Focus on Fitness: Fitness Updates
Emilie Kunco, Fitness Specialist
Are you tired, rundown, listless? Do you poop out at parties? Are you unpopular? Well, I’m your Vitameatavegamin girl!
-Lucy Ricardo, “I Love Lucy”
You don’t have to take Vitameatavegamin like Lucy suggests; however, if you’re not feeling recovered or refreshed after resting from your most recent workout, you may be suffering from over-training! Yes, working out and being active has its many benefits, i.e., stronger bones, better sleep, improved focus, mood, energy, but you can also over-train your body by not allowing it enough time to recover from the strain you’re putting it through! We all know that working out breaks the muscles down, but remember that they must build back before being torn down again Over-training can cause an over-production of cortisol (the body’s stress hormone) and contributes to a state of chronic stress in the body, which may disrupt your microbiome and cause additional hormonal imbalances You may feel overly fatigued, muscles will be extremely sore, have excessive sweating, and overheat easily.
Ensuring that you’re allowing yourself enough time to fully recover from your workouts will profit you more in the long run! You can do this by adding light resistance training, walking, yoga, and other forms of relaxing movements to your routine. With this, I’d like to make you all aware of my new certifications that are available! Since the middle of January, I have been working on courses through NCI (Nutritional Coaching Institute) and have completed my Level 1 Nutrition, Gut Health, and Stress and Hormone classes It has been a learning experience for sure, but I cannot wait to truly help you all on your journey with my newly obtained knowledge!
