Welcome to St. Xavier High School where today is the start of many amazing tomorrows. St. Xavier High School is a private, Jesuit, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men grades 9 –12. Founded in 1831, St. Xavier is the fourth oldest Jesuit school in the country and the oldest private high school in Cincinnati. Rooted firmly in the Jesuit tradition, students develop into Men for Others. Students attend St. Xavier from all over Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana; more than seventy-six different zip codes are represented annually. Of these young men, 21% represent various minorities and multiple religious denominations, including: Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, and Islamic. The foundation of history, tradition, and Catholicism frame one’s education beyond the classroom. More than 90% of students participate in voluntary community service programs and mission trips to strengthen their own resolve and serve others. Our school’s mission is to assist young men in becoming leaders and Men for Others. Historically, 99% of graduates each year enter a four-year college or university. The goals we set for our graduates are to be open to growth, intellectually competent, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice.

At St. Xavier belonging is paramount. Students are positively instilled with optimism, self-efficacy, self-esteem, and sociability. Our school works to make everyone feel more connected, safer, and part of something much bigger – A COMMUNITY. By providing support, spirit, and a family focus; we build a unique camaraderie that is known as the Long Blue Line.

My St. Xavier education has been instrumental in my success at the University of Notre Dame. I was incredibly well prepared. I recieved a highly coveted summer internship at an investment bank in Chicago where I coincidentally interviewed with a St. X alum. The reach of St. X really is quite remarkable. I am grateful to be a part of the Long Blue Line.

Our goal of deepening a student's understanding by learning through handson experiences and 'live' interactions; is as important as ever. Our program’s vision is to connect students with St. X alumni and parents in various professional fields to help these students discern their passion and ultimately, their college major and career.

“Your education at St. Xavier will prepare you to achieve your dreams.” This is Col. Lance Kollstedt ‘88 displaying his St. X pride at the 121st Air Refueling Wing on the Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus, Ohio. Kollstedt is the 121st Operations Group Commander and KC-135 Evaluator Pilot.

Leo H. Gerbus ‘53 Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation This is a place where students will learn entrepreneurial and leadership skills. Mentored by the Servant Leadership Initiative, students are immersed in real world experiences. Students activate their minds, get their hands dirty, and engage in true experiential learning.

God can be found in every place, everyone, and everything.

The retreat programs at St. Xavier are designed to give students, at each grade level, opportunities to develop spiritually; by recognizing God in the people and the events of their lives.

Students have opportunities to learn about and experience various forms of prayer throughout the year. These include Ignatian contemplative prayer, the stations of the cross, adoration prayer, labyrinth walks, and more.

Students are required to take eight semesters of religion throughout their high school career. They are invited to a deeper understanding of God and how God is present in their lives.

Masses are celebrated each school day at 7:30 AM. There are also six all school masses during the year.

St. Xavier athletics cares deeply about what our athletes make of the game. We care even more about what the game makes of our athletes. The Contemplative in Activities Program involves meeting with our athletes each week of the season. The focus of each meeting is upon the inherent formative lessons of the game such as grit and sacrifice, resilience and hope, camaraderie and generosity. Scripture and prayer are part of each “chapel visit” as well.

Every day, students and faculty members walk past the statue of St. Francis Xavier, who holds high the cross. He was a well-educated man who continued to learn as he traveled far, appreciated different cultures, read and wrote much, and mastered new languages. He serves as inspiration and guidance in our everyday, which we strive to make extraordinary.

All 1,360 young men at St. Xavier High School are enrolled in an authentic college preparatory program. St. Xavier’s investment in our student’s education today allows them to be successful tomorrow and forever.

“

Every course and every activity is carefully fashioned towards instilling the following traits in our graduates: Open to Growth, Intellectually Competent, Religious Loving, and Committed to Doing Justice.

Dan Lynch, Principal

“The mission of St. Xavier High School is as simple as it is powerful. We are here to assist young men in their formation as leaders and Men for Others. St. Xavier athletics, as well as every other endeavour that is undertaken by this institution, needs to intentionally serve that mission. Every boy that comes here and seeks to be a part of the St. Xavier athletic community has become aware of some gift that he possesses, but what he quickly learns is that the gift is not enough. We are here to form leaders and that leader is a young man who has rigorously honed and cultivated those gifts through sacrifice, grit, and determination. As a Man for Others, he’s asked to take those gifts which has taken so much of his time and preparation and lay them at the feet of his teammates. This experience will mean more to him than a score at the end of a game or trophies at the end of the year. This is the experience to make him the man he longs to become.”

Paul Rieselman, Chaplain

Ad maiorem Dei gloriam, AMDG. God becomes better known to the world because of the way I chose to live my life. That’s the power these boys have, and that’s what Men for Others and leaders do. They find their gift, they cultivate it, then they give it away. What’s really amazing is that others catch on and they do the same.

Service programs are instrumental in providing the type of transformative experience that is the hallmark of Jesuit education. Through the experience of service, students acknowledge the importance of their contributions to society.

Each summer, our students venture out on immersion mission trips across the Midwest, including West Virginia, Tennessee, and in Cincinnati. While serving on these trips students learn about issues facing their broader community. They build relationships with other students, chaperones, and community members. They discover new talents, skills, and ways of thinking. From work such as construction and farming, to serving in soup kitchens and working with children, students acquire valuable skills and gain life-changing experiences.

“If you have the ability and the desire to be a student at St. Xavier, then we do not want finances to be a barrier to your enrollment ” Mike Dehring ‘88 Assistant VP for Enrollment

St. Xavier High School can make your son’s education affordable. Each year St. Xavier distributes over $6.9 million to assist students in gaining their education. By choosing to send your son to St. Xavier, you are making an investment not only in great academic instruction but also in the person your son will become. Growth will not only come in the form of knowledge but also in preparing students for their future-academically, socially, and morally. We fully understand that an investment of this nature can involve financial sacrifice, but we also believe there is no worthier cause than the complete education of a young man. Together we can make this happen for you and your family.

EdChoice funding is the first source of aid to bridge the gap between tuition and what a family can afford to pay. Therefore, eligibility for EdChoice scholarships is taken into consideration before any financial aid is offered through St. Xavier High School. The State of Ohio provides $7,500 state-funded scholarships to students living in public school districts that the state has designated as low-performing. These scholarships may be used to attend private schools, including St. Xavier.
