August is National Wellness Month

All during August, National Wellness Month focuses on self-care, managing stress and promoting healthy routines. Create wholesome habits in your lifestyle all month long and see how much better you feel! Research has shown self-care helps manage stress and promotes happiness. Whether you challenge yourself to try a new exercise or a healthy recipe, small changes can impact your health in positive ways. There are numerous ways to make small daily changes, including:  Increasing your water intake, especially when the weather is hot  Adding more fruits and veggies to your meals, check out the local farmer markets  Adapt a new evening routine to ensure a better night’s sleep  Join a yoga, walking, or aerobics class; the Center has many classes available  Learn mediation or breathing techniques to help relieve stress.  Try a new hobby or join one of our many clubs here at the Center Remember, small healthy changes each day will lead to more healthy habits in your lifestyle which will lead to a happier healthier life!

Baked Summer Squash

INGREDIENTS

 2 pounds summer squash (zucchini, pattypan squash, yellow crookneck squash)  1/4 cup olive oil  1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese  1/3 cup bread crumbs  1/2 teaspoon salt  1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the stem ends and slice the squash cross-wise in 1/4-inch-thick rounds. Toss with the olive oil. 2. In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Arrange the squash rounds in a 9x12-inch rectangular baking dish, or 10-inch pie plate. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture over. 3. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake another five minutes until the top is bubbling and crispy.
