End of Year Round-Up What a fantastic year!

When I become Head of the Primary school at the beginning of this year I had two main aims. The first and most important was to make sure that St. Andrews continued to be a great place to learn and that our students continue to enjoy coming to school every day. One of my highlights this year has been standing at the school gate in the mornings, welcoming and getting to know so many students and parents. I am always greeted with happy smiles and energy and enthusiasm for the start of the school day. I think this is a good indicator that we are on our way to achieving the aim set, but we all know it needs constant effort to maintain it.

As a Primary School, we agreed a second aim would be to ensure that students continued to make good progress in all areas and always think about how they can be, ‘the best at getting better. ‘We have definitely seen this continue to happen this year and I hope that as parents you have also seen lots of evidence of this too.

You can see from the tables below that we have continued to improve from last year in our end of year GL tests and the vast majority of students in years 1-6 are working at or above expected levels in English and Maths. More importantly, students in years 1-6 continue to make outstanding progress due to their hard work and effort and the excellent support they receive from their teachers and parents.

As well as academics, our Primary students have made excellent progress in their PYP units of Inquiry, their extra-curricular activities and improving their learner profile skills such as collaborating, taking risks, being caring and increasing their knowledge. We believe that progress in these areas goes hand in hand with progress in academics and it is really important to us that we continue to offer opportunities for our students to become ‘independent, confident lifelong learners’ who will have all the skills needed to live a happy and successful life when they leave school.

I am really proud of all our progress and achievements this year and I hope this end of year newsletter provides you with some of the highlights. I am really looking forward to next year when we can continue to build on our successes and be the ‘best at getting better’ in all areas.

Thank you for all of your support throughout the year, a successful school is one where, students, parents and teachers work together and we are so fortunate that we have these strong and effective partnerships. I hope you have a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you all at the start of next year. For those families that are leaving St. Andrews we wish you all the best in the future and hope the wonderful memories of our school remain forever strong.

They help us in so many different ways, from fundraising to running activities in the kitchen.
