We are excited for your family to join us for the 2021 school year camp program at Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club. Campers entering kindergarten through 8th grade in the fall of 2020 are eligible to register. Campers must be turning 5 by September 1, 2020 and must be potty trained. Camps are open to members and non-members of Scripps Ranch Swim and Racquet Club. Please see the registration section of the Parent Handbook for more information. Our camps are accredited through the American Camp Association and meet or exceed the standards set forth by this accrediting organization. We are proud of our programs and hope to offer your child(ren) an amazing school year full of fun and engaging programming. Our camps also operate under the CDSS Emergency Child Care Waiver Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) for camp programs. Please take a few minutes to review the School Year Parent Handbook, which will answer many of your questions about our school year programs. 2021 School Year Camp Session Dates
April: April 12th-30th May: May 3rd-27th* June: June 1st-15th *Our School Year Camp Program will follow the San Diego Unified School District traditional school year calendar of 2020-21 and will be closed on holidays and non-instructional days. During days in which school is not in session due to a holiday or non-instructional day, many times Mini-Camps, Winter Camps or Spring Camps may be offered. These camp options are separate from our School Year Camp Program. *Holidays the School Year Camp Program will be closed and not in session are listed below. Statement of Risk Related to COVID-19
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. By visiting SRSRC, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 for you and your camper.
Each individual must weigh and evaluate their comfort level with the risks associated with being around others, while taking into consideration important additional risk factors, including but not limited to, current or chronic health concerns or a weakened immune system. Our School Year Camp Programs are modified to reflect the guidelines and regulations proposed by the state of California, CDC, CDPH and the San Diego County Office of Education in regards to COVID-19 best practices.

Our 5 day camp option is designed so that you can register your camper for an entire month, Monday-Friday! Our Monday-Thursday schedule will allow for afterschool care to start at the end of school day till 5:30pm. Our Friday full day camp option will operate following a modified schedule from 7:30am-5:30pm. Campers must be attending kindergarten through eighth, be fully potty trained, and 5 years old to be enrolled. We do not accept children attending transitional kindergarten. Monday through Thursday, campers will be picked up and walked over from Miramar Ranch Elementary and Marshall Middle School to the Aviary club. We currently are unable to shuttle the children. A van will go to both schools to pick up all backpacks and
belongings of each child. Two or more staff will walk with each group back to the club to start with fun afternoon activities. Parents may drop off their children from other schools we are currently serving, as we are not able to walk from these schools to Aviary: Dingeman, Ellen Brown Scripps, Jerabek, Innovations Academy & St. Gregory. Campers will have the opportunity to explore with structured activities through: music, STEAM project-based projects, art, physical activity, social free play and more! We will also include time for facilitating distance learning options, for example, monitoring students during their academic Zoom meetings or classwork, homework or projects, during the Friday full day. Our camp will be a truly innovative experience by combining education, socialization, structured routines and creative opportunities that will allow all campers to explore their passions, build friendships, keep up with their studies as well as discover new interests in a safe and comfortable environment.

Our 4 day camp option is designed so that you can register your camper for an entire month, Monday-Thursday! Our Monday-Thursday schedule will allow for afterschool care to start at the end of school day till 5:30pm. Our Friday camp option is designed so that you can register your camper for an entire month, each Friday! Our full day camp option will operate following a modified schedule from 7:30am-5:30pm. Campers will be able to attend their online learning per their class schedule between fun activities. Daily Mini Camp Program Cost: $75 Member/$94 Non Member
Dates: Memorial Day - May 28th Our full day camp option will operate following a modified schedule from 7:30am-5:30pm* with staggered drop-off and pick-up times. Introduction Welcome
Welcome to the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club Camp Program! We share the goal of providing a safe environment in which children can have fun while learning and enjoying new experiences, while also continuing to develop their own skills and interests. Our staff is dedicated to providing quality camp experiences to youth, and we understand that each child is unique and has their individual rate of development. The SRSRC School Year Camp Program is dedicated to improving participant's quality of life and helping children reach their full potential. We are dedicated to continuing the growth of your child and to creating friendships and memories that will last forever. We look forward to having your child become a part of our camps. We know that this is an uncertain time, and we appreciate your trust in our programs. We continue to monitor the CDC, State, and County guidelines in regards to COVID-19 best practices. Please read through this information guide prior to your child’s camp experience, as it may answer many of the frequently asked
questions about our program this summer. If we have not been able to answer your camp-related questions in this document, please contact a Camp Director.
Program Goals
Beyond safety and supervision, our goal is to provide every child with special, positive, and growth-oriented opportunities. SRSRC camps are dedicated to meeting the following goals. Campers will: ★ Goal: Be provided with a safe environment in which campers feel comfortable in trying new things. Outcome: Campers will feel comfortable with staff and participate in activities offered throughout the camp day. ★ Goal: Feel accepted by peers and staff as an important contributor to our camp community. Outcome: Campers will share a summary of their camp experience during the day with staff or peers, at their own comfort level. ★ Goal: Develop independence and enhance decision making skills. Outcome: Campers will choose activities to participate in throughout the camp day. ★ Goal: Understand the importance of values such as cooperation and respect.

Camper Readiness How do you determine if a child is eligible for a camp?
Campers must be at least 5 years old by September 1, 2020 to be enrolled and fully potty trained. Our Aviary location offers camps for kindergarten through 8th grade. Our Aviary location does not offer camps for preschool, transitional kindergarten or high school grades. SRSRC requires a copy of the camper’s birth

certificate to be uploaded into the family’s CampBrain account for all campers entering kindergarten to verify age eligibility for camps.
Is my child ready for a school year camp program?
Camps are a wonderful experience that enrich the lives of youth. It is important that the camper is ready for the experience to make their time at camp successful and enjoyable. Things to think about when determining if your child is ready for the camp environment includes, but is not limited to, the following: ★ Does your child put his or her own clothes on without assistance? ★ Does your child listen to instructions? ★ Does your child ask an adult for help when needed? ★ Does your child perform all toileting independently? ★ Does your child feel comfortable in loud and busy environments? ★ Does your child cooperate with his or her playmates? ★ Does your child respond reasonably well to changes? ★ Does your child enjoy making friends? ★ Is your child able to follow directions related to hand washing hygiene, wearing a face mask as appropriate, and keeping their hands to themselves?
These questions should be asked by the parents in order to assist with determining readiness. If the answers are primarily “no,” then it might not be the right time for your child to get the most out of a camp experience. That’s okay! Each child is different and camps may not be the right fit for every child or at every stage of life. Campers may feel more comfortable being able to ask an adult for help, when he or she can adapt to changes, and when he or she is able to follow instructions. This is important in setting up campers for success. If the answers are “yes,” the camper may be better prepared for a happy, enjoyable experience in the camp environment, and get more out of what the camp day has to offer. Pool time is more fun when the camper can change independently and go straight to the activity, free choice activities are better with cooperation skills and being able to handle a loud environment, and the group setting can be more enjoyable when a child likes making new friends.
My child has special needs. Will this camp be a good fit?
Our camp activities may be physically and/or emotionally demanding at times, such as games involving a lot of movement, directions needing a lot of attention, and social

interactions with many other individuals. Our goal is for campers to have a fulfilling experience. If you have any questions regarding your child’s readiness for camp or camp fit, feel free to contact a Camp Director to have your questions answered. We would love to speak with you ahead of time to help you evaluate whether our camp environment is right for your camper.
Registration Process Do you accept a deposit for registration?
Payment of a non-refundable deposit must be made at the time of registration for month-long camps. You may choose to pay the balance in full at registration or request installments, which will be processed on the 5th and 20th of each camp month. Non-refundable deposits for month-long camps are $100 for members/$150 non members. Non-refundable deposits for Friday Full day month-long camps are $50 for members/$75 non members. Payment must be made in full for the daily Mini Camps.
What if my installment payment is declined?
If your credit card is declined, another card on file in CampBrain will be charged. A staff member may contact you for updated information. Please keep your credit card information up to date. Campers may not attend camp if there is an outstanding balance, including unpaid balances on a membership account.
What are the installment processing dates?
Installments for School Year Camps 2021 are scheduled for processing through our registration system on the 5th and 20th of each month. Dates shown on your credit card statement may reflect differently depending on weekend dates and time of processing.
Are you processing installments during the COVID-19 pandemic?
We are currently processing installment payments, since the services are set to occur in the future.
What types of fees are there for registration?
Each camp has a registration fee. Fees will vary depending on membership status (member or non-member) and whether any other options are selected. Each camp also

has a non-refundable deposit.
Does SRSRC offer financial assistance?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial assistance. What is the SRSRC Camp refund policy?
If SRSRC cancels a camp, we will provide a full refund for you and you will be notified within 5 days of the camp start date so that other arrangements can be made. If you need to cancel an upcoming camp, please request a cancellation 14 days or more prior to the start of the camp month. A refund minus the non-refundable deposit will be processed for month-long camps. A cancellation fee of $15 per camper per day will be assessed for daily Mini Camps. What is the SRSRC camp transfer policy?
A camp transfer request may be made to transfer a camper from one month to another. Transfer requests must be made 14 days or more prior to the camp month. All transfers will be assessed a $25.00 transfer fee per camper for month-long camps. A transfer fee of $10 will be assessed per camper per day for daily Mini Camps.
Will you be open the rest of the
2020-2021 School Year?
SRSRC School Year Camps will operate within the guidelines provided by the local and state authorities. Due to the changing nature of the current situation, and keeping the health and safety of our camp families and staff in mind, we will follow these guidelines and mandates up to and including any necessary discontinuation in programming. However, it is our hope that once we open camps we will be able to complete the school year season.
Why can’t I see the camp I want for my child when I try to register?
You will not be able to see camps during the registration process when your child does not meet the registration requirements, such as grade level, or when the camp and its waiting list are full. We are beginning the registration process in a waiting list mode in order to ensure that we are able to meet our participant minimums.
Can I ask to see who is registered for certain camps?
We are unable to tell you which campers are registered for specific camps. Part of the camp experience includes making new camp friends and connections.
Can my camper and his/her friend be in

the same group during the day?
Each individual camp usually stays together in a small group during a majority of the day; however, depending on camp needs and physical distancing guidelines, camp may divide into groups for activities. We may group campers based on grades, staggered registered times, distance learning schedules, ability, and/or households, in which case we may not always be able to keep friends in the same group. We try to keep friends together, but we also encourage campers to make additional new friends.
What if the camp month I want for my child is already full? Is there a waiting list? Our online registration is open to all and you may add your camper to the online waiting list. Camps that are full and offering a waiting list will show up when you log in to the CampBrain registration system. Please continue to check back frequently by logging into the registration system to see if a spot has opened up for your camper. We would also encourage that you email a camp director. We will do our best to notify parents from the waiting list when a spot becomes available.
What is your registration priority policy?
Due to the current circumstances surrounding
the COVID-19 pandemic, we foresee a limited number of spots being available. Priority will go to the participants who are currently enrolled in our School Year Camps and then those who were previously registered in any of our SRSRC Youth Children’s Programs for the school year of 2020-21.
Why do you have a registration priority policy?
Our goal is to accommodate all families within the community who need care during the school year. However, in the event that the relevant agencies limit our capacity significantly, we need a way to prioritize enrollment. We are a membership-based organization, which warrants member priority. We also serve local Scripps Ranch schools during the school year and we wish to provide those who may be a part of our school year programs with continued care.
I am an essential worker. Do I have priority?
First of all, thank you for your work during this unprecedented time! We will take into consideration the needs of essential workers, but cannot guarantee enrollment. Essential workers may be requested to complete a verification form.

Will my child(ren) be photographed or placed on social media?
Campers will only be photographed or videoed by a camp director during a camp project/activity for recognition of that camper or group or to be used for promotional purposes or to share with camp families. Please contact Mrs. Monica in writing if you would like to withdraw your photo/media permission at monica@srsrc.com. A new withdrawal request must be submitted at the start of each camp season.
Drop Off, Pick Up, & Transportation Where do I drop off my camper on Friday’s?
Camper drop off will be located in the lobby in front of the Big Room. A staff member will greet you and help direct you to the backpack area after sign in is complete. Campers will not be allowed to sign in prior to 7:30am. If you drop off your camper after 8:30 you may ask a front office staff member to radio the camps for their location before entering the camp.
Where do I pick up my camper?
Camper sign out will be located in the lobby in
front of the Big Room. Once properly signed out a lead staff will radio for your camper to meet you in the lobby. On Friday’s, a staff member will help direct you to the backpack area after sign out is complete to pick up your camper’s belongings. All belongings at the end of the week will be thrown away due to state guidelines.
Do I need to bring my ID to pick up my camper?
Yes. We require photo identification from ALL parents/guardians or other individuals picking up a camper. Please be ready to present photo identification at each pick up. This is for safety purposes.
Who is authorized to pick up my camper?
Primary adults listed on the registration account and those listed on the camper’s health history form may pick up the camper. Camp staff reserve the right to request the individual picking up to present a picture I.D. If someone not listed on the Camper Health History Form will be picking up for the day, you may make note of the name of the individual picking up on the sign-in and out sheet with a camp director. Individuals picking up your camper must be at least 18 years of age.

What if I need to add or delete someone from my authorized pick-up list?
Please make the necessary changes on your camper’s health history on your online camp registration account. If you have difficulties updating the necessary information, please contact the Front Desk for assistance at 858-271-6222. If the change needs to be made the day of, then please notate the information with a camp director.
Who provides transportation?
Our current school year camp program does not allow for transportation, unless it is in an emergency circumstance. Our drivers are required to have a valid driver’s license and be insured, maintain a good driving record, and hold current certification in first aid and CPR. Vehicle capacities will be followed.
Do you provide transportation between camp and home?
No, we do not pick up campers from home or drop off campers to their home.
What if my camper is going to be absent?
If your camper will be absent from camp, please call or e-mail the Camp Director by 8:00 a.m. There will be no credits or refunds

What if I am going to be late picking up my camper?
Please contact the Front Desk at 271-6222 and notify staff that you will be late to pick up. We appreciate your following the selected drop-off and pick-up times. Pick-ups that occur after 5:30pm will be assessed a fee of $1 per minute per camper. If a camper has not been picked up by 5:30pm we refer to his/her emergency information and begin calling numbers listed. If by 6:30p.m., we have not heard from a parent or emergency contact, we have no other alternative and are obligated to turn the child over to Child Protective Services.
What if I need to drop off my camper late or pick up my camper early?
Schedule options have been designed to be flexible for your schedule; however, in the event that a need arises for a change in your selected drop off time or pick up time, please confirm availability with a Camp Director. Make arrangements at least 1 day in advance.

If you must pick up your child due to an emergency, please contact the front office, who can relay your message to the camp director or lead staff.
What if I need before and/or after care for my camper?
The camp drop-off and pick-up options have been designed to provide you with flexibility to accommodate morning and afternoon schedules.
Am I required to sign my camper in and out daily?
SRSRC requires that all children are to be properly signed in and out by an adult age 18 or older, so that children can be properly assigned to SRSRC staff in the morning and properly signed out to the adult after camp. Unfortunately, siblings and others under the age of 18 may not sign out a camper. Due to COVID-19 related considerations, a camp director or lead staff may sign your child in and/or out for you to minimize the use of shared pens.
Can my teenager sign him/herself out?
Participants in 6th - 8th grade will be allowed to sign him/herself in and out with a Camper
Release Form completed/signed by the parents. Campers with a release form are expected to sign in at the selected sign-in time and sign-out at the selected sign-out time. Campers who sign themselves out must be picked up. This convenient option allows for the camper to sign out, while the parent waits in front of the facility.
What is the pick-up procedure if there is an emergency at camp?
If there is an emergency at camp, such as a fire, lockdown, etc., we will notify the parents by email, push notification, phone call, or mobile application. We will let the parents know when it is safe to come pick up their camper and provide parents with further instructions.
Preparing for Camp How can I get a camp agenda?
The camp monthly agenda will be posted on the camp portion of our website at www.SRSRC.com. Camp monthly agendas will be available at the front office. The front desk receptionist can make a copy of the schedule for you. These schedules are subject to change. The schedule gives you an idea of what your camper will be doing in order to be prepared for their activities. All activities and schedules are subject to change.

What should my camper wear to camp?
Campers are required to wear closed-toe shoes, such as tennis shoes. Campers must wear closed-toe shoes during camp activities. Skirts and dresses should not be worn to camp. We will be engaging in activities that require running and some activities that may get messy, so we suggest that campers wear clothing appropriate for their camp activities.
Who is required to wear a face covering at camp?
Currently, all adults must wear a face covering while at camp. This includes parents who are dropping off or picking up campers and staff. Each individual must have their own mask and may not share masks. Campers are required to wear a face covering while at camp. At certain times, when physical distancing is more feasible, such as during snack times, lunch time, and certain sitting activities where campers are unlikely to come within 6 feet of someone from outside of their household, campers may be allowed to remove their masks. Please note that face coverings will be worn for the majority of the cam day. Campers must wear face coverings as long as the current health orders mandates wearing face masks outside of the house when it is likely that they will come within 6
feet of someone from outside of their household. When the local or state governmental mandates do not require campers to wear masks, there may still be some activities in which SRSRC reserves the right to require face coverings. Campers may elect to wear a face covering for their own health and safety concerns regardless of the status of local and state mandates.
What should my camper bring to camp?
Campers are required to bring a face covering to camp. Campers will be assigned a cubby for the week to put their items. Campers must bring a morning snack, a lunch, an afternoon snack, and a drink daily. Please send food with your camper that is non-perishable and does not require heating, as we cannot accommodate with refrigeration and heating. Campers should also bring water to stay hydrated throughout the day. Lotion sunscreen will be provided for campers; however, they can bring their own to use, and are also encouraged to bring a hat and a sweatshirt. Campers are encouraged to keep items in a backpack; everything should be labeled.
Am I required to disinfect my campers belongings each day?

Yes. You are responsible for taking home your camper’s belongings each day to be cleaned and disinfected.
Should my camper bring money to camp?
Campers should not bring money to camp.
What shouldn’t my camper bring to camp?
Expensive clothing, jewelry, CD players, iPods, money (unless otherwise specified), toys, games, cards, alcohol, drugs, personal sports equipment (unless required by SRSRC), vehicles, animals, weapons, cell phones, etc. SRSRC is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Campers are responsible for the belongings that they bring with them to camp. Certain items, if brought to camp, may result in immediate removal from the camp, such as weapons, alcohol, and drugs. If cell phones are brought to camp, they must be kept in the child’s backpack. SRSRC is not responsible for the loss, theft, or damage of cell phones and electronics, nor the content accessed on these devices.
Camp Food & Snacks Should I pack water and a snack for my child?
There will be a snack break in the morning during camp and in the afternoon. Snack at this time is not provided by SRSRC. Though we provide snack time and water breaks, it is ultimately the parent’s responsibility to send enough food and fluids with the child for the day. Campers will have the option to refill water bottles at the drinking fountain.
Can my camper buy lunch during camp?
Campers will not have the opportunity to purchase snacks or lunch items during camp. Campers must bring a morning snack, a lunch, an afternoon snack, and a drink daily. Please send food with your camper that is non-perishable and does not require heating, as we cannot accommodate with refrigeration and heating. Campers should also bring water to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Will the Snack Shack be open? Will lunch be provided on Fridays?
The Snack Shack will not be open during the school year. Lunch will not be provided for campers on Fridays.
What if my camper forgets his/her lunch?
If a camper forgets their lunch, the parent will be called to bring the camper a lunch. If unable to do so, a pre-packaged lunch may be provided and a $10.00 fee will be assessed

and charged to your CampBrain account.
What if my camper loses something at camp?
If a camper loses an item on-site, there will be a lost and found area near the camp backpack area. The camp backpack area will be emptied and cleared at the end of each week. Labeling items, keeping items together in a backpack, and not bringing expensive items are a good way to help prevent loss. SRSRC is not responsible for items that are lost, broken, or stolen.
What camp activities have additional waivers? How do I get them?
Some camp activities may require additional waivers to be completed for the vendors that we utilize. An email will be sent to you with the required waiver, or may be found in your CampBrain account under the paperwork section.
What do I do with completed waivers?
Please upload the completed waiver to the appropriate camper paperwork spot in your CampBrain account. This is the preferred method of waiver submission. This ensures that we have the waivers prior to your camper’s arrival to camp.
Additionally, waivers can be turned in to the camp counselors during morning sign-in or e-mailed to waivers@srsrc.com. Campers must have the waiver completely filled out by a parent in order to participate. There cannot be any exceptions made.
Camper Supervision Who is watching my camper?
The majority of our camp staff are college students and adults within the child care career setting. Some members of our staff may be credentialed teachers, some are in college majoring in elementary education, some are already working at schools in local school districts, and some work with our youth programs year round. Of our staff, at least 80% are 18 years of age or older. All counselors are trained in CPR and first aid. Some may have lifeguarding certification or other relevant special certifications. Our staff is trained to use the “rule of three,” to avoid situations in which they may be one on one with a camper. All of our staff is devoted to working with and providing care for the children in our camps.
What training does the camp staff receive?

All new camp staff members are required to attend the equivalent of four to five days of training prior to working in the camp program. Many of our camp staff have been campers at SRSRC when they were younger, some have had multiple summers of experience with us, and some are year round employees of SRSRC in the Youth Programs Department. Leadership staff also attend training sessions prior to the start of camp. During the training sessions, camp counselors learn the policies, the procedures, leadership skills, how to properly perform head counts, how to sign campers in and out, and their responsibilities. Training sessions also focus on developing and improving interaction skills with children and how to respond to disruptive behavior in a positive way.
How many staff will be watching my child?
The American Camp Association recommends the following ratios due to the variety of activities typically involved in the camp experience (field trips, large group activities, etc): Ages 4-5 years Ratio: 1:6, Ages 6-8 years Ratio: 1:8, and Ages 9-14 years Ratio: 1:10. There may be exceptions to the ratios depending on the camp environment, especially with camps that offer enrollment for multiple age groups.
Due to the nature of our camp program and activities planned, it is our intent to never surpass a 1:12 ratio for our campers.
Can camp staff baby-sit?
Our camp counselors work well with children; however, due to COVID-19 and the desire to minimize risk to campers and staff, we strongly discourage having staff babysit. It is our policy that staff members can only babysit for those who are in our SRSRC camp program if it is something set up on their own, and any babysitting done by staff is not affiliating with our camp program or any SRSRC program.
Can camp staff accept presents?
Our staff members are very dedicated and work hard; however, it is our policy that camp staff cannot accept gratuities. If instead you wish to offer feedback on a staff member’s job well done please contact the Camp Director.
Camper Behavior What are the camp rules?

Example: Always ask a counselor when you need to use the restroom or get a drink of water. Never leave your group or buddy. Listen and Follow Directions. Example: Listen when counselors and others are speaking, ask questions if you don’t know and follow directions the FIRST time asked. Have FUN!!
What happens if my camper has a discipline problem at camp?
Our camp staff is trained to deal with discipline issues in a respectful and positive manner in order to resolve the misbehavior. It is not unusual for a camper to test their limits and our staff is trained to handle these situations. Our staff speaks with the camper, allows the camper to share his/her view of the issue and any relevant information, allows the camper to take time out to think about their actions and how it affects the camp experience, and then let the child return to the activity.
If misbehavior is recurrent or the misbehavior is more severe or disruptive, the child may either be asked to sit out during an activity or the parent may be called to pick up the child. Some acts may result in immediate suspension or expulsion of the child from the camp program including but not limited to: fighting, intentionally harming others, theft, and possession of weapons or drugs. Our policies do not grant refunds or credits for missed days of the camp program due to a behavior issue. The following steps are generally used for our discipline plan: 1. The camper is given a verbal warning, which may or may not involve a timeout depending on severity. 2. The camper is given a written behavior report, which one copy is given to the parent and another copy is given to the camp director. With a behavior report, the camper will sit out during part of an activity and reflect upon their actions with the guidance of a staff member. 3. If the camper receives either three behavior reports or a behavior report that involves a threat to the safety of the camper or others, suspension or expulsion from the camp program may result depending on the severity. We do

our best to work with the camper to help resolve the issue before implementing a suspension or expulsion. Physical misbehavior (such as hitting) during previous Youth Programs enrollments at SRSRC will be taken into account when determining the appropriate response.
What happens if my camper’s behavior causes his/her removal from camp?
Our goal is for campers to have a successful and fulfilling time at camp. We wish the best experience for each child, which means taking into account how disruptive behavior may impact others’ experience at camp. If our camp is not a fit at this time, and the camper must be removed from camp, the camper’s parent will be notified to pick up the camper. Campers who are removed from the camp program may enroll in camps again one year from the removal date pending a successful meeting with and approval by the camp director. The one year period gives the camper the opportunity to grow and develop their skills prior to enrolling in any SRSRC affiliated youth program.
Camper Health & Safety
What if my camper needs to take medication during the camp day?
The Camp Director, a Coordinator, a lead counselor, or staff member with Camp Director authorization, will administer your child's medication as directed. In order to administer the medication, we must have the following: 1. The camper's medication needs to be brought to camp and given to the Camp Director or a Coordinator in a paper bag in its original container. Please label the bag with the camper's name, and camp. Please do not pack the medication in the child's backpack or in the child's lunch. 2. The medication must be prescribed by a doctor and in its original prescription bottle with your child's name printed on the label. Include written instructions from a physician as per quantity, time to administer, any other directions, and written clearance giving SRSRC permission to administer the medication. Please specify if refrigeration is necessary. 3. A completed medication release form must be completed every month or for the school year for campers who register for multiple months. This medication release form must be on file with the Camp Director before

medication can be administered to your child. This form is available from the Camp Director or a Coordinator, as well as online in your CampBrain account. 4. No over the counter medication will be administered unless approved on the Health History form or with parent's written consent. 5. Please pick up your child’s medication after the last month for which your camper is enrolled. If it is not picked up in a timely manner, SRSRC may dispose of the medication.
What if my camper needs special accommodations?
If your camper requires special accommodations, such as special medical needs, please contact the Camp Director prior to registering for camps to discuss if we are able to provide suitable accommodations for a successful camp experience. Our goal is for our campers to be successful and feel included at camp, however, we must also work within the limitations of our training and resources.
Will campers and staff be screened for illness prior to attending camp?
Campers and staff will be required to participate in a temperature check daily prior
to joining the camp group at school pick up or drop off. Campers and staff who have a temperature of 100* or above will not be admitted to camp. Any camper or staff member who exhibits signs or symptoms of illness will not be allowed at camp. In the event that a thermometer is not available, SRSRC may utilize a symptom checklist. Please ensure that you have a backup plan in case your camper cannot attend camp.
What are the signs and symptoms of COVID-19?
The signs and symptoms vary. They include, but may not be limited to, fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, shaking with chills, headache, fatigue congestion or runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle pain, and/or a new loss of taste or smell.

What if my camper is ill or injured while at camp?
If your child becomes ill during camp, we will contact the parent to pick the child up. If the legal guardian cannot be contacted, SRSRC staff will begin contacting the emergency contacts listed on your child's medical form. Camp is not designed to handle ill children, so it is the parent's responsibility to pick his/her child up, or arrange pick up by an emergency contact, within 30 minutes. Children who are showing signs or experiencing symptoms of illness should not attend camp, and will be sent home. Not feeling well may prevent a child from fully participating in, and enjoying, the camp experience. Sick campers also risk the health of other campers who wish to enjoy their own camp experience. If your child becomes injured while at camp, SRSRC staff will take whatever steps necessary to obtain medical care for your child. For a minor injury an accident report will be filled out. For an injury that is believed to be beyond our scope, emergency personnel will be called or your child may be transported to the hospital in an SRSRC vehicle. Any
expenses for routine or emergency medical care are the responsibility of the parent.
What if a camper or staff member becomes ill with COVID-19?
In the event that a camper or staff member becomes ill with COVID-19, it is the adult’s responsibility to communicate this with a Camp Director or Administrator of SRSRC. We will notify camp families of the possible exposure. Anyone who has had contact with an individual with COVID-19 should remain home for 14 days per CDC guidelines. Anyone who has had COVID-19 may return to camp when it has been ten days since the symptoms first appeared, AND 3 days with no fever, AND symptoms have improved. This guidance may change pending changes in guidance from relevant governmental agencies. The camp program will comply with any requests made by the County if an individual in our program tests positive.
What precautions is SRSRC taking to help prevent the spread of illness, such as COVID-19?

help prevent the spread of illness. These include, but are not limited to, additional hand washing, no food handling by staff (no Snack Shack), modifying camp activities, providing hand sanitizer stations, frequent cleaning of commonly touched surfaces, staggering the drop-off and pick-up times, reducing camp capacity, requiring face coverings as appropriate, temperature screenings, and reinforcing good habits with kids (hand washing, covering your cough, refraining from sharing food, etc.) Physical distancing will be utilized as practicable, such as during sign in and out times, or when waiting in line for handwashing activities. Activities will be designed to be no-touch. However, SRSRC cannot guarantee that your camper will engage in physical distancing throughout the entirety of the camp day. Campers will be encouraged to keep adequate physical space between each other, to keep their hands to themselves, and may be aided by visual guides for certain activities, such as lining up for hand washing or for signing in.
What is SRSRC’s lice policy?
We have a nit-free policy. If a child is found to have lice or nits, the parent will be called to pick the child up. Children will be able to return to the program once they are nit-free as
seen by a lead staff member.
Will sunscreen be applied to my camper throughout the day?
Sunscreen application times are in the morning, during snack time, during lunchtime, and in the afternoon. Sunscreen is also applied before any water activities, such as swimming. If you do not want sunscreen applied to your camper, or would like a specific type of sunscreen applied, please have a note sent to the camper's camp counselor for the session and provide them with the specific sunscreen. At SRSRC, although we provide lotion sunscreen to each camper, our camp counselors do not physically apply sunscreen to the campers. Counselors will then do their best to assist your camper when applying sunscreen. The availability of this help may depend on current physical distancing guidelines, so please send you camper to camp with sunscreen already applied.
What is the camp's bathroom procedure?
On-site campers utilize the buddy system. No camper is to go to the restroom without a buddy or without a group.
Can camp staff report child abuse?
Yes, any professional working with children is

considered a mandated reporter. All camp counselors, coordinators and directors are all required by law to report suspected child abuse to the proper authorties. The telephone number of the Child Protect Services is (619) 560-2191. The Family Stress Center (619) 691-1331 assists families with stressful times and provides suggestions for parenting techniques.
What if I need to speak with my camper while he/she is at camp?
Some situations may arise in which it is necessary to get a hold of your child during camp. Please call the front desk staff, and leave a message with them. They will do their best to relay the message to the appropriate camp counselors and notify your child.
How do I communicate with the SRSRC staff?
Communication between parents and the camp staff can either be informal or formal. We value communication with parents as it gives staff valuable insight. Vital information to relay to camp staff may include changes in the family, including: moving, hospitalization of a family member or friend, altercations in the parents' relationship, etc. Such factors may influence a camper's
behavior and relationship with peers, so this information is beneficial to staff in order to best provide for the child's needs. All such information will be treated with the utmost confidence. Communication can occur through camp counselors, the camp director, or the coordinators. Information pertinent to your camper’s health, safety, or experience may be provided to select camp staff working directly with your child in addition to leadership staff.
Program Content
Is there a structure that my camper will follow?
There is a monthly agenda that incorporates a structure flow for all campers to follow, helping them transition from one activity to another. Health and safety procedures are also incorporated into the daily schedule, like handwashing and re-applying sunscreen.
What type of activities will campers be participating in throughout the day?
Campers will have the opportunity to participate in daily and weekly activities such as: art projects, group games, social free play, board games, science experiments, writing prompts, yoga, crafts and water play activities.

How will SRSRC facilitate distance learning at camps?
Within the camp agenda may include extra “school time” for campers to work on schoolwork, homework, academic progress or projects. We plan to have an area dedicated to facilitating distance learning needs. Counselors will help support campers by monitoring behaviors during virtual academic meetings that may include whole class, small group or tutoring for full day campers. Friday full day campers will be pulled out of their camp activity schedule to accommodate for virtual learning meetings. Afternoon campers will have 30 minutes in their daily schedule to work on classwork or distance learning activities.
What happens if the San Diego Unified School District makes changes to their academic offerings that would impact School Year Camps?
If the San Diego Unified School District makes changes to their learning plan, we will do our best to make modifications to our program to best serve the needs of our camp families. If this occurs, we will notify those who are registered.
What is the electronic policy with respect to distance learning?
Campers must bring their own laptop, charging cable, headphones, computer case and printed materials to camp to be able to participate in distance learning. Electronics shall not be used for anything outside of schoolwork and virtual academic meetings. All content must be associated with school work and/or tutoring assigned work. Please provide staff with login information, or label your campers laptop with the login and password so they can access their schoolwork.
How do you know when campers need to access their online schoolwork or virtual academic meetings for full day campers?
Please provide the camp staff with information about the times and days of your child’s virtual whole class, small group or tutoring meetings, prior to the start of the month. We will try our best to accommodate your camper’s schedule to help support a successful school year.
Can my camper skip other activities to work on schoolwork?
Camp allows for the whole child development and just as schoolwork is important for campers’ education, group games, social interaction and hands-on arts are just as

important to the development of a child. Except for scheduled activities during your camper’s virtual academic meetings, activities will not be substituted completely by schoolwork. If and when possible “schoolwork time” can be incorporated into your campers agenda, along with group games, social free play, art and science.
Will SRSRC provide tutoring?
Although our camp staff are highly knowledgeable, they will not be tutoring campers. They will be able to assist with logging in, answering basic questions, monitoring behavior management during virtual academic meetings and facilitating schoolwork, homework, academic progress and/or project work needs.
Will there be camp evaluations?
We value your input and will send out an online survey to help us to evaluate our school year camp programs.
What if it rains?
In the event that it does rain, SRSRC staff will make a decision based on the intensity of the weather. If the decision is made that the rain does impact previously made plans, staff will utilize other appropriate parts of our facility or make alternative plans than what were previously scheduled. For some camp
activities, the goal is to enjoy the water so a little rain may not cause a change in plans.
Pool Safety Will campers be able to use the pool during camp?
It is unknown whether or not camp groups will be able to utilize the pool during the school year due to restrictions related to COVID-19. If permitted to do so, and it is feasible to do so, parents will be contacted that campers will have the opportunity to swim.
Where do campers change into their swimsuits?
Campers change into their swimsuits in our locker rooms while on-site. The changing areas are okayed by staff and then monitored for safety (typically auditorily) while campers are utilizing them. Campers must be able to change in and out of swim attire independently.
What if my camper does not want to swim or forgot his/her swimsuit?
If a camper does not bring his/her swimsuit, they will not participate in swimming. If a camper does not want to swim he/she may be provided an alternate activity choice.

During swim time, campers may also have other options depending on the camp ranging from games, art cart activities, playground time, or a movie. Some of our activities besides swimming will involve water and clothes may still get wet, so dress your camper in clothes in which they can get messy.
What if my camper can’t swim?
SRSRC lifeguarding and camp personnel perform a swim assessment to determine a camper’s swimming abilities. This assessment consists of one pool length (approximately 25 yards) across the pool in any style the camper feels most comfortable. Those that pass are allowed to swim in all areas of the pool, except for the lap lanes. If a child passes, but staff notice the child becomes fatigued or unable to swim with the same strength as before, staff may have the child stay in the shallow area. Campers who choose not to take the swim assessment, do not satisfactorily complete the swim assessment, or become unable to swim safely, receive an orange bracelet and remain in the designated shallow areas.
How often do campers take the swim assessment?
Swim assessments are given on Mondays or on the first day that the camper chooses to swim for the week. Campers may only take the swim assessment once per week. We do not offer swim assessments at other times, such as a pre-camp swim assessment. A camper who does not pass the swim assessment has the opportunity to take the swim assessment the next week that they attend camp. This gives the camper time to progress and work on becoming a stronger swimmer before retaking the swim assessment. Campers who pass the swim assessment may still be asked to stay in the shallow area at times depending on certain factors such as fatigue.
