Between preparing for use five Tiny Homes, Grass Maintenance and Repairs, also providing irrigation to the New Arena by the Pavilion, it’s been a busy spring for the Grounds Crew. If you add the two raised beds that are going to provide some “Beds to Bistro” vegetables herbs and fruit, you get the flavor of what’s been a very busy few weeks.
The grass on cross country has been helped by a significant amount of relatively regular rain…..it’s also been improved with the adoption of a new Aeration and Irrigation program.
A new area of interest this year was when we discovered around three acres of Mountain Laurel - Kalmia This created an additional area of focus on the Trails.
Now named Kalmia Canyon this area has become one of the favorite areas for the Aiken Trails Club @ Stable View. Unfortunately, with a viewing life of around three weeks, next year will be the first time we will be able to watch our Mountain Laurels’ development from buds to blooms
While we believe they were early this year, we have the second week of April 2026 marked of for our first visit to Kalmia Canyon.
While the June HT won’t have as much profile as last year - when Stable View was the final preparation facility for the US Eventing Team prior to its departure for the Paris Olympics - it will be back to business as usual.
Please note that with the Intercollegiate and Interscholastic Championships getting their own date in 2026, the May Local Charities HT will become stand alone This year $10,000 was donated from this event to the Stable View Foundation.

FREE TO BEE
Having started in early spring with five nucleus colonies (also known as "nucs") from a local bee supplier, Stable View's bees have grown to eleven, almost twelve, hives with healthy queens Over the summer, we have supported the bees' efforts to build up and prepare for winter. Our goal is to contribute to healthy pollinators in our area, and share the sweet fruits of their labor!
A BIRDER'S PARADISE
This time last year, Stable View had one resident Red-Cockaded Woodpecker Today, we have sixteen! Additionally, by increasing our number of nest boxes we have helped many of our feathered friends thrive: this year, we have fledged 550+ Eastern Bluebirds; a pair of Eastern Screech Owls fledged two young; and the American Kestrels fledged all five nestlings from the same nest box as in previous years.
HISTORICALLY, "A GATHERING PLACE"
Set out afoot–or ahoof–on our 15 miles of marked trails, each named in honor of local Native American tribes, where you may see evidence of our prescribed fires, which increase plant diversity, perpetuate endangered species, allow wildlife easier access to food sources, restore nutrients back into the soil, and reduce the risk of wildfires
According to our expert, Mark Pavlosky of MPJ Wildlife, we expect to observe many migrant species working their way South early this fall.
We look forward to hosting bird watchers who wish to view native, rare, or endangered species on their lists!
