TRACY TROTTER Hello everyone!!! I hope this newsletter finds you safe and healthy. Things here at the Marian Home and Village are wonderful. We have been having a lot of visitors, activities and outings for our residents and tenants.

Jody Lennon, DON has been with the Marian Home since 1992, taking off only a year to work for Dr. Shelly and then returning to the Marian Home. She has held many positions beginning in 1992 with dietary and then moving to the nursing department, working as a CNA, LPN Charge Nurse, RN Charge Nurse and now as Director of Nursing. She has overseen admissions and restorative nursing prior to becoming DON. Jody demonstrates the epitome of loyalty to the Marian Home. She is a true leader and makes decisions based on what is best for our residents and staff. She tirelessly works to make sure our residents have the best care. In fact, most often we have to tell her to take some time off because she is so passionate about her career. I want to congratulate her on her many years of service and dedication.

We are truly a better place with Jody working with us.

Keep in mind, you can change your loved one’s monthly payments to have it automatically taken out! I pull payments on the 7th of every month,

if the 7th falls on a weekend or holiday, it then comes out on the following business day. If you choose to go with the automatic withdrawal, I will still send you an invoice the first day of the month to give you time to review it before the payment is pulled.

Maintenance and Transportation | Travis Filloon The Maintenance & Transportation Department is happy to share that (at this moment) all systems are “GO”; we are ready to react to whatever weather Mother Nature sends our way. Dependable cooling (or heat) is readily available whenever our tenants & residents desire.

As I write this brief article for the July Newsletter, it has only been a few days since Summer officially (June 21,2022) began and we have already dealt with several days of “excessive” heat with temperatures in the mid to upper 90 ‘s with some humidity!

Our Marian Home maintenance crew (of 2) are constantly monitoring the temperatures and humidity throughout the nursing facility to ensure that a comfortable environment is maintained.

In the Marian Village (independent living areas), we monitor the temperatures and humidity daily in the “public” areas but only check or respond to calls when requested by the tenants or their family members. The Village tenants have personal control (via a thermostat) of just how warm or cool they prefer.

If you or your family members are unsure of when or how to operate the temperature controls in their apartment please contact the maintenance department or me directly.

PS- A slight delay has occurred but we still expect that the project to rejuvenate the “outdoor” courtyard in the Marian Village will have begun by the time you read this.

Summer continues to be here, with the warmer temperatures and longer days. I do enjoy the longer days and being able to spend time outside. July is National Ice Cream month, so I think we all need to enjoy as much ice cream as we can this month. Some of my favorites would be a Black Raspberry Malt, or a Hot Carmel- Green Apple Sundae, but honestly anything would work!! Continue to enjoy the summer and if you have any questions that I can help you with please feel free to contact me.

Nutritional Supplements As a dietitian I regularly recommend a liquid supplement for residents to help improve body weight and health. A liquid supplement, like Ensure, is high in calories, protein, and vitamins.

Depending on a resident's health and appetite, these supplements are added to help maintain weight, improve protein stores, or to help heal wounds.

Dietician | Rachel Pederson

I am always reviewing weights, intake patterns and lab work to determine if a supplement is needed for an individual. I also look at snacks and other protein foods to add to the meal plan. As an individual's health improves and declines, so does intake and weights.

Supplements are added and decreased regularly to help maintain this balance.

If you have questions about nutritional supplements or if you feel your loved one might benefit from additional snacks or a liquid supplement, I would love to discuss this with you. When you eat well, you feel better, and you get stronger. This is always my goal for each resident.

Housekeeping | Tracey Brownfield April 19, 1775 was the start of the American Revolution.

On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress voted to be independent from Britain.

On July 4, 1776, Congress approved a final draft of the Declaration July 8, 1776 the first public reading took place, and on August 2, 1776 it was officially signed It was then decided that every year on July 4 that there should be a celebration by those who had a hand in writing the declaration, they wanted fireworks, games and fun for everyone.

Almost a century later in 1870 Congress declared the Fourth of July to be a National Holiday.

As July rolls in we think of family, concerts, picnics, and of course grilling out. July is also when we received our independence. This is when we celebrate the birth of American Independence. We will have the Bare Bones Band coming at the end of July for an outside concert (weather permitting of course). We will be going outside in groups more, enjoying Iced Tea and Lemonade on our patio. Some evenings we will have a fire in our fire pit with and smores. July is also ice-cream month so on a hot summer day in July, we will have ice cream in a variety of ways and make a couple trips to the Snack Shack. Your loved ones look forward to fun adventures and enjoy trying new things. July is a great month to let our creative minds work! If anyone has ideas that you would like us to try, Pam and I are always open to suggestions. We enjoy learning together with your loved ones.
