CAREER CONNEXIONS
Students, adults hear how to navigate toward success
Career ConneXions enhanced its curriculum this past winter by adding a seven-part seminar whose content has been presented in leadership sessions at business colleges at the Universities of Cincinnati, Indiana and Notre Dame.
The program, titled “Navigating Toward Academic and Career Success,” was created by Bill Bagley, who, with his son, Scott, runs Bagley Consulting. Combined, the Bagleys have more than 65 years’ experience in the human capital arena, writing, teaching and consulting over a broad spectrum of industries.
The course was offered online over seven consecutive Wednesday evenings this past winter. The topics were:
• Nine-Year Plan and Becoming a Strategic Partner • Personal Credibility, Self-Assessment and Goal-Setting • First Impressions and Impact Interviewing • Interpersonal Engagement and Oral Communication Skills • Marketplace Eminence – The Networking Factor • Managing Yourself Around Time Demands and Time Constraints • Leading Others via “Connection” Strategies. The seminar was made available to all St. Xavier students, parents and alumni.
Bill Bagley says he became interested early on in what made some people successful. He majored in history as an undergraduate, focusing on leadership styles of successful people in many fields. “Servant leadership” seemed to be the theme of those people who appealed to him. In graduate school, he crystallized methods that would help people find success. He began to focus on Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” as a standard for achieving success. His curriculum distills this information.
