Dear Benefactors and Friends: Thanks to your prayers and support, this last fiscal year our heart and our home got bigger. Supported by the Archbishop, our Board of Directors, and especially by you, we have been able to take many risks to reach more students. Our staff and student leaders have become much sharper at implementing our evangelization strategies. This expansion of our hearts is now sacramentally embodied in our new front patio and student center entrance. I’ve been challenging students to have people over more than they go out. We have become superintentional about creating a culture of home here at St. Lawrence. We’ve been hard on ourselves, asking about the impression that outsiders and newcomers have when they visit St. Lawrence. Guided by great Gospel stories like the Prodigal Son, the Woman at the Well, and the road to Emmaus, we’ve asked what environment is needed to have the most meaningful conversations and draw more students into the beauty of the Catholic faith. I hope that we are on our way to create the best home court advantage in the nation! It’s my goal that the St. Lawrence Center becomes as recognizable and as commonplace in campus conversations as Allen FieldHouse. We desire our culture to be a visible sign that we love having people over, and that there is always a place at the table for you here at St. Lawrence! Culture change is costly and requires patience. Yet we know that if we can create a space of trust, vulnerability and play at St. Lawrence, the kind of hard conversations that bring students to the fullness and freedom in Christ for which they are made, will emerge, and the huge legacy of great stories guided by the St. Lawrence Center will only multiply. As I have made my faith my top priority and tried to integrate it into my life, I have seen many more of my conversations and relationships gravitate towards God. It’s intimidating to share faith in the classroom at KU, but those moments of sharing have led to some really cool friendships and conversations. I am amazed at how a stranger who I sat next to in my environmental sociology class has become a friend who I pray with every week.
Unafraid to be themselves and to share the reality of their lives with others, including God. Students are able to be formed and led by a guide. Life is lived from the inside out and masks are shed. CARLA BORDIER

I like to think of myself as a “ relatable role model”...I don’t want people to put me on a pedestal, I want people to see me with all my faults and my slip ups and to know that I don’t have it all together, and I sure as heck don’t have all the answers. However, I hope that the way I live out my faith life, by showing my faults and #keepingitreal, will impact someone to realize that they don’t have to “be” like anyone but themselves.

I believe my relationship with God grew from childlike faith into a more mature, personal relationship with God. It is true that childlike faith is very pure and innocent. While at KU, I faced many challenges that tested my understanding of my identity and personal beliefs. My childlike faith has been shaped into a more refined and holistic understanding of my Creator, and I feel that I know Him more deeply.

The community at St.Lawrence has given me some of my closest friends and some of the most cherished memories I have in college. The men at St. Lawrence, have walked with me through struggles, doubts, and fears...the women of the SLC have taught me how to love them as sisters in Christ.
Students are contributing/serving in the life of the Church, giving their time and resources towards a larger good and willing to sacrifice their needs and wants for the sake of the world around them. Growth in virtue allows for living in freedom and fullness. MATTIE KARR

Students reject living in isolation and understand that they’re part of a larger story. They are able to engage in relationships outside of themselves. They participate in the Mass and love the Catholic church, which is why tradition and obedience are embraced as gifts.

CONTAGIOSITY
Students’ way of life draws others to themselves and has an infectious, apostolic quality about it. Those who come in contact with someone living a great story come to know Jesus because of the contagious spirit that has been cultivated in them.
