THE OPENING OF STAMFORD COLLEGE’S MODERN METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION CENTRE
The grand opening of the Modern Methods of Construction Centre at Stamford College was celebrated among local dignitaries, stakeholders, Inspire Education Group (IEG) staff and Stamford College students, in a ceremony that recognised the wealth of opportunities conceived from the £3.3 million facility. Allison Homes, as an Inspire Education Group (IEG) Industry Skills Academy partner and sponsor of the new build, also took the opportunity to launch their new brand, Allison Partnerships.

PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE GRANTED PLANNING PERMISSION FOR CENTRE FOR GREEN TECHNOLOGY

Peterborough College has been granted full planning permission by Peterborough City Council for its proposed Centre for Green Technology.
After unanimous approval, the 2300 square metre build is expected to commence this summer, with the delivery of courses following in September 2024. Peterborough College has worked with employers to develop an innovative curriculum, which includes modern methods of construction, emerging construction technologies, alternative heat sources and electric vehicle technology, equipping students with the skills to embark on careers in high-growth industries.
Emulating the ‘green’ curriculum offering, measures will also be taken to ensure that the Centre for Green Technology will be a ‘net zero build’, meaning the total energy demand of the building is met by use of onsite renewable energy.
Restaurant is solely run by staff and students within our hospitality and catering department.

Peterborough And Stamford Colleges Compete In Aht Competition Regional Heats
Peterborough and Stamford Colleges hosted the Midlands Regional Heats for the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Competition, in which hairdressing and beauty students from across the nation showcase their skills and compete against one another.

Our students performed well at the AHT Midlands Regional Heats, holding Inspire Education Group in good stead to defend its national titles at the AHT National Finals in May.

PETERBOROUGH AND STAMFORD COLLEGES HOST CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING SKILLS CAREER EVENT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTH LINCOLNSHIRE GROUP TRAINING ASSOCIATION
Peterborough and Stamford Colleges hosted a Construction & Engineering Skills Career Event for local school students, in partnership with South Lincolnshire Group Training Association.

Hundreds of students from University Academy Long Sutton, Nene Park Academy, Thomas Clarkson Academy, Marshfields School, City of Peterborough Academy, Queen Katharine Academy and Casterton College, enjoyed a wide variety of hands-on activities, from studying thermal efficiency materials, to performing machinery checks. Each task was kindly sponsored by a local industry provider – thank you to representatives of Anglian Water Alliance, CITB, Crowley Associates, Essential Site Skills, Galliford Try, GBSG, Millstone Restoration and Travis Perkins, for sharing your invaluable expertise.
An awards ceremony, sponsored by GBSG, at the end of the day was a fantastic way of recognising students that displayed an aptitude or interest for the activities they participated in.

Itv News Film Segment About Eddi The Trainee Therapy Dog At Stamford College
Stamford College were delighted to host representatives of ITV News, who filmed a segment about the College’s resident Trainee Therapy Dog, Eddi.
Eddi, the black Labrador Retriever, became an official member of staff at the beginning of the academic year, regularly working on site as part of her development journey towards becoming a certified therapy dog. Whilst learner-led interactions assist in Eddi’s progression, her calm and docile disposition supports students, specifically learners within the Skills for Work & Living department, in their own development.

The camera crew filmed various shots of Eddi going about her daily duties, enjoying a game of fetch on the field, and even of her sat at an office desk with a cup of coffee!
MOTOR VEHICLE LECTURERS COMPLETE ELECTRIC/HYBRID VEHICLE TRAINING WITH AUTOTECH TRAINING
Motor Vehicle lecturers at Peterborough College recently completed Level 2 and Level 3 Electric/Hybrid Vehicle training, provided by Autotech Training.
We are proud to say that our staff excelled on the course assessments, with Rob Walsh, Trainer at Autotech Training, explaining that seven lecturers from the College completed the onsite training, “with four of them scoring 100% on their assessment.”
Our lecturers now have the knowledge and skills required to work safely on electric/hybrid vehicles, whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This will greatly benefit our Motor Vehicle students, who will now be trained by qualified technicians to repair and maintain electric/hybrid vehicles.
Two members of staff, Laura Rees, Head of Faculty for SEND, Learner Engagement and Ambitions, and Katherine Mears, Skills for Work & Living Lecturer, alongside three Skills for Work & Living students, were interviewed by ITV about the benefits of interactions with Eddi.

Itv News Film Women In Construction Segment At Stamford College
Stamford College were delighted to host representatives of ITV News, who were filming a segment about women in the construction sector.
Prompted by recent statistics that show stagnation in the growth of female participation in the male-dominated industry, ITV contacted Stamford College, requesting to interview female students currently enrolled on the Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry & Joinery and Bricklaying courses, to portray the benefits of learning a trade.
Three students; Plumbing Apprentice, Scarlett Ball, Level 3 Plumbing student, Angela Payler-Giddings, and Level 1 Brickwork student, Shannon King, alongside Carpentry Lecturer, Laura Doyle, were interviewed by Good Morning Britain Presenter for ITV News Anglia, Emily Knight.

They discussed their inspiration for learning a trade, their career plans and their advice for women looking to pursue a career in construction. All were a credit to the College, and the wider community of tradeswomen.

FORMER PETERBOROUGH COLLEGE STUDENT’S EXHIBITION BEING HELD AT UCL URBAN ROOM IN EAST LONDON’S OLYMPIC PARK
Former Photography student at Peterborough College, Caitlin Vinicombe, is having her work exhibited at University College London’s new campus until the 29th of April 2023.
After graduating with a First in Documentary and Photojournalism at University of the Arts London, Caitlin has begun her journey to becoming a full time photojournalist.

Stamford College Performing Arts Students Act In Educational Short Film For Cambridgeshire Police
Level 3 and 4 Performing Arts students of Stamford College were hired as actors in an educational short film, commissioned by Cambridgeshire Police.


Filmed as part of the Cambridgeshire Police Safer Streets Project and Businesses Against Abuse Accreditation Scheme, the film was designed to educate night-time industry employers about the issue of sexual violence against women and girls. Julie Addison, Assistant Principal of Student Experience & Support at Stamford College, explained, “This activity has allowed us to work with our young people to ensure our staff and students are aware of potential risks in their everyday lives and will help us to continue to promote the IEG zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment and sexual violence towards young people.
We will continue to educate our staff and students in support of keeping themselves safe by providing the skills required to identify it, call it out and educate others”.
