As a Catholic Montessori school, St. Catherine’s is dedicated to an educational experience which awakens in our students the awareness of their gifts and responsibilities as individuals in relationship with Jesus Christ and as stewards of the global community.
MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
“The child is endowed with unknown powers, which can guide us to a radiant future. If what we really want is a new world, then education must take as its aim the development of these hidden possibilities.” – Maria Montessori
Building the future, a radiant future , requires many hours of dedicated service by many people, working towards a common goal. At St. Catherine’s, we have been dedicated to our students and families since 1966 and have accomplished success in many ways. The 2018-2019 school year was no different. We marked this year with the implementation of our strategic plan. This plan sets us on a course to expand our programming and facilities to match educational needs; develop strategies for inbound and outbound communications; align governance policies and processes with best practices; and secure SCM’s financial future by strengthening relationships with our constituencies.
We began 2018-2019 by welcoming students and staff into our renovated library and newly-constructed Upper Elementary classrooms. As the school year progressed, St. Catherine’s continued to grow by expanding our programming and personnel to support the SCM High School and making plans to graduate our first 12th grade class in 2020. Our Adolescent and High School communities produced a climate change symposium that educated, empowered and impacted our entire community. We also improved communication by revising handbooks, developing an internal communications plan, enhancing our online school calendar function and conducting surveys to our families. Our board of directors revised its by-laws to increase the number of members, and we continued steps to secure our school’s successful future by establishing strong relationships with other schools and submitting three foundation grants.
As I approach my 10th year as Head of School I look back at what we as a community have accomplished so that we can look forward to the next 10 years. I am excited at what we can accomplish together.

SCM Fund 2018-2019
"EVERY FAMILY FOR EVERY CHILD"
The SCM Fund is the foundation of all St. Catherine’s Montessori giving because it touches every member of our community and allows us to fully fund the cost of educating each child enrolled at school.
Annual contributions to the SCM Fund provide the necessary resources to cover classroom materials, salaries and benefits for our guides and staff, professional development, and campus utilities and maintenance. In addition, these funds allow St. Catherine’s to maintain affordable tuition rates for the benefit of all SCM families.

The St. Catherine’s Montessori community gathered on November 3, 2018 for the school’s biennial gala and auction, Night Owl Soirée. Nearly 300 parents, alumni, friends, faculty and staff all came together to celebrate the life-changing work of our Dominican Foundresses Sr. Edna Ann Hebert, O.P. and Sr. Shirley Owens, O.P. †
The evening’s presentations included a cocktail reception and silent auction that showcased the newly restored Sister Edna Ann Hebert Library, a spirited live auction, and a band that truly kept guests on the dance floor into the early morning! From the beautiful owl concept art design to the gym’s magnificent transformation, the classroom projects and procurement auction items, guests had the opportunity to enjoy the labor of love our volunteers, staff and children poured into this memorable evening for the benefit of our community. We wish to thank all of our guests, sponsors, underwriters, and auction donors whose generosity raised $244,000, earning record-breaking totals of $27,750 for the Classroom Art Projects and over $45,000 in Paddles Up giving, all in support of the school’s greatest needs.

Maintaining affordable tuition for families who wish to send their children to St. Catherine’s Montessori is a fundamental principle in which our Dominican foundresses firmly believed when they opened the school in 1966. Sr. Edna Ann Hebert, O.P. and Sr. Shirley Owens, O.P. † also believed in providing education to children from diverse backgrounds, and these values set the stage for our long-held position to remain affordable and inclusive.
In 2018-2019, St. Catherine’s awarded $64,500 in tuition assistance to 26 students from 14 families.
Also in 2018-2019, with the combined contributions of grant support, individual giving, and the annual Steps 4 Students 5K Run/Walk, we received over $25,000 towards the SCM Tuition Assistance Program, which allows St. Catherine’s to provide future tuition aid directly to our families.
