History Of Sant’ Orsola

Estabished as a Convent for Benedictine nuns.

Place for worship and seclusion

Converted into a tabbaco factory due to suppresion of religious orders. Major shift in the use of the building

Religious Heritage

-Initially established in the 14th century as a convent for nuns.

-Symbolized influence of the Catholic Church during the middle ages.

Architectural Heritage

-Typical design of a convent, includes cloisters, a chapel, dormotories, and communal spaces.

-Cloisters are open arcaded spaces

Association with Lisa Gherardini

-In 2012, bones were found, believed to belong to Lisa Gherardini

-Lisa Gherardini is believed to be the model for Da Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa.

-Recent restoration efforts have been made to revive its historical/cultural significance

-Dining experience is not just about food, overall experience is very important

-Acoustics add a lot to the ambiance of a restaurant

-Acoustic panels are installed on the surface of ceilings and walls

-These panels are usually used to control indoor acoustics

-Ceiling panels and Wall panels

Sound Absorbing Materials

-Soft Materials help absorb sound and reduce noise level

-Hard materials tend to reflect sound and amplify noise

Color Theory

Psychology

-Colors can evoke emotional responses, especially when dining.

-Colors can evoke hunger, thirst, and perception of space.

Appetite Stimulation

-Red is commonly used to evoke hunger, however too much red can lead someone to be overwhelmed.

-Orange has a similar affect to the color red, it provokes hunger.

-Blue evokes thirst

Mood and Atmosphere

-Neutral colors create a relaxed and comfortable environment, especially in a restaurant

-White evokes purity and freshness.

-Total of 14,163 SF -15 spaces total -Each space provides a different function, fitted for the user. -Outdoor and Indoor Spaces -Public Spaces (Customers) -Private Spaces (Employees)

Concept Statement

The concept for this restaurant design centers on celebrating cultural heritage and the historic preservation of St. Orsola. This project seeks to create an immersive dining experience that not only reinforces the region’s culinary culture but also serves as a living museum, providing guests with a deeper understanding of St. Orsola’s unique history and contributions to the local community.
