ABOUT STAR DISTRIBUTING COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT, INC Star Distributing Commercial Laundry Equipment, Inc. is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and as a full service distributor we offer a wide variety of sales, service, installation and parts for commercial laundry equipment. Established in 1958, by Durwood R. Davis Jr., we are the oldest commercial distributor in the southeast and have accumulated generations of expertise and knowledge and are well equipped to handle any and all of your commercial laundry needs. We are proud of our track record of over five thousand successful laundry and dry cleaning establishments over the past 60 years! My father, Durwood, was what today would be called a super salesman. He was honest, hardworking and cared about his customers, his word was his bond.

Michael and his family have personally owned and operated more than thirty laundry and dry cleaning establishments.

Michael now owns 3 first class laundries in Tennessee. This gives our company an advantage in being familiar with all aspects of the laundry business from the design phase, to construction and through the day-to-day operations.

In his early years, after a stint in the Navy, then putting himself through college he started a company in New Orleans selling advertising to companies that was placed in Yellow Cabs. From there he got the idea of working with weekly newspapers in Georgia and Alabama. He would sell advertising to local business and run a column in the weekly paper called, “Sandy Says”. He used my mother’s picture and “Sandy” would say to shop at so-so for the best deals etc.

The objective of Star Distributing is to reach the highest level in our industry and we do so by providing a combination of services to increase our competitive position. As a full service distributor, Star can create a new laundry from start to finish creating a turn key operation while customizing the business to meet its demands and the needs of our customers. Star is proud to offer the most attractive and well-built stores and distinct facilities in the United States. In addition, our company commitment to the environment continues by offering equipment using less energy, water and detergent.

One day, my father was approached by a gentleman, Jim Hudson. Jim was a distributor for Speed Queen. Jim said to my father, “I’ve heard of your selling abilities and I have a great opportunity for you selling coin operated laundry equipment and setting up stores. My dad laughed and said “that will never go over, everyone has a washer and dryer, but, I will keep my eyes open”. That was the beginning of Star Distributing Company, 60 years ago.

The super staff at Star Distributing provides excellent support in all phases of the commercial laundry industry and can help with all your needs. As evidenced by our recent expansion, we continue to enjoy growth and development in the industry and could not do this without our stellar employees.

Star Distributing covers commercial laundry needs in five southern states, which includes our home office in Nashville, Tennessee. We are proud to announce that we are the oldest distributor in the Southeast under the same family ownership. Star has been a distributor for Speed Queen since 1958. Star also distributes B&C Technologies for the larger OPL laundries.

Star sells Speed Queen in Tennessee, Kentucky, North Alabama and parts of Virginia, and North Carolina. In addition, we offer professional outside sales teams in Cleveland, TN, Knoxville, TN and in Nashville, TN. We are well known for establishing some of the nicest and most profitable coin and card operated laundries in the southeast.

In 1995, after purchasing Wishy Washy from James Hofstead, we opened a second office in Nashville Tennessee.

Mr. Hofstead was a pioneer, as the first laundry equipment distributor in the United States, when he started Wishy Washy in 1948 and had built 10,000 laundries.
