No separation of space between work and leisure 1. Distraction from things within your home and the inability to recognize the work environment Uncomfortable seating 1. When spending hours on the desk, comfortable positioning makes you more productive and efficient while working No privacy from family members/peers 1. Other people may indirectly or accidentally distract and disturb work Desk isn't always suited for working 1. A desk isn't always customized for someone, it is often premade so that it serves a general purpose for a variety of people. For students, this may not be enough as they need many more features to accommodate for their work Poor lighting 1. Dimly lit rooms or uneven lighting often hinders progress as it causes stress in your eyes. Furthermore, good lighting is necessary for scanning, drawing, and other pieces of work.

Not enough storage 1. Students require a lot of desk space and storage. Without it, their work would become extremely inefficient and result in unfinished work depending on the situation.

Lots of noise 1. Outside noise or external noise can be distracting when trying to work. This problem level varies depending on the person.

The financial aspect of this desk must also be considered it should be relatively reasonable and affordable if students were to purchase it Dimensions of the room 1.

Walls, floors, and ceiling cannot be changed as that would affect the whole building No tampering of walls or floors 1.

Dorms should remain untouched as it is only used for a term or two Separation of work and leisure may result in a more cramped space 1.

Creating a separate section solely for work may make the overall room much smaller, causing the desk to feel more cramped which could actually be less productive for certain people Noise reduction 1.

Noise reduction can only be done to a certain extent, as nothing can be fully sound proof and may still be distracting in the end Predetermined work space 1.

We are unable to move the desk to a completely different area, for example the lounge area of CMH as this would be very unreasonable 1.

Covid Cubby Precedent Document

We wanted to include a partition to separate work and leisure space, as well as to increase privacy.

Angled desks would be useful in drafting and sketching.

Initially, we wanted to make a fold up desk, but decided it may be inconvenient to clean everything up before folding.

Having light underneath the shelf would help with visibility of the workspace.

We wanted a chair that would be comfortable to sit in for long hours, so we chose the MARKUS chair from IKEA.
