A-H

CLASS SCHEDULE •

Saint Thomas Academy runs an eight-day, eight-period rotation. On a typical day, students attend five classes. Days run alphabetically and periods numerically. For example, on an “A-Day,” students attend classes 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5. The next day, a “B-Day,” they attend classes 6, 7, 8, 1, & 2. The rotation has been set for the year and is noted on the school calendar, app, website, and student planners.

•

Each class meets for 55 minutes, five out of every eight rotational days. This amounts to about 55 class meetings per semester.

•

The first bell is at 7:55 a.m. with class starting at 8:00 a.m. Classes end at 2:50 p.m. Faculty are available until 3:15 p.m. for tutoring.

•

Students eat lunch from 11:35 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. or from 12:35 - 1:05 p.m., based on assignment.

•

“Community Time” is scheduled daily from 1:10 - 1:50 p.m. During this time, students are either with their advisor in Advisory or engaged in tutoring or clubs & activities. Advisory meets twice a month for students in grades 10-12 and once a week for students in grade 9. 11

ACADEMIC CALENDAR •

Saint Thomas Academy runs a semester-based academic calendar. Quarter grades post to PowerSchool but are not included on the final transcript. Final grading policies vary by faculty member, but are typically distributed as 40% for the first quarter grade, 40% for the second quarter grade, and 20% for the final exam grade. With a few exceptions, Saint Thomas Academy follows a conventional A-F grading scale.

•

During the Open Enrollment Period, students may request to change their class schedule by completing the Schedule Change Request Form found on the Registrar’s webpage (www.cadets. com/academics/registrar). The Open Enrollment Period ends 16 academic days from the start of the semester.

•

Following the end of the Open Enrollment Period, the student’s teacher may direct a course change. No course changes are permitted 24 school days from the start of the semester.

•

Fall semester exams are held on the final four days of the term in January. Spring semester exams are held on the final three days of the term in June. Students who are absent or plan to be absent for a final exam will receive an incomplete grade for the course and be ineligible for co-curriculars until that incomplete is resolved. They will need to work with the instructor to arrange for a proctor. Unresolved incomplete grades convert to ‘F’ grades two weeks from the end of the grading period.

12

L ATE START •

Saint Thomas Academy schedules one late start per month, typically on the first Wednesday of the month. Students should arrive by 9:25 a.m. with classes starting at 9:30 a.m.

•

On occasion, the Academy may delay the start of the school day until 10:00 a.m. due to inclement weather. Parents will be notified of a delayed start via email, text, and on PowerSchool. The Academy will also notify area news agencies.

MASS •

Saint Thomas Academy celebrates all-school Mass nearly once per month. On Mass days, students should arrive at school in their Class A uniforms.

•

Saint Thomas Academy’s Chaplain, Fr. Timothy Combs, celebrates daily Mass in the chapel and presides over confession several times a week.

Feel free to reach out to Fr. Combs at tcombs@cadets.com with questions relating to the Academy’s liturgies.
