I specialize in minimally invasive surgery. I treat all surgical diseases of the gastrointestinal tract from bowl obstructions, to diverticulitis and colorectal cancer. I also evaluate and treat many abdominal wall disorders such as groin and ventral hernias. My practice is a patient centered practice. I believe my patients are best able to choose the appropriate care plan when they are well informed and made the center of our care team. Patients and their families are treated with compassion, respect and kindness. We ensure all their care questions are answered fully to void any possible uncertainty and anxiety.

DR. SHARLA SUNDBERG is a Board Certified general surgeon with Pinnacle Medical Group who specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including weight loss surgery, and is trained in using the da Vinci Surgical System. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and completed her residency in General Surgery at the prestigious Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. She then completed her fellowship at Stanford University, focusing on minimally invasive surgery and the surgical management of obesity. She previously served as Chief of Surgery at Blake Medical Center and currently serves as chairperson of Blake Medical Center’s robotic surgery committee and as the medical director of bariatric surgery. She is one of the few female general surgeons in practice in Manatee County and is married to Eric Sundberg, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in surgery of the spine with Coastal Orthopedics.
