HEALTHCARE

The expansion and renovation of the existing Orlando Regional Medical Center involved construction of a 10-story patient bed tower and a four-story expansion on the south and east sides of the existing hospital. The 350,000 SF, 245-bed tower houses several units, including cardiac care, neurology, trauma intensive care, and inpatient rehabilitation. The 100,000 SF expansion increased the side of the emergency department, creating a four-story structure for the clinical departments. SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology design services. The project utilized the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method.
ORLANDO, FL
ORLANDO REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

The project consists of a new 200,000 SF hospital where SSR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology services. The hospital was opened to patients in 2012 and is located in Wesley Chapel, Florida. It is a full service facility providing inpatient care, an emergency department, five operating rooms, catheterization procedures, C-section delivery suite, and diagnostic imaging among other services.
The central plant was designed with 100% MEP redundancy. During a power outage the entire hospital continues to operate on bi-fuel generators. Cooling is provided by an efficient variable primary chilled water system controlled by the Building Automation System (BAS).
SSR led the MEP consulting industry by delivering this project using Building Information Modeling (BIM) well before it became commonplace. This allowed very accurate internal and external coordination in addition to providing a 3-D model which is continually updated as future projects occur.

Lee Health’s project history serves as reference to our ability to partner with an organization in a continuing service environment. MEP design firms behave much differently for single projects. For continuous service, the key for SSR has been relationships, understanding expectations, and the ability to track wide-spread facility knowledge.
LEE HEALTH SYSTEM
SSR and Lee Health have enjoyed an over 20-year history of working together at many of Lee Health’s facilities. During this ongoing relationship, our team has completed over 330 projects, including more than 120 AHCA Fromprojects.this history, SSR has been afforded the opportunity to work on multiple facilities at all four Lee Health campuses including both acute and non-acute facilities, as noted below. The longevity of our relationship and the extensive project experience have made us a valued partner.

H. LEE MOFFITT CANCER CENTER
Additionally, our success at Moffitt exemplifies what our approach to Sarasota Memorial would be: clarity of expectations for all stakeholders, trust-based relationships with facilities staff, and deep-rooted facility knowledge only years of service can provide. FL
We attribute maintaining our long-standing relationship with Moffitt to responsive communication and leadership. It is impossible to have such an incredible resume of projects without a glitch here and there, but our proactive relationships with facility staff and contractors enable us to respond quickly and directly to generate vetted, constructible solutions for the owner to then evaluate.
SSR has served Moffitt Cancer Center for over 20 years completing over 400 projects, the majority of which have been outside the acute care environment.

When reviewing the total estimated energy cost savings for May 2015 through the end of January 2020 for electric and natural gas, the savings come to $1,123,245. In total, approximately 37% of the cumulative savings comes from electricity and 63% comes from natural gas. Total GHG savings during the entire Continuous Commissioning process have been 9,948 Mt CO2e. This cumulative total reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is equivalent to removing 2,094 cars from the road for a year, or powering 907 fewer homes for a year, or sending 53 fewer railcars of coal to a power plant.
BAYCARE ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL NORTH
SSR was contracted by BayCare Health Systems to conduct a Continuous Commissioning® (CC®) assessment of St. Joseph’s Hospital-North. The purpose of the assessment was to evaluate the operational efficiency of the existing HVAC and lighting systems, identify deferred maintenance items that may be impacting overall operational efficiency, identify cost-effective energy savings opportunities designed to resolve operating problems, improve comfort, reduce energy use, and identify potential retrofits or capital-intensive projects for future consideration.
