Introduction into the Alumni world
Dear Y1, did you know that 70% of new job positions are landed through networking and recommendations? One of the most valuable things you’ll gain from graduating from this university besides a mountain of knowledge is a powerful network of connections Think 500+ LinkedIn connections, having the contacts of top Latvian CEOs, and even securing a job through the Alumni network. These are the basic benefits that you can experience thanks to our vast alumni network
Sounds cool, but let me really give you the lowdown on our beloved Alumni Currently, SSER has over 3,000 graduates, including about 300 EMBA alumni
Our top five industries? Finance & Real Estate, Audit & Consulting, IT & Telecommunications, Retail & Wholesale, and Advertising & Media, which has been gaining serious momentum. Let me stop here and introduce you to our Marketing Kings: Kristaps Silins (owner of McCann group, the top advertising agency in the Baltics), Andris Rubins (with over 25 years of making magic in advertising), and the Lithuanian King, Gediminas Užkuraitis (just look at what they did for BC Zalgiris Kaunas, and you’ll get the idea) You’ll dive deeper into the marketing world during the spring course, led by our fellow alumni Marius Raugalas.

Though Latvia has the highest concentration of SSER Alumni, they’re spread out over 60 countries worldwide These legends are making us proud all over the globe, so pretty much no matter where you go, you can always find an SSER alumni to turn to Once you graduate, you, yourself will become part of the Alumni Association' network community We have our own president and board of directors (think SA board, but with no committees and more experience) Currently, our president is Arta Beitāne, class of 2015 Each year, we host a Homecoming event, usually in November. This year is extra special as the school celebrates its 30th anniversary! The party, set for Hanzas Perons, aims to gather more than 1,000 alumni.
We’re pretty sure this event will gather the most successful and impactful people this year. Beyond the party, alumni can participate in mentorship programs, join the annual golf tournament (now in its 10th year), and attend various networking events throughout the year Alumni also contribute to the school through donations, funding scholarships for top-performing students. Plus, they frequently visit as guest lecturers, pro tip - be ready to write their contacts down and connect with them on LinkedIn!
There has also been a lot of research done not only by, but also about SSER alumni. You might not be surprised to hear that in many Latvian companies, at least one board member, or the CEO, is an SSER alumni What is even cooler, in 2015 companies that are led or owned by an SSE Riga BSc graduate generated 5.2 billion euros, (in that year Latvia's GDP was 27 25 billion, calculate yourself the percentage of what our alumni did to Latvian Economy!) A new study led by Anete Pajuste is in the works, and we can’t wait to see the updated numbers.
The fun does not stop there, as many of our lecturers are also proud alumni In Y1 you will meet the lovely Natalja Tocelovska, the sharp Rihards Garancs, and the witty Heidi Reinson, as well as the aforementioned and cool Marius Raugalas. It’s impossible to list all our successful and impactful alumni, but here are a few names you’ll most likely hear often during your studies:
Anastasija Oleinika
CEO of Printify, known for being the most organized alumni out there.

egija gailu
a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree, co-founder of OX Drive with other SSER alumni friends
MARIS SIMANOVICS
created and developed the deposit system in Latvia

armands broks co-founder of Twino, Latvian AI guru, and did you catch the latest episode of Virziens?

aigars kesenfelds is sometimes called the Voldemort of SSER while some debate the ethics of his business practices, there’s no arguing that he’s the 5th wealthiest person in Latvia.
dzintars dreibergs
Did you know that the director of Dvēseļu Putenis, is an SSER alumni too?

And here’s some super exciting news: A new Alumni podcast, Soulstreet, is launching this September! Breaking the stereotype of arrogance and iron hearts, this podcast brings together alumni and students to discuss personal development, values, and their best SSER memories Mark your calendars!
Cheers to an eventful Y1!

HIGH ON HYDROGEN:
What’s Fuelling the EU’s Hype Around It?
As we all know, the earth is round, climate change is real, and fossil fuels are bad (and car enthusiasts will be sad) That's the cold, hard truth, but there is no way to avoid it especially for EU lawmakers, who face the enormous responsibility of finding a way to reach their own net-zero targets To achieve this, they have set very ambitious goals, betting on one substance to fix it all: hydrogen.
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and can be used to substitute fossil fuels. It can be produced using just electricity (also known as green hydrogen) and stored as a gas in pressurized containers. It has the potential to replace fossil fuel usage for all modes of transport, including massive cargo ships and planes, as well as to decarbonize steel production (which currently relies on coal) and other similar manufacturing processes
THE CHICKEN AND THE EGG
While it sounds like a miracle substance that can fix all of our problems, very little progress has been made. Unlike electric cars, which are produced by almost all car manufacturers, there are only three hydrogen car models available on the market Similarly, many electric truck models have been released by companies like Mercedes and Volvo, while hydrogen trucks have mainly been pursued by Nikola, a startup whose CEO, Trevor Milton, was sentenced to jail for defrauding investors
To put it mildly, it has been a rocky road for hydrogen While there is still much debate about its viability, the main issue stems from the lack of infrastructure Unlike electricity, which is globally available and can be easily adapted for different industries, there is
almost no hydrogen infrastructure Hence, there is little incentive to develop hydrogen technologies If no one needs hydrogen, no one wants to build the infrastructure a classic chicken-and-egg paradox
However, in 2020, the EU decided to lay the proverbial ‘golden egg’: a plan to produce 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen in the EU, construct 28,000 km of hydrogen pipelines, and provide funding to support these projects, which has already reached €18 8 billion To put that into perspective, the EU’s hydrogen consumption in 2023 was only 0 11 million tonnes, and €18 8 billion is worth 15 8 Taylor Swifts While these goals seem overly ambitious, one reason for them is the fact that, for many applications, there aren’t any other green options better than hydrogen, so the EU feels compelled to push the industry forward.

Another reason is intense lobbying from Hydrogen Europe: a group that includes companies like Shell, BP, and Neste. These oil giants are interested in hydrogen because it could be their only way to stay in business as fossil fuels are phased out. There are many ways to produce hydrogen, and most of the world’s supply is currently grey hydrogen, produced from oil. This process does create a lot of GHGs, but Shell and others claim they have developed blue hydrogen, i e , a production method that captures the byproducts
IS IT EVEN WORTH IT?
Despite the EU's funding and similar support programs across the globe, investors aren’t very confident about hydrogen The Global X Hydrogen ETF [HYDR], which contains many global companies working on hydrogen technologies, has fallen by 79% since its creation in 2021
There is a lot of uncertainty in this sector, and there haven’t been any major advances that could spur investment only setbacks, like the recent blow from the European Court of Auditors, which found EU goals “overly ambitious”. Moreover, scandals, geopolitical complications, and suboptimal earnings from many companies engaged in this area due to their focus on R&D have resulted in low investor confidence
It's hard to adequately cover all the details in this field, as the hydrogen technology rabbit hole is quite deep, and advancements or failures happen daily Looking further into the future, the EU’s net zero goal for 2050 won’t be achieved without hydrogen Public funding is steadily increasing globally for hydrogen projects, and companies like Cummins and H2GS have found success in
powertrain and steel manufacturing, respectively Therefore, considering the time scope of this transition, some might see hydrogen as a good long-term investment

"Where to find value in an envrionment of the falling interest rates?"

At the latest Federal Reserve meeting, Chairman Jerome Powell hinted that the current US interest rates, which are at a 23-year high of 5 5%, might see their first reduction in September. Historically, the FED hasn’t begun lowering rates until the economy shows clear signs of cooling down, often resulting in significant downturns in financial markets In this article, we will explore the asset classes which can benefit from the declining interest rate environment
LONG-TERM GOVERNMENT BONDS
Long-term government bonds are often considered a safe haven during periods of economic uncertainty and declining interest rates. Macroeconomically, as interest rates fall, bond prices rise This inverse relationship occurs because existing bonds with higher interest rates become more valuable compared to new bonds issued at lower rates
For instance, during the financial crisis of 2008, the FED significantly cut interest rates to stimulate the economy Consequently, long-term government bonds, such as the 20-year and 30-year U S Treasuries, saw substantial price increases Investors flocked to these securities for their relative safety and higher yields compared to newly issued bonds This pattern repeats itself across various economic downturns and periods of monetary easing
Investors can capitalize on this by purchasing long-term government bond ETFs early in the interest rate decline cycle. As the rates continue to drop, the value of these bonds appreciates, providing capital gains in addition to the regular interest income However, it's essential to monitor the interest rate environment closely, as a future rise in rates can lead to capital losses
REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT TRUSTS (REITS)
REITs offer another compelling investment opportunity in a low-interest-rate environment A REIT is a company that owns, operates, or finances income-producing real estate across a range of property sectors REITs provide a way for individuals to invest in real estate without the need to directly buy properties
REITs are particularly attractive during periods of falling interest rates for several reasons:
Dividend Yields: REITs are required by law to distribute at least 90% of their taxable income to shareholders in the form of dividends In a low-interest-rate environment, the high dividend yields offered by REITs become more appealing compared to the meager returns on bonds and savings accounts
Cost of Debt: Lower interest rates reduce the cost of borrowing for REITs Since many REITs use leverage to finance their real estate acquisitions and developments, cheaper debt translates into higher profitability and potentially higher dividends for investors
Property Values: Falling interest rates often lead to increased demand for real estate, as lower mortgage rates make buying properties more affordable. This demand can drive up property values, benefiting REITs through capital appreciation of their assets.

Falling interest rates create a unique environment for investors to find value in long-term government bonds and REITs Long-term government bonds benefit from price appreciation due to their inverse relationship with interest rates, providing a relatively safe investment with potential capital gains On the other hand, REITs offer high dividend yields, lower borrowing costs, and the potential for property value appreciation, making them an attractive option for income-seeking investors.
By strategically allocating resources to these investment vehicles, investors can ensure that their portfolios remain resilient and capable of generating desirable returns As always, it's crucial to conduct thorough research and consider individual risk tolerance and investment goals before making any investment decisions

"5th of August: A market correction?"
On Monday, August 5th, global stock markets experienced one of their worst days in years, as indices across the United States, Europe, and Japan plummeted on both Friday and Monday before staging a subsequent rebound The S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded their steepest declines since September 2022 The situation was even more dire in Japan, where the Nikkei 225, the index tracking the Tokyo Stock Exchange, suffered its most significant singleday loss since 1987, plunging by 12 5% This dramatic sell-off raises the question:
what were the catalysts behind such a profound shift in market sentiment?
The massive market downturn can be attributed to two primary factors: the Bank of Japan's unexpected interest rate hike and the disappointing US July jobs report.
The US jobs report provides critical insight into the monthly job creation within the economy, effectively measuring how many new positions were added. Concerns had been mounting that the Federal Reserve might have maintained interest rates "too high for too long." The addition of only 114,000 new jobs in July served as a tipping point for many institutional investors, signaling that the US economy might not be as robust as previously thought This apprehension reverberated through global markets when they opened on Monday, amplifying the fear that had originated in the US
The second factor exacerbating the sell-off was the surprise interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan (BoJ) In the week leading up to August 5th, the BoJ raised its key interest rate from the 0%-0 1% range to approximately 0 25% only the second such increase in 17 years. But why did this move have such a profound impact? Many investors had been engaging in a strategy known as the "carry trade," where they borrowed Japanese Yen at low interest rates, converted them into US dollars, and invested in US equities. As the BoJ increased interest rates, the Yen appreciated against the US dollar, and these investors were faced with higher interest payments on their borrowed Yen, with no assurance that their US investments would cover these costs. This scenario triggered significant deleveraging, as investors faced margin calls and were forced to sell their US equities to raise USD, which was then converted back into Yen to repay their loans

INSIDER SPECIAL

After a long awaited break, Insider is back with a new beginning. Yet a new beginning has come about in the form of Indexo, the newest bank in Latvia with a customer centric focus and quality financial products. We interviewed one of the cofounders, Henrik Karmo, to get a better idea of how Indexo became so successful and further glimpse the inner workings of the moving market of pension funds.
“Anyone interested in a job opportunity with us, can reach out
Please introduce yourself and your background in SSE RIGA.
I grew up in Tallinn and started studying at SSE Riga in 1995 after having spent couple of years at Tartu University. During my studies at SSE Riga, I started working at Hansabank in the financial markets department and most of my career I have worked in this field as an entrepreneur and investor I was amongst the first Lithuanian and Estonian students studying at SSER and I really enjoyed my time at the university. The education was/is great and the size of the school made the experience very family like
Two weeks ago Indexo celebrated its 7th birthday, could you have imagined that Indexo would be so successful as it is now?
We definitely imagined that we could be successful, but it was by no means guaranteed Together with the other co-founders and the management we were aware that there is a huge potential in the retirement savings market, and we aimed to be successful It all comes down to understanding how the funds in the pension system compound and estimating how much market share you could get. In Estonia, LHV that I was one of the co-founders of, had also become very successful, so we knew it was possible to compete with the large banks by having a better product and being customer centric.
As I understand you have been made the head of the IPAS Indexo, could you explain what your job currently entails, for those not in the know?
As a CEO of Indexo I am responsible for strategic development of the company and for the pension business. Also as our company is listed and public, we need to communicate with our investor base, inform them about how our business is doing and what to expect from the future. How good is the output of my job depends totally on the team that we at Indexo.
The co-founders of Indexo, Valdis Siksnis & Henrik Karmo
Indexo is quite topical as it was recently granted a banking license, what are your feelings after such an accomplishment?
@We are obviously very happy that we managed to get the full banking license. It has been a long journey that took close to 3 years from the first business plan idea that was discussed with the shareholders Next stage was preparing the company to be listed on the stock exchange to have access to capital markets as banking business needs a lot of regulatory capital to start with Approximately last 15 months of was working with the regulator to make sure that we meet all the requirements to become a bank and to build the IT systems to support our operations It has been a very complex process with a lot of people contributing to this success and we are excited to start the operations very soon and bring positive change to the banking market the same way we did to the pensions market
What kind of person do you think is suited for banking/pension fund management?
Withing finance/banking field there are many diverse roles that require a different skill set and can appeal to different personalities. There are marketing, data, finance, IT and other roles and I think most importantly for anyone starting with us is the company mission and team feeling that we have in the organization. We have currently many SSE Riga graduates working at Indexo. Of former students, who did an undergraduate at our school, Ivete Asare is a CFO, Arturs Roze is head of pension fund management, Erlends Oto Putnins works in the finance team, Emils Ikvilds works wtih data analysis in our pensions team, Matiss Upenieks in IT organization, Peteris Skudra in credit product development. Anyone interested in a job opportunity with us, can reach out to any alumni working at Indexo and hear their personal story At Indexo we try to maintain an open, friendly culture where people joining can grow and assume responsibility over important processes fast

What piece of advice would you give to the current SSE Riga students that you wish you had known at the time yourself?
Follow your interests and find like minded people in a company with the right culture and mission. Once you have found the right mix, stick around, things take time to develop, evolve and mature You will learn about yourself in the process
ADVICE
FROM THE PRESIDENTAL COUPLE
DEAR YEAR 1, TO MAKE YOUR LIFE A BIT EASIER HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR SSE RIGA AND SITUATIONS WHERE THEY CAN BE USED:
MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY
Arrive at school promptly to grab a coffee before lectures, hear the latest gossip to start off your morning and don’t be the ass who disturbs the lectures by arriving late
Don’t start the warm-up too early before the party, your night will end before it starts
If you are the person who starts studying the night before an exam get a good night's sleep the night before.
BE AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME
Go to as many events and activities as possible. You can get amazing new connections and potentially score a nice internship or a job
After a lecture, go straight to the 3rd/5th-floor bathroom, the first-floor one has a queue
Check the schedule to see which auditorium is hosting your lecture and you won’t be the year 1 student in the Financial Economics lecture by accident.
Sign up and go to the organisations and committee interviews.
KNOW YOUR LIMITS
Don’t stand or sit on objects that can’t carry your weight. Sinks and radiator pipes will break
Use AI for studying but don’t try to write the whole assignment with it. Everyone knows you don’t have ‘’underscores the importance of’’, ‘’delving into the intricacies of’’ and “in the dynamic world of” in your vocabulary
Nothing good comes after 4 AM - both going out and writing assignments.
ANDREAS KEPP VICE PRESIDENT

AND FOR THOSE WHO MAY BE INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR PRESIDENCY, HERE ARE MY TIPS FOR THAT:
1. DO NOT put heel down first, it damages your knees.
2. DO NOT form alliances with people except your VP of course.
3. Make sure to resonate with as many people as possible, you and VP combined. That is why you pick a VP from a different demographic than yours. (Not JD)
4. LIMIT your alcohol intake in parties, not only your liver will be happy, but also the people will think of you better, or at the least not worse!
5. Talk to AS MANY people as possible right from the start, but don’t do it in a fake way. Actually understand what the sudent body needs and during the elections highlight your findings.
6. Think of a good promise to give to students, and remember, a promise is something that you plan to live up to!
7. Breathe rhythmically, I usually use a rule of thumb, 3 steps- Inhale 4- exhale.
8. Do not have any failed courses, how do you plan on leading, if reexams are breathing down your neck?
9. Have a well thought out plan for the “aģitācijas nedēļa”, usually it is a good idea to involve alcohol.
10. Do not be a dick to anyone, as that might come back and bite you during the elections.
FILIPS ANDREJEVS PRESIDENT

Best study spots in SSE Riga
As you have thus entered into a world of new academic challenges, we have prepared a comprehensive list of the best spots in or near SSE Riga, where you can study for the numerous up and coming exams.

Thus, if the cafeteria is just a bit much for you, the loud part of the library will be the next best thing Additionally, it provides a whiteboard to torture your colleagues on, a beautiful view from the 7th story, various yearbooks to look through when you just can’t take the numbers, and, lastly, a very useful map on the wall, that, if you indeed study too hard, may help you locate the premises of your home.
Thus, if the cafeteria is just a bit much for you, the loud part of the library will be the next best thing Additionally, it provides a whiteboard to torture your colleagues on, a beautiful view from the 7th story to map out your way back home. Lastly, there are various yearbooks to look through when you just can’t take the numbers, or old Insiders, if you want to know all of the past years' gossips

The cafeteria provides a lovely area, where you can review your notes accompanied by your friends and as well as a delicious meal. It’s also a popular before-exam spot, where people gather and share their infinite knowledge on topics that you definitely didn’t study for 10 minutes before the examination starts Though the infinite social interaction this space holds can be helpful for some, keep in mind that it can get very loud in certain periods of the day. You also might just get slightly overwhelmed from all the knowledge-sharing conversations you’ll have to endure
Besides the priorly mentioned one, the 7th floor provides two more integral and useful spots, where you can suffer, studying for your next exam Firstly, the area just outside the library can be a great private corner to gather with your friends It provides a whiteboard for all the scheming and an infinite supply of H20 Here you can also have lovely conversations with the librarians, if you wish to acquire some new perspectives.Though, be wary that to secure this top notch destination, you should arrive beforehand, otherwise the early risers will outrun you. The third study location on the 7th floor is the quiet part of the library. This works best if silence helps you study, and loud people drive you crazy Here the permaban of speaking loudly is in motion and will protect you.

Additionally, it provides your colleagues on, a beautiful view from the story, various yearbooks to look through when you just can’t take the numbers, and, lastly, a very useful map on the wall, that, if you indeed study too hard, may help you locate the premises of your home
Our neighboring institution, RGSL, also provides a few halfdecent study areas, if everything else is truly full. Firstly, the first floor has multiple couches or seats where you can do some idle tasks Be warned however, as these spots tend to get very cold in the winter time The higher floors provide a few more areas where you can hide away and face all your demons. The couches on each floor are located in cozy corners, giving you a semi-private learning environment Another option for a study spot is renting an empty classroom Here you can have the pleasure of 30 empty seats and multiple blackboards for bad ideas. The downside is that eventually you will go crazy in the room, so use it at your own risk
A popular study spot among SSE Rigans is, of course, the Alumni study room on the main building’s fifth floor. This exquisite space provides many comfy chairs to sit on, huge floor to ceiling whiteboards for your calculations that double as drawing boards. Additionally, there are numerous bean bags that will allow you to secure your mid-day nap or serve as an emergency hotel for especially dire situations Lastly, the windows provide a clear view of the busy street, thus you can sit there and contemplate your existence
If we are talking about study spots, it’s important to note a class favorite of many SSE Riga students, which is the comfort of your own house This allows you to do almost anything from your bed, make food at any convenient time, and, of course, wear any attire of your choice without any judgment or questioning looks

SSE Riga, though small, still has a few more final spots on our list. The lobby couches serve as substitutes for something similar to a bed, if yours is just a little too far away. They also have blankets, so that with the help of your notes, you can almost certainly fall asleep at the earliest convenience. Lastly, it wouldn’t be studying, if we didn’t mention Soros But not just any Soros, we want to highlight the Soros just before an exam If you're one of the many lucky ones that get to experience the pleasures of writing an exam in the large auditorium, you will likely also experience the preexam nervous cramming that happens in the room. We personally don't recommend this as a very viable option for a study spot, but sometimes and in some exams, luck and a 10 minute study session in Soros is the only and best way to go.
Have fun this year studying in all of the above mentioned spots, to learn which is the right one for you!

ELON MUSK - FAUX FREE SPEECH
ACTIVISM
Article by Kārlis Šadris Design by Katrīna Zingule
Twitter used to be my favorite and most used social media platform Of course it had its flaws of constant arguing, complaining (especially on Latvian Twitter), and an information bubble that the platform made around its users In the past 2 years, however, I have found myself using what is now known as X less and less, owing to what I see as decreasing quality of content and less and less funny or interesting media. This has coincided with Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter, and in this article I will take you along on a journey to see
what has gone wrong during Musk's tenure,
focusing largely on his fight for (or against) free speech
Elon Musk
is a man who needs little to no introduction. One of the richest men in the world, the CEO of one of the most important companies in the automotive industry, a savvy businessman and engineer that has ventured into various fields, mostly very successfully. There is rarely a moment where Elon is not in some way in the public eye or being talked about in various forms of media No doubt a genius, Musk has also gathered quite a large ride-or-die fanbase through his embracing of internet culture, outspokenness about political issues, and various other displays of his personality
Yet it is his purchase of X, formerly known as Twitter, which was finalized on October 28, 2022, that has seen his following increase exponentially in recent years

Musk initially initiated the purchase in April of that same year, stating that he intends to make it an “everything app” called X, which he has done to varying levels of success.
The purchase ended up costing Musk a whopping 44 billion USD, a gargantuan sum, which he may not like to admit was a massive overpay of about 20 million USD, according to Forbes magazine
One of Musk's main intentions for buying Twitter was to promote free speech, which he thought was under threat given the silencing of various fringe political movements, the banning of controversial figures like Donald Trump and Jordan Peterson, and what he saw as a large left-wing political bias (which has since been disproven multiple times) He even called the social media platform an “accidental far-left information weapon” on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2023, owing to the company's headquarters in San Francisco
Musk has on multiple occasions proved himself as a person who is willing to go to extreme lengths to help society make leaps forward.
This is evident in his work at SpaceX, Tesla, and other business ventures, and Musk saw the overhaul of Twitter as his next step on this journey.
There is a debate to be had about
WHETHER FREE SPEECH WAS EVER UNDER THREAT DURING TWITTER'S PREVIOUS OWNERSHIP,
but Musk immediately went to work after acquiring the company.
He laid off nearly 80% of employees within the first 6 months of ownership and immediately initiated the rebranding to X.
He also aimed to eliminate the large number of bot accounts on the platform, which he has had mixed results of doing

Now onto the main crux of my article, given of course by the title of it.
I will be quite frank about Musk's so-called free speech activism—it is total bullshit.

This is immediately a strawman argument, which does not follow the logical line of argumentation we so desperately try to teach in the Debate Society
Musk says that because Twitter is headquartered in a liberal city San Francisco this means that the management and engineers at Twitter altering the algorithm and deciding what kind of information gets elevated on the platform are infected with the city's way of thinking and using it as a way to promote this political agenda, using it as an information weapon of sorts
Furthermore, there is little to no evidence of a political bias on the platform One might point to the banning of Donald Trump and try to reason that the site is biased, but he was banned according to the terms and conditions of Twitter for spreading misinformation, which he is well known for doing
Despite Musk's claims, Twitter was no cesspool of political agendas, and his whole reasoning was inherently wrong from a political point of view.
Now let us look at another aspect: Many say that
All forms of speech, no matter how offensive, hateful, or flat-out wrong they are, should be allowed to exist in the public flow of information and no opinion should be suppressed.
Twitter, under the previous ownership, was known for suspending or banning people for the use of racial or other slurs, hate speech, and the spreading of misinformation Musk might not have said this in literal terms, but it is clear from his actions that he was not a fan of this Usage of racial slurs soared in the immediate aftermath of Musk's purchase of Twitter, but this still goes along with the thinking that no speech, no matter how unethical, should be silenced.
2
Elon abiding by this line of reasoning falls apart when one starts looking at a couple of Elon's actions
Firstly, the treatment of his own account Shortly after his takeover, Elon grew frustrated with his tweets not having the same amount of reach as other popular accounts on the platform, like the ones of U S President Joe Biden or former U S President Barack Obama To deal with this, Musk, according to various reports, made X's engineers alter the algorithm to artificially boost Musk's tweets and make them get more reach Not very free speech of the free speech guy.
Secondly, Musk controversially got rid of the blue checkmarks, which used to certify the legitimacy of famous or widely known people's accounts, in favor of a subscription-based model called Twitter Blue (now X Premium) This allowed nearly anyone to buy this service and get the blue checkmark next to their account, which many celebrities and publicly known people refused to do, leading to situations where bot account managers and people impersonating other people could get the blue checkmark and appear like the real deal Again, not so great
3
Thirdly, Musk then uses his newfound power to silence people that criticize him or talk about things he doesn't like He banned journalists that criticized him, declared the word “cisgender” a slur and threatened to ban people who use it too much, banned people for fighting against making people pay for blue checkmarks, and various other instances of misusing the power he had purchased. Musk simply is not doing what he says he is.
I do believe Musk thinks he is doing the right thing, and some of the things he has done on the platform are positive
He popularized Community Notes, a feature on the platform that fights with misinformation by letting people from X's community point out misinformation, and when they do so, it shows under the tweet that contains said misinformation in it (although he did not like it when he himself got community noted).

Musk set out to do a thing he believes is right, but for the wrong reasons; he had flawed reasoning for why Twitter needed to be “saved” and has mostly done harm to free speech while trying to fight for it.
He might be blinded by his power and think he can do no wrong; that is where I see the larger issue here
People with that much influence and wealth rarely listen to others, and I believe it would do h im a lot of good if he started doing so.
Free speech
is a topic there is a lot of debate to be had about and is not completely cut and dry; quite the opposite, it is quite tricky
Should there be a place for absolutely all opinions?
Should all people be allowed to say whatever they want, no matter who they hurt?
I advise you to make your own judgments regarding this topic and look further into all aspects mentioned I thank you for your time, dear reader.
I think each person needs to make their own judgment regarding that, but one thing is for sure: you do not promote free speech the way Elon Musk has been trying to do it.

SURVIVING
as a less priviliged STUDENT in a less diverse COMMUNITY

Starting university is a significant milestone, full of new experiences and opportunities However, for students coming from vulnerable social groups - less financially privileged, international students, national and other minorities - this transition can come with unique challenges I aim to yap a bit more on it and try to provide practical advice to help these students thrive in their new academic environment
DEALING WITH THE RICH

In both cases you utilize your energy but it is better to put Your effort in something that
will get you to success Having said that, I will try to give more realistic pieces of advice This one is probably not relevant at the moment you read this but do look for affordable housing options (this is more than possible in Riga, even in good districts) Take advantage of low-cost meals at local canteens or cook at home – many students do that

Being in the company of rich students may tempt you to follow their habits, such as going to Narvesen, frequenting coffee shops, going to bars every Friday, smoking e-cigarettes, including to build new friendships However, remember that friendship cannot be bought Yes, you should meet new people and hang out together There are more affordable options for that: having a good meal, so that you don’t have to buy expensive snacks; having a good sleep or drinking coffee at home; studying in the library or any other our university’s studying areas; limiting smoking or not even starting doing it; coming to bars prepared by drinking alcohol at home and opting for more affordable options, i e , beer or vodka depending on your goals instead of wine or Jager (disclaimer: more affordable does not mean cheap and of poor quality) When going for groceries, take only things that you really need (e g , limit buying expensive snacks and soft drinks) and in the amount that you exactly need More than that, you should opt for other types of leisure activities - walking in parks, joining running clubs, visiting free museums, attending other free city events (they often happen in Riga), joining NGOs, and many others. On top of that, stay in touch with your ex-classmates and diversify your social network
Last but not least, find your support group Don't find people for your social image (based on their status, wealth, or whether they are cool) Connect with people who share your values Not the rich with whom you can have fancy avocado toasts for breakfast. These genuine relationships will make your life better and you will get the energy from these friendships, not waste it on them.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Another vulnerable group of people is international students, especially from non-EU countries Adjusting to a new culture can be challenging Especially when international students are the minority and are separated within each other.
This has already become a strong pattern that students make friends with the ones they speak the same language with Try this But at the same time try to talk to other international students This might help you to adapt, as well as build
a more diverse network Another advice – engage with student life here and try to spend more time at school: study in the library, join student organizations, attend and be active in their meetings and team building events
“Everything is in context < > You think you just fell off a coconut tree? You exist in the context!
Of all in which you live and what came before you ” Kamala Harris

Navigating legal and immigration matters is another critical aspect Some of my friends had some issues The only advice I can give – reach out to senior year students and don’t be afraid to ask questions, write emails and even call the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs. They do help but you have to be assertive if you can’t deal with your problems
Another thing you will come across is searching for your first internship. Remember that your first position does not define your value Your work experience is limited, it is your first search for a real job This is especially challenging for international students because they are not in their own environment and they don't speak the local language Therefore, don't be discouraged by the results Experience will come as you keep going
GENERAL ADVICE

Regardless of your background, maintaining mental health is crucial – eat well, get enough sleep, exercise regularly, have sex and maintain social connections Also do use counseling services (we have an amazing school counselor) or seek help from your close friends when needed, practice self-care Balancing academics and social life is essential; set realistic goals and manage your time wisely
Belonging to a vulnerable social group is difficult However, recognizing and accepting that you are vulnerable and trying to adapt to this world is already powerful. You got into this school - this is already a huge achievement. Be proud of it – other vulnerable social groups are not so lucky Don’t let your fears or problems or thoughts that someone else is more privileged and has more opportunities than you stop you from working hard and achieving your goals Don’t deny yourself and devalue yourself As Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga said: “Let us be proud of what has already been achieved, let us be honest in assessing what remains to be achieved! But let's never sink into negativity and hopelessness because in doing so we would deny < … > ourselves”.

Remember, empathy, kindness, and understanding are the foundation of a supportive and inclusive community. Welcome to this new chapter of your life, and may it be filled with learning, growth, and wonderful experiences!

If you can survive the climb to the 5th floor or do not die of old age by the time the elevator arrives, one of the best places to take a nap is on the beanbags in the Alumni Study Room. This is especially true if you get lucky enough that there is not a very loud group of people pretending to study, or if you have brought your noise-cancelling earphones with you. Be aware that a nap longer than 40 minutes on the b eanbags will give you a backache if you are over the ripe old age of 20 9/10

Taking a nap in Soros is the prime example of multitasking: being proud of yourself for attending the lecture while getting a decent sleep. The place where you sit is key I recommend choosing the rows just before the last one, as you are far enough from the lecturer but not as suspicious as being in the last row The chairs could be a bit more comfortable, but if you are tired enough, they should do, especially if the lights are turned off in the last rows 6/10
These sofas are one of the few places where you can fully lay down, but the lobby tends to be the most crowded place in SSE If you are brave enough to face the possibility of others taking a picture of your ugliest sleeping face, it is quite a decent choice for a nap Plus points for the blankets and pillows, but the rating tends to be lower for taller people, as the sofas cannot accommodate their long toes

While at first it might seem like one of the worst places to take a nap, the courtyard offers several admirable features A nap there is refreshing and good for your health, as you can breathe fresh air instead of a watermelonflavoured one The chairs are not too comfortable, but when you have had one too many dances, or one too many of anything else, they provide you with the best rest possible. The most courageous ones will even take advantage of the courtyard during the winter and take a swim in the snow after their nap.

LSilent part
If you decide to lock in for your studies and go to the silent part of the SSE library, you may feel tempted to take a nap there, as everything around you is so quiet However, you should be aware that the chairs are quite uncomfortable, and you will upset at least two of your schoolmates by making a chair bed out of two other chairs Another option is cuddling up on the floor with a copy of “Thinking, Fast and Sl ow,” which you have already or will become close with during the Economic and Consumer Behaviour course. However, the level of comfort really depends on your relationship with the book you choose.
3/10
Loud part
Do not be fooled by the sofas in the “loud” part of the library; they are neither comfortable nor long enough to qualify as a good nap spot. Even when studying, I sincerely suggest choosing the chairs for your own health and happiness. The only redeeming feature of the sofas is the great view of the Klusais Centrs’ roofs.

The harmony of parts
An essay on the loneliness of cities
by Kārlis A. Strante

The factory of noise churns. Its shriveled gears screech, and you, just another tick, another crack, another little decibel to the noise.
I guess it helps to be part of a harmony of ticks, a harmony of parts.
Iam not an international student. pissssssssRegardless of that, I moved here pissssssssfrom the suburbs to the city, pisssssssysettling in an apartement with my pisssssssypartner. I have found the move rather alarming as it has been very isolating, combined with the stresses of university and my rather inept social skills, I feel more than ever lonely, in a city of 700 thousand people Therefore I ask, is this relevant to international students here and if yes, what is the key to feel relevant, to feel needed.
A study by Kangning Zhang et al (2023) did a qualitative study on the loneliness of international students in the UK, understaing why do international students feel lonely as well as finding that 33% of international students rated themselves as moderetly lonely Though a UK study might no seem relevant to SSER, I believe, due to studies being carried out in english and the large international minority at our school, it still is relevant to our institution The primary finding being that the worst of the consequences of loneliness were the social confusion of a new environement This means that students did not feel comfortable approaching new people in the fears of it somehow conflicting with the social environment they are in This is excacerbated by the nature of cities as well as student accomidation which is often cramped and lacking social spaces near by, such as bars, restaurants, gyms etc. (University of Sidney, 2023).
In looking for the solution to this it is important to point out the fact that this is a unuiversal experience for many. Although the way you might feel loneliness is particular to you, it is has the same causes for everyone else and the best way to “cure” it is the forging of new relationships. But how?
First, you can brute force it, by going up to people and chatting, though this is not always an option or for that matter, easy. Second, and which I think is far more attractive to an introvert is engaging in outside activities, this means signing up for clubs, sports activities or other activities outside of a university context
This mainly follows the proximity principle, simply meaning that by being close to people over and over again the probability o fan inter-personal relationship forming is greatly increased This has mainly worked for me since joining organisations has allowed me to be in proximity to people that might have similar interests

Lastly, if the idea of creating a larger network of people for whatever reason does not appeal to you the ability to be “alone” is one to be considered This is not recommended as social interaction has proven to be central to how humans behave with their environment. (Hari, 2015) This, therefore, requires that you embrace the environment you are living in This can be achieved through meditation or mindfulness. meditation describes the act of training ones attention towards themselves going hand in hand with mindfulness which calls for the examination of ones inner world - thoughts, feelings, biases, values etc. Through these methods one can becom quite content in living alone, especially in urban environments as well as allowing for more objective thought.
To conclude, I am not alone, but when I am and being suffocated by the urbanism, I try to find within myself my own sound and perhaps share it with others in a harmony.

HOW TO HOW TO SPEND YOUR SPEND YOUR BREAKS AT BREAKS AT SSE RIGA SSE RIGA
Dear Y1s, and everyone else reading this stellar guide, even though we might have days filled with lectures, and often any breaks are spent studying, if you ever find yourself having a free moment, and don’t know how to spend it, here are some suggestions that any SSE student should try at least once
3
4 Go to narvesen
Don’t hesitate to try out some of their toasts and also a redbull as a midday pick-me-up, because chances are you will want to get out of SSE premises.
2
1 Confer with coursemates
Write gossips
It’s the start of the year so take an interest in your coursemates; and if anyone is being particularly annoying during the lectures don’t hesitate to confront them in the gossips.
5 Go to boozy
Some suggestions on what to buy but don’t forget your id: Redbull because it’s cheaper than in the sse fridge, 6 pack of Coronas, Salt pods because they are the cheapest there.
You will soon find out that behind the serious finance bro front, people have much more to offer, and one of the best ways to find that out is by simply talking to your course mates or anyone else who is willing
Sit on the couch and people watch
One might say that the couches in the SSE lobby are legendary. Why? They have the best view of the entire lobby, therefore, find a friend or simply sit there alone, and observe the many different kinds of individuals that wander in the lobby.
6 Stand outside and watch the endless tourist groups
Chances are someone is going to ask you for directions or will ask if this is the SSE building.
7 Feel the Klusais Centrs vibe and go to a nearby cafe
Our suggestions: boo the burger Foodbox (if you want to eat the best kebab in Riga) All cappuccino (a great coffee shop, however, more on the expensive side)
A bit outside of KC and a hidden gem: Stockpot (a great and affordable lunch spot if you don’t mind a bit of spicy in your food)
8
9
10
Have
a
conversation with Agija
She is the lady who serves the best portions at Better cafe, and if nearby you happen to notice a serious man with a beard on his phone, take notice, he is the real MVP of the cafe
Enjoy the wonderful food selection that Better cafe offers
Our suggestions: chicken kotlete with pea and carrot sautejums, chicken kotlete with štovēti kāposti, Theme day specials (whatever it might be - lasagna, wok, burger, or skābētie gurķi).
Observe the plethora of humans in the SSE lobby and play “smash or pass”
Whilst not the most “ethical” activity, it is nonetheless a fun way to relax and forget about an upcoming exam
15
Do some sports activities
If you happen to have already gathered a group of likeminded people, stop by the foosball table, if the legend R.J. has not occupied it already, play a game.
11
Try the chocolate covered waffle in the SSE fridge
But leave some for me too, because one might argue that it is one of the best kept secrets of SSE until now.
12
Go to the park and sunbathe
But this sadly works only during spring as we are in a semi-arctic country.
13
Join a smoker conversation outside
Because there is a non-zero probablity that they know all the juice and the hottest gossips before they are recorded in the Insider gossip sheet.
14
Go to the library and talk to our dearest librarians M.P. and M. Š.
But only after 5pm, however, if you happen to stop by earlier in the day, talk to the sweetest Dace, it’s a conversation worth your while
16
Improve our environment
If you notice something broken or not up to the SSE standards (Soros table or something else) don’t hesitate to consult our ConCom chief D.K.D. himself.
The Law of the Jungle
Welcome to the Jungle Guide your ultimate map to navigating this wild adventure, packed with essential rules, must-see spots, and crucial tips. So, what are the laws of the jungle? First, there are no laws! Second, this code I am about to break down for you is more what you would call “guidelines” than actual rules.

1While the jungle’s code of conduct is extensive, let’s focus on the rules that can come in handy First and foremost - “The strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.” There are a lot of words in there, so to put it simply, - Creating a strong, supportive network of friends, study groups, and mentors helps you to overcome challenges, succeed academically, and make the most of the journey You’ll quickly get to know your coursemates as you collaborate on team projects and various assignments So, don’t miss the chance to find a mentor and become a mentee - it could be an opportunity you won't want to miss! Additionally, you can always enter the pack of your choice - committees and organizations - and become a member of a family within a family, with their traditions to follow and, of course, family gatherings - team buildings - to attend.

It can get really hot in the jungle, so remember this vital rule: “Drink plenty, but never too much.” I’ll leave your drink of choice to your imagination Anyway, water is privileged just kidding! You can usually find it around the "Fountain of Youth" or, more likely, the nearest water cooler where you can always (almost always) refill your supply. Speaking of water at SSE Riga, there's something else worth mentioning Much like the flooded rainforests in jungle regions, the SSE Riga lobby floor can unexpectedly turn into a bit of a flood zone just as it did during last year's Halloween party But no worries! Floods in flooded forests occur when rivers rise, tides roll in, or heavy rain falls or, in our case, when someone carelessly jumps on the radiators and floods the entire lobby
It might be a bit confusing to navigate the university at first, but you’ll adjust quickly. Remember that some places in the jungle such as temples and ruins might have deep cultural, spiritual, and historical meanings Have you heard of the Library of Alexandria? SSE Riga has its own version of a sacred spot - the library, filled with scrolls and manuscripts, where wisdom is kept and silence is treasured.

3

You’ll experience various phases here and discover aspects of yourself you never knew existed Therefore, be open to explore new things and take risks Try your hand at writing, organizing events, or engaging in charity work or push yourself to speak up, join discussions, and debate different topics Just give it a try, and opportunities will follow. In essence, life here is fantastic so make sure to savor every moment and enjoy the ride!
Between the lectures and survival seminars led by the Lords of the Jungle, you’ll need a place to recharge and connect with fellow students The go-to spot for this is, of course, the lobby and canteen Additionally, you can always take a 15-minute stroll along the "Smoke Trail” right in front of university. Just be cautious your alertness might fade, and your brainpower could take a hit.
Little Note:
If at any point during your studies you find yourself crying, struggling to sleep, overwhelmed with anxiety and workload, feeling drained, or going through a phase without joy and proper rest know that it's okay. It happens to all of us, even to the most cheerful and experienced explorers of the jungle So, it's completely okay and even highly encouraged to ask for help and support

Wheretfdo my whiteNike socks go?
Article by Daniels Krists Dzirnieks
White Nike socks. Those small yet essential garments that warm our feet, add absolutely no colour to our fits, and somewhat protect our shoes from sweat. Yet, they have a peculiar little habit of vanishing without a trace. Where do they go? It's a question that has puzzled me for a couple of years, sparking a range of theories, and making me buy more pairs.
Another one of the most common explanations is the theory which suggests that our washing machines and dryers contain tiny wormholes or black holes that socks occasionally slip through, disappearing into another dimension.

Of course, one of the most common explanations is leaving them behind somewhere, usually after a workout or some sort of activity that requires you to change your socks, and while it's basic, it's one that makes the most sense. It also occurs when one is washing their clothes, as when that person takes them out to dry, a sock is bound to drop from that heap.
It
then has its own new destination, either behind some cupboard or sofa, for it to be never found again.
Design by Katrīna Zingule
A more pragmatic take on this is the idea that socks simply get lost in the laundry process. Washing machines, especially the toploading models, can sometimes trap socks between its compartments Front-loading machines are not exempt from this phenomenon - as socks can get caught in the rubber door seal or even slip through gaps, ending up in the machine's drainage system. Dryers are also known for this, as small socks might fall into lint traps, where they are effectively hidden from view.
Then there's the matter of household dynamics.
In homes with multiple family members, socks can get mixed up or "accidentally" appropriated by mistake. For example, with full honesty, I can say that sometimes, I take my brother's socks, and vice versa. Then there's also pets, or dogs in particular, who are notorious for their love of chewing on or hiding socks, only contributing further to the mysterious disappearances of these socks.

Digging deeper into this, a scientific study conducted in the UK aimed to quantify the phenomenon and Researchers found that
the average household loses around 1.3 socks per person per month, amounting to over 15 socks a year.
Thus, it makes you wonder, what if Nike themselves create socks that go AWOL.
The mystery of the disappearing socks remains partially unsolved, adding a touch of intrigue to the otherwise mundane routine of laundry. Whether it's a result of mechanical mishaps, household dynamics and habits, or perhaps a scheme by a large corporation, one thing is certain - the search for that one missing white Nike sock will continue to baffle me, one laundry day at a time.
STUDY PARTY HARD HARDER
Article by: Renārs Ruģelis & Oskars Valdis Kalnozols
As a newcomer, you have a lot of questions and a lot of things you don’t even know that you should question about SSE, thus we are here to give a hand in your onboarding process, and to reassure you that all will be good Of utmost importance is your experience while here, so sit down, open your chakras, and let us lead you through some initial pointers

Ensuring that the three, and potentially any additional years, that you spend here at SSE Riga are filled with a variety of experiences is completely in your hands You have to make the choice yourself, decide what you want to get out of this establishment, how you ’ re going to do it, and why The choices in your hands today are distinct, but they can and will cross paths in the future, there’s no escaping it So for now, just make a mental image for yourself – do you want to be an academic weapon who is always top scoring, do you want to be a full time alcoholic, or do you want to be the best of both worlds – it’s all up to you
As you may gather from the title, we personally align ourselves as centrists in this socio-academic game; we want to show you why this is the path through which you will get the most out of SSE, and how to position yourself from day one
The why?
Life is not about receiving the biggest paycheck possible, or having the most friends; only the chosen minority can sustain themselves for the long-term while being at either polar opposite. Mixing and matching these values is how you get to live your life to the fullest, and you can definitely imagine that this philosophy can be attributed to all actions. Your time at SSE is a strong parallel to this, and you need to understand the true value of studying here beyond the name of the establishment It is both about the quality of education you receive, and the possibilities for networking, being it platonic, professional, or romantic. Through the philosophy of Study hard, Party harder™ you can position yourself to reach this goldilocks solution to life

Design by: Lauma Simsone

The what?
The teachings of Study hard, Party harder™ outline how to stay on top of the academic side for the next three years of your life, as well as the social perspective. Focusing only on one attribute, leads you to only one of the results, giving importance to both studying and partying will allow you to capitalize on the whole spectrum of outcomes that are possible for you
The how?
Possibly the most important section of this article is how to actually achieve this balance in your life Before we start to explain how to achieve this, you must first understand that this is not something that you do for one day, or feel the effects immediately. This is an exercise to help keep your brain rot at bay, as there will be no instant gratification It is a process that takes time, and the fruits from your efforts will gradually begin appearing throughout your stay here It is a focus on balance of these aspects in life, as to reduce the inevitable burn out you will once face. It is a motivation to keep yourself disciplined through the hardest periods, knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Studying
Half-assing your efforts, mixing them with unnecessary distractions, will lead to your result being identical to your efforts. Your behavior towards studying must be unwavering, you must quantify what it is that you want to achieve with the task at your hands At this point, don’t position yourself to overachieve, you will burn out unless the only important value in your life is always being the top scorer Be realistic with who you are. Succeeding at SSE Riga is as easy as 1+1, as long as you can define what success means for you. If success for you means passing all your exams, then you are in luck A deliberate mindset and actions towards passing will always allow you to keep pace with the never ending march of new responsibilities here. If you can combine a good study schedule, determined efforts, and develop a discipline for this, viss saies.
Partying

Without one, you can’t have the other. From face value it may not seem like it, but without the parties the paper that you receive upon graduation would be worth less. There’s no other occasion which allows you to emit all the bullshit that has been slowly accumulating within you, and adding to it the fact that it is a collective emotion, adds to the point that we are trying to make Parties at SSE Riga represent the best team building imaginable, it is how separate students within a class become one, and how separate classes, current and former, become the SSE Riga community as a whole. With the necessary liquid courage, you can accidentally find friends that will last you your lifetime, get to know soonto-be and already graduates, and most importantly do shit that you will definitely regret for the next week While the last point might sound like something you want to avoid, it often is the best catalyst for becoming a part of the community. If you want to make sure that you are integral to the community, don’t shy away from getting shitfaced and having the time of your life.
Overall
The religion of Study hard, Party harder™ is very simple, and a surefire way to make these three years less miserable Both from the perspective of not being stressed about deadlines, and grades Most importantly, it will ensure that you place yourself within an environment of friends whenever you are at Strelnieku iela 4a
Now we hope that you have understood one of the options that you can choose as a mindset. We hope that our message has carried over to you, however whether it did or did not, we wish to share some extra tips with you,
Exam traditions
While this may stray from the advice we have given up to this point, this serves as an example of what not to do In general exam traditions are like a loop that goes on repeat until you graduate (hopefully in 3 years, not so much because of FE about which you will hear horror stories, but mostly because you will need god to decide that you are ethical enough to get a pass in ethics) One of the worst and most popular loops is delaying preparation until three days before an exam, inducing sleepless nights and countless red bulls Wherein comes the exam day itself, where you have no other choice as to say to yourself “p**** saies”. As the exam starts there will always be someone with either calculator or computer problems, so remember to check your calculator and update your respondus prior to the exam. If it is a two part exam and you know that you are cooked already do not lose hope, because Boozie is just a 2 minute walk away with all kinds of brain enhancing liquid supplements that will give you the courage to absolutely smash the second part and get that well deserved pass. No matter how the exam goes you need to remember the most important tradition - rewarding yourself with your favorite beverage in good company.
Two to three weeks after the fact, grades are published and at this point you might think “I will never ever start preparing for the exam 3 days prior”, but that's the biggest lie that is told at SSE (except for “I am never drinking again”), because by the time the next exam comes you will find yourself in the same exact place and the loop will start all over again. But do not worry because you now are an SSE Rigan and you are built different.
Preparation strategies

Obviously, everyone has their own best strategies to study and prepare for the exams. But the universal truth is that nothing helps you more than a shit load of confidence and not giving up even if you have only one day left and you still do not understand 99% of the course material. Sometimes, even if you know that you haven’t prepared enough for an exam, it is worth telling yourself that the higher power you believe in, will reward you just because Removing stress from the exam process is one of the key ways to think clearly and logically, which should lead to an easy pass for some courses.
For the preparation we suggest that you plan time for solving previous years exams and make it your priority if you have only a couple of hours left until the exam It is of course good to know, but you won't get far if you do not know how to apply in practical tasks in the exam since usually the largest part of points are for quantitative tasks You must understand that an exam is not a test of your knowledge of the theory or logic behind a subject, it is a test of how well you know how to solve the problems that a lecturer expects you to solve.
If you do have enough time then summaries, flash cards, and seminar tasks are a great way to guarantee yourself a better chance in the exam. The key thing in preparation is to understand that you are no longer in highschool and the majority of exams won't be passable if you only arrive to lectures and study for an hour or two. Prior to the exam lock in, spend some time in the library and you will be fine when the exam time comes
P.S. Praying to God and lighting up a candle in a church is also an option especially useful when you haven't studied at all.

R R (y3) being blackout drunk and keeping conversations, such a legend!!
E.A.Z. seized the opportunity when her socalled bestie aka sports com chief was comletely wasted. She boldly made out with him right in the middle of the dance floor. He was so out of it that he didn't even realize when he ended up in a car with her
K.M. came up to every single person at the graduation party and told that she was single
Whoever decided it would be “fun” to give some random pill to a Y3… karma is coming for you
shoutout to "banned pleasure". this was indeed the only pleasure at the party
2 Estonians were spotted engaging in a charming conversation on a bench for the entire party

M. had quite an adventure in graduation party, waking up in random train station in the middle of nowhere
Guess what - the usual forbidden couple once again spotted on the dance floor you could feel the tension from the other side of the room. I guess they cannot have enough of each other.
If you give LKS a salt pod, she will invite you to her new apartment

y1 estonians you better bring it this year
we could get along if your middle name is confidence
Some people find love, even though failing some exams might lead to travels in correlation with sunsets at the end of the day honestly it is not as though Estonia is Spain and exchange should be great but does it have anything to do with a cold one from Labietis or waking up at 8am leading to some not so great or one might even say precarious trip for soul searching
Throughout the year, there are many magical nights to be met and it is up to your discretion to experience them On occasion, these magical nights can bring out your deepest darkest secrets, or even your alter-self. Thus, this is the story of SSE Riga's hidden hound being revealed, on the most magical nights of all, the summer solsti ce. Such was the experience of one notorious student, some may call him, a visionary. On this occasion, the secretive gentleman revealed his inner gem, his soul, and his passion, of projecting all the leading qualities of the doberman, shepherd, and husky that he had at heart He had been living a secret life for years, but the effect of masterfully brewed moonshine, brought his life-long toil to no avail. Through howls under the full moon, heard for miles on, the illustrious culmination of the magical night and the grand reveal of the hound among us, was accomplished.
Never been to NCC, never will.

DT y2 looked submissive and breedable.. EAZ is one lucky girl
A girl made out with two guys in one night

DKD (Y2) and BE (Y2) found a spark and have been enjoying each other for some time now, honestly I was kind of jealous
The Visionary will go down in history as one of the greatest to ever represent our school. Once again proved that he is a legend
year1's are scary...
The new y1s party like shit
What's up with the y1s? Seems like some people aren't really showing the team spirit and are dodging tasks. It's kind of sad, especially since this was supposed to be the real test o f becoming a true SSER student
One guy from Y1 participated in 4 naked miles???? Some might say that is a bit insane
Naked mile compadres were very cutesy. Relationship goals fr
Certain y2 poked my eye out on the carry your balls station.
