The SRUC School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences offers programmes in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Nursing, and specialist postgraduate study, as well as training for the wider veterinary team. The School also supports careers across animalrelated industries, with courses in areas such as Animal Science, Equine Science, Animal Care, and animal-related business and research — providing the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a growing, evolving sector.

Programmes and study pathways are offered at our SRUC campuses across Scotland, this offers an innovative and unique way of learning that brings different professions together.

SRUC’s teaching is supported by an internationally recognised team of animal and veterinary scientists, with a national network of veterinary hubs. Our research is ranked as the best in the UK, and our Consulting offices give us unparalleled links to real rural business.

Our programmes combine practical experience with teaching across different subject areas, so students leave with the confidence to adapt, problem-solve, and work well with others. Whether you want to work with animals, support the wider veterinary field, or make a difference in the rural economy, SRUC gives you the foundation to build a strong, future-ready career.

The SRUC School of Natural and Social Sciences brings together experts in natural sciences (like ecology, agriculture, and environmental science) with social sciences (such as economics, policy analysis, and rural business management), which allows us to solve real-world challenges.

Whether it’s growing food more sustainably, responding to climate change, protecting biodiversity, or rethinking how communities live and work, our programmes and research equip students to understand and solve complex problems. We achieve this by looking at solutions that work for both people and the planet - in Scotland and around the world.

Our work supports policy change in Scotland, strengthens communities across the globe, and connects students directly with innovations happening on the ground. From AI and vertical farming to social innovation and environmental systems thinking, our students don’t just study change - they learn how to lead it.

At SRUC, you’ll benefit from handson learning, access to world-leading research, and strong links with real businesses through our national consulting network. You’ll learn from academics and professionals who are at the forefront of change, gaining practical skills as well as systems thinking that will prepare you to turn global challenges into meaningful career opportunities.

STUDENT PROFILE

SCOTT GALLOWAY

• HNC Horticulture

• HND Horticulture

• BSc (Hons) Horticulture with Plantsmanship

“ Progressing year by year gave me the flexibility to study while I worked in the industry. This way I was able to gain the hands-on practical experience I wanted alongside the classroom-based learning needed to develop my career.

During my studies, I was lucky to be able to work with the National Trust for Scotland and Royal Horticultural Society. The Horticulture with Plantsmanship degree offered a varied programme of courses that definitely helped prepare me for my career today.

I now work in local government as a Greenspace and Biodiversity Policy Officer. I write strategies and plans to protect and enhance biodiversity and lead on a number of nature restoration projects to secure climate adaptation and halt and reverse biodiversity loss.

I would highly recommend studying with SRUC if you are looking to start a career in horticulture.”

CHLOE HARKNESS STUDENT PROFILE

• NC Horse Care

• NC Countryside Management

• HNC Wildlife and Conservation Management

• HND Wildlife and Conservation Management

• BSc (Hons) Wildlife and Conservation Management

“ My favourite thing about studying at SRUC was how relaxed and supportive it is.

I had severe anxiety in my final year of high school but gained confidence at SRUC, supported by staff and classmates, making lifelong friends. The courses offered incredible opportunities, including trips to Romania and Kenya, practical conservation sessions, and industry connections. I initially chose NC Horse Care to work in the equine industry, then moved to Countryside Management to learn conservation.

Progressing through the different levels of conservation helped ease my anxiety, allowing me to commit gradually. I am graduating this year and have secured a job as a Seasonal Ranger with the Cairngorms National Park Authority. My varied studies have prepared me well for a career in conservation, and I hope to progress to a permanent ranger position or a career in ecology.”
