One and a half months has passed quicker than my attention span during online studies. Also, thanks to the Latvian language for having a word describing one and a half (pusotrs). It grinds my gears that I have to use 4 words for that in English.

As the cliché says – so much has happened during this time. The Insider did not have space to fit all my ramblings. Thus, I will now use this page for that instead.

You can read the contents of the issue in the appropriately named Table of Contents.

Due to some interesting course work structuring, I found myself, as many other of my coursemates, peer-reviewing some work the past week. The first BLS failure was blamed on elearning, as the feedback was not available at the beginning and some people failed because of a student ID problem (allegedly). Because of the fuss, in the second PE rating I started considering whether I should grade the work fairly or try and slip my way out by giving the maximum points. There is no way the lecturer and TAs can check all 300 comments anyways, right?

This is how uncertainty and unfortunate circumstances influence our future choices. A small mishap in one place gave birth to anger and my subsequent fear of retribution.

Of course, I do not expect anyone to come to my house with pitchforks, but it still made me consider what the people I graded would think about my honest feedback.

I guess, to limit the uncertainty, we all should just communicate more and better. Easy, right?

In the greater scheme, this makes me appreciate the year I have spent at SSER much more. Even though I feel like I am still the same dumb person I used to be, at least now I can talk about the sunk cost fallacy and how Weight Watchers screwed up their rebranding, amongst other things. Though I cannot stop feeling regret about how this year turned out socially, not due to anyone’s fault. Having no one to blame makes it quite a bit harder to come to terms with. Or I could just blame the government or the Gods, right?

Enjoy the last days of this academic year, grab a drink, blast some 80s Japanese City Pop, and lay in the sun before the inevitable darkness and cold comes back into our lives. Enjoy your internships, any breaks, and whatever else you have planned during summer. See you next year, hopefully in person!
