CAMP DIRECTORS' LETTER Our camps are accredited through the American Camp Association and meet or exceed the standards set forth by this accrediting organization. We are proud of our programs and hope to offer your child a fantastic summer full of fun, memorable and engaging programming. We offer a variety of traditional and specialty camp activities through our program combined with enriching add-ons to tailor your camper's experience to their interests. All campers entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2022 are eligible to register. Some camps and activities are designed for specific grade groups, which will be noted in the camp description. Campers must be turning 5 by the start date of the session for which they are enrolled and must be potty trained. Camps are open to members and non-members of the Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club. Please take a few minutes to review our 2022 Summer Camp Brochure & Parent Handbook, which will answer many of your questions about our summer camp programs. ACTIVITY REQUEST AND REGISTRATION STEPS Step 1: Parents/Guardians read through the SRSRC 2022 Summer Camp Brochure that outlines all that we have to offer you this upcoming summer. Read through our Parent Handbook section for more information on our policies and procedures, which will answer frequently asked questions. Step 2: Decide on camp session dates, select weeklong camps, select drop off & pick up times, and any add-on options.
Camp Drop-Off & Pick-Up Times Camp operates from 7:30am5:30pm. We use staggered drop-off and pickup times. Pick your times (space permitting). Campers must be dropped off on or after the selected time. Campers must be picked up by or earlier than the selected pick-up time.
Step 3: Log on or create a new account through our online registration system CampBrain at https://srsrc.campbrainregistration.com/ Follow the directions to fill out all required forms and request all session dates, camps, staggered time slots and addons you would like for your camper this summer. You will receive an automated email response once your request has been successfully submitted.
Drop-Off Times: 7:30am 7:45am 8:00am or later*
Step 4: A camp director will contact you by email or phone to confirm and help build your camper(s) registration for summer, answer any questions you may have, process registration and provide you with any additional information. Requested camps and add-ons are subject to availability.
*Please note that off-site camps require campers to be dropped off prior to the day trip departure time. Please check the camp agenda for details.

Step 5: Deposits and payment will be processed through CampBrain by either paying in full or installments with a valid credit card. Installments will be charged on the 10th of each month.

Mini camps are camps that occur during school holidays, school vacations, and during the summer days prior to Session 1 of Summer Camps.

Camp Ducklings provides an opportunity for campers to start their summer camp experience right away and allow for new campers to get their feet wet prior to flying into the rest of the summer program! Campers will participate in general camp activities gearing them up for the full fun summer weeks to come! Activities may include STEAM project-based activities and structured camp basics: creative art, group games & social free play. Our mini camp option will operate every day from 7:30am-5:30pm with staggered drop-off and pickup times Wednesday-Friday.
Tradition & Growth Each spring two ducks, who we've named the Feathersons, visit SRSRC through the beginning of summer. Just like these mallards returning seasonally, we are excited to welcome your camper each summer! As camp professionals, we look forward to being a part of the growth of your child each season from their duckling days to their early teen days!

Camp Mallard is our week-long camp designed so that you can register your camper for a full week of traditional camp activities, Monday-Friday! Everyday will involve a different aspect of STEAM project-based activities that emphasize creative freedom and experimentation! Our Camp program will be powered by S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) with a wide range of exciting activities for campers of all ages! We will also include time for structured camp basics: group games, expressive art, social free play, swimming and team building activities. Our camp will be a truly innovative experience by combining socialization, structured routines, education and creative opportunities that will allow all campers to explore their passions, build friendships, as well as discover new interests & first time experiences in a safe and comfortable environment. Our Next Level Campers who attend Miramar Ranch Elementary School will walk from Miramar Ranch with SRSRC camp counselors. Next Level Campers attending a school other than Miramar Ranch must be dropped off by an adult at SRSRC Camps at 12:00pm.

Next Level Campers attending Marshall Middle School may walk themselves to camp with a signed permission slip or may be dropped off by an adult. Once at SRSRC, campers will have the opportunity to swim, work on art projects, have homework time, spend time in our NEW Media Lab, play group games and so much more! Our Next Level Camps option will operate from the end of school until 5:30pm with staggered pick-up times. Campers will have the option of attending camp with the options below (space permitting), which can be selected at the time of registration through the registration site: Pick-Up Time Options (campers must be picked up by the selected time) 3:30pm 4:30pm 5:30pm or earlier Campers must be enrolled in a San Diego District Summer School Program and attending as a Kindergarten through eighth grade student, be potty trained, and have turned at least 5 years old by the first day of the Next Level Camp start date of June 21, 2022. We do not accept enrolled transitional kindergarten students.

SPECIALTY CAMPS Our incredible week-long speciality camps are designed for a full week of themed activities such as sports, science or art that will also include traditional camp activities, Monday-Friday! Our camps have a themed agenda for each speciality camp that allows campers to participate in the speciality activity for 3-4 hours every day Monday through Friday along with our traditional on-site camp activities. Some speciality camps will even include a day or week of off-site day trips to local San Diego locations, themed parks and attractions. Each project can be modified to fit all skill levels - beginning through advanced. Campers will be given a unique opportunity to express their creative abilities with Ms. Teena’s Art program.
Come and play this fun basketball variation! Learn basic basketball skills through dribbling drills, shooting drills, and basic defense drills. Play new variations of basketball and work on fundamentals in a non-competitive atmosphere. On Friday, show off your new skills to your family as they come to participate in a drill set alongside you!

We will explore the park throughout the week and learn through visiting some of our amazing San Diego museums. Join us on a journey to local water attractions like La Jolla Shores and the Waterfront Park. Let’s exercise our brains with our Weird Science program all week long, that will keep us guessing and intrigued! Throughout the week strange discoveries will be made with a variety of experiments that will test the laws of nature. Campers will have the opportunity to journey in new experiences and get their brains engaged with project-based activities and creative scientific discoveries.

LESSON AND ENRICHMENT ADD-ONS Our Aviary SRSRC Lessons and Enrichment Add-On Options are an excellent way to customize your camper's summer camp experience. We have multiple options for each camper to enjoy, learn and experience during their regular camp day. Camps are a great, safe place for children to experience new and exciting activities that they have either never tried before or have little experience with and for those campers that are perfecting their skills. Campers registered in our traditional and onsite specialty camps are eligible to add multiple add-ons each week. Off-site campers may not be eligible due to being on their day trip. We do not allow participants to register just for add-ons without registering for a week-long camp. The camp department will be responsible for placing your camper within either the morning or afternoon time for each add-on depending on registrations. While campers participate in their registered add-on, camp activities on the general camp agenda will be missed. These activities will not be made up, nor will there be possibility to take home projects or activities missed during the enrichment or lesson add-on. Campers will be able to jam along with a variety of music from Jazz to Country, Hip Hop to Rock n Roll. We will have musical instruments to play along with while dancing to the newest trends. Singing is welcomed and encouraged.
Our springboard diving lessons are 30 minutes and designed for your camper to attend all while at our Aviary camps! Participants will be taught by experienced springboard dive coaches who will teach to the level of your child - beginner through advanced! Campers must pass the swim assessment and be comfortable in the deep end of the pool to participate.

Beyond safety and supervision, our goal is to provide every child with special, positive, and growthoriented opportunities. We are hoping to have an emphasis on basic group setting skills that have not been available to most children for more than a year. SRSRC camps are dedicated to meeting the following goals. Campers will: Goal: Be provided with a safe environment in which campers feel comfortable in trying new things. Outcome: Campers will feel comfortable with staff and participate in activities offered throughout the camp day. CAMPER READINESS How do you determine if a child is eligible for a camp? Our Aviary location offers camps for kindergarten through 8th grade. Campers must be going into kindergarten through eighth grade in the fall of 2022, be potty trained, and turn at least 5 years old by the first day of the session for which they are enrolled. Our Aviary location does not offer camps for preschool, transitional kindergarten or high school grades. SRSRC requires a copy of the camper’s birth certificate to be uploaded into the family’s CampBrain account for all campers entering kindergarten to verify age eligibility for camps.
Is my child ready for a summer camp program? Camps are a wonderful experience that enrich the lives of youth. It is important that the camper is ready for the experience to make their time at camp successful and enjoyable. Things to think about when determining if your child is ready for the camp environment includes, but is not limited to, the following: Does your child put his or her own clothes on without assistance? Does your child listen to instructions? Does your child ask an adult for help when needed? Does your child perform all toileting independently? Does your child feel comfortable in loud and busy environments? Does your child cooperate with his or her playmates? Does your child respond reasonably well to changes? Does your child enjoy making friends?

These questions should be asked by parents/guardians in order to assist with determining readiness. If the answers are primarily “no,” then it might not be the right time for your child to get the most out of a camp experience. That’s okay! Each child is different and camps may not be the right fit for every child or at every stage of life. Campers may feel more comfortable being able to ask an adult for help, when he or she can adapt to changes, and when he or she is able to follow instructions. This is important in setting up campers for success. If the answers are “yes,” the camper may be better prepared for a happy, enjoyable experience in the camp environment, and get more out of what the camp day has to offer. Pool time is more fun when the camper can change independently and go straight to the activity, free choice activities are better with cooperation skills and being able to handle a loud environment, and the group setting can be more enjoyable when a child likes making new friends.
My child has special needs. Will this camp be a good fit? Our camp activities may be physically and/or emotionally demanding at times, such as games involving a lot of movement, directions needing a lot of attention, and social interactions with many other individuals. Our goal is for campers to have a fulfilling experience. If you have any questions regarding your child’s readiness for camp or camp fit, feel free to contact a Camp Director to have your questions answered. We would love to speak with you ahead of time to help you evaluate whether our camp environment is right for your camper.

What are my payment options?

How much are the non-refundable deposit fees? The deposit fee is $25 per camper per camp session, which is due at the time of registration. Deposits are non-refundable.
When are installments charged to my card? Installments are charged on the 10th of each month, beginning in April. Dates shown on your credit card statement may reflect differently depending on weekend dates and time of processing.
What if my credit card payment is declined? If your credit card is declined, another card on file in CampBrain will be charged. A staff member may contact you for updated information. Please keep your credit card information up to date. Campers may not attend camp if there is an outstanding balance, including unpaid balances on a membership account.
What fees are there for registration? Each camp has a registration fee. Fees will vary depending on membership status (member or nonmember) and whether any other add-on program options are selected. Additional fees may be incurred for situations such as late pick ups and missing lunches, which will be discussed later in the handbook.

Does SRSRC offer financial assistance? Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial assistance.
What is the camp refund policy? If SRSRC cancels a camp, we will provide a full refund for you and you will be notified within 5 days of the camp start date so that other arrangements can be made. If you need to cancel an upcoming camp, please request a cancellation 14 days or more prior to the start of the camp week. A refund minus the nonrefundable deposit will be processed for week-long camps. Refunds will not be given if the cancellation request is made 48 hours or less prior to the start of the camp session.
What is the camp transfer policy? A camp transfer request may be made to transfer a camper from one week to another within the same camp season. Credit balances may not be used for either a different SRSRC Youth Children’s Program, membership account or a different camp season in the future. Transfer requests must be made 14 days or more prior to the camp week. All transfers will be assessed a $15.00 transfer fee per camper.
Will you be open the entire summer? SRSRC Summer Camps will operate within the guidelines provided by the local and state authorities. Due to the changing nature of the current situation, and keeping the health and safety of our camp families and staff in mind, we will follow these guidelines and mandates up to and including any necessary discontinuation in programming. However, it is our hope that we will open all summer!

Can my camper be registered for all the add-on options within the same week? Campers registered for on-site camps can participate in multiple add-on programs during the week! Campers registered for off-site camps will be limited by the timing of their day trips and may not be able to participate in add-ons. Please note that add-ons happen concurrently with regular camp activities. Your camper will be participating in the add-on activities instead of the regular agenda activities.
Can I ask to see who is registered for certain camps? We are unable to tell you which campers are registered for specific camp weeks or program add-ons. Part of the camp experience includes making new camp friends and connections.
Can my camper and his/her friend be in the same group during the day? Each individual camp usually stays together in a group during a majority of the day; however, depending on camp needs and physical distancing guidelines, camp may divide into groups for activities. We may group campers based on grades, staggered registered times, ability, and/or households, in which case we may not always be able to keep friends in the same group. You may submit a request to a camp director. We try to keep friends together, but we also encourage campers to make additional new friends.
What if the camp week I want for my child is already full? Is there a waiting list? When confirming registration with a camp director, that director will let you know which requests are fulfilled and which need to be added to our waitlist. We will notify you if a spot becomes available for your camper in that activity. As you work with a camp director to customize your campers summer there are A LOT of options for your camper each week and an add-on may need to be adjusted to a different session.

What is your registration priority?
Do I need to bring my ID to pick up my camper?
Priority will be given to participants currently enrolled in one of our year round youth programs.
Yes. We require photo identification from ALL parents/guardians or other individuals picking up a camper. Please be ready to present photo identification at each pick up. This is for safety purposes.
Will my camper be photographed or video recorded? Campers may be photographed or videoed by a camp director or lead staff during a camp project/activity for recognition of that camper or group, or to be used for promotional purposes, or to share with camp families. Please contact Mrs. Monica in writing if you would like to withdraw your photo/media permission at monica@srsrc.com. A new withdrawal request must be submitted at the start of each camp season.
DROP OFF, PICK UP, & TRANSPORTATION Where do I sign in my camper? Camper sign in will be located on the Big Field. A Camp Director or staff member will be available to greet you and your camper. Camp staff will walk your child to place their backpack and belongings in their cubby, then guide the child to their first activity. Campers will not be able to sign in before 7:30am.
Who is authorized to pick up my camper? Primary adults listed on the registration account and those listed on the camper’s health history form may pick up the camper. Camp staff reserve the right to request the individual picking up to present a picture I.D. If someone not listed on the Camper Health History Form will be picking up for the day, you may make note of the name of the individual picking up on the sign-in and out sheet with a camp director. Individuals picking up your camper must be at least 18 years of age.
What if I need to add or delete someone from my authorized pick-up list? Please make the necessary changes on your camper’s health history on your online camp registration account. If you have difficulties updating the necessary information, please contact the Front Desk for assistance at 858-271-6222.
If you drop off your camper after 8:30 you may ask a front office staff member to radio the camps for their location before entering the camp.
If the change needs to be made the day of, then please inform a camp director.
Where do I sign out my camper?
Who provides transportation?
Camper sign out will be located on the Big Room back patio. Once properly signed out a lead staff will radio for your camper to meet you in the lobby. On Friday’s, a staff member will help direct you to the backpack area after sign out is complete to pick up all your camper’s belongings. All belongings at the end of the week will be discarded or donated.
SRSRC vans will be used to allow for the safest means of transportation. Our drivers are required to have a valid driver’s license and be insured, maintain a good driving record, and hold current certification in first aid and CPR. Vehicle capacities will be followed as well as state transportation guidelines.

Do you provide transportation between camp and home?
What if I need before and/or after care for my camper?
No, we do not pick up campers from home or drop off campers to their home.
The camp drop-off and pick-up options have been designed to provide you with flexibility to accommodate morning and afternoon schedules.
What if my camper is going to be absent? If your camper will be absent from camp, please call or e-mail the Camp Director by 8:00 a.m. There will be no credits or refunds for missed days of camp.
What if I am going to be late picking up my camper? Please contact the Front Desk at 271-6222 and notify staff that you will be late to pick up. We appreciate your following the selected drop-off and pick-up times. Pick-ups that occur after 5:30pm will be assessed a fee of $1 per minute per camper. If a camper has not been picked up by 5:30pm we refer to his/her emergency information and begin calling numbers listed. If by 6:30p.m., we have not heard from a parent or emergency contact, we have no other alternative and are obligated to turn the child over to Child Protective Services.
What if I need to drop off my camper late or pick up my camper early? Schedule options have been designed to be flexible for your schedule; however, in the event that a need arises for a change in your selected drop off time or pick up time, please confirm availability with a Camp Director. Make arrangements at least 1 day in advance. If you must pick up your child due to an emergency, please contact the front office, who can relay your message to the camp director or lead staff.

Am I required to sign my camper in and out daily? SRSRC requires that all children are to be properly signed in and out by an adult age 18 or older, so that children can be properly assigned to SRSRC staff in the morning and properly signed out to the adult after camp. Unfortunately, siblings and others under the age of 18 may not sign out a camper. Due to COVID-19 related considerations, a camp director or lead staff may sign your child in and/or out for you to minimize the use of shared pens.
Can my teenager sign him/herself out? Participants in 6th - 8th grade will be allowed to sign him/herself in and out with a Camper Release Form completed/signed by the parents. Campers with a release form are expected to sign in at the selected sign-in time and sign-out at the selected sign-out time. Campers who sign themselves out must be picked up. This convenient option allows for the camper to sign out, while the parent waits in front of the facility.
What is the pick-up procedure if there is an emergency at camp? If there is an emergency at camp, such as a fire, lockdown, etc., we will notify the parents by email, push notification, phone call, or mobile application. We will let the parents know when it is safe to come pick up their camper and provide parents with further instructions.

What are the safety procedures during transportation? When using transportation by van for an SRSRC camp, we follow strict procedures recommended by ACA. These procedures includes items such as having a camp counselor confirm campers are buckled, using booster seats as required by law, and checking that our vans are in good repair. Campers on the van will always be supervised by a camp staff. We always carry SRSRC communication devices (such as SRSRC cellular phones and walkie talkies) in case of emergency, first aid supplies, camp roster, as well as copies of camper health history forms in order to ensure a safe trip. SRSRC does not use private vehicles for transportation.
What are the van rules? 1. Always follow the staff's directions. 2. Always wear a seatbelt in the vans. 3. No turning around. Backs on backs and seats on seats. 4. No standing up unless a counselor gives you the okay when the van is completely stopped. 5. Do not touch the door locks, handles, lights, or air conditioner vents. 6. Do not distract the driver - use a quiet voice. 7. In case of an accident, listen to the counselor. Follow their instructions on unlocking and opening the van doors. 8. No food, drink, or gum.
What if my camper misses the van departure? If a camper is dropped off for a day camp program after the van has departed, the camper will remain with the Camp Mallard on-site camp program for the day. In exceptional circumstances, a camp director may give their approval for the parent to drop off the camper at the off-site location and notify the camp staff of the camper's arrival. This is not always feasible, so please plan to have your camper at camp on time. SRSRC Camps will not send a vehicle back to pick up late campers or deliver a child to the off-site program. There will also be no credits or refunds if a camper misses an off-site trip due to late drop off.
What if the off-site campers will be returning later than planned? If there are any changes or emergencies that may affect the arrival times of the vans back to camp, parents may be notified by email, by phone call, verbally at pick up, or by the posting of a sign at the individual camp station, depending on the circumstance.
PREPARING FOR CAMP How can I get a camp weekly agenda? Camp agendas will be attached to the camp email sent out the Friday prior to the camp session. You may also ask the front office staff for a printed copy.
What time do the camp vans depart and return?
What should my camper wear to camp?
Check your camper's camp agenda for specific departure and return times for the week. Plan to have your camper signed in to camp no later than 8:45am for camps with a planned day trip.
Campers are required to wear closed-toe shoes, such as tennis shoes. Campers must wear closed-toe shoes during camp activities. Skirts and dresses should not be worn to camp. We will be engaging in activities that require running and some activities that may get messy, so we suggest that campers wear clothing appropriate for their camp activities.

Are face coverings required to be worn at camp? We will follow the CA Department of Public Health mandates regarding changes in mask or face covering requirements. If they are not mandated for camps, then face coverings will not be required. Campers, staff, and parents may elect to wear a mask if they so choose.
What should my camper bring to camp? Campers must bring a morning snack, a lunch, an afternoon snack, and a drink daily. Please send food with your camper that is non-perishable and does not require heating, as we cannot accommodate with refrigeration and heating. Campers should also bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day. Lotion sunscreen will be provided for campers; however, they can bring their own to use, and are also encouraged to bring a hat and a sweatshirt. Campers are encouraged to keep items in a backpack; everything should be labeled.
Will my camper be able to purchase lunch or snacks during camp? Campers will not have the opportunity to purchase snacks or lunch items during camp. Campers must bring a morning snack, a lunch, an afternoon snack, and a drink daily. Please send food with your camper that is non-perishable and does not require heating, as we cannot accommodate with refrigeration and heating. Campers should also bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

What shouldn't my camper bring to camp? Expensive clothing, jewelry, CD players, iPods, money (unless otherwise specified by the camp agenda), toys, games, cards, alcohol, drugs, personal sports equipment (unless required by SRSRC), vehicles, animals, weapons, cell phones, etc. SRSRC is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Campers are responsible for the belongings that they bring with them to camp. Certain items, if brought to camp, may result in immediate removal from the camp, such as weapons, alcohol, and drugs. If cell phones are brought to camp, they must be kept in the child’s backpack. SRSRC is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of cell phones and electronics, nor the content accessed on these devices.
What if my camper forgets to bring lunch? If a camper forgets their lunch, the parent will be called to bring the camper a lunch. If unable to do so, a pre-packaged lunch may be provided and a $10.00 fee will be assessed and charged to your CampBrain account.
What if my camper loses something at camp? If a camper loses an item on-site, there will be a lost and found area near the camp backpack area. The camp backpack area will be emptied and cleared at the end of each week. You may also check the lost and found at the pool and the general lost and found. Labeling items, keeping items together in a backpack, and not bringing expensive items are a good way to help prevent loss. SRSRC is not responsible for items that are lost, broken, or stolen.

What camp activities have additional waivers?
What training does the camp staff receive?
Some camp activities may require additional waivers to be completed for the vendors that we utilize. An email will be sent to you with the required waiver or you may request a waiver from a Camp Director.
All new camp staff members are required to attend the equivalent of four to five days of training prior to working in the camp program. Many of our camp staff have been campers at SRSRC when they were younger, some have had multiple summers of experience with us, and some are year round employees of SRSRC in the Youth Programs
Please upload the completed waiver to the appropriate camper paperwork spot in your CampBrain account. This is the preferred method of waiver submission. This ensures that we have the waivers prior to your camper’s arrival to camp. Additionally, waivers can be turned in to the camp counselors during morning sign-in or e-mailed to waivers@srsrc.com. Campers must have the waiver completely filled out by a parent in order to participate. There cannot be any exceptions made.
CAMPER SUPERVISION Who is watching my camper? The majority of our camp staff are college students and adults within the child care career setting. Some members of our staff may be credentialed teachers, some are in college majoring in elementary education, some are already working at schools in local school districts, and some work with our youth programs year round.
Department. Leadership staff also attend training sessions prior to the start of camp. During the training sessions, camp counselors learn the policies, the procedures, leadership skills, how to properly perform head counts, how to sign campers in and out, and their responsibilities. Training sessions also focus on developing and improving interaction skills with children and how to respond to disruptive behavior in a positive way.
How many staff will be watching my child? Our camp utilizes a 1:10 or 1:12 staff to camper ratio depending on the grade being supervised and the activity. There may be exceptions to the ratios depending on the camp environment, especially with camps that offer enrollment for multiple grade groups and for camps that remain on-site. Due to the nature of our camp program and activities planned, it is our intent not to surpass a 1:12 ratio for our campers.
Of our staff, the majority are 18 years of age or older. All counselors are trained in CPR and first aid. Some may have lifeguarding certification or other relevant special certifications. Our staff is trained to use the “rule of three,” to avoid situations in which they may be one on one with a camper. All of our staff is devoted to working with and providing care for the children in our camps.

Can camp staff babysit? Our camp counselors work well with children; however, we strongly discourage having staff babysit. It is our policy that staff members can only babysit for those who are in our SRSRC camp program if the arrangement is set up on their own. Any babysitting done by staff is not affiliated with our camp program or any SRSRC program.
Can camp staff accept presents? Our staff members are very dedicated and work hard; however, it is our policy that camp staff cannot accept gratuities. If instead you wish to offer feedback on a staff member’s job well done please contact a Camp Director.
CAMPER BEHAVIOR What are the camp rules? 1. Be Respectful & Honest. Example: Respect others, respect equipment, be honest and tell the truth. 2. Be Responsible. Example: Make good decisions, use equipment the correct way. 3. Keep your body, objects & unkind words to yourself. Example: Keep your hands and feet to yourself and only say positive words. 4. Stay with your Group. Example: Always ask a counselor when you need to use the restroom or get a drink of water. Never leave your group or buddy. 5. Listen and Follow Directions. Example: Listen when counselors and others are speaking, ask questions if you don’t know and follow directions the FIRST time asked. 6. Have FUN!!

What happens if my camper is disruptive at camp? Our camp staff is trained to deal with discipline issues in a respectful and positive manner in order to resolve the misbehavior. It is not unusual for a camper to test their limits and our staff is trained to handle these situations. Our staff speaks with the camper, allows the camper to share his/her view of the issue and any relevant information, allows the camper to take time out to think about their actions and how it affects the camp experience, and then let the child return to the activity. If misbehavior is recurrent or the misbehavior is more severe or disruptive, the child may either be asked to sit out during an activity or the parent may be called to pick up the child. Some acts may result in immediate suspension or expulsion of the child from the camp program including but not limited to: fighting, intentionally harming others, theft, and possession of weapons or drugs. Our policies do not grant refunds or credits for missed days of the camp program due to a behavior issue. The following steps are generally used for our discipline plan: 1. The camper is given a verbal warning, which may or may not involve a timeout depending on severity. 2. The camper is given a written behavior report, which one copy is given to the parent and another copy is given to the camp director. With a behavior report, the camper will sit out during part of an activity and reflect upon their actions with the guidance of a staff member. 3. If the camper receives either three behavior reports or a behavior report that involves a threat to the safety of the camper or others, suspension

or expulsion from the camp program may result depending on the severity. We do our best to work with the camper to help resolve the issue before implementing a suspension or expulsion. What happens if my camper's behavior causes their removal from camp?
At Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club, bullying is not tolerated. Our philosophy is based on ensuring that every program participant has the opportunity to thrive during their experience at SRSRC. We work together as a team to ensure that participants gain self-confidence, make new friends, and go home with great memories. Bullying behavior, just like any other disruptive behavior, will be addressed by staff following our disciplinary guidelines. These progressive steps include reiterating our program rules to ensure an understanding of participant behavior expectations, sharing a behavior report with the participant’s parents, and suspension or removal from the program as warranted for continued or serious issues.
Our goal is for campers to have a successful and fulfilling time at camp. We wish the best experience for each child, which means taking into account how disruptive behavior may impact others’ experience at camp. If our camp is not a fit at this time, and the camper must be removed from camp, the camper’s parent will be notified to pick up the camper. Campers who are removed from the camp program may enroll in camps again one year from the removal date pending a successful meeting with and approval by the camp director. The one year period gives the camper the opportunity to grow and develop their skills prior to enrolling in any SRSRC affiliated youth program.
What is your policy on bullying? Bullying is aggressive behavior towards another individual with the intention of causing harm, in which there exists an imbalance of power between the bully and the victim, which occurs repeatedly or has the potential to be repeated (American Psychological Association, 2016). Bullying happens when a person or group of people want to have power over another and use their power to get their way, at the expense of someone else. Bullying comes in many forms, such as physical, verbal, and relational. There may be some instances where participants may have a disagreement or generally not get along with SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2022
CAMPER HEALTH & SAFETY What if my camper needs to take medication during the camp day? The Camp Director, a lead counselor, or staff member with Camp Director authorization, will administer your child's medication as directed.

In order to administer the medication, we must have the following: 1. The camper's medication needs to be brought to camp and given to the Camp Director or designated staff in a paper bag in its original container. Please label the bag with the camper's name, and camp. Please do not pack the 2. medication in the child's backpack or in the child's lunch. 3. The medication must be prescribed by a doctor and in its original prescription bottle with your child's name printed on the label. Include written instructions from a physician as per quantity, time to administer, any other directions, and written clearance giving SRSRC permission to administer the medication. Please specify if refrigeration is necessary. 4. A completed medication release form must be completed every week or for the whole summer for campers who register for multiple weeks. This medication release form must be on file with the Camp Director before medication can be administered to your child. This form is available from the Camp Director, as well as online in your CampBrain account. 5. No over the counter medication will be administered unless approved on the Health History form or with parent's written consent. 6. Please pick up your child’s medication after the last week for which your camper is enrolled. If it is not picked up in a timely manner, SRSRC may dispose of the medication.
What if my camper needs special accommodations? If your camper requires special accommodations, such as special medical needs, please contact the Camp Director prior to registering for camps to discuss if we are able to provide suitable accommodations for a successful camp experience. Our goal is for our campers to be successful and feel included at camp, however, we must also work within the limitations of our training and resources.
What if my camper becomes ill or injured at camp? If your child becomes ill during camp, we will contact the parent by phone to pick the child up. If the legal guardian cannot be contacted, SRSRC staff will begin contacting the emergency contacts listed on your child's medical form. Camp is not designed to handle ill children, so it is the parent's responsibility to pick his/her child up, or arrange pick up by an emergency contact, within 30 minutes. Children who are showing signs or experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend camp, and will be sent home. Campers must be feverfree for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, must no longer be in the contagious phase of their illness, and symptoms must be resolving in order to return to camp. Not feeling well may prevent a child from fully participating in, and enjoying, the camp experience. Sick campers also risk the health of other campers who wish to enjoy their own camp experience. If your child becomes injured while at camp, SRSRC staff will take whatever steps necessary to obtain medical care for your child. For a minor injury an accident report will be filled out. For an injury that is believed to be beyond our scope, emergency

personnel will be called or your child may be transported to the hospital in an SRSRC vehicle. Any expenses for routine or emergency medical care are the responsibility of the parent.
What if a camper or staff member becomes ill with COVID-19? In the event that a camper or staff member becomes ill with COVID-19, it is the adult’s responsibility to communicate this with a Camp Director or Administrator of SRSRC. We will follow the CA Department of Public Health and the County of San Diego guidance for situations in which a camper or staff tests positive for COVID-19.
What is the camp lice policy? We have a nit-free policy. If a child is found to have lice or nits, the parent will be called to pick the child up. Children will be able to return to the program once they are nit-free as seen by a camp director or lead staff member.
Will physical distancing be required? We cannot guarantee that children will be physically distanced from one another due to the nature of summer camp.
Will sunscreen be applied to my camper throughout the day? Sunscreen application times are in the morning, during snack time, during lunchtime, and in the afternoon. Sunscreen is also applied before any water activities, such as swimming. If you do not want sunscreen applied to your camper, or would like a specific type of sunscreen applied, please have a note sent to the camper's camp counselor for the session and provide them with the specific sunscreen. At SRSRC, although we provide lotion sunscreen to each camper, our camp counselors cannot physically apply sunscreen to the campers without parental consent, which can be given when completing the camper's health history form.
What if I need to speak with my camper while they are at camp? Some situations may arise in which it is necessary to get a hold of your child during camp. Please call the front desk staff, and leave a message with them. They will do their best to relay the message to the appropriate camp counselors and notify your child.
Can camp staff report suspected child abuse? Yes, any professional working with children is considered a mandated reporter. All camp counselors, coordinators and directors are all required by law to report suspected child abuse to the proper authorties. The telephone number of the Child Protect Services is (619) 560-2191. The Family Stress Center (619) 6911331 assists families with stressful times and provides suggestions for parenting techniques.

What is the camp's bathroom procedure? On-site campers utilize the buddy system. No camper is to go to the restroom without a buddy or without a group. During day trips, depending on the facility, campers will either use the buddy system or will go in a group accompanied by a camp counselor. When changing for swimming activities, a camp counselor will stand within auditory range of the locker room.

How do I communicate with the SRSRC camp staff? Communication between parents and the camp staff can either be informal or formal. We value communication with parents as it gives staff valuable insight. Vital information to relay to camp staff may include changes in the family, including: moving, hospitalization of a family member or friend, altercations in the parents' relationship, etc. Such factors may influence a camper's behavior and relationship with peers, so this information is beneficial to staff in order to best provide for the child's needs. All such information will be treated with the utmost confidence. Communication can occur through camp counselors, the camp director, or the coordinators. Information pertinent to your camper’s health, safety, or experience may be provided to select camp staff working directly with your child in addition to leadership staff.
PROGRAM CONTENT Is there a structure that my camper will follow? There is a daily agenda that incorporates a structured flow for all campers to follow, helping them transition from one activity to another. Health and safety procedures are also incorporated into the daily schedule, like handwashing and re-applying sunscreen.
Will there be camp evaluations? We value your input and will send out an online survey to help us to evaluate our summer camp programs.
What if it rains? In the event that it does rain, SRSRC staff will make a decision based on the intensity of the weather. If the decision is made that the rain does impact previously made plans, staff will utilize other appropriate parts of our facility or make alternative plans than what were previously scheduled. For some camp activities, the goal is to enjoy the water so a little rain may not cause a change in plans.
POOL & BEACH SAFETY Will campers be able to use the pool during camp? Campers will have the opportunity to swim at least twice per week. Campers will remain with their camp group during free swim to minimize interaction between the camp groups.
Where do campers change into their swimsuits? Campers change into their swimsuits in our locker rooms while on-site. The changing areas are okayed by staff and then monitored for safety (typically auditorily) while campers are utilizing them. Campers must be able to change in and out of swim attire independently.
What type of activities will campers be participating in throughout the day? Campers will have the opportunity to participate in daily and weekly activities such as: art projects, group games, social free play, board games, science experiments, writing prompts, yoga, crafts and water play activities in addition to their selected add-ons. What if my camper does not want to swim or forgot his/her swimsuit?
How often do campers take the swim assessment?
If a camper does not bring his/her swimsuit, they will not participate in swimming. If a camper does not want to swim they may be provided an alternate activity choice. During swim time, campers may also have other options depending on the camp ranging from games, art cart activities, or playground time. Some of our activities besides swimming will involve water and clothes may still get wet, so dress your camper in clothes in which they can get messy.
Swim assessments are given on Mondays or on the first day that the camper chooses to swim for the week. Campers may only take the swim assessment once per week. We do not offer swim assessments at other times, such as a pre-camp swim assessment.
What if my camper can't swim or isn't water safe in the deep end? SRSRC lifeguarding and camp personnel perform a swim assessment to determine a camper’s swimming abilities. This assessment consists of one pool length (approximately 25 yards) across the pool in any style the camper feels most comfortable, while maintaining a horizontal position and without resting on the wall or lane line.
A camper who does not pass the swim assessment has the opportunity to take the swim assessment the next week that they attend camp. This gives the camper time to progress and work on becoming a stronger swimmer before retaking the swim assessment. Campers who pass the swim assessment may still be asked to stay in the shallow area at times depending on certain factors such as fatigue.
Those that pass are allowed to swim in all areas of the pool, except for the lap lanes. If a child passes, but staff notice the child becomes fatigued or unable to swim with the same strength as before, staff may have the child stay in the shallow area. Campers who choose not to take the swim assessment, do not satisfactorily complete the swim assessment, or become unable to swim safely, receive an orange bracelet and remain in the designated shallow areas. We would encourage campers who need extra instruction to participate in our swim lesson add-on option. You may also sign up your camper for additional swim lessons through our Aquatics department, for which you may also register through CampBrain.
