We have a lot of varsity experience returning this year that I think will help us with our confidence and help us reach our potential.”

varsity players and keep them on their toes. It will be interesting to see who makes varsity this year.”

We started with six players interested, but only freshmen Reagan Lambert and Julia Carlson decided to stick it out. So, we’ll start building

a program with these two,” Coach Sautter said. “Reagan has played in some of the tournaments this summer and is making progress. Julia attended clinic this summer at the course and I already have seen improvement in both of of them since we started practices. We have much to learn. But as with anything, you come to practice every day ready to get better. So far that is the case.”

Team strengths: “I love the attitude

of these two gals,” Sautter said. “No one’s worth is ever based on their performance and that always needs to be the case. Our focus will be to work on consistency and learning how to manage the course and our individual game. Even though I’ve coached the boys’ team in the past, I have a lot to learn right along with Reagan and Julia. I can’t wait to see them improve and gain confidence over time.”

Team strengths: “Returning Grace Tolstedt at pitching is big for this program,” Palomo said. “She was the Star-Herald All-Region Player of the Year a year ago. I think our pitching and our bats will be our team’s strength this year.

Returning eight starters from last year’s team is big as well.”

Team goals: “Have a good attitude and give our best effort each and every game,” Palomo said. “Play with confidence. Have good communication.”

Last year’s highlights: “Blue collar. Those are the two works that come to mind when I think about the 2016 team,” Palomo said. “We ended with a 1215 record and a third-place

finish at districts. We set the school record for wins in a single season. It was fun to see everyone fire on all cylinders at districts.”

Team strengths: “Our boys team will round out a full team for the first time in several years, being more competitive this

year than in the past. Alex Araujo has been an amazing example of what leadership looks like, showing up every day to push himself and his team,” Smith said.

“Nicole Barker has been an excellent leader her entire high school career, and as a senior we hope to carry her to a district title.

Leah Albro and Jessica Whitebear will use their state trip last year to inspire the rest of the team to join them and make a name for themselves. This is a tightknit group of girls who like to have fun pushing each other to be better every day and don’t shy away from challenges they face.”

Burry connection will be tough for opponents to defend and vital to Bayard’s success. Dalton Harter will be an important part of the Tiger defense as well.”

Competition: “I expect all of the teams we play this year to be tough,” Martin said. “However, all of the teams we play in C2-8 will

be very tough.”

beneficial,” Coach Hilbert said. “With a new head coach, we will be working with new expectations, offenses and defenses, goals, and practice schedules. So, even though we have five returning starters we have to regroup, build upon what these athletes know, add to their knowledge base, and build upon their strengths.

MaKenna Dahlgrin and Jadyn Cross are looked upon as our team leaders as they both serve, pass, and hit well. Jadyn Cross and Sier-

ra Flores will be able to set up our hitters nicely. Emily Singleton and Rylie Mason will be more active hitting from the outsides. Other team supporters will come from Bailee Underhill, Sam Vanosdall, Jules McDonnel, and Jessica Williams.

These four girls will be able to step in when needed and do a good job for the team.

We look to be more competitive this year and are excited to get our season started.”

Team strengths: “We

have lots of returning seniors that will help us out this year,” Hilbert said.

Team goals: “Learning how to work together as a team and how to work hard as a team so that we can be more competitive as a team,” Hilbert said. “Improve serving percentages.

Mental toughness needs to improve in order to compete at a higher level.”

naments this fall as she is a major contributor to our team and she is also a great leader. She has been dealing with knee injuries the past three seasons and hasn’t been able to play.”

Team strengths: “Our leadership is incredible,” Marez said. “We don’t have to worry about runners finding their role on the team. Everyone is part of the bigger picture and we support each other every day. We have some quality experience and guys who lead through hard work

and commitment. The state meet experience is always a bonus for confidence and motivation. We have four guys with that experience and they should be the leaders we depend on every year.”

Team goals: “Run our best at the end of the season,” Marez said. “Show progression each week.

Finish top three at the district meet and finish top five at the state meet.”

Last year’s highlights: “Despite injuries to our

key runners, we exceeded year-end expectations,” Marez said. “We had an injury that deflated the spirit of the team, but the guys responded well and qualified as a team for the state meet.”

Season outlook: The Bulldogs return plenty of returners from a year ago while losing just three players from last season. Gering will rely on two pitchers this season with Tori Hoagland, a senior, the No.

1 thrower. Hoagland started six games a year ago, striking out 19 with a .241 earned run average. Bobbie Claflin will also see time in the circle.

Kaetlyn Todd, Delaney Dean, and Paige Peterson, along with Hoagland have plenty of experience as the four seniors have seen action at the varsity level all

four years. Todd will be the main ingredient in the Bulldog fight for a district title. Todd will start her fourth year behind the dish after helping her summer league team the Cheyenne Extreme to a Wyoming state championship.

Team strengths: “Our strengths are the skilled kids

and the quarterback,” Aarestad said. “We also like the fact that we have a good group of sophomores and freshmen to build on with our big class of juniors that we have.”

Team goals: “Our teams goals are to get better each day,” Aarestad said. “If we can get better and improve each day, we will compete in each game.”

Team strengths: “I think having a couple girls who have started and played in various positions will be a strength for us,” Craig said.

“This is a very cohesive group of girls. With time and leadership, we should progress in a positive direction.”

Ehler said. “At every level it is important to gain confidence from our good shots while also learning from our poor shots and preparing for the next one with the same amount of focus. We will focus on golf as a team game, which will help teammates instill continued confidence in one another by being positive.”

Team goals: “Return to the state meet and get a spot on the podium,” Carrizales said.

overcome this terrible injury and now is ready to have a great senior year. I am expecting big things from him. Jesse has grown into a great leader for the younger boys. I feel like the boys’ team has a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see how they perform in October.”

Team strengths: “Great team leader and young hardworking kids that enjoy running,” Carrizales said.

“Defensively, we will be as fast as we have been since I have been here. We need to continue to work on our physicality with our back 7. I think we will have the ability to cover people, but we need to limit the big play better this year. As we continue to get older and mature, I think that we will make fewer mental mistakes and if we can do that I believe we can have a top notch defense. Our biggest challenge is going to be if we can stop the run against big powerful backs and offensive lines. We are going to see that week two at Star Valley so that should be a good gauge for us to see where we need to get to once the conference season rolls around.”

with the group of girls I have for varsity this year,” Coach Jackson said. “My team is stacked with great athletes with a readiness to learn and grow both as individuals and as a team.”

Team strengths: “One of

our biggest strengths this year is going to be experience. With nine seniors and seven juniors, we have many girls who have seen a lot of varsity time,” Jackson said.

“Our team has been very committed to camps, summer

leagues and open gyms over the summer, which is going to give them a head start on being in shape for this season.

I know our team is going to make great strides this year and I’m extremely excited for what this season holds for us.”
