Distance Learning Made Seamless By: Christy Jackson Zurcher ’00

“We are educating and adapting.” That’s how Kelan Griffin, Ursuline Academy IT Director, described the Academy’s distance learning efforts during the COVID-19 state mandated school closure in March 2020. From the moment Governor Edwards declared the closure of all Louisiana schools, Ursuline did not miss one second of instructional time. Teachers and students left that Friday, prepared to begin online classes first thing Monday morning. This seamless transition had proven success for students ranging from Toddler 1 to 12th grade.

“It’s all about the teachers.

They were the ones doing it,” Griffin said. Once the onset of the coronavirus became prevalent in the state, Ursuline Academy

faculty began meeting to brainstorm, share best practices, and test new ways of online instruction. With the advantage of Google Classroom already in place across the entire Academy, teachers just needed to bring in Google Hangouts as a means of adding live video instruction. Ursuline’s IT Director stated, “None of this was expected as we started 2020, but our preparation started years ago. If we rewind six years, we would not have been able to do this.

Our success stems from our desire to provide a 1:1 device environment, which led to doing what we do daily at school and at home.” Beginning in the 2014-15 school year, 5th-12th grade became 1:1 with Kindergarten-4th being added a few years later.

Online instruction with younger students consisted of pre-recorded videos, assignments, and other resources posted to Google Classroom.

Show and tells were conducted, allowing students the chance to engage. Guest videos from teachers, administration, and staff provided additional learning opportunities such as story time, virtual field trips, and more. Lower through high school students received video instruction through Google Hangouts as one of their many learning tools. Through distance

learning, students were able to receive feedback on classwork and art projects, view instructional videos, break into small groups, and check in with teachers during office hours for additional support. In addition, school counselors were reaching out to students and families with support tips. High school students were able to virtually meet with the campus minister and dean of students to address any issues and ask questions. Daily announcements, prayer, and a growth mindset curriculum for high school offered a sense of community while supporting the individual student.

In addition to the solidity of instruction were student council executive board meetings, a Google Hangouts rosary with students and staff, private piano lessons, administrative meetings, and board meetings just to name a few. While Ursuline’s historic State Street campus sat empty, its mission carried on across the 50+ zip codes that it serves. What’s said about Ursuline foundress, St. Angela Merici, could not have been more true during this time of world pandemic – when given two choices, Angela chose a third.

Ursuline students and teachers went over and above to face the challenges given to them. They continued to push on through daily instruction

and interaction and made the very best out of those uncertain times – taking learning to the next level.

In the midst of educating and adapting came sharing – sharing information between the Academy’s divisions in order to learn and grow. “We continued to remain fluid and adapt. My job had been to troubleshoot the best I could remotely. The teachers made it happen,” said Kelan Griffin.

In a thank you letter written to faculty & staff and administration, a 6th grade parent wrote about her daughter, “Due to the efforts and technology at UA, she woke up each morning with a purpose and was able to learn and socialize remotely. It gave us great comfort.”

Distance Learning

The time we are living in now is one that I personally did not see coming and I’m sure most people feel similarly.

Taking each day at a time is essential to easing the stress, but that does not mean we can avoid our share of trials and tribulations. Personally, I have had to face worrying about my essential working sister who is a nurse. Though I know she is doing good work for others, her well-being is important to me. I’ve also had to deal with the lost time of my senior year. However, what I can attest to is that I would not have been able to undergo these obstacles with ease if it wasn’t for the love and support of my fellow senior class, family, and school community.

When I say that Ursuline Academy could not have done a better job at making sure the development of their students continued no matter what, I could not be any more sincere. Like all new things that we will be faced with in life, the thought of distance learning was confusing and a little overwhelming. In the beginning, it was a struggle for me to find the motivation to get up in the morning, turn on my computer, not sleep, and stay focused in virtual class.

The disappointment at the loss of my senior year was clouding my responsibilities.

However, I could not have been more blessed with a team of teachers who were shouting from the mountains just how proud and supportive they were of my class.

I am so thankful for each and every encouraging email and video that I received that kept pushing me forward. The one support system that I believe really lifted my spirits was from the members of my school’s retreat team, which I’m involved in, and our Campus Minister, Ms. Beth Joubert. Throughout this time, I knew I would have many opportunities to be present with God and grow in my faith life. However, I would not have been as motivated as I have grown to be without Ms. Joubert. She let the team and I know that this time was given to us for a reason and that no matter how hard times got, we needed to keep our faith and each other close to our hearts. I was able to be at peace knowing my family and I were being prayed for.

Throughout this time, I have learned so much about myself. From how I enjoy praying, to valuing family time, to appreciating the connections I have made with others. I now see that times of hardship truly do harvest a sense of solidarity. This crisis has given me hope for a world that stands with, and not against, each other in times of uncertainty. I pray we do not forget all the lessons these times have taught and will continue to teach us. As St. Angela said, “strive to be faithful to that which God has called you.”

INSIDE the

MUSEUM When asked to describe Ursuline in one word, alumnae often say “home.” For many alumnae who boarded on campus, Ursuline was, in fact, home. As boarders, the title of “Mother” given to the Sisters was even more fitting as the Sisters were mother figures who took great care of them - welcoming them with open arms.

Donated by the family of a late alumna, the campus museum now holds a letter from Mother Mary Margaret Prenger ’36 - welcoming Veda Tridico Jackson ’54 to the Ursuline family. Over 70 years later, that same warm welcome is apropos for today’s Ursuline girl.

Ursuline Academy, founded 1727, conducted its 293rd commencement exercise on July 10th in The National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Honorable Keva Landrum, an Ursuline graduate of 1990, delivered the commencement address. Landrum is New Orleans’ first female African American chief criminal court judge. Prior to this

student at Ursuline Academy, preceded by her mother.

Charlotte was an active member of Diversity of Women Club for several years, and served as president of the club as a senior. She was a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and served on the cabinet of Tri-M Music Honor Society. She also was a member of Queen’s Players for all five years of high school and participated in several theatrical productions. Charlotte is a 2020 National Merit Finalist, a recipient of the Swarthmore Book Award, and placed in several Louisiana District and State Literary Rallies.

She was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Southern California.

The ceremony began with the procession of the Class of 2020. Ursuline Academy’s Dean of Students, Sue Dorsey Heidel ’85, served as Mistress of Ceremonies, while Dean of Academics, Jennie Guidry and Head of High School, Dr. Tracy Bonday presented diplomas to the graduating seniors.

The salutatorian was Allison M. Chevis. Allison is the daughter of Kay and Marcus Chevis. Allison was the president of Book Club and a member of Student Council.

She participated in several organizations at Ursuline, including the high school chorus, Diversity of Women Club, Queen’s Players, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society (where she served as vice president for two years). Allison participated and placed in the LA District and State Literary Rallies for several years and was named a 2020 National Merit Finalist. She will be attending Michigan State University as a physics major and has been awarded the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship.

The valedictorian was Charlotte L. Fowler. Charlotte is the daughter of Dr. William and Sandi Fowler. She is a legacy

The highest award that Ursuline gives, the CLC Medal, is given in recognition of the senior who, in the opinion of the faculty, has exemplified to an outstanding degree the qualities of Courtesy, Loyalty, and Courage expected of the Ursuline student. The recipient of this year’s CLC Medal was Gloria Labatut Davies.

The Edward A. LaFaye Memorial Award is given for outstanding humanitarian service to those inside and outside of Ursuline Academy. It is decided by vote of the senior class. The seniors’ choice for this award was Gloria Labatut Davies.

The Sedes Sapientiae Medal, which takes its name from one of the titles of Our Lady “Seat of Wisdom,” is presented annually to the senior whose scholarship, achievement, and loyalty, in the opinion of the faculty, have been consistent and outstanding. This year’s recipient was Allison Chevis.

What does it mean to you to be in the 293rd graduating class of Ursuline Academy of New Orleans?

I have been at Ursuline Academy for more than half of my life. To say that I will be graduating this coming May is one of the most surreal things after having been at the same school since I was three. To me, being in the 293rd graduating class means more than I could ever put into words. For one, it means that from May 16th and onward with the rest of my life I will be responsible for carrying out and displaying the values that Ursuline has instilled in me since day one. It also means that I will be continuing the legacy of graduating from Ursuline, as have 5 other women in my family and I’m sure many more will in the coming years. Knowing that I will soon be an alumna of the 293rd graduating class of this wonderful institution is one of the most amazing things that has ever come to be thus far in my life and I will never be able to thank all of the family, teachers, administration members, and those on the board for

helping me come so far in my life and reach the goals I have, which were all made possible through this amazing school.

In what ways do you feel your Ursuline education has prepared you for the world in which we live?

Throughout my years at this school, I have learned a great many things that have helped me to feel more than ready to move onward to college and further in life confidently. From what’s being taught in the classroom to the experiences the administration allows us to have inside and outside of the school walls, they are helping to prepare us for what is so commonly referenced as “the real world.” An example of this would be the career day that is held every year that allows for the students of the high school to choose between a variety of people holding careers they might be interested in and hear about their experiences and ask questions. It was during my sophomore year that I decided I wanted to work in forensics for the FBI after talking to a special agent and a fingerprint analyst from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Another example of this would be the career shadow day that the high school administration allows the seniors to go on. On that day, two other classmates and I spent the day with Mrs. Dona Quintanilla, the same woman whose presentation two years earlier had helped me decide that working in forensics was the path I wanted to follow in life. She is an alumna of Ursuline and that day we discussed not only the ins and outs of her career, but also all of the ways that attending Ursuline helped her in life. After hearing her recount all of those pleasant experiences, some from my own family members, and even my own thoughts, there is not a single doubt in my mind that being an Ursuline girl will help me live to the fullest of my potential in life.

What one word describes Ursuline and why?

A word I would use, and have many times when asked to describe Ursuline, is love. I believe this directly ties in with the value of family I described in the previous paragraphs and if you look back you can also find the word love in there many times. Everyone in connection

Being an Ursuline girl will help me live to the fullest of my potential in life. with Ursuline has a mutual love for everything the school embodies and represents as well as their faith. Everyone willing to act as a family with one another stems from their love. You can tell that the administration of the school loves it and wants the best for the school, everyone in attendance, and the teachers. You can see the love the teachers have for their job and their students through their commitment to go the extra mile and help someone who is struggling. You can see the love the students have for their education through the hard work they put in and the love they have for each other through their actions and support of one another. I have included many examples throughout this essay when requested and although one was not in this instance, I think it displays exactly what I am trying to say. I have been taking theatre as an elective with Mrs. Amanda Zirkenbach, who we lovingly address as Mrs. Z, for four years now.

I have also had her for classes such as public speaking my 9th grade year and I currently have her for dance.

At the beginning of my 9th grade year I was diagnosed with anxiety, making classes such as theatre and public speaking exceedingly hard. Both the students in class and Mrs. Z recognized that it was a struggle for me but continuously supported me. Following that year, I continued to take theatre and ended up with most of the same girls in my class every year following. I would always have trouble with things like giving solo performances, but Mrs. Z would always put in the extra energy to help me be more confident in myself and my

skills as did other students. None of that was necessary.

She very easily could have left me to struggle on my own, but she didn’t. Her love for her students and the art of theatre is obviously prevalent through her care and actions. I am sound in my belief that if presented with a similar situation, any teacher would do exactly the same out of their love for teaching and their students.

Before writing this essay, I do not think I fully realized just how blessed I am to have been able to attend such a wonderful school. When first presented with the prompts, I had tried to think of answers and I will honestly say it was kind of hard. Once I began writing though, I realized I was trying to think of answers people wanted to hear and not what I thought. I took a lot of time to sit and really reflect on all of the time I spent at Ursuline. I sifted through what memories and experiences I could remember from all of the fifteen years I have spent at UA and focused on the feelings I gained from those. This entire essay is ultimately what I came up with along with many, many more things. Both those recounted and not, have shaped me to be the woman I am today. I can only hope to continue to grow.

I hope that I accomplished my main goal of my essay which was to truly explain just how much I love my soon-to-be alma mater and how much Ursuline means to me.

On February 18, 2020, seniors ALLISON CHEVIS, ISABELLE GIANGROSSO, and CLAIRE MYERS competed in the LMEA Solo and Small Ensemble Assessment. Allison and Claire received a superior rating for their solos and Allison, Isabelle, and Claire received a superior rating for their trio. The solos and trio all advanced to State, which was later cancelled due to COVID-19.

Due to the mandated school closure, the

CLASS OF 2020’S LAST MASS was held virtually. However, that didn’t stop our amazing faculty and staff from celebrating these seniors! A single red rose, with a special message included, was delivered to each senior's house.

While restrictions impacted our events, it didn’t stop us from continuing our most coveted traditions.

ADUATION DAY DELIVERIES GRADUATION DAY On what would have been their regularly scheduled graduation day, the Class of 2020 received special surprises from the Alumnae Association. With the Academy's 293rd commencement postponed, our Alumnae Board and other alumnae across many classes stepped up to make sure that these Ursuline girls knew just how much their Ursuline family loves them. Yard signs and goody bags filled with a t-shirt, laundry bag, and sweet treats were delivered to every senior. A special thank you to Director of Alumnae Relations, Maria Merchan Weidenbacher ’05; high school administration; Ashley Engerran LeBeouf ’90 of Augie Leopold Promotional Products; Jeanne O'Leary of Poof Confections; and the Skips of 2004 for their support and generosity. The Class of 2020 is forever part of a sisterhood who gets each other, learns from each other, and raises each other up.

FOUNDED BY TRAILBLAZING WOMEN WHO HAVE GIVEN OR PLAN TO GIVE A GIFT TO THE ACADEMY, THE LAUREL LEGACY GUILD HAS BLESSED THE ACADEMY WITH FUNDS THAT WILL CONTINUE THE TRAILBLAZING SPIRIT OF URSULINE WOMEN FOR YEARS TO COME. Jane Gisevius, Merry Mac of ’61, recognized the gift of her Ursuline education and was committed to the idea that Ursuline continue to serve New Orleans girls with an excellent education. Jane began scholarships at the Academy during her lifetime to continue to provide funding for girls who show aptitude and need. Making an even more significant impact, Jane gave the largest single planned gift in the Academy’s history. The Jane Gisevius Leadership Center opened this fall and houses SmartLabs, an entrepreneurship center, and a broadcast studio. As a founding member of the Laurel Legacy Guild, Jane’s love of Ursuline and commitment to Serviam will endure in this Leadership Center.

Linda Teijelo Smith, Skipperette of ’59, also understood the gift of an Ursuline education. As a graduate of Newcomb College, Linda pursued a Master’s in Mathematics from Stanford followed by a Master’s in Oceanography from Miami University. She wanted her planned gift to go to capital expenses that would make a difference for students and keep an Ursuline education relevant. This is exactly what the SmartLabs will make possible.

Phyllis Bunol Jones, Academy Class of ’37 and Distinguished Alumna, also left a planned gift in support of the Academy’s mission and traditions. Her gift supported the creation of the robotics lab inside the leadership center.

Suzanne Cromiller Thomas, Merry Mac of ’73, expressed her desire to leave a planned gift after her recent retirement. She states, “When I reflect on what helped me achieve success, after acknowledging the gifts that God has given me as well as the support of my parents and husband, I can’t help but think about Ursuline Academy and my years on State Street. 1 LACY DAVILLIER has been a P.O.W.E.R. member for a little over a year now as she was recommended by Deb Elam ’79. During the summer of this year, Liz Broekman ’85 honored her by asking her to become a board member. Since then she has sat on two panels to discuss eradicating racism and how people can be more inclusive.

Lacy says. “It has truly been a wonderful experience with some powerful women, and I definitely look forward to continuing to serve.”

2 CHRISTINA QUINTANA’S play AZUL (produced at Southern Rep in NOLA in 2019) was nominated for two Big Easy Entertainment Awards: “Best Original Work of Theater” and “Sound Design.”

Quintana was also selected as a Jane Hoppen Finalist for a Residency at Paragraph Workspace by submitting her novel-in-progress The Twisted Fate of La Media Luna. She was named one of New York Stage and Film’s 2020 Artists-inResidence and she recently joined the third cohort of Audible’s Emerging Playwrights.

and was recently promoted to Manager of Visitor Services and Accessibility. She is working to make the museum a more accessible place for all visitors.

Some of the initiatives she’s worked on include: offering ASL classes for staff, creating a lactation space, forging a partnership with KultureCity, and producing foreign language and large print campus guides. She won the 2019 President's Award for her work on these projects.

She also continues to perform as a solo artist with the Victory Swing Orchestra.

GABRIELLE RIVERA received her Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Tulane University and is working at Flanagan Partners LLP. Previously, she received her undergraduate

2013 4 HANNAH SENSENBRENNER was admitted in July 2020 to Louisiana State University's Leadership and Human Resource Development doctoral program. She also accepted a graduate assistantship with LSU's Leadership Development Institute (LDI) where she will assist in research, data collection, and project implementation for the Institute. Hannah's current research focuses on the development of leadership skills through improvisational (improv) comedy exercises and practices.

2015 5 ALEX SENSENBRENNER graduated from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center’s School of Nursing in May 2020. As a Registered Nurse (RN), Alex works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. She loves being able to watch the tiniest patients grow big and strong and knowing that when they leave the hospital, they have an entire life ahead of them. Alex aspires to further her education and certification

to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and continue her practice at Children’s Hospital.

2018 6 E’MYRI CRUTCHFIELD, will play the role of Ethelrida Smutney in the fourth season of FX TV series “Fargo” and will be the narrator and central character.

Crutchfield dove deep into her passion at the age of 12, being fearless and determined. At the age of 20 years old, she’s worked with phenomenal seasoned actors, worked for huge networks, was nominated for a NAACP Award for "Outstanding Youth on a TV Show," traveled around the world for work, and it doesn't stop here!

In Loving Memory of Our Ursuline Sisters Sr. Patrice Clifford, OSU ’53

Sister Mary Patrice Clifford, OSU, was born Lillian Patricia Clifford on September 2, 1935 in Oak Park, IL. After her family moved to New Orleans, she attended Ursuline Academy and graduated in 1953. She entered the Ursuline community that summer and professed her first vows in 1956. While a student at the College of New Rochelle, NY, she celebrated her final profession in 1959 and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in French later that year. She also studied at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, earning a master's degree in French. She taught in Illinois and Texas, as well as in New Orleans. In 1984, Sr. Patrice was part of the founding international community in N'Gaoundere, Cameroon. She taught in the secondary school there called College de Mazenod and in her later years, she tutored pre-seminarians in English, delighting when in time, they were ordained as priests. When interviewed in 2014, she said: "[Saint] Angela urges us not to consider ministry as a burden but to serve others with joy. The response of my students leads me to believe they realize that I thoroughly enjoy helping them and that I truly love them." After serving for almost 34 years in Cameroon, Sr. Patrice returned to the New Orleans Ursuline community. When her health failed, she moved to Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center where she died on March 29, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Connell and Eunice (Jacob) Clifford and her only sister, Mary Clifford Bigot. Surviving her are her brother-in-law Claude Bigot (Denise) and six nieces and nephews, Marie-Noelle, Patrick, Francois, and Marc Bigot, Monique Thornton and Christine Leclere, and eight grand-nieces and nephews.

Sr. Celeste Cour, OSU

The daughter of Raymond F. Cour and Frances Irene Greeley, she was born January 11, 1924, in Springfield, Illinois. As a young student at Ursuline Academy in Springfield, she was captivated by stories of the missions and dreamed of the day when she could give her life to this work. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in Crystal City, Missouri, in 1944 and made her vows in 1947. Sister Celeste earned a bachelor’s degree in math from the College of New Rochelle in New York and a master’s degree in education from the University of Notre Dame. She taught briefly in Galveston, Texas, before heading for South America, where she served for eight years in British Guyana and Barbados. After returning to the states, Sister Celeste served as bursar at Springfield College in Springfield, Illinois, and in local leadership roles for the Ursuline communities in Springfield, Illinois; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Crystal City and De Soto, Missouri. She also served the Central Province as procurator, assistant treasurer, assistant provincial, and provincial.

Sr. Miriam Teresa Graczak, OSU, AMH

Sister Miriam Teresa Graczak, OSU died peacefully on August 25, 2020 at St. Andrew’s at Francis Place in Eureka, MO. She was born on June 30, 1929 in Ellisville, MO, to Alice and Joseph Graczak. She entered the Ursulines in 1947 and professed her vows in 1952. She earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. A longtime teacher, Sister Miriam Teresa taught elementary grades at Ss. Peter and Paul School in Alton, IL from 1961-62 and at St. Bernard’s School in Wood River, IL, from 1965-76. She taught music at the elementary level at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans from 1978-85 and 1986-96. After retiring from teaching, she remained in New Orleans until 2005, providing service to the local Ursuline community. Following Katrina, she rejoined the Ursuline community in Alton until her 2018 move to Francis Place. Sister Miriam Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ursuline Sister Mary Virginia Graczak; and two brothers, Cyril and Anthony Graczak.

Sr. Mary Ann Luth, OSU

Sister Mary Ann Luth, OSU died peacefully on July 28, 2020 at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka, MO. She was 100. Born on May 28, 1920 in St. Louis to Louis H. and Marie Burke Luth, she entered the Ursuline Sisters in 1940 and professed her vows in 1943. Sister Mary Ann earned a bachelor's degree from the College of New Rochelle and a master's degree from St. Louis University.

An educator for more than 40 years, she taught at Ursuline Academy from 1946-48 and 1949-55 and was principal from 1955-59. She taught at Eugene Coyle High School from 1948-49. She was president of Springfield College in Springfield, IL and served in Alton, IL, Frontenac, MN, and New Orleans, LA. She was a councilor on the Ursuline leadership team from 1966-71. She is survived by a brother, Fred Luth.

Sr. Francis Marie Thrailkill, OSU

Sister Francis Marie Thrailkill died peacefully at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans, LA on October 2, 2020. The daughter of Franklin and Mary Myrtle Huggins Thrailkill, she was born Barbara Ann Thrailkill on September 21, 1937 in San Antonio, TX. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin (Irene) and Robert Thrailkill and a sister, Mary Francis Thrailkill Grohman (Fred). She is survived by a number of devoted nieces and nephews. Sister Francis Marie graduated from Ursuline Academy in San Antonio and entered the Ursuline Sisters in July of 1955, making her vows in January of 1958. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the College of New Rochelle in New York, a master’s degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, and an EdD from Nova University, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. An outstanding educator, she taught in Ursuline Schools in Dallas, TX and New Orleans, LA, served as principal of Ursuline Academy in Dallas, and as President of Springfield College in IL. Her longest time of service was as President of the College of Mt. St. Joseph, Cincinnati, OH for 20 years. After retirement from Mt. St. Joseph, she acted in interim roles as President of Chatfield College, St. Martin, OH and Wheeling Jesuit University, Wheeling, WV, and as Director of Villa Maria Retreat and Conference Center, Frontenac, MN. She retired with the Ursuline Sisters in San Antonio in 2011 and moved to Our Lady of Wisdom in 2014.

What an interesting end to their 7th grade year! We are pretty sure that the Class of 2020 is enjoying high school and doing well in their studies. We wish them continued success!

Our kindergarten students celebrated both Black History Month and International Women and Girls in Science Day! They learned all about Katherine Johnson - a NASA physicist and mathematician who calculated the trajectories to send the first American into space and help the first American orbit the Earth.

Athletic Director and Head Volleyball Coach Jay Jay Juan was inducted into the New Orleans Prep Sports Hall of Fame at Ye Olde College Inn. Coach Juan is one of 24 new honorees and joins Ursuline's beloved Coach Pat Taylor on the wall of fame.

Ursuline girls Laila, Leslie, Samantha, and Victoria were awarded scholarships and academic recognition awards from the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation.

As a cross-curricular project with technology, art, and music, our second grade students learned all about Chinese New Year.

These Ursuline girls hosted an all-day pop-up with an informational green screen video, lanterns, music, dancing, and spring rolls for all to enjoy!

Our Ursuline girls always enjoy celebrating and spending time with the special women in their lives during the Mother-Daughter Luncheon.

The Krewe of Early Childhood rolled through the Ourso Gym for friends and family to enjoy!

Our first grade Ursuline girls participated in a crosscurricular social studies project which centered around the economic concepts of wants/ needs and goods/services. From there, they decided to produce and sell their own slime! Their profits helped purchase new outdoor play equipment for all to enjoy!

Kindergarten Ursuline girls Skyped with author Shanda McCloskey, writer of the tech book "Doll-E 1.0.� She read her book to them and also taught them how to draw one of the main characters from the story! The girls made their own dolls and wrote their own programs on Scratch Jr., showing a doll moving and talking.

Elementary and high school students joined voices to perform the Te Deum during the Academy’s Our Lady of Prompt Succor Feast Day Mass. The Te Deum is an expression of thanksgiving that has continued since the miraculous victory of the Battle of New Orleans.

The 7th Grade Class of 2020 received a trophy for being the most spirited at their Elementary Rally.

The sailing team hosted the first ever Ursuline Schools Regatta. This regatta will be held annually and is open to any school in the Ursuline network. Saint Ursula Academy of Cincinnati was the first to join! After two days of racing, Ursuline Academy of New Orleans won the first regatta on our own home waters!

After hosting French Ursuline students in New Orleans, a few of our Ursuline girls, along with their teachers, traveled to Paris, France to Sainte Ursule. Global learning at its best!

On one of the days of Catholic Schools Week, we celebrated religious vocations.
