ELECTION SEASON - TIMES FOR CONNECTION & PRAYER
FROM THE UMC SOCIAL PRINCIPLES:
Our involvement in political systems is rooted in the Gospel imperative to love our neighbors, to do justice, and to care for the vulnerable. As United Methodists, we acknowledge that love requires responsible political action and engagement aimed at the betterment of society and the promotion of the common good. We acknowledge that such political engagement demands humility and mindfulness of our own complicity in perpetuating injustice. It also necessitates compassion, prayer, and a willingness to discern God’s guidance.
We believe in the inherent worth of all people, which is established through God’s gracious act of creation and most fully revealed in the power of Jesus’s life, death and resurrection. The understanding that people are created in the image of God is a central theme in John Wesley’s teachings.
We further believe that God calls all members of the human family to recognize and protect the dignity and worth of all people and to work for the well-being of all God’s creation. We, therefore, support structures in the church and in civil society that honor the basic freedoms and rights of all human beings and protect God’s creation. In particular, we affirm the important work of the United Nations in promoting peace and security, championing human dignity and human rights, and advocating for sustainable development.

Based on the “Love One Another” campaign, we are joining with Church of the Resurrection and other churches around the country to learn how to live faithfully in this political season, bridge political divides, and find healing for ourselves and the world around us.

St. Luke's Outreach and Justice Ministries invites you to a special evening to consider the costs of gun violence in America's families.
Gather with us in Great Hall on Thursday, August 27th at 7:00 pm for a showing of the Academy Award winning documentary, All The Empty Rooms.
Following the screening, there will be a panel discussion, a letter writing campaign in support of having a Safe Storage Bill heard in committee, and contemplative resources, responses, and supports.

This is a class for everyone, no matter where you are in your parenting journey, how old your kids are, or what your struggles and wins look like.

The “Love Your Neighbor” Tour

Brotherhood is a musical feature film releasing in October that shines a light on the realities of the U.S. immigration system through the eyes of two neighbors whose lives intersect. This fall, Brotherhood’s key creators and cast members will travel across the U.S. on the “Love Your Neighbor” tour and St. Luke’s will host their Indy stop. This evening will feature storytelling, live music, and clips from the film Brotherhood. To ground the themes of the film in our local context, this evening will also include a community panel hosted by the Coalition for Our Immigrant Neighbors (COIN). You won’t want to miss this beautiful and inspiring evening. Ticket information to come later this month.

Early Response Team Training

ERTs provide a caring Christian presence in the aftermath of a disaster. ERTs help to prevent further damage to personal properties by tarping, removing debris, and cleaning out flooded areas. They offer both helping hands and hope to those in need.

Acolytes carry the light of Christ into the Sanctuary for the 9:30 service and lights the Christ Candle on the altar. Then at the end of the service, they carry the light of Christ out of the Sanctuary. In order to participate in our Acolyte program, students must attend a brief training, ALONG with their parents/guardians. Training will take place in August and January.

KIDS & YOUTH CHOIR
At St. Luke’s, we are committed to helping all children explore a variety of ways to worship and praise God! Kids & Youth choirs are a wonderful opportunity for children to develop musical skills, build friendships, and share their gifts in worship! We have 3 choirs available for kids and youth that will kick off on Sunday, September 20th. Registration will open up in August.
Genesis Choir 4 years old (as of Sept. 30)-Kindergarten

The Genesis music program is designed to teach basic musical and movement components to our younger children. Activities will include movement, playing rhythm instruments, and singing sacred songs. Some of these songs will then be performed in both traditional and contemporary services throughout the year.
