May He enkindle the wills of all so that they may overcome the barriers that divide, cherish the bonds of mutual charity, understand others, and pardon those who have done them wrong. May all peoples of the earth become as brothers and sisters, and may the most longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always among men and women”. And to all this we say ………... Amen.
New Year is the world’s most popularly celebrated festival and has been around a long time, dating back to the era of emperors. The first celebrations for the New Year were noticed in Mesopotamia around 2000 years ago . It was celebrated in mid-March by the Egyptians, Persians and Phoenicians & the Greeks celebrated it in winter. The date was subsequently moved around according to the different calendars that emerged. Finally, the emperor Julius Caesar officially declared January 1 to be a New Year in 46 BC. However the date was changed a few more times during the medieval period until Pope Gregory XIII abolished the old Julian calendar and introduced the Gregorian Calendar in 1582 the Gregorian calendar was set to celebrate New Year on the first day of January. New Year’s Resolutions was and is a common tradition in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement during the coming new year. Babylonians made promises to their gods that they would return borrowed objects and pay their debts. The Romans made promises to the god Janus. In the Medieval era, the knights took the “peacock vow” to re-affirm their commitment to chivalry. Today, people’s resolutions are varied and may include—to improve physical well-being, to donate to the poor more often, to become more assertive, or to become more environmentally responsible.. At this annual time of New Year’s Resolutions, the Church focuses on our faith that gives meaning to our lives and hope to our future. Each New Year reminds us that we have still greater opportunities to see God’s plan for us realized in the future. Let us think about New Year’s “Realizations,” rather than the list of resolutions we make and break each year. Our first New Year’s Realization is that we are all, each one of us, specially blessed by God. Second, that our special blessing comes to us through Jesus Christ who became flesh to teach us to call God “Abba! Father!” Next, that we can all learn much more about what it means to be sons and daughters of God. We should stop and reflect on the truths of our faith and treasure them in our hearts. Finally, that if we are to grow as sons and
daughters of God, we all need to meditate and pray. May this final New Year's “Realization” lead us to make at least one New Year’s resolution that we will truly resolve to keep. 214-4

Lectura 1 Números 6:22-27
Today’s first reading is a passage commonly called “the priestly blessing” which was to be pronounced at the end of an act of ritual worship. In the Old Testament, a blessing is understood to transmit some kind of beneficial power, often the power to give or sustain life, to the person or community that receives it. The Lord is the sole source of the blessing and its power. In this passage the act of blessing includes invoking God’s name upon the people. The name of God often represents the actual powerful presence of God. When God’s name is invoked over the people, the divine source of every blessing is called upon to bestow positive power upon them, in the immediate future and in their entire life as God’s people.
La primera lectura de hoy es un conducto llamado comúnmente "la bendición sacerdotal" que debía ser pronunciada al final de un acto de culto ritual. Reading 2 Galatians 4:4-7 Paul's major purpose in this letter to the Galatians is to defend and clarify his views of Christ in the face of those who had opposed his preaching. Paul upholds both the divinity and humanity of Jesus the Christ. He is primarily concerned with the idea that through Christ, believers are adopted into God's own family as sons and daughters. As proof of his filial relationship, he points out that Christians participate in the Spirit, and so with Christ, they can address God as he did, “Abba, Father”. Gospel Luke 2:16-21 In today’s reading the shepherds act upon the message they receive from the angel and go to find Jesus in the manager in Bethlehem They find things just as the angel had said. The shepherds' visit therefore, is a moment of fulfillment, manifestation, and the beginning of the salvation we receive through Christ. In the context of today’s Solemnity this reading also helps us focus on Mary as the Mother of God. First, Mary is described as a reflective person, keeping the reports of the shepherds in her heart. Second, we are reminded of how obedient Mary was to God when she named the baby Jesus as the angel had directed. Third, this reading shows Mary and Joseph faithfully observing their Jewish tradition by having Jesus circumcised. Mary’s faithfulness to God is evident in all three of these things. Because of her faithfulness to God, she was able to receive the gift of God’s Son and accept her role in God’s plan for salvation. By doing so, she models for us the path of discipleship and is also called Mother of the Church.
El propósito principal de Pablo en la carta a los Gálatas es defender y aclarar su visión de Cristo en el rostro de aquellos que se oponían a su predicación. Pablo defiende tanto la divinidad y humanidad de Jesús el Cristo. THE SOLEMNITY OF MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD On New ‘s Day, the octave day of Christmas, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Holy Mother of God, the divine and virginal motherhood of the Blessed Virgin. The title, Mother of God, is he highest title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This title was given to Mary at the Council of Ephesus in 431 A.D. The council taught that the humanity and divinity of Jesus could not be separated and that they exist in one person, with the momentous implication that we can rightly give Mary the title of Mother of God. This feast is the celebration of Mary's motherhood of Jesus and is the oldest feast of Mary celebrated by the Catholic Church. Why do we celebrate it on New Year’s Day? Pope Paul VI explained in his Apostolic Letter of 1974: "This celebration, placed on January 1, … is meant to commemorate the part played by Mary in this mystery of salvation, It is meant also to exalt the singular dignity which this mystery brings to the “holy Mother”…. through whom we were found worthy to receive the Author of life”. It is likewise a fitting occasion for renewing adoration of the newborn Prince of Peace, for listening once more to the glad tidings of the angels and for imploring from God, through the Queen of Peace, the supreme gift of peace.”
