Dear Friends and Partners,
Welcome to our annual newsletter. As we move through another productive season at Sunridge Nurseries, I want to take a moment to thank our customers, partners, and team members for your continued trust and collaboration. Our commitment to advancing the nursery industry remains at the core of everything we do through innovation, research, and a strong focus on quality plant material
In this edition, we are excited to share several updates that reflect both our progress and our people You’ll find an overview of plans for our new laboratory and research facility, a step forward in strengthening our diagnostic and scientific capabilities to better serve the industry We also highlight our continued investment in technology, including the growing role of thermal imaging in improving plant health monitoring and operational precision Equally important are the people who make this work possible This issue celebrates the Stoller family scholarship recipients, introduces new employee experts who have joined our team, and honors longtenured team members whose dedication has helped shape Sunridge into what it is today.
Each of these stories reflects the same guiding principle: a longterm commitment to supporting growers and advancing the agricultural industry we are proud to be part of Thank you for being part of that journey with us.

At the start of this season, Sunridge Nurseries proudly announced that our laboratory achieved accreditation in Biological Testing through the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), the largest and most widely recognized accrediting body for testing laboratories in the United States. This accomplishment marked a significant milestone for our organization and reinforces our ongoing commitment to quality, innovation, and scientific excellence
Our ring-tested, ISO-certified plant pathology laboratory operates at the highest industry standards, utilizing advanced diagnostic technologies to ensure the health and integrity of our plant material Through the use of QPCR-based virus detection and other cutting-edge methodologies including PCR, RT-PCR, and TaqMan analysis, our lab is equipped to accurately identify a wide range of plant pathogens These include viruses, fungi, and bacteria across various grapevine tissues, enabling us to maintain the highest level of cleanliness and ensure our mother blocks meet rigorous health standards.

Looking ahead, Sunridge Nurseries is actively planning the development of an on-site research facility that will further expand our capabilities This facility will complement our existing plant pathology program while creating new and improved opportunities for further collaboration with leading researchers and institutions focused on plant health and disease prevention Our team is excited to continue working alongside respected experts such as Dr Philippe Rolshausen from University of California, Riverside, Dr Luis Diaz Garcia and Dr Akif Eskalen from University of California, Davis, and Christopher Wallis, Research Plant Pathologist at the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service
These collaborations are focused on advancing research in areas such as new rootstock and varietal breeding for improved disease and pest resistance, as well as the development and application of biocontrol agents Beneficial microorganisms including Trichoderma and Bacillus subtilis play an increasingly important role in protecting plant health, supporting the viability of cuttings and dormant material during cold storage, and enhancing growth performance in both greenhouse and field nursery environments

At Sunridge Nurseries, innovation continues to play a key role in how we refine our growing practices and deliver the highest quality vines One of the latest tools enhancing our field operations is thermal imaging technology, providing our team with a new level of visibility into irrigation performance across our blocks. By using thermal imaging, we are able to monitor distribution uniformity with precision, allowing us to track not only the movement of water, but also fertilizers and plant protection materials applied through our irrigation systems This real-time insight helps ensure that inputs are being delivered evenly and effectively throughout the field
Many of our vines are grown directly on the ground, limiting access to rows during much of the growing season As a result, irrigation issues such as leaks or clogged emitters could go undetected until visible signs of plant stress appeared Thermal imaging has transformed this process by allowing us to identify irregularities early, pinpointing areas that are too dry or receiving excess water before they impact vine health.
With this technology, our team can respond quickly, making timely adjustments that improve efficiency, conserve resources, and support overall crop performance It’s another example of how we are leveraging innovation to strengthen our commitment to quality from the ground up

We’re proud to share that the CIMIS station at Cuyama Ranch is now fully operational, marking a meaningful step forward in advancing water management and sustainability in the Cuyama Valley
Last year, Sunridge generously donated land at our Cuyama Ranch to support the installation of this station and continues to oversee maintenance of the six-acre site This commitment reflects a shared investment in providing valuable, long-term resources to the region’s agricultural community
The new station enhances our ability to monitor and manage irrigation practices by delivering accurate, real-time weather data. As part of the CIMIS network, the station collects key environmental metrics used to calculate evapotranspiration (ET), helping growers make more informed irrigation decisions. This leads to more efficient water use, improved crop performance, and stronger stewardship of limited resources. In a drought-impacted region like the Cuyama Valley, access to reliable, localized data is critical. The station plays a central role in supporting water conservation efforts while equipping growers with the tools they need to farm more sustainably
Data from the station is publicly available through the CIMIS network, allowing growers, researchers, and industry professionals to access insights that support better decision-making across the valley
We’re excited to see the positive impact this station will have and remain committed to supporting innovation and sustainability in agriculture

With origins tracing back to the Middle Ages, Pineau d’Aunis takes its name from the Prieuré d’Aunis, a monastery situated between Saumur and Champigny This dark-skinned variety has long played a role in the Loire’s winemaking tradition, particularly in rosé wines where it contributes a signature peppery spice
In the vineyard, Pineau d’Aunis presents a thoughtful challenge It is a mid-vigor variety with sensitivity to sunburn, and its compact clusters can make it susceptible to bunch rot and botrytis With a late bud break and a maturity timeline similar to Cabernet Franc, careful management is key to achieving balanced results.

In the glass, Pineau d’Aunis is anything but ordinary. It delivers a striking aromatic profile, layered with white and black pepper notes alongside vibrant red fruit such as strawberries, black cherries, and even hints of watermelon. The result is a wine that is both rustic and expressive, delivering a refreshing break from more traditional styles while inspiring a sense of creativity in every pour

Grolleau Noir, believed to be related to the ancient Gouais Blanc, derives its name from the French word grolle, meaning “crow”, a nod to the grape’s deep, dark color Today, it stands as one of the Loire Valley’s most widely planted red varieties, known for its versatility across sparkling, rosé, and still wines
In the vineyard, Grolleau Noir is notably vigorous and capable of producing consistently high yields, even following spring frost events It is an early riser, with budbreak occurring about a week before Cabernet Franc, and it reaches maturity slightly ahead as well While hardy in many respects, its canes can be sensitive to strong winds, requiring thoughtful site selection and management
Despite its dark appearance, Grolleau Noir produces wines with a lighter structure due to its thin skins and naturally lower tannin levels When carefully managed, particularly through yield control, it reveals a lively and refreshing profile. Bright acidity carries notes of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and citrus, often complemented by delicate floral tones and a playful hint of red candy.

The Sunridge Family Scholarship, established in 2023, reflects a long-standing vision of Co-founder Terrie Stoller to give back to the families of our dedicated employees, those who play an essential role in the continued success and growth of our company This scholarship was created not only to support higher education, but to recognize the hard work, determination, and bright futures of the next generation
Each year, we are honored to celebrate a group of outstanding students who are pursuing their unique educational paths and aspirations The photos featured here highlight the 2025–2026 scholarship recipients From diverse academic interests to personal achievements, these students embody the values that define the Sunridge community
We are proud to support their journeys and look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.
