APPROPRIATE DRESS FOR HALLOWEEN AT SCHOOL
St. Anne’s School’s Halloween Costume Guidelines as an Episcopal school
Updated Oct. 2025

As a Twos through Eighth Grade Episcopal school, we seek to promote fun, child-friendly dress at school on Halloween and during school-related Halloween events.
General Halloween Costume Guidelines:
While Halloween often celebrates the spooky and surprising, please be mindful when selecting costumes. Avoid those that are overly frightening or could be considered offensive. Costumes should reflect fun, age-appropriate, and inclusive themes—keeping in mind that our school community includes very young children. Please also refrain from wearing costumes connected to specific religions, cultures, or political viewpoints, as we aim to foster a welcoming and respectful environment for all families. Our goal is for Halloween costumes to spread joy throughout our community.
If you have any questions about whether a costume is appropriate, we encourage you to review these guidelines with your child and err on the side of caution when selecting attire for the school day or for school-related events. The School reserves the right to make final d ecisions regarding costumes that raise concern.
In-School Halloween Costume Guidelines:
Because students will be in costume for much of the day, please ensure that costumes allow for comfortable movement, do not create tripping hazards, and permit independent restroom use. Students may wear costumes over their regular school clothes and change after their parades—either on their own or with parent assistance. Please note that teachers are unable to assist with changing into or out of costumes; therefore, if your child cannot change independently or if a parent will not be present to help, your child should plan to remain in costume for the entire day.
Students may bring larger or more cumbersome costume pieces in a bag and add these accessories before their parades. Face paint may be worn to school; however, masks are permitted only during parades, and children must be able to see clearly through any mask or headgear. Since students will continue with regular daily activities, including PE and recess, please make sure they wear appropriate footwear.
