Dear Benefactors and Friends: This past fiscal year was a doozy! We started last September by dedicating our new exterior patio on the front lawn and the new entryway and fireside cafe to the student center. We had so much fun developing our culture of home and home court advantage that we have spent the last three years working on! Thanks to all our benefactors and friends, but especially Bruce and Theresa McPherson, Peter and Veronica Mallouk, and the Mabee Foundation, whose lead gifts allowed us to express our heart for welcoming more new students through the dedication of new facilities. Then in March . . . .COVID! And as we opened our doors this year . . . more COVID! But we are here, determined to defeat the pessimism and politics of the moment with a faith, hope and love that endures and conquers all things. St. Lawrence is embracing this year as a challenge, but even moreso, as an opportunity to engage students at KU with conversations of greater depth. You have helped us through your gifts these last few years to develop an environment of trust and vulnerability, where all of God’s children have a place at the table. Conversion through conversation! Whether through masks, zoom or distance - we are neither giving up nor giving in, but engaging students as best we can. Thanks to you! As you can see in these pages, your tremendous support helps St. Lawrence dare to stand out in so many ways, and gives us the best chance to engage more Jayhawks and to guide the greatest stories of this generation at a time when they are most tempted to dismiss the Catholic faith. roommate asked me questions about my faith, Mass traditions and why I believed Catholicism was my religion. While I didn’t know all the answers to her questions, I invited her to Mass. She didn’t always come, but I never failed to ask her. Fast forward two years, she is about to be baptized into the Catholic Church.”
“One of my biggest growths in interior freedom has come from the internalization that God is the one in charge and not me. Beforehand I had struggled a lot with the notion that I need to succeed in everything that I do and if, by my definition, something goes wrong, then I am a failure and God is disappointed with me. My time with the people at St. Lawrence has helped me really reverse that incorrect thought process to an increased desire and commitment to fulfill God’s plan.”
“I believe my relationship with God grew from childlike faith into a more mature, personal relationship with God. It is true that childlike faith is very pure and innocent. While at KU, I faced many challenges that tested my understanding of my identity and personal beliefs. My childlike faith has been shaped into a more refined and holistic understanding of my Creator, and I feel that I know Him more deeply.”

Students reject living in isolation and understand that they’re part of a larger story. They are able to engage in relationships outside of themselves. They participate in the Mass and love the Catholic church, which is why tradition and obedience are embraced as gifts.
SELF-GIFT

CONTAGIOSITY
Students’ way of life draws others to themselves and has an infectious, apostolic quality about it. Those who come in contact with someone living a great story come to know Jesus because of the contagious spirit that has been cultivated in them. There is a naturalness to their sharing of the Gospel through the way they play, host others, engage in conversation and live the joy of the Gospel.
“Daily encounters with Jesus in the Eucharist at adoration and Mass are key in living a life of communion. I am so thankful that I had the sacraments constantly available just five minutes away from my house. Being able to grow in relationship with Jesus through the Eucharist grounded me in a faith that will not be shaken when I leave KU.”
“A big way I have grown during my time in college is in my capacity to receive. Over the last four years, my heart has transformed, healed, and pursued by Jesus Christ in ways I couldn’t even have imagined. Moving on to the next chapter of my life, my deepest commitments are to become more in union with Jesus, to follow him more freely, and love Him more fully. In whatever The Lord calls me to, I desire to do these things and keep saying ‘yes’ to Him!”
