TODAY’S SPECIAL EVENTS

FEBRUARY 3, 2013

The following is a list of events occuring today at St. Luke’s. For other events and upcoming information, pick up a COMMUNION MONTHLY, available at the end of the pews and at the Information Desk in the Narthex.

Welcome Dr. Hansen

Lenten Small Groups Sign Up

We welcome Dr. Adolf Hansen to the pulpit today. Adolf served as Theologian in Residence at St. Luke’s from 2003 through 2010. His entire career has been spent researching, writing, and teaching subjects that deal with tough theological questions. He has given considerable thought to today’s subject, both professionally and personally. He has written a book, Responding to Loss: A Resource for Caregivers, and coordinated a book, Tuesday Mornings with the Dads: Stories by Fathers Who Have Lost a Son or a Daughter. In the latter volume he tells the story of his 31-year-old daughter who was struck by a bus in downtown Indianapolis while crossing a pedestrian walkway on a green light, and who was pronounced dead the next day, May 11, 1996—his birthday, the day before Mother’s Day.

Over 550 of you have signed up already! A Lenten small group is a five-week commitment to a weekly group to meet new friends and discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon. The sermon series is “The I Am Sayings of Jesus.” Groups will meet between February 17 and March 23 in homes, at church, and in restaurants. New groups are being added daily. New Lenten Groups for youth, families with elementary and preschool children are now available. See the flier at the Adult Ed table in the West or East Passages this morning, or sign up at www.stlukesumc.com.
