Welcome to SRSRC Summer Camps!

We are excited for your family to join us for summer programs at Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club. Specialty camps, traditional camps, and daily camps will continue to be oﬀered through our Aviary location. Campers entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall are eligible to register. Campers must be turning 5 by the start date of the session for which they are enrolled and must be potty trained. All camps are open to members and non-members of Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club. Our camps are accredited through the American Camp Association and meet or exceed the standards set forth by this accrediting organization. We are proud of our programs and hope to oﬀer your child(ren) an amazing summer full of fun and engaging programming. Please take a few minutes to review the Camp Parent Handbook, which will answer many of your questions about our camp programs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Camp Descriptions Daily Camps Mini Camps

Mini camps are daily camps that occur during school holidays, school vacations, and during the summer days prior to Session 1 of Summer Camps. These are camps that your camper may enroll for on a daily basis.

On-Site Mini Camps (Grades K-8)

Wednesday, June 10th Thursday, June 11th Friday, June 12th Daily Cost: $62 Members / $73 Non Members Extended Care Daily Cost: $9 Member/$12 Non-Member Campers will participate in general camp activities, while staying on-site. Activities may include arts and crafts, cooking projects, group games, and more! Please bring swimming gear! Please pack a non-perishable lunch and a morning snack. Camp is from 8:30am-4:00pm.

Camp Creations and Innovations (Grades K-8)

The Daily Camps are conveniently designed so that you can register your camper for one day, a partial week, or an entire week! Daily Camps operate 8:30am-4:00pm. Extended care is available from 6:30am-6:30pm. Campers must be going into kindergarten through eighth grade in the fall, be potty trained, and turn at least 5 years old by the ﬁrst day of the session for which they are enrolled. We do not accept children enrolling in transitional kindergarten. Sessions: 1-11 Daily Cost: $62 Member/$73 Non Member Extended Care Daily Cost: $9 Member/$12 Non Member Our daily Camp Creations and Innovations will be powered by S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) with a wide range of exciting activities for campers of all ages! Everyday will involve a diﬀerent aspect of STEAM project-based activities that emphasize creative freedom and experimentation, all while having camp fun! Throughout the week the campers will have the opportunity to explore with Music on Mondays, Critical Thinking on Tuesdays,

Engineering on Wednesdays & Science on Thursdays. We will also include time for the camp basics: swimming, group games, expressive art and free play. CCI will be a truly innovative experience by combining both learning and creativity that will allow all campers to explore their passions as well as discover new interests. When it comes to CCI, the only limit is your imagination.

Camp Descriptions Specialty Camps Specialty camps are week long camps that follow a theme. Camps with instruction, such as sports camps or art camps, typically participate in the specialty activity for 2-3 hours per day Monday through Thursday. All specialty camps, with some noted exceptions, join together for on-site activities on Friday for Friday Fun Day and Carnival. Teen specialty camps include activities that are geared specifically towards the 6th through 8th grade aged camper. Campers must be going into the grades listed for the specific camp in the fall, be potty trained, and turn at least 5 years old by the first day of the session for which they are enrolled. We do not accept children enrolling in

11 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 transitional kindergarten. Camps operate 8:30am-4:00pm. Costs listed cover these operating hours unless otherwise listed for Specialty Camps. Extended Care is available from 6:30am-6:30pm for an additional fee.

Weekly Extended Care

Cost per session per camper: $35 Members/$45 Non Members Extended Care cannot be purchased on a daily basis for week-long specialty camps. Extended care allows campers to be dropped oﬀ as early as 6:30am and picked up as late as 6:30pm.

Descriptions Airsoft (Grades 5-8)

Session: 6 Cost: $345 Members/$397 Non Members Join us at Velocity Paintball for a fantastic camp full of airsoft action! We will be playing games Monday through Thursday, which will be refereed by the professionals at our airsoft location. Campers will be provided with equipment each day to play fast-paced games. Campers should wear pants and long-sleeved shirts that they can get dirty for extra protection, as well as comfortable tennis shoes and a water bottle. Additional waiver required. Animal Excursions (Grades K-6)

Amazing Animals (Grades K-5)

Sessions: 1 & 7 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Take a journey with us into the amazing animal kingdom! Enjoy shows, presentations, and hands-on learning activities with reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, and insects! Learn about the similarities and diﬀerences between animals through various activities with our friends from Kruisin’ Kritters and Radical Reptiles!

Anatomy Academy - NEW! (Grades K-6)

Session: 3 Cost: $300 Members/$345 Non Members Mad Science is on a mission to fascinate campers with the inner workings of the human body. This heart pumping, chest pounding, dynamic discovery camp is sure to blow their minds! Children will use ooey gooey ingredients to build a model cell and test their own traits to decode and decipher DNA. Campers will discover what keeps them alive as they take a trip down the organ trail. Mad mucus, canister canons and foamy fat will thrill all junior chemists! Campers will participate in hands-on science activities Monday-Friday.

Session: 6 Cost: $355 Members/$408 Non Members Lions, Tigers and Whales?? We are discovering animals in all diﬀerent environments from the safari to the ocean seas. This camp will be traveling to the San Diego Zoo, Birch Aquarium and SeaWorld to learn about various animals, their homes, and their behavior.

Archery (Grades 4-8)

Sessions: 3 & 11 Cost: $265 Members/$303 Non Members Have you ever wanted to try your skills at using a bow and arrow? With our Archery Camp you will get to do just that! Join archery instructors from Archery House, who will guide you towards hitting the target of fun in this on-site camp! Additional waiver required. Click HERE.

Awesome Art (Grades K-6)

Sessions: 2 & 10 Cost: $280 Members /$322 Non Members Your camper will work with a variety of art media, both 2D and 3D. All materials will be provided for each project. Projects include painting, drawing and sculpting by using various objects. Each project can be modiﬁed to ﬁt all skill levels- beginning to advanced. Each day your child will learn a new skill that will develop their artistic abilities!

Babysitting 101 (Grades 5-8)

Session: 6 Cost: $255 Members/$293 Non Members Become a certified babysitter through our revamped Babysitting Camp! Questions and Answer time with CIT’s, visit a preschool class, gain new ideas from our Drop In Babysitting room, show your responsibility with your own egg-baby and practice scenarios based on the Child Development curriculum presented during the week. Campers will learn basic first aid and will have the opportunity to become CPR certified. Campers must be present for the entire camp time in order to receive this certification.

Balboa Explorers (Grades K-4)

Session: 5 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Come join us for some FUN in Balboa Park!

13 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 We will explore the park throughout the week Monday through Thursday. Trips may include the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Natural History Museum, Museum of Man, Science Center, etc. This camp will be a BLAST of exploration!

Basketball Pro - NEW! (Grades 4-8)

Session: 4 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members Improve your game and have a blast. The focus of this high-paced camp will include a lot of basketball games with the breakdown of basic oﬀense, defense and team skills. These will be needed to develop solid overall basketball skills, and basic post moves, to use against your parents in the Camper vs. Parent game on Thursday! Come develop conﬁdence in a fun and positive environment. A completed Concussion Information Sheet must be completed for participation. Click HERE.

Bowling (Grades 2-8)

Sessions: 2 & 6 Cost: $265 Members/$305 Non Members Calling all bowlers! Ready for a friendly game of bowling? Have a nice, cool day at the bowling alley followed by a dip in the pool with friends at the Club! During our bowling camp, campers will rock and bowl to the tunes at Mira Mesa Lanes bowling alley each day, Monday through Thursday!

Bump Basketball - NEW! (Grades K-3)

Session: 5 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members Come and play this fun basketball variation! Campers will have the opportunity to learn basic basketball skills and play new and fun basketball games. Dribbling drills, shooting drills and basic defense will also be worked on. Come learn basic fundamentals in a non-competitive atmosphere. Bumpers Up Bowling - NEW! (Grades K-5)

Session: 11 Cost: $265 Members/$305 Non Members Bumpers Up! This Bowling Camp is great for the younger camper. No gutter balls here! Bumpers will be kept up and assisted rollers will be available for those that need it or would just like to use it. Come bowl a strike and pick up those spares in Bumpers Up Bowling.

California Dreaming - NEW! (Grades K-6)

Session: 8 Cost: $340 Members/$391 Non Members What is California but a beautiful state for us to explore! We will splash around in the sun and visit the Children’s Pool, Birch Aquarium,

Camping 101 - NEW! (Grades 3-8)

Session: 9 Cost: $275 Members/$316 Non Members Do you want your camper to fall in love with the great outdoors? Then sign them up for Camping 101! This camp offers hands-on, educational adventures in nature for grades 3rd-8th. Through exploration and imaginative play that may include nature awareness, games, art, hiking, fishing, wilderness skills, kayaking, biking and more, children develop a love of nature and all it provides. All campers enrolled in Camping 101 even receive their very own spinning reel and rod to keep and use on future outdoor fishing adventures with their family and friends. “Time spent amongst trees is never time wasted.” - Katrina Mayer

Cheerleading (Grades 1-5)

Sessions: 5 & 8 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members This high energy camp oﬀers basic instruction in cheers and choreographed dance movements. Our cheerleading stars will learn what it takes to show their spirit for their favorite sports teams by learning a cheer routine! On Thursday, families are encouraged to watch campers cheer for another camp’s

sports activity!

Cooking with Chef Bill (Grades 1-5)

Sessions: 3 & 8 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Chef Bill is in the SRSRC kitchen teaching the campers how to cook up a storm of deliciousness. Campers will learn about basic nutrition and safe skills with plenty of hands-on experiences with food preparation by trying out various recipes. Chef Bill will be sharing his skills and guiding your young chef to create fun, healthy dishes. Cooking ingredients may contain food allergens.

Crazy Camp Olympics (Grades K-2)

Session: 6 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members Sometimes a little friendly competition is just plain fun! Experience teamwork, cooperation, good sportsmanship, while your team competes against other teams in this camp for the title of Ultimate Crazy Camp Olympians! Earn points for your team each day during activities, which may include zany obstacle courses, wacky trivia, incredible inner

Dance (Grades K-5)

Sessions: 1 & 9 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members Get ready to move and groove! Learn a variety of diﬀerent dance moves while playing dance related games! We will be learning and practicing an age-appropriate, choreographed dance routine. Campers will put on their dancing shoes to show oﬀ their new moves for a parent performance on Thursday!

Dodgeball (Grades 4-8)

Session: 2 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members Ready, Set, DODGEBALL! Come join our very own residents “Dodgeball heroes” in Dodgeball Camp! By merging certain aspects of the traditional game with our own creative concepts, we’ve developed a truly fun, sophisticated, and competitive game of dodgeball. Campers will work on sportsmanship, while learning the important values of working together as a uniﬁed team in order to succeed!

Drama - NEW! (Grades 3-8)

Session: 5 Cost: $375 Members/$431 Non Members Curtains up to break down the traditional fairy tale ending! Campers will show off their dramatic performing art skills by utilizing a unique, fun, and imaginative interpretation to a unique fairy tale. Campers will be building the confidence to participate and benefit from each performing lesson. Specially trained teachers will come in from Drama Kids and facilitate a week of learning and play followed by a performance on Friday for the camp and parents to enjoy.

Fast & Furious Fun - NEW! (Grades 3-8)

Session: 8 Cost: $350 Members/$403 Non Members Your camper will wake up every day looking forward to hitting the track for some high-speed fun! This fun and exciting authentic kart racing camp will give your camper a truly unique experience. Come race your friends and fellow campers through the fast track or just have fun beating your fastest lap time.

Fencing (Grades 2-8)

Session: 10 Cost: $285 Members/$328 Non Members Ready to test out your fencing skills? Campers will receive two hours of instruction at San

Instructors use drills and games to teach in a fun manner and campers may participate in tournament style fencing bouts. Fencing gear is provided for use at SDFC. Additional waiver required. Get Soaked (Grades K-4)

Sessions: 3, 6, & 10 Cost: $245 Members/$282 Non Members We’re playing some of your favorite sports and games, but with a fun and exciting twist! All games played involve getting soaked! Games may include water balloon toss, water relay races, slip and slide bowling, and more! Campers should wear a swimsuit under their camp clothes in the morning and parents should gear up for the Camper vs. Parent water balloon ﬁght on Thursday afternoon.

Golf (Grades K-6)

Session: 4 Cost: $310 Members/$357 Non Members Do you love golf? Instructors from TGA golf will provide instruction during a fun and exciting Golf Camp held at Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club! Equipment will be provided and the class is held in a fun, safe and nurturing environment that builds conﬁdence, focus, motor skills, and self esteem! Campers will learn golf swings, stance, position, rules and the techniques of the game. Additional waiver required. Click HERE.

Gymnastics (Grades 1-6)

Session: 4 Cost: $275 Members/$316 Non Members Do you want to learn how to ﬂip and tumble? Gymnastics camp is the place for you! We will be traveling to Toby Wells Y, where campers will get to experience the gymnastics events - vault, uneven bars, beam, ﬂoor, pommel horse, rings, high bar, and parallel bars. Time on the trampoline and in the foam pit included, too! Whether you are a beginner or advanced, the gymnastics instructors can teach you something new! Additional waiver required. Click HERE. Harry Potter LEGO® - NEW! (Grades 2-8)

Session: 5 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Master the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO®! Visit Diagon Alley, play a game of Quidditch on the ﬁeld, scavenger hunt for house points, and duel the evil Lord Voldemort. Hone your magical skills while learning about advanced Muggle (STEM) concepts.

Ice Skating (Grades 2-8)

Sessions: 1 & 5 Cost: $280 Members/$322 Non Members

Campers will enjoy an ice skating lesson at the San Diego Ice Arena Monday through Thursday. Following the lesson, campers will enjoy a summer camp public ice skating session, where they will skate to the latest music, show oﬀ their new ice skating moves, and play games on the ice! iFLY (Grades 3-6)

Sessions: 4 & 7 Cost: $360 Members/$414 Non Members Adventure awaits! Indoor skydiving ﬂights and S.T.E.M.! Learning that blows kids away! The S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) program uses a state-of-the-art vertical wind tunnel to inspire and educate campers. Trained and reviewed STEM engineers will guide your camper through an interactive presentation, demos in the wind tunnel and

Institute of Science - NEW! (Grades 2-8)

Sessions: 2 & 6 Cost: $380 Members/$437 Non Members The mission of the Elementary Institute of Science is to nurture the intellectual curiosity of campers by providing hands-on learning experiences to further their understanding of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Campers explore a wide range of classroom STEM content areas while building skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and communication. Lunch is provided as a part of this camp.

Into the Wild - NEW! (Grades K-6)

Session: 8 Cost: $300 Members/$345 Non Members I’m going on a Safari and what do I bring…..I’ll bring SRSRC campers with me! Campers will be learning about the San Diego Zoo Safari Park animals in their habitats, all while exploring with behind the scenes experiences, classroom connection programs, and so much more! Come join us for a wild encounter where humans connect with animals at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

Jewelry Making (Grades 1-6)

Session: 11 Cost: $265 Members/$305 Non Members Want to show off your artistic talents by wearing your own art? This summer you can join us at Jewelry Making camp to do just that! We will be using different kinds of media to make creative jewelry. Campers may make their own beads, learn simple and complex bracelet making, and much more! Campers will show off their creations at a fashion show for parents and family on Thursday.

Jr. Detective - NEW! (Grades K-6)

Session: 9 Cost: $300 Members/$345 Non Members Become a Mad Science Jr. Detective and take a fascinating journey into the world of detection, forensics and classiﬁed information. Learn code language to send secret messages as part of your mission. Use special spyglasses to help learn about surveillance and the important role it plays in security. Investigate a pretend crime scene and sift through clues to crack the case. As part of the Mad Science Bureau of Investigation you will gain observational skills that are used by secret agents. Campers will participate in hands-on science activities Monday-Friday.

Jr. Lifeguard (Grades 5-8)

Sessions : 4 & 9 Cost: $250 Members/$288 Non Members Campers will learn basic lifeguarding techniques from our own SRSRC lifeguards. Instructions may include basic rescue techniques, ﬁrst aid skills, and introduction to CPR techniques. Campers will receive a certiﬁcate of completion and a Junior Lifeguard T-Shirt. Camp completion does not certify participants for lifeguarding employment. Campers must pass the swim assessment in order to participate.

Jump Around (Grades K-6)

Sessions: 2 & 5 Cost: $265 Members/$305 Non Members Put a little spring in your step and join us for a week of jumping around as we bounce around San Diego. This camp will travel to Rockin’ Jump, Get Air, Pump It Up, Uptown Jungle or other jump park journeys. Each venue will require their waiver ﬁlled out for your camper. Kid Power Self-Defense (Grades 1-5)

Simple self-defense techniques will also be taught along with games, exercise and awards. Let us help you prepare your camper for tough situations, while building conﬁdence! Laser Tag (Grades 2-8)

Sessions: 5, 7, 10, & 11 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Enter UltraZone, the ultimate laser tag adventure in San Diego! Be transported to a futuristic other world while engaging in 2 to 3 games per day! Campers will focus on team objectives – scoring points and capturing your opponents’ bases. Campers must be at least 7 years old.

LEGO® Coding - NEW! (Grades 2-6)

Session: 1 Cost: $290 Members/$334 Non Members Build and program robots using the new LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups,

program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun.

Session: 10 Cost: $310 Members/$357 Non Members Discovering all underwater animals in their natural habitats as we explore the ocean and other bodies of water. Join us while we snorkel and paddle board with the pros of Aqua Adventures. This camp will also be traveling to Birch Aquarium and the Children’s Pool to get some hands on experience. Red Hot Robots - NEW! (Grades K-6)

Session: 11 Cost: $300 Members/$345 Non Members Join Mad Science for an introduction to robots! Throughout the week, campers will become robot engineers as they build a unique motorized robot that transforms into four unique creatures, each increasing in diﬃculty. Discover the inner workings of robots by experimenting with circuits, gears, sensors and power supplies. Learn about robot programming and the diﬀerent tasks robots perform in our world. Experiment with sound sensing, line tracking and solar powered robots. Campers will participate in hands-on science activities Monday-Friday.

Science Lab (Grades K-5)

Session: 7 Cost: $270 Members/$311 Non Members Join us in conducting experiments that give campers the opportunity to participate in real scientiﬁc exploration that will ignite their curiosity about the world. SeaWorld (Grades K-6)

We will be traveling oﬀ-site to fun spots like the Zoo, USS Midway Museum, the Waterfront Park and beautiful La Jolla Shores or other sunny San Diego places. Sports Fever (Grades 2-6)

SRSRC Camps Mission Statement

The SRSRC Camp program is dedicated to fostering development in children in areas such as social interactions, self-respect, and self-eﬃcacy in a positive and safe environment, while always ensuring that each child is treated in a respectful and caring manner.

Camper Readiness How do you determine if a child is eligible for a camp?

Campers must be at least 5 years old by the first day of the session for which they are enrolled, potty trained, and be in the grade range specified for the camp in which they are registering. Our Aviary location offers camps for kindergarten through 8th grade. Our Aviary location does not offer camps for preschool, transitional kindergarten, or high school grades. We do not make exceptions. SRSRC requires a copy of the camper’s birth certificate to be uploaded into the family’s CampBrain account for all campers entering kindergarten to verify age eligibility for camps. Many of our camps have age or grade requirements determined by our vendors. This may be due to equipment used or other variables. For specific questions about age requirements of camps, please contact the camp directors.

Is my child ready for summer camps?

Summer camps are a wonderful experience that enrich the lives of youth. It is important that the camper is ready for the experience to make their time at camp successful and

Things to think about when determining if your child is ready for the camp environment includes, but is not limited to, the following: Does your child put his or her own clothes on without assistance? Does your child listen to instructions? Does your child ask an adult for help when needed? Does your child perform all toileting independently? Does your child feel comfortable in loud and busy environments? Does your child cooperate with his or her playmates? Does your child respond reasonably well to changes? Does your child enjoy making friends? These questions should be asked by the parents in order to assist with determining readiness. If the answers are primarily “no,” then it might not be the right time for your child to get the most out of a camp experience. That’s okay! Each child is diﬀerent and camps may not be the right ﬁt for every child or at every stage of life. Campers may feel more comfortable being able to ask an adult for help, when he or she can adapt to changes, and when he or she is able to follow instructions. This is important in setting up campers for success.

If the answers are “yes,” the camper may be better prepared for a happy, enjoyable experience in the camp environment, and get more out of what the camp day has to oﬀer. Pool time is more fun when the camper can change independently and go straight to the activity, free choice activities are better with cooperation skills and being able to handle a loud environment, and the group setting can be more enjoyable when a child likes making new friends.

My child has special needs. Will this camp be a good fit?

Our camp activities may be physically and/or emotionally demanding at times, such as games involving a lot of movement, directions needing a lot of attention, and social interactions with many other individuals. Our goal is for campers to have a fulﬁlling experience. If you have any questions regarding your child’s readiness for camp or camp ﬁt, feel free to contact a Camp Director to have your questions answered. We would love to speak with you ahead of time to help you evaluate whether our camp environment is right for your camper.

Registration Process Do you accept a deposit for registration?

Payment can either be made in full at the time of registration or a deposit can be made with installments scheduled on predetermined days to pay the rest of the fees. Deposits are $50 for members/$75 non members per week long camp, and $10 per member/$20 per member per daily camp. Deposits are due at time of registration. Installments for Summer 2020 are scheduled for processing through our registration system April 10th, May 10th, June 10th, July 10th, and August 10th. Dates shown on your credit card statement may reﬂect diﬀerently depending on weekend dates and time of processing.

What types of fees are there for registration?

Each camp has a registration fee. Fees will vary depending on membership status (member or non-member) and whether extended care is selected. Other miscellaneous fees include optional meal deal card, optional goodies card, etc.

Does SRSRC offer financial assistance?

Unfortunately, we are unable to oﬀer ﬁnancial assistance.

Do you offer any discounts?

During the registration period for 2020 camps, the ﬁrst 25 campers that register using the discount code “SUMMER” at check-out will receive a 5% discount. This discount does not apply to add-ons, such as goodies cards, meal deal cards, etc. What is the SRSRC Camp refund policy?

If SRSRC cancels a camp, we will provide a full refund for you and you will be notified within 5 days of the camp start date so that other arrangements can be made. 14 Days or more prior to the first day of Camp - SRSRC will grant a refund minus $50.00 of the original deposit for that camp week. The Daily Camps will be a $10.00 processing fee per day. 13-8 Days prior to first day of Camp - SRSRC will refund 50% of registration fee. 7 Days prior to the first day of Camp - SRSRC will not grant a refund. If SRSRC cancels a camp, a full refund will be provided. Refunds requested on the same day of signing up for camps will follow the

Campers will not be able to transfer camps unless requested, authorized and approved by 12:00noon the Thursday prior to the beginning of the camp session. Once the camp session starts, campers will ONLY be transferred into The Daily Camps for whatever reason necessary, unless prior approval by a camp director has been granted. All transfers for week long camps will be assessed a $25.00 transfer fee. The Daily Camps will be assessed a $10.00 transfer fee per day.

Why can’t I see the camp I want for my child when I try to register?

You will not be able to see camps during the registration process when your child does not meet the registration requirements, such as grade level, or when the camp and its waiting list are full.

Can I ask to see who is registered for certain camps?

We are unable to tell you which campers are registered for speciﬁc camps. Part of the camp experience includes making new camp friends and connections.

Can my camper and his/her friend be in the same group during the day?

Each individual camp usually stays together in a large group during a majority of the day;

however, some camps do divide into groups for activities or ﬁeld trips. We may group campers based on age and/or ability, in which case we may not always be able to keep friends in the same group. We try to keep friends together, but we also encourage campers to make additional new friends.

What if the camp I want for my child is already full? Is there a waiting list? Can you open more spots?

Our online registration is open to all and you may add your camper to the online waiting list. Camps that are full and oﬀering a waiting list will show up when you log in to the CampBrain registration system. Please continue to check back frequently by logging into the registration system to see if a spot has opened up for your camper. We will do our best to notify parents from the waiting list when a spot becomes available. For many camps we are unable to open more spots due to capacity restraints such as transportation and vendor requirements.

I only need to send my camper a few days per week. Will you prorate?

We believe that a majority of our camps require a full week’s participation in order to be the most valuable experience. We also pay our vendors and staﬀ by the week, and need accurate total numbers of participants prior to

34 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 the start of camp. For these reasons, we do not prorate camps. If partial weeks are needed, the best option is The Daily Camps at the Aviary Summer Camp program.

If you drop off your camper during A.M. Extended Care between the hours of 6:30 – 8:30 a.m., you should bring your child to the indoor lounge / TV room. If you have not purchased extended care, your camper can be signed in starting at 8:30a.m. If you drop off your camper between 8:30 – 8:55 a.m., you may use our Drop-Off Zone located at the east end of our parking lot, or you may walk your camper to the correct sign-in station located on our basketball court. Please be aware that some off-site camps may leave prior to 9:00 a.m. and for these camps utilizing the Drop-Off Zone is not recommended. Pick up is 3:30 – 4:00 p.m., and your camper will be located on the basketball court. If you have purchased extended care, you may

pick up your camper between 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. from P.M. Extended Care. At this time, your child will either be on the basketball court, playground, patio, or in the indoor lounge / TV room.

Do I need to bring my ID to pick up my camper?

Yes. Camp staﬀ reserve the right to request identiﬁcation from any parent/guardian or other individual picking up a camper. This is for safety purposes.

Who is authorized to pick up my camper?

Primary adults listed on the registration account and those listed on the camper’s health history form may pick up the camper. Camp staﬀ reserve the right to request the individual picking up to present a picture I.D. If someone not listed on the Camper Health History Form will be picking up for the day, you may make note of the name of the individual picking up on the sign-in and out sheet with your child’s camp counselor. Individuals picking up your camper must be at least 18 years of age.

What if I need to add or delete someone from my authorized pick-up list?

Please make the necessary changes on your camper’s health history on your online camp registration account. If you have diﬃculties

If the change needs to be made the day of, then please notate the information on the sign in sheet during sign in that day, as well as verbally notify your child’s camp counselor.

Who provides transportation?

For our larger off-site camps, transportation will be provided by a professional bus company, Grand Pacific Charter. Under no circumstances does our transportation provider permit more passengers than the maximum allowed for the number of seats available on any one of their motor coaches. In addition, for smaller camps SRSRC vans will be used to allow for the safest means of transportation. Our drivers are required to have a valid driver’s license and be insured, maintain a good driving record, and hold current certification in first aid and CPR.

Do you provide transportation between camp and home?

No, we do not pick up campers from home or drop oﬀ campers to their home.

What are the safety procedures and camp rules during transportation?

When using transportation by bus or van for an SRSRC camp, we follow strict procedures recommended by ACA. These procedures include items such as having a camp counselor be the first person off of the bus before campers are allowed outside of the bus. Campers on the bus will always be supervised by camp staff. We always carry SRSRC communication devices (such as SRSRC cellular phones and/or walkie talkies), first aid supplies, camp roster, as well as copies of camper health history forms in order to ensure a safe trip. SRSRC does not use private vehicles for transportation. BUS/VAN RULES 1. Always follow the staff's directions. 2. Always wear a seatbelt in the vans and when provided on the bus. 3. No turning around. Backs on backs and seats on seats. 4. No standing up unless a counselor tells you to when the van/bus is completely stopped. 5. Do not touch the door locks, handles, lights, or air conditioner vents. 6. Do not distract the driver - use a quiet voice. 7. In case of an accident, listen to the counselors. Follow their instructions on

What time do camps leave for off-site trips?

Buses/vans begin to leave around 9:00 a.m. unless otherwise specified. Camps leave at staggered times throughout the morning. Please ask your child’s camp counselors for specific departure times and check the camp agendas posted on the website at www.srsrc.com. It is extremely important that campers arrive at camp no later than 8:45a.m., unless otherwise specified. If a child is dropped off for a day camp program after the bus/van has departed, the parent is responsible for: transporting the child to the camp location (only if it is deemed feasible to do so by a Camp Director), delivering the child to the camp counselor, and reporting that the child is late and is joining the camp. This may not be feasible depending on the off-site location. If it is not feasible for the camper to meet the camp group at the off-site location, the camper will stay on-site. At Aviary, campers will be placed in The Daily Camps. SRSRC Camps will not send a vehicle back to pick up late campers or deliver a child to the

program. There will also be no credits or refunds if a camper misses an oﬀ-site trip due to late drop oﬀ. Campers will arrive back to camp usually between 2:00p.m. and 4:00p.m. depending on the camp agenda. There may be some camps scheduled to arrive back to camp later than 4:00p.m. Camp agendas will be posted online prior to the start of the camp session.

What if the vans/bus will be late?

If there are any changes or emergencies that may affect the arrival times of buses/vans back to camp, parents may be notified by email, by phone call, push notification, or by the posting of a sign at the individual camp station, depending on the circumstance.

What if my camper is going to be absent?

What if I am going to be late picking up my camper?

Camp Hours are 8:30am-4:00pm. It is suggested that you contact the Front Desk at 271-6222 and notify staff that you will be late to pick up. You may choose to add extended care for the week either over the phone or online for week long camps. You may add extended care for the day for The Daily Camps and Mini Camps only. Extended care must be added before 4:00p.m. to avoid a late fee. If your camper is not registered for extended care the following policy applies. First time offense for a late camper pick-up past 4:15pm is a flat fee of $12 (this includes The Daily Camps and Mini Camp). For any following

oﬀense (2nd time or more) you will be charged the cost of weekly extended care. The cost will be $35 per week for members, $45 per week for non-members, and $12 per day for The Daily Camps and Mini Camp. If you are late past the end of camp extended care, which ends at 6:30pm, you will be charged $1.00 per minute for every minute past 6:30pm per child. If the child is not picked up by 6:30p.m., we refer to his/her emergency information and begin calling numbers listed. If by 7:30p.m., we have not heard from a parent or emergency contact, we have no other alternative and are obligated to turn the child over to Child Protective Services.

What if I need to drop off my camper late or pick up my camper early?

Please communicate the details with your child’s camp counselors for the week for drop-off and pick-up. Make arrangements at least 1 day in advance. It is extremely important that campers arrive at camp no later than 8:45 a.m. every day, unless otherwise specified. If a child is dropped off for a day camp program after the bus/van has departed, the parent is responsible for: transporting the child to the camp location, delivering the child to

38 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 the camp counselor, and reporting that the child is late and is joining the camp. This may not be feasible depending on the off-site location and must be approved by the Camp Director. SRSRC will not send a vehicle back to pick up late campers or deliver a child to the program. There will also be no credits or refunds if a camper is dropped off late, misses the off-site trip, or is picked up early. Please contact the counselor or the camp director prior to needing an early pick-up. If you must pick up your child due to an emergency, please contact the front office, who can relay your message to the camp director or lead staff.

What if I need before and/or after care for my camper?

Aviary Summer Camps Before care is oﬀered from 6:30 – 8:30 a.m. and after care is oﬀered until 6:30 p.m. for an additional fee, which can be paid at the time of registration. This can be added on after the original sign up by contacting the front desk or added online.

Am I required to sign my camper in and out daily?

SRSRC requires that all children are to be properly signed in and out by an adult age 18 or older, so that children can be properly

assigned to SRSRC staﬀ in the morning and properly signed out to the adult after camp. Unfortunately, siblings and others under the age of 18 may not sign out a camper.

Can my teenager sign him/herself out?

Participants of the Aviary Teen Camps ( 6th - 8th grade) will be allowed to sign him/herself in and out with a Camper Release Form completed/signed by the parents. Campers with a release form are expected to sign in between 8:30am and 9:00am and will not be allowed to sign out until the end of the camp day at 4:00pm. Campers who sign themselves out are not to loiter in the lobby. Those who are members may utilize the facility.

What is the pick-up procedure if there is an emergency at camp?

If there is an emergency at camp, such as a ﬁre, lockdown, etc., we will notify the parents by email, push notiﬁcation, or phone call. We will let the parents know when it is safe to come pick up their camper and provide parents with further instructions.

Preparing for Camp How can I get a camp daily schedule?

The camp daily schedules are posted on the

These schedules are subject to change. The schedule gives you an idea of what your camper will be doing in order to be prepared for their activities.

What should my camper wear to camp?

Campers are required to wear closed-toe shoes, such as tennis shoes. Campers may bring sandals to wear at the pool or beach, but must wear closed-toe shoes during all other camp activities. Skirts and dresses should not be worn to camp. We will be engaging in activities that require running and some activities that may get messy, so we suggest that campers wear clothing appropriate for their camp activities. If a camper is participating in an oﬀ-site camp, the camper must wear an SRSRC camp T-shirt. On-site campers are also encouraged to wear their SRSRC camp T-shirt. If an oﬀ-site camper does not have a camp T-shirt, they will be given one for a fee of $5.00 to be charged to your CampBrain account and the parent picking up child will receive a no T-Shirt form.

How do I get camp T-shirts for my camper?

You will receive one free shirt for each full

week of camp sign-up (3 max per camper). You may also purchase extra shirts at the Aviary front desk for a fee of $5.00. If a camper in an oﬀ-site camp forgets his or her camp shirt, one will be provided and the camper’s online account will be charged $5.00 if he or she has already received their maximum allotment of camp shirts. The parent picking up child will receive a no T-Shirt form.

What should my camper bring to camp?

Campers must bring a lunch, a drink, and a snack daily. On-site campers at Aviary Camps have the opportunity to bring money to buy lunch at our Snack Shack Monday – Thursday. Oﬀ-site campers cannot buy lunch, and must bring a lunch, a drink, and a snack unless otherwise noted on the daily schedule. On Fridays, Aviary campers will be provided a lunch which includes pizza, juice, and chips. Please send food with your camper that is non-perishable and does not require heating, as we cannot accommodate with refrigeration and heating. Campers should bring a snack daily, as many camps take a snack break in the morning. Campers should also bring water to stay hydrated throughout the day. Campers should bring a swimsuit and towel since swimming is oﬀered daily. Sunscreen will be provided for campers; however, they can

40 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 bring their own to use, and are also encouraged to bring a hat and a sweatshirt. Campers are encouraged to keep items in a backpack; everything should be labeled.

Should my camper bring money to camp?

Campers should not bring money to camp unless they are buying lunch on-site, or if a notice has been sent to the parents that an oﬀ-site camp will be allowed to buy souvenirs during a ﬁeld trip.

What shouldn’t my camper bring to camp?

Expensive clothing, jewelry, CD players, iPods, money (unless otherwise speciﬁed), toys, games, cards, alcohol, drugs, personal sports equipment (unless required by SRSRC), vehicles, animals, weapons, cell phones, etc. SRSRC is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Campers are responsible for the belongings that they bring with them to camp. Certain items, if brought to camp, may result in immediate removal from the camp, such as weapons, alcohol, and drugs. If cell phones are brought to camp, they must be kept in the child’s backpack with the exception of Teen Camps during approved electronics time. SRSRC is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of cell phones and electronics, nor the content accessed on these devices.

Camp Food & Snacks Should I pack water and a snack for my child?

There will be a snack break in the morning during camp for most camps. Snack at this time is not provided by SRSRC. Though we provide snack time and water breaks, it is ultimately the parent’s responsibility to send enough ﬂuids with the child for the day. Only extended care campers will receive a camp provided afternoon snack.

Can my camper buy lunch during camp?

If your camper is on-site then he/she may buy lunch at our snack shack. If the camper is oﬀ-site he/she must pack a lunch. On Fridays, a lunch is provided, which may include pizza, a drink, chips or other items. Campers should always pack a snack and a drink in addition to their lunch. Vending machines are not allowed to be used during camp hours and campers may not make purchases from the front oﬃce during camp hours.

When is the Snack Shack open?

Snack shack is open Monday through Thursday from 11:00am-2:00pm. Goodies

41 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 Cards can be purchased for $10 and Meal Deal Cards can be purchased for $28. These can be purchased at the time of online registration, purchased online up until the Friday prior to the start of the camp session, or at the front oﬃce. A goodies card allows the camper to make a-la-cart purchases. A Meal Deal Card is good for four lunches at the Snack Shack. Lunches are not able to be purchased by campers in a camp that is scheduled to have lunch at an oﬀ-site location.

What if my camper forgets his/her lunch?

Before off-site camps leave for their field trip, counselors check that campers have their lunches with them. If either an on-site or off-site camper forgets their lunch, a lunch will be provided and the parent picking up child will receive a no lunch form. A $10.00 fee will be assessed and charged to your CampBrain account.

Does the camp provide a snack?

We do not provide a snack for campers during the general camp day. Campers are encouraged to bring a morning snack from home daily. Campers in afternoon Extended Care will receive a camp provided snack between 4:30pm and 4:45pm.

What if my camper loses something at camp?

If a camper loses an item on-site, there are lost and found bins. If an item was left at the pool, please ask the lifeguard on duty if it may have been brought into the lifeguard oﬃce for safe keeping. There are also bins that are used daily at the camp stations that serve as individual camp lost and found bins after camp hours. Items will be emptied out of the camp bins at the end of each session/week. Labeling items, keeping items together in a backpack, and not bringing expensive items are a good way to help prevent loss. SRSRC is not responsible for items that are lost, broken, or stolen.

What camps have additional waivers? How do I get them?

Some camps require additional waivers to be completed for the vendors that we utilize. Under the camp descriptions, it will be noted if a waiver is required. These waivers will also be available at the front desk before the camp session begins. Waivers will also be available Monday morning of the session by Front Desk, Drop-Oﬀ Zone, morning Extended Care Staﬀ, and Counselors.

What do I do with completed waivers?

Please upload the completed waiver to the appropriate camper paperwork spot in your CampBrain account. This is the preferred

42 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 method of waiver submission. This ensures that we have the waivers prior to your camper’s arrival to camp. Additionally, waivers can be turned in to the camp counselors during morning sign-in or e-mailed to waivers@srsrc.com. Campers must have the waiver completely ﬁlled out by a parent in order to participate. There cannot be any exceptions made.

Camper Supervision Who is watching my camper?

The majority of our camp staff is comprised of college students and adults within the child care career setting. Some members of our staff may be credentialed teachers, some are in college majoring in elementary education, some are already working at schools in local school districts, and some work with our youth programs year round. Of our staff, at least 80% are 18 years of age or older. All counselors are trained in CPR and first aid. Some may have lifeguarding certification or other relevant special certifications. Our staff is trained to use the “rule of three,” to avoid situations in which they may be one on one with a camper. All of our staff is devoted to working with and providing

care for the children in our camps.

What training does the camp staff receive?

All new camp staff members are required to attend the equivalent of four to five days of training prior to working in the camp program. Many of our camp staff have been campers at SRSRC when they were younger, some have had multiple summers of experience with us, and some are year round employees of SRSRC in the Youth Programs Department. Leadership staff also attend training sessions prior to the start of camp. During the training sessions, camp counselors learn the policies, the procedures, leadership skills, how to properly perform head counts, how to sign campers in and out, and their responsibilities. Training sessions also focus on developing and improving interaction skills with children and how to respond to disruptive behavior in a positive way.

Can staff baby-sit?

Our camp counselors work well with children, and it is our policy that staff members can only babysit for those who are in our SRSRC camp program if it is something set up on their own, and any babysitting done by staff is not affiliating with our camp program or any SRSRC program.

Can camp staff accept presents?

Our staff members are very dedicated and work hard; however, it is our policy that camp staff cannot accept gratuities. If instead you wish to offer feedback on a staff member’s job well done please contact the Camp Director.

Camper Behavior

How many staff will be watching my child?

We implement the following ratios, which are recommended by the American Camp Association. However, there are some times where there may be exceptions to the ratios depending on the camp environment, especially with camps that oﬀer enrollment for multiple age groups.

What are the camp rules?

1. Be Respectful & Honest. Example: Respect others, respect equipment, be honest and tell the truth. 2. Be Responsible. Example: Make good decisions, use equipment the correct way. 3. Keep your body, objects & unkind

words to yourself. Example: Keep your hands and feet to yourself and only say positive words. 4. Stay with your Group. Example: Always ask a counselor when you need to use the restroom or get a drink of water. Never leave your group or buddy. 5. Listen and Follow Directions. Example: Listen when counselors and others are speaking, ask questions if you don’t know and follow directions the FIRST time asked. 6. Have FUN!!

What happens if my camper has a discipline problem at camp?

Our camp staff is trained to deal with discipline issues in a respectful and positive manner in order to resolve the misbehavior. It is not unusual for a camper to test their limits and our staff is trained to handle these situations. Our staff speaks with the camper, allows the camper to share his/her view of the issue and any relevant information, allows the camper to take time out to think about their actions and how it affects the camp experience, and then let the child return to the activity. If misbehavior is recurrent or the misbehavior is more severe or disruptive, the child may

44 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 either be asked to sit out during an activity or the parent may be called to pick up the child. Some acts may result in immediate suspension or expulsion of the child from the camp program including but not limited to: fighting, intentionally harming others, theft, and possession of weapons or drugs. Our policies do not grant refunds or credits for missed days of the camp program due to a behavior issue. The following steps are generally used for our discipline plan: 1. The camper is given a verbal warning, which may or may not involve a timeout depending on severity. 2. The camper is given a written behavior report, which one copy is given to the parent and another copy is given to the camp director. With a behavior report, the camper will sit out during part of an activity and reflect upon their actions with the guidance of a staff member. 3. If the camper receives three behavior reports, suspension or expulsion from the camp program may result depending on the severity. We do our best to work with the camper to help resolve the issue before implementing a suspension or expulsion.

What happens if my camper’s behavior causes his/her removal from camp?

Our goal is for campers to have a successful and fulfilling time at camp. We wish the best experience for each child, which means taking into account how disruptive behavior may impact others’ experience at camp. If our camp is not a fit at this time, and the camper must be removed from camp, the camper’s parent will be notified to pick up the camper whether on-site or off-site on a field trip. Campers who are removed from the camp program may enroll in camps again one year from the removal date pending a successful meeting with and approval by the camp director. The one year period gives the camper the opportunity to grow and develop their skills prior to enrolling in any SRSRC affiliated youth program.

Camper Health & Safety What if my camper needs to take medication during the camp day?

The Camp Director, a Coordinator, a lead counselor, or staﬀ member with Camp Director authorization, will administer your child's medication as directed. In order to administer the medication, we must have the following:

45 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 The camper's medication needs to be brought to camp and given to the Camp Director or a Coordinator in a paper bag in its original container. Please label the bag with the camper's name, and camp. Please do not pack the medication in the child's backpack or in the child's lunch. The medication must be prescribed by a doctor and in its original prescription bottle with your child's name printed on the label. Include written instructions from a physician as per quantity, time to administer, any other directions, and written clearance giving SRSRC permission to administer the medication. Please specify if refrigeration is necessary. A completed medication release form must be completed every session or for the summer for campers who register for multiple sessions. This medication release form must be on ﬁle with the Camp Director before medication can be administered to your child. This form is available from the Camp Director or a Coordinator, as well as online in your CampBrain account. No over the counter medication will be administered unless approved on the Health History form or with parent's written consent.

5. Please pick up your child’s medication after the last session for which your camper is enrolled. If it is not picked up in a timely manner, SRSRC may dispose of the medication.

What if my camper needs special accommodations?

If your camper requires special accommodations, such as special medical needs, please contact the Camp Director prior to registering for camps to discuss if we are able to provide suitable accommodations for a successful camp experience. Our goal is for our campers to be successful and feel included at camp, however, we must also work within the limitations of our training and resources.

What if my camper is ill or injured while at camp?

If your child becomes ill during camp, we will contact the parent to pick the child up. If the legal guardian cannot be contacted, SRSRC staﬀ will begin contacting the emergency contacts listed on your child's medical form. Camp is not designed to handle ill children, so it is the parent's responsibility to pick his/her child up in a timely manner. Children who are showing signs or experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend camp. Not feeling

46 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 well may prevent a child from fully participating in, and enjoying, the camp experience. Sick campers also risk the health of other campers who wish to enjoy their own camp experience. If your child becomes injured while at camp, SRSRC staﬀ will take whatever steps necessary to obtain medical care for your child. For a minor injury an accident report will be ﬁlled out. For an injury that is believed to be beyond our scope, emergency personnel will be called or your child may be transported to the hospital in an SRSRC vehicle. Any expenses for routine or emergency medical care are the responsibility of the parent.

What is your lice policy?

We have a nit-free policy. If a child is found to have lice or nits, the parent will be called to pick the child up. Children will be able to return to the program once they are nit-free as seen by a lead staﬀ member.

Will sunscreen be applied to my camper throughout the day?

Sunscreen application times are in the morning, during snack time, during lunchtime, and in the afternoon. Sunscreen is also applied before any water activities, such as swimming. If you do not want sunscreen applied to your camper, or would like a speciﬁc type of

sunscreen applied, please have a note sent to the camper's camp counselor for the session and provide them with the speciﬁc sunscreen. At SRSRC, although we provide sunscreen to each camper, our camp counselors do not physically apply sunscreen to the campers, unless you ﬁll out a Sunscreen Waiver or give authorization during the registration process online. These waivers will be available with your child’s camp counselor and online in the forms section of your CampBrain account. Counselors will then do their best to assist your camper when applying sunscreen.

What is the camp's bathroom procedure?

On-site campers utilize the buddy system. Oﬀ-site campers are taken in groups with counselor supervision to a restroom that has been designated as being cleared for safety. No camper is to go to the restroom without a buddy or without a group.

What if I need to speak with my camper while he/she is at camp?

Some situations may arise in which it is necessary to get a hold of your child during camp. Please call the front desk staﬀ, and leave a message with them. They will do their best to relay the message to the appropriate camp counselors and notify your child.

How do I communicate with the SRSRC staff?

Communication between parents and the camp staff can either be informal or formal. We value communication with parents as it gives staff valuable insight. Vital information to relay to camp staff may include changes in the family, including: moving, hospitalization of a family member or friend, altercations in the parents' relationship, etc. Such factors may influence a camper's behavior and relationship with peers, so this information is beneficial to staff in order to best provide for the child's needs. All such information will be treated with the utmost confidence. Communication can occur through camp counselors, the camp director, or the coordinators. Information pertinent to your camper’s health, safety, or experience may be provided to select camp staff working directly with your child in addition to leadership staff.

Program Content Will there be camp evaluations?

We value your input and will send out an online survey to help us to evaluate our summer camp programs.

How do I find out if my camper will have a parent show or activity during the day?

Certain camps will have a parent performance, and some sports-related camps may even have a camper vs. parent’s game. Dates and times of these performances are listed on the website in the daily agendas of the camp. An email will also be sent out with information. Fliers are also posted at the camp's station, may be posted online or emailed, and ﬂiers are also handed out to parents during the week.

How much instruction will my camper receive during his/her sports camp?

For a description of all the camp activities for the sports camp, please see the camp's agenda. Campers will participate in a variety of activities related to the sport that is the focus of the camp. Our camps are geared towards recreational levels, and have the goals of fostering cooperation between peers and learning new skills.

What if it rains?

In the event that it does rain, SRSRC staﬀ will make a decision based on the intensity of the weather. If the decision is made that the rain does impact previously made plans, staﬀ will utilize other appropriate parts of our facility or make alternative plans or trips than what were

48 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 previously scheduled. For some camps, the goal is to enjoy the water so a little rain may not cause a change in plans.

Pool & Beach Safety Where do campers change into their swimsuits?

Campers change into their swimsuits in our locker rooms while on-site. When off-site campers will use a locker room, changing area, or restroom that has been deemed safe by camp staff while offsite. The changing areas are okayed by staff and then monitored for safety (typically auditorily) while campers are utilizing them. Campers must be able to change in and out of swim attire independently.

What if my camper does not want to swim or forgot his/her swimsuit?

If a camper does not bring his/her swimsuit, they will not participate in swimming. If a camper does not want to swim he/she may be provided an alternate activity choice. During swim time, campers may also have other options depending on the camp ranging from games, art cart activities, playground time, or a movie. Some of our activities besides swimming will involve water and clothes may still get wet, so dress your

camper in clothes in which they can get messy.

What if my camper can’t swim?

SRSRC lifeguarding and camp personnel perform a swim assessment to determine a camper’s swimming abilities. This assessment consists of one pool length (approximately 25 yards) across the pool in any style the camper feels most comfortable. Those that pass are allowed to swim in all areas of the pool, except for the lap lanes. If a child passes, but staﬀ notice the child becomes fatigued or unable to swim with the same strength as before, staﬀ may have the child stay in the shallow area. Campers who choose not to take the swim assessment, do not satisfactorily complete the swim assessment, or become unable to swim safely, receive an orange bracelet and remain in the designated shallow areas.

How often do campers take the swim assessment?

Swim assessments are given on Mondays or on the ﬁrst day that the camper chooses to swim for the week. Campers may only take

49 - SRSRC SUMMER CAMPS 2020 the swim assessment once per week. We do not oﬀer swim assessments at other times, such as a pre-camp swim assessment. A camper who does not pass the swim assessment has the opportunity to take the swim assessment the next session that they attend camp. This gives the camper time to progress and work on becoming a stronger swimmer before retaking the swim assessment. Campers who pass the swim assessment may still be asked to stay in the shallow area at times depending on certain factors such as fatigue.

How deep are the campers allowed to go into the water at the beach?

Campers may be asked to pass a swim assessment at some of the outside organizations we use for camps to determine how deep they can go in the ocean or to determine suitability for activities. SRSRC also conducts an informal swim assessment to determine the camper’s skill level of swimming to determine how far in the ocean they can go. Restrictions may also be placed based on the grade level of the campers. The supervision at the beach consists of at least one staﬀ on shore and one staﬀ in the water. Head counts are conducted throughout the time campers are at the beach.
