddon and at the Yarraville Train Station near the bus and drop-off area. The Ballarat St and Victoria University locations will each include two Flexicar vehicles. The cars, which are generally located close to public transport and in mixed-use areas, can be used for durations from one hour to three days. The cars are generally compact fuel-efficient vehicles that are fully maintained by Flexicar. According to the Flexicar website, users must pay a $70 annual membership fee to get started. Rates fluctuate depending on usage and drivers can pay an hourly or daily rate. Other Flexicar locations in the municipality include Greig St in Seddon and Somerville Rd in
