Play where you love. Sulphur Springs Country Club About this issue. Hello! If you’ve seen me around the Clubhouse recently and we haven’t met yet, I’m Alex Andrews-Melton (that last bit is still new to me) and I’m the resident Marketing and Media Specialist. As the newest member of the SSCC family I’d first like to say thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome since my start. I truly believe we’re going to do great things together, starting with this Member Newsletter! We’re starting a new tradition with the cover photo and we’d love for you to be a part of it! Send us your photos from member events or just from around the club (email me at media@sulphurspringscc.com) and we’ll choose from member-submissions for the cover.

You’ll also find segments with updates from our department heads, information about upcoming events, and featured amenities available for you to use. Get to know more of your SSCC staff members with this newsletter’s About the Staff section. Each issue will feature a new staff member and you’ll get to know a little more about them and their journey with SSCC. This will be a bi-monthly publication so you’ll find a TON of information about upcoming events, policy changes, and reminders in each issue. With this publication being our first issue of the year, there will also likely be a few recaps here and there as well. That’s all for now, folks. Enjoy!

A Note From Sue

General Manager Update

Another year has come and gone. We have made tremendous progress in 2023. The new building is complete, and it is a beauty. (We need to name it!) The Pro Shop is gorgeous, the Gillis golf collection is unrivaled in NE Texas, the Fitness Center offers brand new equipment (check it out if you haven’t already), and the Par-Tee Bar is available for service to the new building and also to the #1 Tee (beer, grilled food, and soft drinks). Simulators are now fully functional. Oh my, what fun they are. Three bays to play. You can pick the golf course of your choice to play. You can play tournaments or just have family fun. (Archery, soccer, football, baseball, horseshoes, cornhole, or skeet shooting just to name few) Also join the new Winter Golf League. Come find your favorite. We installed shade sails to our pool area, adding both comfort and style. The practice greens and range are a continual success, and Billy (superintendent) continues to produce an exceptional golf course for all to enjoy. The work on the dam is complete, and what a difference it has made to the views. I know we dreaded those trees coming down, but the beautiful view of the course is inspiring. Several events that we brought to you last year, we are bringing back, while adding new activities. Dueling Pianos is already booked. Cocktails with Chris, and Cocktails and Canvas are already added to the calendar. If you have ideas and thoughts, bring them to us. We want something for everyone! To all the new members, welcome! Come out and enjoy your new club. Let us know what you think. Let’s have a great 2024!

Focus on Fitness

Fitness Updates

Emilie Kunco, Fitness Specialist

Welcome to the new year! We’re so excited to have you here. I have lots of ideas for ways to make this section beneficial to you in the upcoming editions, but for now let’s start things off with a few fitness facts: Did you know that starting your day off with a glass of water can help flush toxins, aid digestion, enhance skin appearance and boost your energy levels? HGH (Human Growth Hormone) is crucial in the role of muscle repair and is released while you’re sleeping. Ensuring you get enough sleep will help regulate your protein synthesis. 4 pounds of pressure is removed off of your knees for every 1 pound lost. Join us for a strength training class or step aerobics class to meet those 2024 goals. The schedule for the next couple of the months looks pretty consistent. Our Step Aerobics classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:15AM in the Fitness Center. We also have Strength Class on Wednesdays at 5:30PM in the Fitness Center and on Fridays (except February 2) at 10:30AM. Active Rest & Recovery classes are on Monday, February 12th, & February 26th at 10:00AM. Class times are subject to change so contact me via email (fitness@sulphurspringscc.com) for questions.

We gather for weekly golf playdays on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Laughter-filled table games are known to happen during bad-weather Wednesdays! On the 4th Wednesday of each month, we have a lunchtime meeting. The LGA Championship tournament is in September, with chances for every skill level to win. We’re a busy bunch! Along with other monetary donations to local charitable organizations and support of our own Club’s improvements, you’ll find us hosting events such as the Jan James and In My Closet golf tournaments, ArkLaTex and Christmas parties, and raising funds for our annual scholarship presented to local graduating female high school golfers. Whether you enjoy golf a lot, are a beginner golfer, or just want to be part of a dynamic group of ladies, we invite you to join the LGA. - Ladies Golf Association Board -
