Dear Friends,
A swashbuckling pirate. The Jolly Roger flapping in the wind. Young men with maroon facepaint chanting ominously, building to the frenzied crescendo. While this sounds like a scene from the latest Disney pirates flick, it accurately describes the home stands during a football game at our very own St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute! For decades, our students have exchanged the shirts, ties, and dress pants they wear during the school day for uniforms proudly displaying the Marauder when taking the field. Courageous, cunning, and creative, the Marauder is a beloved athletic mascot for St. Joe’s. However, Marauders are also known for their love of a good party, and that is tonight’s goal! Welcome to Lasallian 2023: Marauders Bash!
The Lasallian is always a great time to celebrate St. Joe’s and connect with old friends and alumni. While we have much to celebrate this evening, there is a serious and vitally important aspect of tonight’s festivities: raising essential funds for financial assistance and academic scholarships to provide access and opportunity for our current students and future generations of Marauders. While you are “partying like a Pirate” this evening, I hope you will also be as generous as possible in bidding for silent and live auction items, buying raffle tickets, and raising your paddle during our special appeal! The need for tuition support has never been greater. Thanks to generations of generous Marauders, we anticipate the largest class of incoming freshmen during my tenure in September. They would not be Marauders without you!
Planning for the epic party began almost a year ago. I want to thank our incredible chairs for the Marauders Bash: Elise and Martin Cusack P’20, ‘22, ‘23, Melissa and Kevin Deakin ‘86, P’21, ‘24, ‘26, and Tara and Raymond Paolini P’25. I’d also like to thank two extraordinary parent volunteers, Kim Gilbert P’14, ‘18, and Susan Hurley P’15, who have worked tirelessly on tonight’s details over the past several months. And, of course, Lasallian 2023 would not be possible without the efforts of the Advancement Department, including Dan Warner ’06, Liz Grady, Pat Shandorf, Kathy Deyell, and Mike Corona. Thank you to these Marauders and our Lasallian Leadership Committee for bringing the Marauder community together to benefit our students.
The Lasallian is the year’s highlight for the St. Joe’s community. Tonight will surely be an epic BASH, but more importantly, this event showcases what is truly special about the St. Joe’s community: family, friendship, fraternity, generosity, and fun! Thank you for being a part of this special evening, and thank you for your support of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and your partnership in our shared Lasallian mission. Now, let’s party like pirates!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, Pray for Us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, Forever!

LASALLIAN 2023 COMMITTEES
On behalf of our Co-Chairs Kevin ’85 and Melissa Deakin P’21, ‘24, and Drs. Raymond and Tara Paolini P’25, we would like to thank everyone who has helped make tonight’s 2023 Marauders Bash Lasallian such a great success! We are so proud to be a part of this historic event that opens the doors of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute to so many young boys on their road to becoming successful men of integrity, talent, and determination. As parents of three such young men, we have seen firsthand the successful results of what a Lasallian education can achieve for its recipients, not only during their four years at St. Joe’s, but, more importantly, throughout life. Again, many thanks for showing in your appreciation for this great institution by generously supporting this year’s Lasallian. We all are excited to celebrate with you tonight!
