Sen Const Goldsmith said police were appealing for witnesses to the incident. “We are particularly appealing to two people, a male and female, who were walking a dog through the park just prior to the incident,” she said. The two people were described as being between 40 to 50 years old. Sen Const Goldsmith said it was a reminder for parents to remain vigilant. “It is concerning for the family, young boy and Victoria Police and we would like parents to remain vigilant,” she said. “If a child is going to school,

TWO dog walkers could hold the key to finding a man behind an attempted abduction of a young boy in Berwick last week. Detectives have been told the 11-year-old boy was walking with his dog through parkland toward Bournevale Drive about 5.30pm on Tuesday 19 November. Just before he entered the small park he noticed a white van perform a U-turn in front of him. The van later pulled up in front of him at a bus stop on the northern side of Bournevale Drive near the Queens Court intersection. Detective Senior Constable
Greer Goldsmith said the man got out of the van, opened the sliding door of the vehicle and asked the boy if he wanted to pat the black Labrador dog that was inside. The boy took a step back, then the man stepped forward and attempted to grab the boy’s arm but he managed to take another step back. “The young man threw his basketball at him and ran off,” Sen Const Goldsmith said. “The boy behaved in sensible manner and went home and alerted parents. “The man wasn’t threatening and it is unknown what his motive was.”

IT’S so much more than a little white ribbon. Hundreds of people throughout Casey, Cardinia and the City of Dandenong wore the now iconic symbol on Monday in collective support of White Ribbon Day, part of the crucial campaign to end men’s violence against women. White Ribbon Day events were held throughout the three municipalities this week, beginning with a men’s breakfast in Pakenham on Monday, where roughly 70 men signed the Men’s Pledge to prevent violence against women. Later in the morning, 40 people walked down Main St, Pakenham with black and white balloons to display their support of the campaign. In Dandenong on Tuesday, men, women and children marched from Dandenong Market to the Drum Theatre for the inaugural City of Greater Dandenong Walk Against Family Violence, culminating in a series $of, moving speeches in $6,990 $12,990 7990 the packed theatre. Casey Police Inspector Wayne Viney said family violence statistics in Australia were damning, with police taking a report of family violence in Casey, Cardinia and the City of Dandenong about every 70 minutes. “One Australian woman every week is killed by a$current One in every$21 three $21,990 ,990 16,990or former partner. women will be a victim of family violence during their life time,” Insp Viney said. “I challenge you to stop and count the number of women in your life, your mother, your wife, your daughter, your sister. The statistics are clear, there is every chance one in every three of the women closest to you will be the subject of family violence.” $26,990 $26,990 $27,990 Insp Viney’s comments were followed by crime statistics released by Victoria Police on Wednesday that show one in three family violence intervention orders were breached in the state from September 2012 to September 2013.
