HUMAN RIGHTS ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF OTHERS St. Thomas is the only university in Atlantic Canada, and one of few in the country, that offers the opportunity to pursue a major or honours in Human Rights at the undergraduate level.

You will study Human Rights in national and international contexts and complete individualized research projects on specific topics.

STU Moot Court has represented the university in the last two American Moot Court Association National Championships (California, 2016; Florida, 2017).

Learning to find solutions

Hands-on learning

You will be driven to understand and fight for necessary changes. You will see how decisions, events, and other actions affect people. You will acquire the ability to navigate through legal and political realities to create a better world.

In addition to in-class learning about the operations of non-governmental organizations, you will participate in the hands-on work of a human rights group.

#1: STU’s International Law Society won first place at the 2017 Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition in Geneva.

Moot Court If you’re interested in the legal side of Human Rights, take the Moot Court class. You will craft and deliver legal arguments by competing in a Supreme Court simulation, where you will answer questions from a panel of judges.

After graduation If you want to further your education or pursue a career in fields such as law, social work, or law enforcement, Human Rights is a great place to start. You will be ready to enter the workforce in the field of advocacy, working for a non-profit organization, or working in a wide-array of government offices.
