CAMPER READINESS

How do you determine if a child is eligible for a camp?

OurAviarylocationofferscampsfortransitional kindergarten(TK)through8thgrade Campersmustbe enrolledinTKthrougheighthgradeforthe2023-2024 schoolyear,bepottytrained,andbeatleast4years and6monthsoldbythefirstdayofthesessionfor whichtheyareenrolled.

Thesequestionsshouldbeaskedbyparents/guardians inordertoassistwithdeterminingreadiness.Ifthe answersareprimarily“no,”thenitmightnotbethe righttimeforyourchildtogetthemostoutofacamp experience.That’sokay!Eachchildisdifferentand campsmaynotbetherightfitforeverychildorat everystageoflife.Campersmayfeelmore comfortablebeingabletoaskanadultforhelp,when heorshecanadapttochanges,andwhenheorsheis abletofollowinstructions.Thisisimportantinsetting upcampersforsuccess.

SRSRCrequiresacopyofthecamper’sbirthcertificate tobeuploadedintothefamily’sCampBrainaccount forallcampersenrolledintransitionalkindergartenor kindergartentoverifyageeligibilityforcamps.

Is my child ready for a camp program?

Campsareawonderfulexperiencethatenrichthelives ofyouth.Itisimportantthatthecamperisreadyfor theexperiencetomaketheirtimeatcampsuccessful andenjoyable.Thingstothinkaboutwhen determiningifyourchildisreadyforthecamp environmentincludes,butisnotlimitedto,the following:

How much are the non-refundable deposit fees?

Thedepositfeeis$25percamperpercampsessionand $15persingle-daycamp,whichisdueatthetimeof registration.Depositsarenon-refundable.

When are installments charged to my card?

InstallmentswillbechargedontheTuesdayoftheweek priortothecampsession.Datesshownonyourcredit cardstatementmayreflectdifferentlydependingon weekenddatesandtimeofprocessing.

What if my credit card payment is declined?

Ifyourcreditcardisdeclined,anothercardonfilein CampBrainwillbecharged.Astaffmembermaycontact youforupdatedinformation.Pleasekeepyourcreditcard informationuptodate.Campersmaynotattendcampif thereisanoutstandingbalance,includingunpaid balancesonamembershipaccount.

What fees are there for registration?

Eachcamphasaregistrationfee.Feeswillvarydepending onmembershipstatus(memberornon-member)and whetheranyotheradditionaloptionsareselected. Additionalfeesmaybeincurredforsituationssuchaslate pickupsandmissinglunches,whichwillbediscussed laterinthehandbook.

Does SRSRC offer financial assistance?

Unfortunately,weareunabletoofferfinancial assistance.

What is the camp refund policy?

IfSRSRCcancelsacamp,wewillprovideafullrefund foryouandyouwillbenotifiedwithin5daysofthe campstartdatesothatotherarrangementscanbe made.

Ifyouneedtocancelanupcomingcamp,please requestacancellation7daysormorepriortothestart ofthecampweek.Arefundminusthenon-refundable depositwillbeprocessedforcancelledcamps. Refundswillnotbegivenifthecancellationrequestis madeoncethecamphasstarted.

What is the camp transfer policy?

Acamptransferrequestmaybemadetotransfera camperfromoneweektoanotherwithinthesame campseason Creditbalancesmaynotbeusedfor eitheradifferentSRSRCYouthChildren’sProgram, membershipaccountoradifferentcampseasoninthe future.Transferrequestsmustbemade7daysormore priortothecampweek.Alltransferswillbeassesseda $15.00transferfeepercamper.

Can I ask to see who is registered for certain camps?

Weareunabletotellyouwhichcampersareregistered forspecificcampweeksorprograms.Partofthecamp experienceincludesmakingnewcampfriendsand connections.

What is your priority registration policy?

Prioritywillbegiventoparticipantscurrentlyenrolled inoneofouryearroundyouthprograms.

Can my camper and his/her friend be in the same group during the day?

Eachindividualcampusuallystaystogetherinagroup duringamajorityoftheday;however,dependingon campneedsandphysicaldistancingguidelines,camp maydivideintogroupsforactivities.Wemaygroup campersbasedongrades,staggeredregisteredtimes, ability,and/orhouseholds,inwhichcasewemaynot alwaysbeabletokeepfriendsinthesamegroup.You maysubmitarequesttoacampdirector.Wetryto keepfriendstogether,butwealsoencouragecampers tomakeadditionalnewfriends.

What if the camp week I want for my child is already full? Is there a waiting list?

Whenconfirmingregistrationwithacampdirector, thatdirectorwillletyouknowwhichrequestsare fulfilledandwhichneedtobeaddedtoourwaitlist.We willnotifyyouifaspotbecomesavailableforyour camperinthatactivity.

Will my camper be photographed or video recorded?

Themajorityofourcampstaffarecollegestudents andadultswithinthechildcarecareersetting.Some membersofourstaffmaybecredentialedteachers, someareincollegemajoringinelementaryeducation, somearealreadyworkingatschoolsinlocalschool districts,andsomeworkwithouryouthprogramsyear round.

Ofourstaff,themajorityare18yearsofageorolder. AllcounselorsaretrainedinCPRandfirstaid Some mayhavelifeguardingcertificationorotherrelevant specialcertifications.Ourstaffistrainedtousethe “ruleofthree,”toavoidsituationsinwhichtheymay beoneononewithacamper.Allofourstaffisdevoted toworkingwithandprovidingcareforthechildrenin ourcamps

What training does the camp staff receive?

Allnewcampstaffmembersarerequiredtoattendthe equivalentoffourtofivedaysoftrainingpriorto workinginthecampprogram.Manyofourcampstaff havebeencampersatSRSRCwhentheywereyounger, somehavehadmultiplesummersofexperiencewith us,andsomeareyearroundemployeesofSRSRCin theYouthProgramsDepartment.Leadershipstaffalso attendtrainingsessionspriortothestartofcamp. Can camp staff babysit?

Ourcampcounselorsworkwellwithchildren; however,westronglydiscouragehavingstaffbabysit. Itisourpolicythatstaffmemberscanonlybabysitfor thosewhoareinourSRSRCcampprogramifthe arrangementissetupontheirown.Anybabysitting donebystaffisnotaffiliatedwithourcampprogram oranySRSRCprogram.

Can camp staff accept presents?

Ifmisbehaviorisrecurrentorthemisbehaviorismore severeordisruptive,thechildmayeitherbeaskedto sitoutduringanactivityortheparentmaybecalledto pickupthechild.Someactsmayresultinimmediate suspensionorexpulsionofthechildfromthecamp programincludingbutnotlimitedto:fighting, intentionallyharmingothers,theft,andpossessionof weaponsordrugs

What is your policy on bullying?

Campisnotdesignedtohandleillchildren,soitisthe parent'sresponsibilitytopickhis/herchildup,or arrangepickupbyanemergencycontact,within30 minutes.Childrenwhoareshowingsignsor experiencingsymptomsofillnessshouldnotattend camp,andwillbesenthome.Campersmustbefeverfreeforaminimumof24hourswithouttheuseof fever-reducingmedications,mustnolongerbeinthe contagiousphaseoftheirillness,andsymptomsmust beresolvinginordertoreturntocamp.Camperswho aresenthomeduetoCOVID-19-likesymptomsmaybe requiredtopresentanegativeCOVID-19testpriorto returningtocamp.

Suchfactorsmayinfluenceacamper'sbehaviorand relationshipwithpeers,sothisinformationis beneficialtostaffinordertobestprovideforthe child'sneeds.Allsuchinformationwillbetreatedwith theutmostconfidence.Communicationcanoccur throughcampcounselors,thecampdirector,orthe coordinators Informationpertinenttoyourcamper’s health,safety,orexperiencemaybeprovidedtoselect campstaffworkingdirectlywithyourchildinaddition toleadershipstaff.

What type of activities will campers be participating in throughout the day?

Will there be camp evaluations?

Wevalueyourinputandwillsendoutanonlinesurvey tohelpustoevaluateoursummercampprograms.

What if it rains?

What if my camper does not want to swim or forgot his/her swimsuit?

Ifacamperdoesnotbringhis/herswimsuit,theywill notparticipateinswimming.Ifacamperdoesnot wanttoswimtheymaybeprovidedanalternate activitychoice Duringswimtime,campersmayalso haveotheroptionsdependingonthecampranging fromgames,artcartactivities,orplaygroundtime. Someofouractivitiesbesidesswimmingwillinvolve waterandclothesmaystillgetwet,sodressyour camperinclothesinwhichtheycangetmessy.

What if my camper can't swim or isn't water safe in the deep end?

SRSRClifeguardingandcamppersonnelperforma swimassessmenttodetermineacamper’sswimming abilities Thisassessmentconsistsofonepoollength (approximately25yards)acrossthepoolinanystyle thecamperfeelsmostcomfortable,whilemaintaining ahorizontalpositionandwithoutrestingonthewallor laneline.

Thosethatpassareallowedtoswiminallareasofthe pool,exceptforthelaplanes.Ifachildpasses,butstaff noticethechildbecomesfatiguedorunabletoswim withthesamestrengthasbefore,staffmayhavethe childstayintheshallowarea.

Camperswhochoosenottotaketheswim assessment,donotsatisfactorilycompletetheswim assessment,orbecomeunabletoswimsafely,receive anorangebraceletandremaininthedesignated shallowareas.

Wewouldencouragecamperswhoneedextra instructiontoparticipateinourswimlessonswim lessonsthroughourAquaticsdepartment,forwhich youmayalsoregisterthroughCampBrain.

How often do campers take the swim assessment?

SwimassessmentsaregivenonMondaysoronthefirst daythatthecamperchoosestoswimfortheweek. Campersmayonlytaketheswimassessmentonceper week.Wedonotofferswimassessmentsatother times,suchasapre-campswimassessment.

Acamperwhodoesnotpasstheswimassessmenthas theopportunitytotaketheswimassessmentthenext weekthattheyattendcamp Thisgivesthecamper timetoprogressandworkonbecomingastronger swimmerbeforeretakingtheswimassessment.

Camperswhopasstheswimassessmentmaystillbe askedtostayintheshallowareaattimesdepending oncertainfactorssuchasfatigue
