UNH’s COVID lab has received attention and praise from both state and federal officials. On October 12, Deborah Birx (pictured above right), then the coordinator of the U.S. coronavirus response, and Gov. Chris Sununu (pictured above left) toured the lab with Marc Sedam ’93, UNH vice provost for innovation and new ventures; Kelley Thomas (pictured above center), professor of molecular, cellular and biomedical sciences and scientific director of the lab; and Marian McCord, senior vice provost for research, economic engagement and outreach. Birx praised UNH for “answering the call” and safely opening campus for in-person learning.

New Hampshire senators Jeanne Shaheen ’97H and Maggie Hassan ’93H also applauded UNH’s achievement. Shaheen toured the lab in the fall and called it a “great model” for the country. Hassan took a virtual tour and said she was both proud and impressed.
