CONCERTS FOR CHILDREN

Prokofiev’s immortal symphonic fairytale Peter and the Wolf tells how young Peter sets off into the woods against his grandfather’s advice, encounters a wolf, and eventually emerges victorious – with a little help from his friends. Hear how each character in the story is depicted by a different musical instrument. Make this an unforgettable family musical outing!

CONCERTS FOR CHILDREN

Join Leopold the Leopard and his best friend, a talking tree, as they tell a grand tale with the nature settings depicted in Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony. Created by Victor Yerrid, a master puppeteer from the Jim Henson Company, this show will be a great holiday treat for kids and adults alike!

Become your favourite superhero for a day and don your capes and suits for an action-packed programme with Alasdair Malloy as SuperMac, the Kilted Crusader. The music will provide a real rollercoaster ride of super heroic sounds from the SSO, showing off the orchestra’s super-strength, super-speed and super-sound!

Bring your little ones to the ever-popular SSO Babies’ Proms, a unique concert experience where you are not expected to sit still nor sit quietly in the concert hall! It’s another round trip of musical exploration with SSO Associate Conductor Jason Lai! Learn about the life of the composers behind the music and how they make whole symphonies out of building blocks of musical themes. Find out what went into Brahms’ last symphony, the dark visions and heady dramas of Berlioz’s “Fantastic Symphony” as well as Bartók’s exhilarating Concerto for Orchestra, where everyone on stage is a soloist.

What Lies Beneath

Celebrate this iconic film of over 50 years and the winner of ten Academy Awards®, including Best Picture. The SSO plays Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying score and memorable songs with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim live, while the newly re-mastered film is shown in glorious high definition on the big screen with the original vocals and dialogue intact. This classic romantic tragedy, directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins and one of the greatest achievements in the history of movie musicals, features Robbins’ breathtaking choreography and a screenplay by Ernest Lehman based on the masterful book by Arthur Laurents.
