PREPARATORY SCHOOL TRIP POLICY
Aim
To enjoy the trip and the experience of living overseas and competing against children not from New Zealand.
To embrace the culture and the opportunity.
To maintain an environment in which each student may exercise self-discipline and set high standards for themselves, promote the good name of the College, and protect the rights of everyone in the community.
1. The Deputy Principal of Preparatory School, Alex Kelley, has overall responsibility for student behaviour.
2. Students are expected to maintain good standards of dress and grooming at all times. They are required to behave courteously to staff, other students and hosts, and to abide by the standards set by the school.
3. Mr Kelley will deal with any instance of inappropriate behaviour, such as:
• loud, rough or discourteous actions;
• damage to property;
• lateness for commitments;
• incorrect wearing of uniform or untidy appearance.
4. In any instance of grossly unacceptable behaviour, Mr Kelley will refer the matter to Principal of the Preparatory School, Leigh Fowler. This may result in the student returning home early with any additional cost met by parents/caregivers. This includes behaviour such as:
• continual or repeated disregard of school standards;
• actions or comments which make it difficult for others to enjoy or benefit from the trip;
• absence for any tour engagement without good reason;
• involvement in taking banned/illegal substances.
Attendance
No student may absent themselves from the school group or its arranged activities, except for special reasons, which have been approved by the staff in charge.
COVID-19
All students should be tested at home within 24 hours of departure from Christchurch. In the event a child tests positive for COVID-19 during the trip, the student will be isolated in a room and cared for by teaching staff. Parents/caregivers agree to collecting their child within 24 hours of a positive test result. Staff reserve the right to test students with a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) if symptoms are present.
Health
A copy of your child's current Health and Medical Form will be taken on the tour and shared with the teachers in charge. Please update medical information through the portal if there have been any changes to your child’s health that may affect them while on the trip.
Access the Health and Medical Form via the Community Portal, or via this link: https://portalprod.stac.school.nz/MyDetails.aspx
Students taking prescribed medicines should ensure they have ample supply for the duration of the trip. It is the student’s responsibility to carry their medication and ensure it is taken at the correct times.
For minor needs, a simple First Aid kit is carried by staff.
Property
All personal property must be clearly marked with the owner’s name. It is the student’s personal responsibility to take all reasonable care to safeguard money and personal possessions. Money should not be left in insecure places.
The school does not carry insurance for loss of student property on school trips.
Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance has been organised for each student. Please read the document carefully; any additional insurance is the responsibility of parents/caregivers.
Transport
Essential transport will be arranged by staff or hosts. Students should not accept lifts without the approval of staff or hosts. Hitchhiking is forbidden.
Dress – Sport Uniform
Correct College sport uniform, or team/group uniform when appropriate, is a requirement when on a St Andrew’s College trip.
