GRATITUDE REPORT 2019-2020

FROM OUR PASTOR, PRINCIPAL, & SCHOOL ADVISORY COMMITTEE What a school year we completed! As a year with many ups and downs, it is more important than ever to take time to appreciate and recognize our school families and generous benefactors. We are pleased to present the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School Gratitude Report, an account of the generosity bestowed on us during the 2019–2020 school year. Throughout the school year, we have been collecting anecdotal stories from our families about the beautiful impact that our school has had on them. We would like to share one with you that highlights the mission of St. Anthony: “I would like to say a word of thanks to you and your team for their selfless dedication towards our children. When this unexpected and unprecedented pandemic occurred last academic year, your team reacted very quickly and our kids had their materials ready to be brought home and the teachers found new ways to teach each of them despite all the difficulties. Thank you again, for all that you and your team has done and are still doing. I’m really glad that my child is a student at St. Anthony of Padua.”

We have been blessed with courageous founders, generous benefactors, energetic and gifted teachers, attentive and hardworking students, and supportive parents, all of whom have been willing to make numerous sacrifices in order to further the cause of Catholic education for our students.

During our 2019-2020 academic year, we added many programs. We adopted a new English Language Arts curriculum for Kindergarten – 8th grade requiring even more rigorous critical thinking and skill application. We implemented our Second Step Social Emotional Learning Program helping our students form more deeply the skills they need to be good friends and citizens. We worked to strengthen our community during our school year themed “Belong” as we added a Running Club, Father/Daughter Dance and Mother/Son Dance! All were huge successes which we look forward to establishing as traditions.

Thanks to generous support of the Fund for St. Anthony, our first ever virtual A Million Wishes Gala, other advancement programs and our school’s ongoing focus on moderating operating expenses, we were able to maintain a balanced budget in 20192020. While our surplus was minimal, we were able to complete upgrades to technology, our campus facilities, and support tuition assistance.

Your dedicated support is a blessing to all of us as we work to nurture the souls and enrich the minds of our children. Our mission to continue this tradition of educating responsible, faith-filled young people is possible because of your willingness to invest in our future. IMPLEMENTATION OF SECOND STEP Second Step, our new Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum was implemented throughout all grade-levels and is designed to instill and foster skills for our students' social and academic success.

PADUAN SINGERS BRING HOME MEDALS Our Paduan Singers (Middle School) participated in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association Houston Region Solo/Ensemble Contest for the first time and brought home three medals!

ADDED ENRICHMENT PROGRAM Our new Enrichment Program, IGNITE, gives students exposure to higher-level thinking skills and extensions of core lessons – helping us to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

RAPID CHANGE TO REMOTE LEARNING Almost overnight, our faculty and staff made the change to remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were proud of our faculty for continuing to provide a high-quality, Catholic education during an unprecedented time period.

DOLPHIN DONOR DAY Our 4th Annual Dolphin Donor Day raised $107,000 in support for our school thanks to Matching Gifts from Faculty & Staff, the Brady, Fedele, Girotto, Romero and Velardo families, as well as two anonymous families!

S.T.R.E.A.M. RECOGNITION Our school earned recognition as a STREAM Synergy School by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, which celebrates our achievements in the areas of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.

FUND FOR ST. ANTHONY The Fund for St. Anthony is vitally important as St. Anthony relies on income from charitable contributions to help reach a balanced budget each year. The Fund for St. Anthony is the primary avenue through which we fill the gap between the cost of providing an exemplary education for each student and the amount paid for tuition. The Fund for St. Anthony is made up of hundreds of gifts from St. Anthony of Padua parishioners, parents, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends.Â

THE LEADERSHIP SOCIETY The Leadership Society is a group of lead benefactors to the Fund for St. Anthony, who through their generosity demonstrate a commitment to the ideals and mission of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. STEPS FOR STUDENTS Steps for Students, an annual 5K Run/Walk, raises awareness for Catholic schools across the Greater Houston area. St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School had y on February 16, 2020 and raised over $8,600 for our school! A MILLION WISHES GALA Our 19th Annual Auction Gala was held on April 18, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the event became our school's first ever virtual event! Despite the changes, the auction was still able to net over $155,000 as support for our students and programs. Raise the Paddle raised over $11,500 for 20th century classroom upgrades and flexible seating.

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School, in partnership with parents, is focused on the continuous formation of the whole Christian person. Our learner-centered curriculum maintains high academic standards and nurtures the development of a life-long love of learning. Students are actively engaged through the use of a variety of instructional methods and emerging technologies that promote collaboration and higher level thinking skills.
