As the dew settles, and seemingly the twilight fades away, we once again get a glimmer of reasoning as to what is meant for all of us. I've come to realize throughout my journeys that there is no better peace of mind that one can achieve, then through the majesty and beauty that is our wild outdoors.

We're so fortunate here in Florida to live in a climate that allows us to be outdoors nearly all year round... Baring Mosquitos!! With our dawn to dusk finally nestled back in it's proper place (when are we going to get rid of this daylight savings time? Right!!!??) we now finally get those couple of hours of daylight after work to get things around the house finished up, or mow the lawn, or just scrap it all and just go fishing! I vote for the ladder. Feel free to prioritize your own affairs. Just always keep this in mind. The grass will always grow, that paint will constantly fade, and there's bound to be another leak to fix tomorrow. But that moment that brings you peace and clarity, patience and grace, that moment waits for nobody. So go out there and enjoy our Awesome Florida and make some memories to last a lifetime.

Now to the real deal info!!! The shrimping has picked up greatly with multiple reports of full pulls out of Oak Hill. If your thinking of heading out to try your luck, make sure to check the tide charts available in this here Southern States Fishin' Huntin' Magazine. Also if you get a chance to head out onto the flats sometime soon the Speckled Trout bite has been on fire, having great luck in the mornings with top water action, to later in the day with soft plastics or of course live shrimp or mullet. Also don't forget to set your fishing pole down long enough to apply for any of your hunting permits that you are hoping to draw this year. Gator permit applications start May-7th for Phase1 and May 21st for Phase 2. Also Archery and General Gun permit applications start on May 15th so don't miss your chance to put your name in the hat and get out there and have some fun.

From surf fishing to offshore expeditions, there are opportunities for everyone to catch a Florida memory!

You don’t even need a boat to access exciting on-the-water adventures. With an abundance of options to choose from, we are going to dive into some easy and unique ways that you can make your own Florida memory this year.

Fishing from Shore: Fishing from shore is the act of fishing from land or mindfully wading into the water to catch fish with a rod and reel.

This option is appealing as all Florida residents can get a shoreline license at little to no cost. This licensure allows anglers to fish from land or from structures attached to land, so long as the angler is not trespassing on private property. Learn more at MyFWC.com/ License, and discover how and where to fish.

While sandy beaches are most common, anglers may also opt to fish from rock jetties and fishing piers as well. Rock jetties provide structure that many species of fish are attracted to. On the other hand, fishing from piers often allows the angler to access deeper waters and possibly catch a wider range of species. Fish frequently caught from shore include: kingfish (whiting), saltwater catfish, seatrout, Florida pompano, black drum, flounder and redfish. It is important to have the correct rig set up for this type of fishing. Fish Hook Jewelry and Accessories

Use circle hooks when fishing with natural baits to reduce the chance of gut hooking a fish. If a fish is gut hooked and you need to release it, cut the line as close to the hook as possible. Using non-stainless-steel hooks will allow hooks left in the fish to deteriorate faster. Additionally, you should crimp the barb down on your hooks to allow for faster and easier hook removal.

Fishing from paddlecraft allows anglers to reach locations that would otherwise be inaccessible from land.

In Florida, anglers frequently fish both inshore and offshore in paddlecraft.

Novice anglers should stick to paddling inshore and only go offshore once they become more experienced.

For their safety, anglers fishing from paddlecraft should always be considerate of all other vessels on the water. Great locations to fish inshore include saltmarsh creeks, mangrove shorelines, seagrass flats, oyster bars, bays and estuaries. Fishing from paddlecraft allows anglers to explore new and exciting locations to target various species of fish while enjoying the peaceful serenity of being on the water.

PUTNAM COUNTY BASS WORLD LODGE @386-4672267 Jim tells us that some of the fishermen are finding the bream on the beds. They have just started. The Croaker Hole has been producing some nice stripers. One of their customers caught a nice flounder. Jo Ann Bantz caught a 20 pound catfish using shrimp on the bottom.

Mark and Blonde are still catching small bass using spinnerbaits and plastic worms.

We all wish Lorraine a speedy recovery and want her to know we all miss her tremendously.

Shellcracker and blulegill using crickets and wigglers in Rodman at the dam and they are showing up in Lake Crescent and Dead Lake. Shiners are producing bass fishing up against the lily pads. Some nice bass are coming out of the River. Catfish are coming out of Dunn’s Creek.

New Coast Guard regulation takes effect, requires engine kill switch in boats under 26 feet TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A new boating safety law is now in effect, requiring the use of engine cut-off switches (ECOS) in all recreational boats under 26 feet long.

The United States Coast Guard is implementing the new law after it was passed by U.S. Congress in the National Defense Authorization Act.

The new regulation, part of the Elijah E. Cummings Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2020, requires an ECOS switch or ECOS link while in operation. With some exceptions, boaters that do not have an ECOS could face penalties up to $500, depending on how many times they’ve been found violating the new law.

Law enforcement vessels and other government-owned boats will not face the same requirements.

According to the USCG, ECOS and EOCSL prevent runaway vessels and their potential threats. By having an ECOSL, boat operators are able to shut off the engine if they’re displaced from the helm. Typically the ECOSL is a cord attached to the cut-off switch, or on the outboard motor if the boat is tiller-operated.

A June bug U-vive worm is working well and the topwater bite has started to pick up using frogs. They are still catching some specks out of the deeper water and around the pilings around the bridges using a jig and a minnow. Live minnows are the bait of choice with some fish being caught on jigs under a bobber. 9th street Canal is producing some nice numbers of smaller bucks.

Grouper, hogfish and blueline tilefish seasons reopen May 1 in Atlantic The following species will reopen to recreational harvest May 1 in Florida state and federal waters of the Atlantic: hogfish; blueline tilefish; gag, black, red, yellowmouth and yellowfin grouper; scamp; red hind; rock hind; coney; and graysby.

Hogfish will remain open through Oct. 31, 2021, on the east coast of Florida as well as south and east of Cape Sable on the Gulf coast. Blueline tilefish will remain open through Aug. 31, 2021 and the other grouper species will remain open through Dec. 31, 2021, on the east coast of Florida and all state waters off Monroe County.

Turkey Season opens on March 20th each year and runs through May 5th.

We have 5,500 of prime turkey woods with a mixture of river bottoms, pine ridges and lots of food plots planted with chuffas, the turkey’s favorite. Our seasoned guides are very familiar with our properties and are very personable and experienced. While on your turkey hunt , if you would like to sit for a wild hog in the afternoon, you are allowed to take one hog during the three day hunt for no extra charge. We have lots of them and some really big ones.

We can hunt hogs year round and some of our most productive hunts this past year took place in May, June and July.

We have plenty of land now with hogs to be able to hunt large groups, up to 10.

We can even accommodate bow groups that large. Hogs are very smart animals, don’t come thinking they are just dumb farm animals. This is a fun hunt for all who just do not want to quit hunting after their deer season closes.
